the hushed chatter of their friends' behind them as they inched along through darkened corridor brought maria to shoot a glance back at them, hand loosely holding on to the crook of lee's arm next to her. braving the corner-turns together up ahead of the rest. shrieks made the both of them jolt from somewhere up ahead, where they couldnt see past dimmed, flickering lights just barely illuminating where they're intended to continue forward. maria draws herself closer to lee, hugging around his arm instead, hand slipping down to his hand to hold as they both shoot widened eyes at one another and stifle a laugh at the others' responding in turn to the sudden shouts up ahead — grinning as they creep forward, so very bravely, to get jumped out at and scared, first. they slow only as they start to approach the upcoming corner, another look shot at one another, and lees' shoulders' rise as he breathes in, puffing himself up, preparing for the worst, and begins to round the corner, maria peering around him following suit— shadowed figure lunges at them, a terribly gut-wrenching scream coming from grotesque face as it floats into view from the shadows, and the pair jump right out of their skin and shriek back at them — instinctively her arms tighten and draw him closer to her, away from the figure, as her throat rips apart at the surprise, and lees' own grasp at her, protectively, to bring her closer and partly behind himself, before the scare actor passes them by, and shrieks behind them sound out, along with the whacking of arms by connie, hissing as she scolds danny and raph from the pair of them howling in laughter from the back of their little group. maria, heart racing a mile a minute in her chest, looks up at lee, in the dim light, and sees his eyes staring after the actor in shock, before his attention drops down to her. a stare is briefly shared between them, and then laughter bubbles out past their lips, overlapping the curses and snaps back and forth behind them, as they untangle their arms from one another and they continue on through the haunted house, hand grasping his. her cheeks stinging from the grin across her face that simply grows every moment they look at one another, throat burning from the giggles shared between them as they push on forward together—
