Exploring San Clemente, California: A Coastal Gem
San Clemente is a coastal town situated in Southern California and is rich in history, beautiful beaches, and a downtown area. San Clemente is an ideal location for a beach vacation full of relaxation and plenty of activities.
San Clemente Beaches:
San Clemente is most famous for its picturesque beaches. The San Clemente pier is a must visit and has been there since 1928. It has been rebuilt twice, once in 1939 and 1983, due to heavy storms. The pier is an amazing spot to go for a walk, watch surfers catch waves, or take in the beautiful scenery. Moreover, during the Christmas season, the city puts a decorated tree at the end of the pier to show off the town’s holiday spirit. For those that are wanting to relax by the sand and catch their own waves, Riviera and T-Street beach are the perfect family friendly place. In San Clemente there are two state parks, Calafia and San Onofre. Both of these state parks are great to either explore for only a day with a day pass or go camping overnight. San Onofre state park can only be accessed with a vehicle, while Califia state park can be accessed by the public if you plan on committing to a long walk. If you are feeling adventurous, rent out a surfboard and surf San Onofre’s world class waves that are perfect for beginners.
Downtown San Clemente:
For those that are wanting to do a bit of shopping, Downtown Del Mar is the perfect place. Del Mar is lined with a variety of boutiques, children’s stores, surf shops, jewelry stores, and local eateries. Additionally, Del Mar has a multitude of restaurants with different cuisines so there is something that caters for everyone. If you're in the mood for a pastry, coffee, or brunch, Chaupain Bakery is the place. If you’re in the mood for seafood and fish tacos, plan on going to Seasurf Fish Co. There is something for everyone at Downtown Del Mar.
San Clemente Outlets:
Additionally, for those that are wanting to do more shopping or catch a movie, the San Clemente Outlets should be at the top of your list. The outlets consist of over 60 stores, such as Nike, H&M, Lululemon, Levis, and Pandora. After a successful shopping spree, there are plenty of quick bites or sit down restaurants. Head over to Asada Cantina and Kitchen for happy hour or for margaritas and dinner. The San Clemente outlet is also known for its weekly Cars and Coffee event that is held every Saturday from 9am to 11am, where thousands of vintage, classic, supercar, exotics, pickups, and supercars are open to spectators. This is an absolute must see, especially for those that love admiring cars.

The Dana Point Harbor is the perfect spot for visitors to walk the waterfront, dine at seaside restaurants, admire the boats in the harbor, or shop at their local boutiques. The harbor is busy with kayakers, paddleboarders, and boats, which all contribute to the vibrant maritime atmosphere. The Headlands Conservation Area Trail is a must visit in Dana Point given its breathtaking views and the potential of seeing local wildlife, such as dolphins, whales, and sea birds. All three of these beaches are the perfect locations to either sunbathe, surf, picnic, or go for a walk. Given the popularity of these locations, it is recommended that visitors leave early in the morning in order to beat the crowds during the afternoon. Additionally, Salt Creek and Doheny are the only two of the three beaches that have nearby cafes for quick bites. Moreover, to get to Salt Creek and Strands, there is a bit of a walk involving stairs and steep inclines so it is advised to bring a wagon if you plan on bringing many beach essentials. Lasty, Strands is the only beach of the three that has free parking.
Best Restaurants for Food Lovers
There are a plethora of delicious restaurants amongst Dana Point and given the diversity of cuisines, there will be something for everyone.
