Viva la Vida with Hoo people
Calypso: I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning, I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own
Rayna: I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes Listen as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead, long live the king
Hazel: One minute, I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
Frank: I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field Thalia: For some reason, I can't explain Once you'd gone, there was never, never an honest word And that was when I ruled the world
Jason: It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn't believe what I'd become
Octavian: Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Aw, who would ever wanna be king?
Piper: I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field
Leo: For some reason, I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world
All: Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Annabeth: hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin' Roman Cavalry choirs are singin' Be my mirror, my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field
Percy: For some reason I can't explain I know Saint Peter won't call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world
Please tell me what you think, I haven’t done anything like this but the urge hit and I couldn’t help it. I feel like it fits and if you want I could do another song and another Pjo series or the same one. But I haven’t read much of Magnus chase or the Kane chronicles or anything yet so if you want me to do anything like that please be specific. Thanks.

Colors That Run Highlights 43
spoiler alert we still did not make it back to guild city
After a round of Maria-mandated baths, the party reconvened for some conversation. Kattie revealed that she had been offered a deal by Captain Frosta via letter-- he would give the information he knows about the ship with black sails in exchange for the party’s choice of goods. These choices included gold, supplies, and monster parts. Knowing they’d be receiving a Big pay check once Eve had set up all the teleportation circles, the group seemed prepared to pay Frosta for his info (even if Calypso argued he already owed Slim because they hooked up).
Slim made some comment about having spent the good will they had in Guild City, and Calypso corrected him-- their good will had been taken from them, not spent. He also mentioned that, per a recent letter, he had perhaps used up his good will with the Rangers, as a result of his detainment at New Port.
Slim brought out a veritable banquet of desserts, upon which the party (and Eve) happily indulged. He then sat down and told everyone that he was... pregnant. Apparently from Toark, the minotaur barkeep in Smoth. The group was quite surprised, especially Valor who was practically catatonic (unresponsive to a cookie crumb being thrown at her and Egg’s little hands on her face, but responsive to Kattie’s Sending spell... right across the room).
For the time being, things won’t change much, though the party will probably be a bit more protective of Slim moving forward. The future is (perhaps) undecided. At any rate, congrats were given. Calypso wondered at the probability that pregnancy even happened, given that Slim is well over 50. “Youre tellin’ me, sister.”
Valor mentioned that her letter from Luna suggested she could also offer information on the black sailed-ship, though she warned against trying for any revenge. Luna would be in Gilsa soon, so perhaps a meeting would be in order.
Also for some reason Calypso threw a cookie crumb at Eve and missed her completely, and then Maria made Calypso pick it back up. Stern Mom Mode wins once again
The next morning, the rooster’s crowing signaled the beginning of a new day. Fea departed from her Calypso’s shared room (via the window, for some reason) which prompted Calypso to complain about being abandoned until she also departed (via the window). Outside, they found Valor vibing with Sven, who now resembled a copper dragon, matching with Valor’s new armor. Valor tried to gaslight them into believing that Sven has always been copper, but Calypso saw through the deception.
Once Fea came in, she headed into the kitchen to help with the dishes, since she doesn’t eat breakfast, or anything else. Slim pointed out the importance of the socialization aspect, and Calypso asked if Fea just doesn’t like her anymore. Fea answered her by gently nudging into her neck with her mask, before proceeding to the dishes.
Earl left the party that morning to meet up with the Rangers’ Cavalry to see if they had any leads on Daniel. On the way to New Fuero, Calypso sat down with Slim and told him that Fea seems to think that most of the party doesn’t trust her, and that she needs to regain their trust somehow. Neither of them had any real ideas on how to make her feel more welcome; Calypso just knew that she wasn’t smart enough to figure it out on her own. Slim would be thinking on it and would talk to Fea at some point.
Once in New Fuero, the party was led by an friendly old guy to the one that had called for the Heroes’ Guild’s help, a cool lady named Tanya. She showed the group one of the warehouses in the north end of town that had been broken into-- violently and clawfully, as it appeared-- and that the city had been losing a lot of their fish supply lately to whoever or whatever was breaking in. A couple of guards had also gone missing in one of these recent break-ins, so the party was tasked with stopping the cause of these things. Calypso offered some perspective on how to lure in a criminal, per her experiences with the Black Smoke, which Tanya hesitantly nodded along with before more concrete planning was done.
A plan was hatched to ambush the culprit. The group would stakeout the warehouse, waiting on the inside, hidden among the stacked boxes. Sven would be on the lookout outside, and then stand at the door to keep the culprit from escaping once they were in. On the inside, Valor would throw a net over the intruder, with the rest of the party as backup.
It was also planned, per Fea’s uneasiness with inevitable bloodshed and Calypso’s support of her, that the group would take care of this mission without killing the culprit, if possible. (Additionally, there was originally going to be two of these encounters, one here in the north and one in the south, but there was some consolidation to save time.)
The party got into position and waited. And waited. And waited some more. For hours, nothing happened.
Finally, there was commotion at the door. There was this horrible creepy breathing and screeching going on, and a grotesque and very mouthy creature came in through the locked gate. It barreled toward the back of the warehouse and tore into a crate full of fish and began shoveling the fish into its wide mouth. Thanks to Valor’s Pass Without Trace, the creature didn’t detect anyone in the warehouse. That, or it just didn’t care about anything besides the fish.
Valor deftly trapped the creature with the net... but then two more of the creatures entered the warehouse (though, one of them remained out of sight, fighting Sven at the door). Calypso moved from her hiding spot to Bless three party members in range and took a defensive stance. Kattie conjured some Dancing Lights to better illuminate the room, and Slim lassoed the second creature.
Ultimately what the combat became was a series of grapple attempts and escapes. Fea did pretty well at this, wrestling one of the creatures down to the floor and pinning it, telling it to “stop that” Velma-style. Calypso, being a Dex-built monk, didn’t have the best Athletics score to do that well at holding down the creatures. What helped the efforts though was the others’ attempts at intimidating the creatures-- Valor used her Necrotic Shroud (and deep voice-changer voice) to scare one off of Sven (it was trying to eat him) and Slim busted out his Stern Dad Voice and told another one off in Spanish, brandishing his boot. Kattie did some cool intimidating posing with her axe as well.
Slim also busted out his pistol armed with basilisk-venom soaked bullets to try and petrify the creatures, but they kept making their saves against the effect. So it fell to scrounging around for rope in the warehouse to tie up these creatures, which ultimately worked out. And now, with three six monsters in tow, the group had something to hand over to Frosta in exchange for pirate intel! Kattie hit him up with several Sendings and they struck a deal.
For easier transport, Slim purchased some basilisk blood to turn the creatures to stone, to be carried on a cart. A bunch of rope and a couple of Revivify diamonds were also purchased, after some money pooling.
In the morning, the group teleported to Gilsa, where they’d meet up with Frosta within the week. Valor spotted Luna’s ship from afar and happily skipped off to hang out with the captain. (Calypso advised her to simply flash Luna her tits and she’d tell her anything, and lo and behold, it worked!)
Beyond that, the group had a bit of downtime while waiting for Frosta to dock (which Slim ensured would happily safely by speaking with Thikk). Slim and Egg went on many fishing adventures, as usual. Eve and Kattie were gay together, as usual. Calypso and Fea were gay together, as usual (perhaps even more than usual 👀). Gilsa is for lovers
From Luna and Frosta, the group had acquired some information about the red ship with black sails. The ship is allegedly called Death’s Beacon, headed by Captain Chandler, a human woman who had killed the previous captain. She sails the ocean surrounding Calamity, plundering other ships, and it’s rumored she has a treasure hoard somewhere on Calamity’s coast. Chandler is rumored to have some sort of control over an ocean beast (a kraken?) as well as monsters onboard the ship at her disposal.
Chandler has origins from the fire sector of Harmonce and the wood of the ship was poached from the Feywilds. And apparently the previous captain of the Sabre, before Luna, had boarded the Death’s Beacon and never returned. Sooooo.... probably a bad idea to seek vengeance 😬 at least for now.
and finally, some erasure of history.

blackbeard has the kraken/davy jones/sea devil df which allows him to swim
youtube
youtube
blackbeard is odas favorite pirate and he made multiple allusions to the real life pirate with him
and oda alluded to the real life blackbeard before
Whitebeard (Edward) and Blackbeard’s (Teach) names are based of a single real pirate: “Blackbeard” Edward Teach who was also called edward thatch in some documents due to variation in surname spelling or how its believed that thatch was an alias for edward teach and blackbeard killed thatch for the yami yami no mi and when Blackbeard has absorbed Whitebeard’s DF and killed him, Blackbeard has metaphorically became the real Edward Teach. by killing taking dfs from two people who has names connected to RL blackbeard
“One early source claims that his surname was Drummond, but the lack of any supporting documentation makes this unlikely. Pirates habitually used fictitious surnames while engaged in piracy, so as not to tarnish the family name, and this makes it unlikely that Teach’s real name will ever be known” so its possible that given the above the third person blackbeard kills to take their devil fruit for his own will be named drummond to fit the theme above
Plus the real life blackbeard received a royal pardon for piracy and became a privateer (legalized pirate) soon after that he returned to piracy which is reflected in the story by how blackbeard became a shichibukai the one pieces version of prjvateers for a short period of time and willingly abandoned that position to become a real or in laws terms ordinary pirate again
Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, is the admiral of the Blackbeard Pirates and one of the Yonko
The name Marshall derives from name Marshal which means a high official in the household of a medieval king, prince, or noble originally having charge of the cavalry but later usually in command of the military forces.
Which also connects to Edward teach or thatch the real Blackbeard who was a reported to have served as a privateer during Queen Anne’s War (1701 - 1714), and turned to piracy sometime after the war’s conclusion.
Recent genealogical research indicates his family moved to Jamaica where Edward Thatch, Jr. is listed as being a mariner in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Windsor in 1706. He may have been a sailor on privateer ships during Queen Anne’s War before settling on the Bahamian island of New Providence, a base for Captain Benjamin Hornigold, whose crew Teach joined sometime around 1716. Hornigold placed him in command of a sloop he had captured, and the two engaged in numerous acts of piracy.
and this is real life blackbeards flag
so far he has went after both hancock and law who have a heart motif
basically the davy jones df would also be the sea devil like how the hito hito no mi model nika is the “sun god “ df ( also its possible he is able to make it so his crewmates will be exempt from the rule that devil fruit user are weakened by the sea/cant swim
Davy Jones' backstory with Calypso is teased through a POTC song, which was inspired by a legend in which Blackbeard used coded lyrics to recruit sailors. Davy Jones' story in Pirates of the Caribbean was partly inspired by an ingenious Blackbeard legend
so its possible that oda could reference this combined with a potc reference by having an allusion to davy jones through blackbeard
the coded song in the legend was Sing a Song of Sixpence
Sing a song of sixpence, A pocket full of rye, Four and twenty blackbirds Baked in a pie. When the pie was opened The birds began to sing— Wasn't that a dainty dish To set before the king? The king was in the counting-house Counting out his money, The queen was in the parlor Eating bread and honey, The maid was in the garden Hanging out the clothes. Along came a blackbird And snipped off her nose. Sing a song of sixpence, A pocket full of rye, Four and twenty blackbirds Baked in a pie. When the pie was opened The birds began to sing— Wasn't that a dainty dish To set before the king?
blackbeard loves pie
The reference to sixpence was supposedly the daily payment sailors would receive, while “Four and twenty blackbirds/Baked in a pie” conveyed his method of surprise attacks by feigning a need for help to lure passing vessels into a trap.
plus blackbeard has a technique called black water ( there is a theory that like how luffys df is actually the hito hito no mi model sun god blackbeards yami yami no mi is actually the sea devil fruit) for it can drain df powers

We Will Endure! We Will Endure! We Will Endure!
Inkopolis Square is full of rioters, chanting this slogan. It was a small group of students, but their message is strong: the witchhunts must stop; the extreme censorship must stop; the discrimination must stop; the mob rule must stop; the Rīkībaketto Party reign must stop.
This sowed the seeds of a rebellion.
In order to explain, Masato “Senshi” Sosharu and the Rīkībaketto Party have already passed a law allowing their new Security department to gain control of the media, seize artists and writers, and detain Off the Hook for a trial. That last part would cancel another Splatfest which angered the fanbase who saw it as the last straw.
Inkopolis Square was given promises from this political party through their acts of justice and prosperity. Those actions and deeds are finally questioned by their witchhunts, extreme censorship, mob rule, discrimination, false accusations, and unlawful arrests and executions. All this brought fear, control, and discontent from those already living in this part of Inkopolis.
At sunset, ink chargers were shot, and there were screams and retaliation. A mob leader named Sanada-600 is already at the scene with his union of gangs and mobsters to turn the riot into a rebellion. However, there were still some civilians in the riot that were already panicking to the point of routing. Those that weren’t part either the rebellion or the riot and those that were bystanders ended up in the mess.
Vincent managed to get Beaker Jr out of the disarray. All he was doing before this sudden battle was strolling with his son. He ended up stumbling into Lee, Ami, Leo, Cassi, and Chihiro in some pharmacy. They got their ink-weapons with them, but they weren’t planning on joining this battle in the Square.
“You guys, too?” Vincent was holding Beaker Jr close who was crying. He tried to calm him down.
“Well, things aren’t looking good out there.” Cassi is with Chihiro, peeking out the window. “We can’t just risk our lives.”
“Who would do this?” Chihiro recognized seeing these Ammonites before. “I thought those ammonites were gone two years ago!”
“Whoever these guys are, those poor guys in the square are going to get hurt,” Leo commented, “There are children still out there.”
Ami has never seen tension rise like this. She’s covering her ears and closing her eyes tightly. Lee was there to calm his friend down, and he didn’t want to be in this mess either.
“We need to get out of here somehow,” Leo stated. She held her roller close.
“We need to get everyone out of here before someone splats forever.” Cassi is already on a phone to call someone. She kept her Gold Dynamo roller in one hand just in case. “Vanille, we got some trouble here in Inkopolis Square...”
Meanwhile, Agent 7 just arrived back in Inkopolis. He was in Calamari County, negotiating with his mother, and later in Octo-Valley having a meeting with his arch-enemy, Calypso.
When he arrived in old Inkopolis Plaza, there were numerous citizens of Inkopolis Square in tents. Sylver and Jess can be seen doing what they can to comfort them. Robin and friends were there to keep their spirits up. Agent Firefly, Agent 3, Agent 4, and Captain Cuttlefish can be seen assuring protection.
Blueshift and Agent 0 approached. Blueshift and Agent 0 tried not to mention Marie or Agent 7′s situation in finding her. However, both of those Agents know something is up.
“Agent 7, thing’s are heating up in Inkopolis Square, what’s going on?” Agent 0 asked.
“Agent 7, what’s going on?” Agent Blueshift.
Agent 7 soon realizes what happened. Masato and the Rīkībaketto Party have brought a rebellion upon themselves.
“It has begun...” Agent 7 passes by the two agents, and they followed him.
Agent 7 approaches Captain Cuttlefish. He salutes. “Captain!”
“Agent 7, did you figure out the whereabouts of my grand-daughter?” Cuttlefish asked.
Agent 7 shook his head. “Close, but I’ll explain later. Right now, there might be some innocent lives still in Inkopolis Square.”
“I already sent some back-up to execute a rescue mission,” Cuttlefish replied, “It’s not too late to follow them.”
“Is Agent 1 with them?” Agent 7 needed to tell her something.
“She refuses to join... I’m sorry.” Cuttlefish couldn’t explain.
“...Alright.” Agent 7 nods and looks to Blueshift and Agent 0. “You two, with me.”
As Agent 7 superjumps to Inkopolis Square, Agent 0 and Blueshift followed, but each shared a look of concern relating to Marie. They want to know what Agent 7 has found out about Marie and her kidnapping.
As the battle in Inkopolis Square intensifies, there were already Agents in the premises, taking cover. This is the rescue team, made up of Bigfin Splatoon, two agents from Squidforce Splatters named Agent J1.0 and Agent J2.0, and an Agent named Agent 27.
They manage to detect a number of civilians who got caught up in the war in two locations in Inkopolis Square, so they decided to split up to rescue them. Bigfin Splatoon went off to rescue civilians near the stores of Inkopolis Square. The rest handles rescuing a few civilians in a pharmacy. Agent 27 manages to talk with those civilians through a communicator.
“Cassi, are you there?” Agent 27 managed to get her call. She was carrying a hero roller at the moment.
“We’re over here.” Cassi is at the pharmacy’s window, waving to her.
“Who’s in there with you.” Agent 27 is prepared to go towards the pharmacy. It was just across a street.
“Well, there’s Lee, Ami, Leo, Vincent, his kid, Chihiro... and me,” Cassi replied, “We were holding out here for a while because of the fight.”
“We know that, and that’s why Cuttlefish sent some agents here,” Agent 27 replied back.
“Finally, some rescue!” Leo walks over to the window.
Ink-shots suddenly fired on Agent 27′s party, and both everyone had to take cover. Ammonite Ashigaru were pointing their modified bamboozlers.
“Those things got us pinned!” Agent J2.0 stated.
“We can’t get into that pharmacy with those chargers shooting,” Agent J1.0 commented.
Agent 27 had an idea. “Cassi, do any of you guys have your turf wars weapons with you?”
“All except, Vincent and Beaker Jr.” Cassi was looking at everyone in the pharmacy.
“Good, here is what I need you guys to do,” Agent 27 ordered, “we’re going to draw all the firepower, and once they’re exposed, you guys will have to attack them. Afterward, make a run for it. We’ll cover you guys.”
And with that, Agents 27, J1.0, and J2.0 began taking all the fire, distracting those ammonites for Cassi and a few others to use their ink-weapons to splat the enemy. Afterward, they started running to safety with agents covering them.
Suddenly, seven ammonites on horseback delivered a surprise attack on the group. However, they were stopped by three more Agents: Agent 7, Blueshift, and Zero. The ammonite cavalry retreated to join the fight in the square. Agent 7 approaches Agent 27, J1.0, and J2.0 Agent J1.0 and J2.0 saluted. The others know about Agent 7 and were kind of glad he’s here.
“This is it, three agents? Where are the others?” Agent 7 questioned.
“Some are at the stores, rescuing the rest of the civilians,” Agent 27 replied.
Agent 7 sighs and gave them an order. “Get these guys out of there, and get word to Cuttlefish that we need agents to support this rebellion.”
Agent 27 nods and leads her party and the civilians back to safety in Inkopolis Square. Before Agent 7 can continue, Blueshift stops him.
“Agent 7, Zero and I need to speak with you.” Blueshift knew they can’t just talk on a battlefield, but it was a bit urgent. “Something about Marie.”
Agent 7 stopped. He’s listening.
“...What did you find out here when you were searching for Marie?” Agent 0 asked.
Agent 7 didn’t respond for a moment but then replied: “This is between us and us only. I already told enough people about it. So here is what I know, and it has to do with Masato and his political power.”
And he told them the truth about Nakano-868.
Minutes later, Blueshift and Agent 0 would be heading straight for the city hall, leaving Agent 7 to continue rescuing civilians at the Square. The fight was spreading from there all the way to the City Hall where Masato and his party resides.
Blueshift and Agent 0 had a small task from Agent 7: To retrieve whatever intel they can find from the Masato’s office. With the fighting going on, the two manage to break into the city hall and infiltrate the offices. When Blueshift and Agent 0 find Masato’s office, they began searching only to find nothing but empty files and drawers.
But then they heard a groan and a collapse. They leave office to check it out, and they find an injured Mercury. She has a bundle of papers in her hands.
An ammonite in blue and gold armor stood over her, carrying two ink katanas. The banner he carried had the sigil of sparrows and bamboo. Next to that ammonite is an inkling with cyan hair and light skin, wearing a black suit, brown tie, white gloves, and a short top hat -- this is Masato. He smoked a cigar.
“Greetings, spies,” Masato began, “I recognize you two. The Vigilante that the Commodore has hunted for years and the Agent who whiled the Commodore’s retainers.”
“That’s behind us now.” Blueshift has his Quasar Blade ready.
“Why did you do all this to Inkopolis Square?” Agent 0 demanded.
“I’m doing this for the people. For Justice. For the greater good. I’m doing this to make Inkopolis Square prosper.” Masato takes the cigar out of his mouth and blows some smoke. “It’s all that my party believes in.”
“Through witchhunts, crackdowns, and control?” Blueshift carefully stepped forward.
“Date-567,” Masato ordered.
The ammonite in blue and gold armor points two ink katanas at Mercury’s neck.
“One more step and she’ll have no head,” Masato threatened before turning around. “Get those papers if you dare. I have work to do.” He leaves.
Agent 0 takes out his shield and the flaming katana, and he charges at Date-567. The ammonite had to give up decapitating Mercury to guard. Blueshift quickly runs over to pull Mercury away from Date.
“Get these to Sev...,” Mercury mumbled, “He had to see this...” She passes out.
Blueshift gently places her down and gets up to face Date-567.
((BGM: https://youtu.be/xlYCxbBZUCY ))
“It’s time I do a favor for Mitsuhide, Vigilante and Agent.” Date-567 sharpens his katanas, smearing them with ink. “You’re deaths shall be my ascension.”
Blueshift and Agent 0 took the fighting to the main halls. Despite the legislators still in the building, the fight didn’t disrupt the sessions.
All can be seen is flecks of ink and sparks lighting the dark. Date-567 danced like a madman, deflecting the attacks, letting blade meet blade, and ink meet ink. Each clash of blades leave a few drops of ink covering the floors and walls.
Date-567 would do a few flips and quick moves to maneuver the slashes and thrusts. Blueshift and Agent 0 were coordinating every attack they can throw at the ammonite, and the only damages they dealt was on the armor and not the ammonite.
The fight was soon brought to the upper levels of the city hall. The blades kept clashing, and more ink was covering the floors like in Turf wars.
Soon, the fight stopped for a moment. Agent 0 and Blueshift circle Date-567 like predators surrounding their prey. Agent 0 and Blueshift made some eye contact for a moment, each getting the idea that they need to find a way to defeat him.
Agent 0 decided to give it his all and threw all his attacks on the ammonite. Blueshift stepped back to focus and figure out how to defeat him. There were are few damages to the armor, but Date-567 kept an eye for an attack on heavily damaged parts of his armor. Blueshift then figured out the truth: Date-567’s armor is not as tough as it looks.
Blueshift charged at Date-567 only to end up thrown down to the main floor below. Date-567 then threw Agent 0 down. This didn’t cause the two agents to splat.
Date-567 looked down on them, and he sheathed his katanas.
“You’re not yourselves since you defeated the Commodore’s men two years ago! Look are you now!” Date-567 mocked. “Masato will get what he wants out of the Square even if he has to control--”
Mercury, who has finally regained consciousness turns him around, pulls out his katanas, and stabs the ammonite with his own katanas. This time, Date-567 splats, and he will remain dead with the ink-puddles left like carrion.
((End of BGM))
Minutes later, Blueshift, Agent 0, and Mercury, began making their escape before more ammonites come. They would regroup. They didn’t share any sign of saying “Thank you” or “Your welcome”. There’s still a rebellion going on.
The papers that Mercury managed to retrieve all connected to one of Mitsuhide’s goals: A wedding day before the Vernal Equinox. But there was more to the wedding, and Masato is taking advantage of it.
They want to go home.

Way Down We Go
Calypso belongs to @gildedskeleton
“You know,” Helios says as he flies next to her, “this is a bad idea.”
Naos’ grip tightens on her rifle. She knows, she just doesn’t care. She’s angry and she needs to let off some steam. And sure maybe going down into the Hellmouth on her own wasn’t the best course of action but she automatically flew herself to the Moon. Might as well go big. ‘Cause she wasn’t going home.
Home right now was empty for her. Empty of a Gunslinger, empty of a Voidwalker. Empty and cold.
So she marches across the surface of the Moon, leaving boot marks in the dust.
As the Hellmouth comes into view she realises that she never did answer her Ghost’s question.
“I know it is Helios.”
“So,” she sees him fly at the edge of her vision. Staying close but looking around for her. “Why are we going down there?”
“I need to punch something.”
He sighs and says, “And you couldn’t just punch a punching bag because…?”
Naos turns her head to look at her Ghost, squints at him when she does.
“You know why.”
“Right, yeah. Missing partners, empty home and all that.”
Naos closes her eyes and sighs. Briefly thinks if there’s a refund for Ghosts, then shakes her head and keeps moving.
Helios flies around her, doing a full 360° sweep of the area, even flying high to get a better advantage. He’s right above her when he calls out, “Hey, isn’t there usually Fallen around here?”
She stops where she stands and waits. There’s nothing. No one shooting at her, no Eliksni shouts or curses, not even distant Fallen shapes standing around. She thinks about what it could mean and then what she came here for.
She huffs and keeps walking towards the Hellmouth.
Helios flies directly in front of her forcing her to stop. “Naos, this is bad. Can’t you see that?”
“Yes. I can. I just don’t care Helios.”
Guardian and Ghost stare each other down. Each waiting for the other to move, to break. But the Titan’s Ghost is a stubborn as the Titan. Eventually Helios dissipates and his voice comes through her helmet.
“I’m gonna send that info to the Tower. Maybe some competent Guardian will look into it.”
Naos starts walking. Again. She sighs and says, “We’ll look into it when I’m done, okay? No need to go calling in the cavalry. It’s not like they’ll do much anyway.” The last part is filled with bitterness.
They get to an opening on the surface, guarded by two ordinary knights. Both are quickly disposed of with bullets to the head. As Naos stands before it Helios’ voice comes through. It’s quiet and seems small.
“What if you die down there?”
“Then I’ll be dead and no one will know.”
“But what about…?” She knew what he wanted to say. Who he wanted to say. As if their name was taboo now.
“They left,” for the first time, her voice is soft almost sad. “I’m sure whatever Calypso’s doing is important.”
“They never said goodbye.”
Stepping through the opening Naos replies, “No, they didn’t.”
Continuing forward neither Helios or Naos speak as the Guardian mows her way through hordes of thrall that come running at her. She gets to punch some of these ones. It’s easier when there’s only a few at a time. It’s like they never learn.
Going deeper down, she shoots her way past more thrall and acolytes. Using her hand canon to rid them of life. She kills with it until it’s out of bullets and then switches back to her rifle.
She doesn’t know how long she’s been down there, doesn’t know how many dead hive she left in her wake when Helios’ voice breaks through to her.
“Why couldn’t we have just looked for them?”
Naos lets out a frustrated sigh and punches a thrall coming at her from her right. Sparks of lightning come from her fist as it makes contact with the thrall’s head. She waits another second to answer.
“It’s hard to look for someone when they don’t want to be found.”
She hears Helios hum in agreement and she moves forward. Cutting through more hive.
It’s not long after that Naos goes to pull the trigger of her rifle, ready to shoot an acolyte that was for some reason running at her, when nothing happens. She pulls the trigger a few more times just to make sure.
Shit.
She quickly changes to her shotgun and blasts the acolyte in its three-eyed face. As it crumples to dust in front of her she swears very loudly.
“Rifle out of ammo?”
“Yup.”
“Well,” Helios says, “shit.”
She laughs through her nose at that. “My thoughts exactly.”
Helios appears in front of her as she’s replacing the last shell in her shotgun. He goes down and scans the dust. Comes back up and flies around her.
“Okay,” he’s right in front of her, equal height to her helmet. He stares her down. “Two of your guns are out of ammo, that’s not a normal acolyte and the Darkness is getting thicker. Can we please leave now?”
Naos stares at him for a moment then side steps around her Ghost and keeps moving forward. Going down deeper into the hive fortress.
She hears Helios make a frustrated noise behind her then his voice is back through her helmet.
“Do you have a death wish or something?”
“Nope,” she pops the p sound.
“Then why are still down here?”
“I still have my shotgun and my fists. We keep moving.”
Helios gives a very annoyed sigh, but otherwise stays quiet.
Naos walks down a very empty hall with stairs at the end, when she hears a cry echo from the direction she’s facing. Then the sounds of running reach her ears.
“That,” Helios says “does not sound good.”
A few seconds later many thrall and acolytes appear at the end of the hallway, top of the stairs, all running, heading towards her. Naos places her feet, pops a shield in front of her and raises her shotgun.
The thrall come in fast and subsequently blind themselves as they run through her shield. She punches them, not wanting to waste precious ammo. As her shield collapses she moves forward, blasting thrall and acolyte alike with her shotgun. When she uses up a magazine and a half suddenly the acolytes still left stop shooting at her and turn tail. They run back down the stairs and she’s left in silence.
“That,” Helios injects into the silence “can not be good.”
Naos pops another shield in preparation of whatever’s coming. Reloads her shotgun and focuses her light.
The ground underneath her shakes as something moves close by. She watches behind her shield as the top of a knight’s head becomes visible at the stairs. She watches as it grows, as it makes it’s way upstairs. For a brief moment she’s scared, the knight in front of her is huge and she’s alone down here. No one even knows that she’s down here.
The knight stops a few feet away from her. Stares her down as it swings its cleaver around. Naos’ shield drops and she takes off running toward the knight. She jumps up and activates her super, smashes the ground as she lands with lightning where the knight stands.
She stands up as the ground pulsates with aftershocks and looks up at the knight. It stands tall and she swears she can feel it grinning at her. It brings it’s weapon up, hitting her with an uppercut and damaging her immensely, cracking her visor and pushing her back a little.
Naos brings up her shotgun and empties the magazine as the knight runs towards her. It doesn’t flinch even a little and Naos curses as the knight swings wide and its cleaver collides into her left side slamming her against the rough wall of the hallway. Her right shoulder piece gets smashed and falls off.
“Great. We good for another shield Helios?”
“Ready.”
Naos puts up another shield consequently pinning herself against the wall. She uses the time to reload her shotgun and concentrates on her light. The second her shield drops she once again activates her super, once again hitting the ground by the knight with lightning. Once again the knight seems to just shrug it off and lifts its cleaver for another attack. Naos keeps her eyes on the weapon, thinking maybe she can dodge it.
Instead of being hit from the left Naos is captured by the knights left hand. Her back is pushed against the wall and she is lifted up by her head until her feet are dangling. She still holds her shotgun and she lifts it, aims it right at the knight’s head and empties the magazine.
The knight shakes it’s head and squeezes around Naos’ helmet. The crack gets bigger in her visor and eventually it shatters. She feels some of the shards imbed themselves into her face, thankfully none piecing her eyes or coming close to damaging them. The knight squeezes harder.
Naos hears a hiss as Helios undoes the clasps of her helmet. She drops to her feet and suddenly the world is no longer a bright green but rather the muted tones she’s used to.
She quickly moves out of the knights reach. Then slows, loads the last two shells she has into her shotgun and turns to face the knight. It still has her helmet in it’s hand and she watches as it lifts it up for her to see, as if it’s showing it off. It closes it’s fist and the helmet bends and crumples. The sound of it makes her heart sink.
Naos pops another shield, but she notices that it’s already cracking. Standing behind it, she realises her breathing is heavier. She’s pushing herself and her light to the limits.
“We good for another ground pound?”
“I wish,” Helios’ voice comes through her helmet quieter like he’s far away from her, “you didn’t call it that but yes. You’re good.”
Naos smirks at the knight, wipes her brow with the back of her hand. She dislodges some of the shards from her visor, it makes the blood flow more freely down her face. She curses slightly at her own mistake. Hopes it doesn’t impair her vision.
“Could really use some healing here Helios.”
Her Ghost’s voice is the same as last time, quiet, distant. Though this time Naos can hear a hint of panic in his tone. “I… I can’t. The Darkness is overwhelming. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I’ll be fine.” She says the last mostly to convince herself. She’ll be fine.
The knight starts sprinting at her as her shield drops. Once again she jumps into the air and slams the ground when she lands. For the first time it looks like the knight took some damage and staggers back as it’s trapped in the pulsating wake of arc damage.
Naos sprints and slides underneath the knight, empties the last two shells into its abdomen. Now behind it, she bashes the back of one of its knees with the stock of her shotgun. It falls and Naos uses this opportunity to climb on top of it. One arm going around its shoulder to hang on. Once the aftershocks from her Fist of Havoc stop the knight stands and turns. Quickly moves against the wall, it rams Naos’ back against it again. She feels her back piece bend inwards. Can feel it puncture the skin. Can feel hot blood leak from it.
Gathering strength and leftover light, she punches the side of the knight’s head. Sparks fly as her fist makes contact. The knight stumbles away from the wall but reaches behind itself. Once again grabbing a hold of Naos. Though this time it flings her across the hallway. She lands on her back, bounces, flips and lands face down on the floor.
She groans as she pushes herself up, noticing that her chest piece is now cracked, she’s missing more pieces of her armour and that even her under armour is ripped in places. The smell of blood reaches her nose as she stands up and when she looks down at herself she grimaces. She’s not given much time to inspect her wounds before the knight swings at her again.
This time she manages to dodge the attack and watches as the cleaver embeds itself in the ground where she just was. Naos curses in her head then runs at the knight again. Without any weapons left she uses both hands to punch. She centres her blows on the area on its abdomen that she shot earlier. As her punches connect she watches cracks form in the knights armour.
She feels the knight grab her back and pull, sending her flying backwards. She skids across the floor on her back, scruffing up what remains of her armour. The bent back pierce digs into the already bleeding wound and it hurts like hell. She feels the exposed under armour rip and tear, and then new cuts opening up on her body.
Naos grits her teeth, tries not to think of the pain. Tries not to think about the amount of wounds she has. She takes a shaky breath in, and winces, she thinks a few ribs are broken. It wouldn’t surprise her if there was some internal bleeding.
As she stands on shaking legs, Helios’ question echoes in her head. What if you die down there?
Naos looks up at the knight, notices it’s no longer spinning it's cleaver around. Not showing off anymore. She hopes she did a considerable amount of damage to it. Hopes it’s almost dead.
She hears a guttural noise come from the knight and then it charges at her again, if she were to guess she would say it’s pissed. Naos moves as quickly as she can out of the way, delivering two more punches as the knight passes her. It digs its cleaver into the ground ripping it up as it slows down. By the time the knight stops, the cleaver looks fairly stuck in the ground.
The knight runs at her again sans cleaver. Naos plants her feet, raises her fists, if this turns into a boxing match she plans on winning. The knight swings wide and she’s able to duck under it. Delivering two more hits into its abdomen.
In theory she has the advantage here. She just has to hold out, hold out until the knight is dead. Has to keep focus on what she’s doing. The pain can come later.
After a few more of the same tactics, the knight making swings for her and herself continuing to hit that one area, the knight falls. Naos feels nothing except the exhaustion and the pain from her wounds.
Helios appears in front of her and she sees he’s shaking. When he speaks it’s the same, quiet, distant. “We need to go now. You’re very heavily injured.”
Naos goes to laugh, instead she doubles over coughing, ending in her coughing up blood. She spits some of the blood mixed with spit at the feet of the knight.
“Okay, we’re leaving.”
As Naos starts slowly walking by the knight, she hears a cry go out behind her. She stops and half turns, looks at Helios beside her.
“Remember those acolytes that ran away before, do you think they called the cavalry?”
Helios looks to the stairs, then to his Guardian and then back to the stairs. “You need to run. You need to run now Naos.”
Naos goes to start running, realises that it hurts too much so she moves as fast as she can. Unfortunately it’s not fast enough. She gets shot multiple times. Each shot stings and bleeds but keeps moving, she has little to no way to fight back. She hopes she can make it to the surface, to her ship.
After some time, she’s not sure how long, the hive sounds that have followed her thus far are no more. She keeps moving. Moving past the death and destruction that she created. Moving despite the pain, despite the exhaustion, and the darkness that’s closing in around her.
Naos isn’t sure how long she’s been down there but finally, finally she sees the opening that she walked through. She stumbles towards it. Barely makes it out onto the surface of the moon. But she has to keep moving. Just has to get to her ship now.
Naos looks up and she doesn’t believe what she sees. A warlock heading towards her, but they stop and stare. Naos smiles to herself, they’re okay. She goes to take a step forward but her legs give out. Had to happen eventually.
As she falls and the blackness consumes her, she swears that she can hear them shouting her name.
The next time consciousness comes to Naos she’s still in the dark. She can hear someone talking though she doesn't know who or what they’re saying. It’s soft and muffled but the words aren’t making sense. Then there’s silence but only for a beat and someone’s yelling. The words are nothing but noise but she knows… she knows that voice. Calypso.
She wants to call out. Wants to hold Calypso in her arms and never let go. Wants to tell them that she loves them and they’re not allowed to run off on her again.
But her mouth won't open. Her body won't move. And the blackness consumes her again.
She wakes to the sound of a machine beeping and it takes her a while to realise its in tune with her heart. Slowly she opens her eyes and is greeted with the most beautiful sight she’s ever seen.
Calypso is bent over her bed, head resting on folded arms, fast asleep. Naos realises that they are holding onto her hand and she smiles to herself. She takes their joined hands, brings them her lips and places a soft kiss on Calypso’s. She closes her eyes and welcomes the more peaceful sleep that follows.
Home was no longer empty.

The Trials of Apollo #1: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
Now, I’d like to preface this review by stating that the reading of this series without prior knowledge of previous books in this universe, while possible, would be difficult. So while I recommend everyone to read Rick Riordan’s mythology books (they’re gold and they teach you a lot of shit about the ancient civilizations), for ToA, you really need to read Percy Jackson & The Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus first. And then get around to this. Because this book is good.
Here, we get to read first person POV (which I really do think is Rick’s strong suit) about Apollo (yes, the Greek God) being turned into this skinny ass mortal with flab and acne and - the coup de grace really - stuck with the name Lester Papadopoulos. Which. Honestly. How could you pass up on that? And Apollo, while I do admit was kind of an ass sometimes and really annoying (are all Greek gods that egotistical? Wait. Don’t answer that question) was really entertaining the rest of the time.
Rating: 8.8/10
An Overview:
That whole bit in the beginning, where Apollo met Meg the Dumpster Girl and then had to traipse through the city to find Percy was my least favorite part. Probably why I actually paused and put the book down. I know right? Shocker.
But then we got to Camp Half-Blood and things picked up a lot. Apollo trying to greet his kids (his cabinmates? His friends? What does he call them?!) was priceless. Hearing about Meg’s exploits in the meantime was a nice touch (good job, Crotchkicker).
But then we learn about Rachel. And the Oracle. (Well, I guess I learn, because I’d apparently forgotten that Apollo had been punished back in HoO? Well, nevermind.) We learn campers are disappearing. We learn shit is bad. Apollo has these weird-ass dreams (which, uh, usually I have a decent background on Greek mythology, but these two were just weird).
It was a little odd for me for them to not be thrown into a quest and leave camp so early on. I was always waiting for a quest...and then forgot that the Oracle (aka. Rachel) wasn’t exactly working. So no quest. The Catch-88 or whatever Apollo called it.
And then there’s the three-legged race. That was...interesting. Mostly because it was kind of adorable how everyone just wanted to please this little Hephaestus kid. Apollo and Meg were, naturally, bound together. And then thrown into the labyrinth. Which. Whoa. Did not see that coming. Who knew Daedalus’s labyrinth would be such a throwback? So we traipse around a bit in a really dark maze. And then, of course, we end up in Delphi. Where we meet the Beast and the Python. And then we learn shit is about to go down.
So we travel into the woods. We meet the geyser dude (ah, there’s Rick’s nice weirdly-modernized touch). And then Meg gets captured. By....giant ants? Apollo is saved by Rhea. Which. Did not see that coming.
He goes back to camp. Heals. Decides, oh fuck it, and takes the bow and arrows. He already broke half of his promise on the Styx anyways (which, idiot, why would you swear that?) and delves right back into the woods. The ant hive. Those couple minutes of him shooting every ant was great. He rescues Meg (eventually, after some trouble). Apollo naming the queen ant-thing Mama was just a nice touch. (Which, thank God he did, because we needed her help later on.) And then they were out into the clearing. The entrance to Dodona. And we meet the first of three Triumvirates.
Nero. Now, I have no idea who Nero is. But. He kind of sounds like an ass. And he’s Meg’s stepfather? Now, I can’t say I didn’t see it coming, because I did have this half-suspicion formed in the back of my mind, but really, Meg? That’s just a bit ridiculous. But thankfully, Meg comes around, eventually, although she totally still leaves. (Which. Apollo is bound to her still. So how’s that gonna work?) We get some prophecies from Dodona. Yay. Then we go back to camp and all is well, right?
Nope. There’s Giant Naked Apollo strolling up the beach. Ah. There’s that potential problem Nero mentioned. They’re all a mess. It’s kind of bad. (But kinda cute when Apollo’s kids still were so eager to help, even after the mess they just went through. I guess it just goes to show. Demigods are sturdy af.)
Still, was I glad to see Percy at the end. That was nice. “The weekend had arrived.” The cavalry, more like it. Thank God. Oh, and good job causing hay fever in Giant You, Apollo. And then we get that lovely fluff bit at the end with Leo and Calypso? Adorable. The line that was formed so everyone could punch Leo was great, and Apollo realizing Calypso had willingly left her island and given up her immortality for this elfish boy was pure gold.
The Characters:
Can we talk about Nico and Will for a second? (Do they have a ship name? Solangelo? Lol. God their names are hard to combine.) To be honest, I totally forgot they existed. No, not that they as characters existed, but like, they existed. So when Apollo first saw them together, I was like “whaaaaa?” Because I totally remember in House of Hades where Jason (the fucking idiot, really) thought Nico was in love with Annabeth and we had to jump through those hoops, but it obviously never registered to me that Will and Nico were together-together until, well, now. And boy, must I say they are great. They’re so entertaining. Like, the bickering is adorable. And how Nico is all “I have to sit with my boyfriend because I have a doctor’s note given to me by my boyfriend...who is also my doctor”. Like, they are cute af.
Now. The heart of the problem: Meg. Meg was....well. Meg was ratty and dumpster girl and rebellious (and obviously Demeter’s daughter as soon as we saw her throw fruit and summon a grain spirit, but hey, some people can be dumb) and she was fun. She was Crotchkicker and Eyebruiser on Day One and she was great. She was also, for all her hemming and hawing, obviously a spy. Well, she was obviously the spy as soon as we overheard the Beast mentioning there was a spy. She skirted around talks of her stepfather and obviously froze up with the mentioning of the Beast (at the sound of his voice?). But she’s Meg. She’s resilient. And, well, she’s still tied to Apollo, so they’ve gotta figure something out there. Maybe they’ll have to go find her (save her?) in one of their quests? Or they just run into her again? Idk.
And what about Apollo, our lovely protagonist. A god. Who knew? Reading first person POV from Apollo was weird. Enlightening, but weird. Yes, I was annoyed - especially in the beginning - with how he ranted about how great and awesome he was and how everyone should bow at his feet and how if he only had his godly powers, he could totally smite them all. It definitely took me a while to accept the fact that he couldn’t accept he was mortal. Not completely. Eventually, he improved his outlook on humans, but in the beginning, God I was pissed. However, the fact that it was never really forgotten that he was mortal - that he couldn’t do all this magic that he was used to with the snap of a finger - was nice. He wasn’t omnipotent. He had to rely on others. And I do think he became a better person-god from it. He learned from his kids. These kids, whom he barely acknowledged when he was a god, still risked their lives to help him. Wasn’t that admirable? The one thing I really hope is that, in the end of his whole journey (trials, whatever) he doesn’t forget them and, after he’s a god again, he actually still spends time with them and cares a little more. That would be a nice bit of character development.
Questions:
Do you think the Labyrinth will come into play again?
Eventually, yes. I think, in general, a lot of the things we’ve encountered in the past two series will come into play, because there are only so many Greek/Roman myths we can poke around in. It’s not like Riordan can conjure up more. Also, the Labyrinth has, supposedly, spread throughout the world, so it can basically bring anyone anywhere. And isn’t that terrifying.
What do you think will happen next?
Well, the bit we got from the Dedona trees mentioned Indiana, right? And they sit the Triumvirate had split up North America into thirds...Indiana is in the middle of America, right? (Yes, great job Emilie. Much thought it took to come up with that idea.) I just hope Festus can be helpful the whole journey this time, instead of breaking down halfway. I loved that dragon in HoO.
So that’s that really. When does the second book come out? What’s it called? The Dark Prophecy. Huh. Well, that bodes well.

Colors That Run Highlights 19
haha,,
During the night, Calypso dreamed(?) of a cacophony of whispers, as if a crowd were whispering to each other all at once, along with the distant rattling of chains. The whispers seemed to almost chant about Calypso having “forsaken the coin,” being “one of us,” and being “free of body, damned of mind.” Upon Calypso’s waking and muttering about sleeping horribly, Fea lamented that she must’ve not projected her presence well enough or something. Calypso shut this line of thinking down and headed downstairs.
Corrin rolled for beard, thanks to his Belt of Dwarvenkind. No beard yet though.
Breakfast with the Stonehammers was... tense. None of the party sat near Sera, so Corrin scooted up close to her. Dainsleif, in true dad fashion, seemed mostly unaware of the tension.
It was quite possible that Sera had seen through Kattie’s cover story the previous evening, and her response to that appeared to be making passive aggressive comments. Calypso, already having a bad day, was not helping by making her own barbs about Sera making them all do chores for free.
At one point Sera made a snide comment like “Oh yes, I’m sure all of you are very committed to keeping my boy out of danger” while giving a pointed look at Fea (who she knew had gone berserk that one time). Calypso gave a death glare at Sera. Sera maintained the eye contact just as steadily. By this time Slim and Corrin were sweating.
Corrin tried to deceive his mother (scandalous) about Kattie and Slim’s ruse, but Sera saw right through that shit. Corrin ran off to the bathroom to have a miniature panic attack.
When Kattie got up to leave, Sera asked her to help with dishes, but Kattie didn’t go for it and headed outside. Slim and Dave followed suit. Sera made a “bless her heart” comment about Kattie being blind and deaf, and tbh if Fea weren’t there Calypso might’ve done something stupid then.
Fea helped Sera with the dishes and tried making nice with her, to not much success. Though she did find out from Sera that a few people in town had gone missing during the Tinker Festival a couple months ago. She and Calypso then went outside, collecting Corrin on the way. Calypso complained about Sera being shady... hopefully out of earshot?
The group made their way to the town’s public board, finding months old missing persons posters. But, recalling that Piory and his partner had gone north investigating the cases, Fea suggested consulting him for info. Conveniently, Piory was hovering around the tavern’s corner, so Fea went over to speak to him alone while the rest of the group waited.
After Piory explained his story to Fea, she told him that some of the party were “bloodthirsty” so she would stand in front of him and protect him from them, if need be.
Slim, meanwhile, had gone into the tavern and walked back out with a margarita. Calypso looked like a dog about to be let off her leash.
Together, Fea and Piory rounded the corner. Piory said that he would accept whatever Corrin wanted to do to him as payback for all the bullying he did when they were kids. Before Piory could finish speaking, Corrin cast Magic Missile at him.
Corrin’s spell killed Piory.
Piory fell to the ground dead, in broad daylight. With witnesses.
Slim and Kattie attempted to resuscitate Piory, to no avail. Fea poured a healing potion down his throat, to no effect. Calypso took off running, following her instinct to get away from the crime scene.
Thinking quickly, Kattie made the suggestion that they should restrain Corrin and haul him out of town. Create the appearance of a member of the Cavalry detaining the criminal. Slim and Fea hauled both Corrin and Kattie onto Xio and sent them on their way to the Hospitality Hut about a day’s travel from Lavolis. When the authorities showed up, Slim used his position to feed them a convincing story, and they passed off Piory to the authorities. They would have to inform his grandmother of the incident.
Fea actually name dropped Calypso before the authorities left the scene (previously, Slim had only given up his own name), but nonetheless they managed to find Calypso and collect her so the whole group could meet up at the hut.
Meanwhile, on the way to the hut, Corrin and Kattie discussed what happened. Corrin said that he hadn’t meant to kill Piory, and that he should go back and turn himself in. Kattie told him that even if he hadn’t meant to do it, it was a reckless casting of a spell over childhood bullying, and now he was dead.
With everyone gathered at the hut about a day later, Corrin had Shut Down, not speaking or even moving much. Slim despaired his way through the appropriate paper work, with Dave trying his best to help him through it.
Fea made a comment about how Calypso tends to think of herself as the biggest fuck up and yet this was all due to Corrin’s mistake instead. Despite her intentions to... make Calypso feel better? Calypso told her to fuck off and went back into the hut. She sat next to Corrin, though she didn’t try to initiate conversation with him.
Outside, Kattie admitted to Fea that she... kinda didn’t feel all that bothered about the death/murder aspect of it all. They suspected this was an effect of the deal made with Asmodeus.
In an attempt to lighten the mood, Fea went outside to experiment with the “unpleasant” setting on the magical decanter. Turns out, it’s a high powered geyser of water on command. Kattie got drenched by this feature, oops. Fea invited Calypso and Corrin outside to try it, but only Calypso went out. It was certainly a cool trick, but Calypso told Fea it just was not going to make things better. But hey, at least she’s trying.
Once everyone was in the hut at once, Calypso made a short speech basically defending Corrin: he did something stupid because he was mad and didn’t think all the way through what he was doing, and it’s awful that Piory was dead now and people would miss him, but Corrin wasn’t a bad guy and the group was not going to keep laying into him. And it was agreed, they were in this together.
Watches were taken for the night, but somehow Corrin was able to sneak out through a window. In the morning, no one could find him, so they rushed off back toward Lavolis.
The town appeared restless. Its people were gathered in the town square, in front of Sera’s bakery, where there was a collection of guards on a stage, along with a basket and Corrin with his hands bound and mouth covered. This was... an execution.
The crowd had some mixed thoughts on this situation, some in favor, some not. One of the guards declared that murder is punishable by death, and that the crime was witnessed by citizens and members of the Cavalry. He explained that Corrin had turned himself in, and while he would perish here, he would go on to do better in the next life. Corrin was allowed to give some his final words: “I’m sorry.”
Kattie began casting a spell to get Corrin out of there, while Fea and Calypso rushed to the platform. Slim and Dave froze up.
Then, from above the scene descended a thick black cloud. Kattie, Slim, and Dave were approached from behind by Seraphina Stonehammer, who gave them cloths to cover their mouths and told them to keep their faces hidden. Dainsleif Stonehammer stopped Fea and Calypso and gave them cloths as well, telling them not to breath in the gas (it was experimental).
The crowd and the guards fell to the ground, put to sleep by the gas. Corrin also succumbed to the gas, and Fea picked him up. Dainsleif told them to take care of his boy, and to get the hell out of there.
Mounting the two horses, the party ran like the wind out of Lavolis and returned to the Hospitality Hut. Slim asked Dave to board up the windows so that Corrin wouldn’t sneak out again, and when Corrin finally came to (still being held by Fea), he thought he was dead and he was now in the afterlife. When he realized what had happened, the kid started crying. Calypso told him to let it out and patted his head. When she welcomed him to being a criminal, Slim got up and left the hut.
Fea again tried the strategy of messing with the magic decanter, and this time Corrin went for it. Shenanigans ensued, where Calypso actually wanted to get hit with the water gun, but Corrin kept “missing.” Eventually though Calypso got her wish, and actually took some damage, which Corrin healed afterward. See, everything is fiiiiiine
Dave and Slim had a talk, because Slim was having a Time. He hated how he froze up in Lavolis, and how he’s worried that he could lose everything he’s built his life around with the Cavalry and all because of what’s happened.
During the night on Kattie’s watch, she idly played on her guitar, as usual. But she admitted to Fea that something felt... missing from her music lately, but she couldn’t figure out what or why.
In the earliest hours of the morning (during Slim’s usual watch), Slim spotted a distant crowd approaching the party’s current location. He doused the fire immediately and he and Fea mobilized everyone else. The party took off in a rush, on the run.

ATTENTION HELLDIVERS FIGHTING THE ILLUMINATE MENACE
The SES Leviatian of Destruction and the SES Forerunner of Battle are forming a division of Helldivers dedicated to destroying the anti-democratic menace known as the Illuminate.
According to our current limited intel, the Illuminate seem to be taking our citizens, turning them into mindless thralls for their un-democratic cause. Our primary mission is Civilian Evacuation, considering these are the squid's most high-value objectives.
No matter the planet, if the Illuminate are there, so are we. We swear vengeance for the lives taken by their mind-controlling cult.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION: DIVE FENRIR, NOT SQUIDS
The building of the Fenrir III Research Station is of vital importance. Right now, we have divers that can rescue civilians from Asperoth, but doing so enough to push the squids off would risk losing the station we need to research the squids.
The Illuminate are attacking our planets as a diversion from the MO, please focus on the MO first, knowledge is power against these things. Calypso's Cavalry will do its best to rescue civilians from the Squids while the majority of divers fight for Fenrir.
