Brown-Clubbed Spider Orchid, Caladenia phaeoclavia
Wikipedia lists it as endemic to New South Wales, but this is a painting from one I found in Victoria, Australia.

A Walkabout in the Wildflowers
A Walkabout in the Wildflowers
It’s been some time since I saw new wildflowers. The weather has been mostly lousy for visiting the best areas we have, Luckily, being on the Murrumbateman Landcare committee recently gave me the privilege of a walkabout in Nanima with the people most skilled at identifying all the fabulous things around us. Unlike our place, it has only intermittently been grazed by sheep and the historic…

Birdflowers (Crotalaria cunninghamii)
Sturt's desert pea (Swainsona formosa)
Fringe lilies (Thysanotus spp.)
Geraldton wax (Chamelaucium uncinatum)
Illyarrie (Eucalyptus erythrocorys)
Moodjar/West Australian Christmas tree (Nuytsia floribunda)
Native wisteria (Hardenbergia comptoniana)
Most local orchids
Pansy orchids (Diuris sp.), cowslip orchids (Caladenia flava), spider orchid (Caladenia sp.), pink fairy orchids (Caladenia latifolia)
Honestly, so many pea flowers
(Best photos I had to hand - ya gal is mostly housebound nowadays (and doesn't drive), plus the first two aren't native where I live now, but where I grew up... well, Geraldton wax also isn't native here, but it's a widespread weed that's native further north. But all my photos except for Moodjar [credited])
What's everyone's favourite flowers that aren't like. The normal ones. Like everyone's a fan of roses and sunflowers what's a more niche one. One you don't get in gift sets. Mine's sweet peas

Pink fingers orchid, Caladenia carnea
Another super common orchid in my area - these little guys are tiny and I almost always find them right next to sundews, which are local carnivorous plants. We find them in white, pale pink, and intense pink, which feels like different subspecies.
