"Entren los que quieran" / Calle 13
Year: 2010
Country: 🇵🇷 (Puerto Rico)
Genre: Rap / Rock / Merengue
One of the albums that, in my opinion, represents Latin America. A mix of danceable rhythms and lyrics with social commitment, which talk about issues that affect its people such as "trigger-happy" and violence, migration, poverty and extractivism, being precisely the song "Latinoamérica" the one that best expresses the Latin American identity. The title of the album, "Entren los que quieran" is a message of welcome to the whole world, but beware, Calle 13 warns that when oppressed, latines organize and fight.
Fave song ⭐: "El hormiguero"

Residente's song & music video for "This is Not America" is waaaaaay better than Donald Glover's song & music video for "This is America."
I just think "This is America" got more popularity bc it came out during Trump's 1st administration (2018) where he ignored racial violence & police brutality, and that made everyone with a brain and heart pissed tf off. "This is Not America" came out in 2022 when there weren't a lot of big events happening in Latin America that a lot of USians would hear about.

"This song is in spanish, so I don't know if it'll get in (I sent in a video with english subtitles, if it helps), but it's probably the only song that makes me cry literally EVERY TIME I listen to it. This text is a very long and corny, I'm sorry. Feel free to ignore. I'm latin american, and the thing is, you grow up hearing of all of the problems that happen in your country and neighbouring countries. From our history as former colonies (and all of the issues this still causes in our current societies), to corruption, to the massive exploitation we still go through from first world countries. When you're young you struggle with how you see yourself and your people, because media (ESPECIALLY foreign media) talks about us as if we are worth less, and that sentiment is doubled if they're talking about immigrants. As you grow up, it's easier to see the nuance in this sentiment, and to acknowledge that THERE ARE good things about our countries, even if a foreign someone doesn't see it. Even with all of these issues, I LOVE my country. I love latinamerican people. I love our culture, I love our traditions, I love how we are always trying to turn our situation around, how we try to improve and support each other, how we continue walking foward even if that is difficult. This song, from Calle 13, is a celebration to Latin America. It points out our painful history and some of the issues we go through now, but it focuses on how we persevere. About being proud of your roots. AGUANTE LATINOAMÉRICA!"
In The Hall Of The Mountain King (Edvard Grieg)
"It's like, THE OG fuck-you-up song. Starts off calm and ramps up to be fucking insane. Anxiety incarnate. Imagine being one of the first people to listen to this back in the 1800s, I would've had a heart attack"

"hay una vía láctea repleta de neuronas porque reproducimos más ideas que personas
no somos pequeños, ni muy grandes tampoco somos muchos y también somos pocos
somos el golpe cuando aterriza y también somos la piel cuando cicatriza
la muerte nunca nos venció porque todo lo que muere es por que alguna vez nació"

Didn't post about it but I saw Residente last week and it was INCREDIBLE. One of the best concerts I've been to ever, easily. Very nice to see him do something more conceptual (separation of the stage into Residente and René, the stenographer and the painter), you could tell his heart was in it. Biracyheads go listen to Calle 13 right now

Tomar una decisión siempre parece algo muy fácil de hacer. Lo que realmente es difícil es mantenerla.
Ahora entiendo cuando René dijo “si quieres cambio verdadero pues camina distinto”.

Since I was a kid I enjoyed listening to Calle13, and always loved "Electro movimiento", but my favorite part of that song was this.
I don't know, it's just that that part was EPIC.
🎶 Let's get ready to rumble! Break the code, free the hold Within the circuitry of my soul I can't wait for you to grow Into the man you’ll be when you're old Uh-huh, you think I’m cold But I'm just letting you know You can't mess with a woman who’s bold It’s now or never before I explode! Homosexuales, lesbianas, bisexuales Bestialistas, pedófilos, heterosexuales Bailando el electro-movimiento Para bailar esto no tienes que tener talento ... 🎶
