Family Ties and Punk Vibes: Trueblood’s New Single Shines Hey music lovers! Trueblood dropped a killer new track called "I Like My Life The Way It Is" which is a total bop and you need to check this out - San Diego's own Trueblood! Now this - the band's actually a bunch of four brothers, including 12 year old Mason who actually wrote the song. How cool is that? A father-daughter duo, these guys teamed up with Homescool to make this pop punk gem about loving life now, not being stuck in the past. This super catchy guitar riff at the top of the song will make you think of Blink 182, until it becomes this awesome alt rock anthem. All that is there - Dylan ripping on guitar, Cameron killing it on drums, Ethan belting those vocals, Mason bringing that youthful energy. And trust me, that chorus is an earworm (you will be singing it for days!) What's cool about this track is that it really feels like you are 'live in the moment'. For a young Mason is has nailed what it is to be a kid in today's world. It’s kind of a big middle finger to all those ‘back in my day’ comments from old folks. Trueblood's been killing it on stages across California and it's not hard to figure out why. These brothers have some crazy chemistry and you certainly can hear it every note. It's a combination of technical skills and catchy melodies, a baby if you will, of Polyphia and Paramore. Bottom line? There is more to 'I Like My Life The Way It Is' than a song. In other words, trueblood's basically saying, "Hey, we're here, we're now, and we're loving every minute of it." If you’re into pop-punk or alt rock, you’ve got to hear these guys. Earlier today, an email from King Falls AM and Eric Kimelton was sent to Patreon supporters detailing the creation of a new improve podcast called “Improv on Tape”. Below is a discord message of the Patreon email for those not on the Patreon emailing list.

Many of the voices you've heard on King Falls AM over the years, like Noah James, Christopher Ninness, Mason Trueblood, Owen Virgin, Cameron Chambers, and myself, Eric Kimelton, all got together and decided to create a new podcast during Covid. What an original idea  I think there were more podcasts created in 2020 than children! We wanted to do something fun, weird, and funny, and that's how Improv On Tape was born. Aafksdkfkds looking back now, I can’t believe it me this long to read Alyssa Cole’s AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION (about black lady spies during the Civil War!) since I’ve read her contemporary stuff, but this one showed me why she’s one of my to-go romance authors that I ALWAYS recommend!

2020 Morris Award Finalist - Nafiza Azad’s THE CANDLE AND THE FLAME (about two warring djinn tribes set in a fantasy Silk Road-inspired city) was amazinggg and her prose is just exquisite!!!

It was a pleasure to sit down with Gary Trainor, who plays the lead role of Dewey in certain performances for this Hotspots exclusive interview.

At what age did you begin performing and how did it happen?

I started performing when I was about 7 years old in Northern Ireland, and have been hooked ever since.

What was your first professional role?

I went to drama school in London and when I finished that degree at 21 I did a show called the Oxford Passion that I got paid for.

How did you get cast in this Broadway Across America’s production of School of Rock?

I was in the original West End show and I was the Dewey alternate there, and then took over the lead full time. Eventually I took a break, and after resting, I was interested in coming back to School Of Rock and they picked me for the tour.

Other than this role, what has been your favorite to play?

I played Donnie Kirshner in Beautiful in the West End and that was a lot of fun. I also liked Stones in his Pocket on Broadway, which I did in 2011.

What is your fantasy role?

I would have said Dr. Who in the past, but now that roles are diverse I can be Dr. Who’s sidekick. Either that or Mrs. Doubtfire.

How fun is it to work with the talented group of kids in School of Rock?

It’s amazing, as you get to be the big brother or the fun uncle. They are so talented and fun, and the energy they have is infectious. These kids are so professional, it amazes me.

What should our readers expect from this production of School of Rock?

They should expect to be entertained, to laugh, and to be shocked a bit. You are going to see these kids take a journey and you are going to get your face smashed by some amazing rock. The people that come to our show are from the ages 4 to 104. There really is no age limit!

On a personal level, I am having the time of my life on this show and exploring parts of America I thought I would never see. I am looking forward to coming to Florida to get some sun on this pasty Irish skin.

Based on the hit film, School Of Rock – The Musical is a hilarious new musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. While teaching these pintsized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.
