My wife and I went to Stroud Agricultural show (Fair) this weekend. Stroud is a town of just under 1000 people that is 74 km (46 mi) north of Newcastle, NSW. There was a Ute Muster (Pick up truck beauty contest). Show jumping and other horse events. Chainsaw competitions. The dog show that we went to and a pavilion of local exhibits including from the local school. Someone explain to me why it took me about 5 minutes just to find out that Isabell Werth (Germany) secured her silver medal on a horse named Wendy because so few news articles actually name the horse and instead give all the credit to Werth when Wendy was the one doing the fucking work. Someone explain.

At rodeo riders are introduced and celebrated with [Rider] + [Horse]. "Introoooducing Skinnydick Jawpopper on Duke!" Why is it that western riding celebrates horse and rider as a single undividable unit but English always introduces and awards rider first and horse second IF the horse is awarded at all. The only exception I can think of is horse racing of which we just don't talk about the jockeys except when they fucking die on track or go for the Triple Crown on the first horse they've ever raced on.

Do you know who Secretariat's jockey was? I wish that was more standard. I wish the horse came first more. Having done saddlebronc, steer wrestling, steer roping, campdraft/cutting, and mounted shooting, 90% of the work is in the horse. The only exception really is mounted shooting. If the horse is doing most of the fucking work why is it always the rider getting the credit?

Wish horses were celebrated more. Wah.

Another weekend and another show done and dusted…. Literally dust…. So much dust thanks to the previous days campdrafters that it was a waste of my time making Swords legs white 🙃

Anyway wasn’t much of a fantastic day for results. Didn’t place in the Thoroughbred class because the ground was so shit he was hobbling around because of his knee and just lacked the energy that we needed for a really nice trot out. Then placed 5th in Off The Track, which i feel i should’ve place a bit higher but you know suprise, suprise their was 3 big dapple greys again 😩

But anyway it was an alright day, Sword stood around the calmest he has ever been at a show, probably could’ve even ridden him so again was happy with that.
