The article on "The Armory Life" presents a review of the CRKT CEO knife, written by Randall Chaney. The author, who transitioned from law enforcement to a more corporate role, discusses the suitability of the CRKT CEO knife as an everyday carry (EDC) for those in an office setting. The knife, crafted by custom bladesmith Richard Rogers, is noted for its refined and discreet design, which aligns well with professional attire. The CEO's low-profile styling includes a slender structure with glass-reinforced nylon scales, a 3.1-inch blade made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, and a sophisticated Ikoma Korth Bearing System for smooth blade deployment. The knife features a subtle thumb stud for slow dual-hand opening, preventing any dramatic displays, and a deep-carry pocket clip for discretion. Priced at $45, this knife offers style, functionality, and affordability, making it an appealing choice for corporate environments. Randall Chaney finds that the CRKT CEO excels in daily office tasks and appreciates its blend of efficiency, elegance, and value.

New Knives!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CRKT CEO for a formal knife, and a Bestech Platypus for a general work knife.
The Sheepsfoot blade style has come back in fashion, and I think it's a good utility shape, especially with a slight belly in it like this one. I never use the tips of my knives for stabbing anyway so having something sturdier is nice. Plus I just think the Platypus is cute, it's just a very fun shape. First time owning a D2 steel knife, although I've looked after carbon steel knives before so it should be fine.
CEO is the older model, which is tip-down and a thumb stud instead of tip-up and a flipper. The detent is way too tight but that's easy enough to fix.

Agilenano - News: submitted by Mikey Bautista Every day, readers like you proudly...
submitted by Mikey Bautista Every day, readers like you proudly share photos of their everyday carry on the site. Not only is looking through their pockets this way super interesting, but it’s also a great way to find really cool gear you never even knew existed (yet somehow, suddenly need…). When you hover over an item you like and click on it in these photos, you’re also letting other EDCers know you find that gear interesting. Each click gets recorded to create a data-driven ranking of the most popular gear, which you can find in our Gear section of the site found in the top menu bar. Gear with the most views and clicks climbs its way to the top of this feed and lets the EDC community know what’s trending right this second. This past March you were keen on compact tools, sleek gent’s knives, and high-performance multi-tools. Let’s take a look at all the gear you were most interested in… Content Content 1 - 10. Böker Plus Gnome 2 - 9. Victorinox Compass Tool 3 - 8. Spinnaker Hull Automatic 4 - 7. Gerber Pocket Square 5 - 6. CRKT CEO 6 - 5. Spyderco Para Military 2 7 - 4. Kershaw Showtime 8 - 3. Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card 9 - 2. Kizer Feist 10 - 1. Leatherman FREE T4 10. Böker Plus Gnome Purchase Specifications Brand Böker Plus Model 02BO270 Reviews 124 reviews Price $ Starting off March’s trending gear is the Böker Plus Gnome: a compact and classy neck knife that, even at just 4" long overall, delivers plenty of utility and performance for EDC. The contoured handles provide a comfortable two-finger grip, thanks to the large finger choil that helps you control the knife while in use. The scales themselves are shaped from Micarta combined with red fiber inner layers for a bit of contrast and style. The Gnome’s 2" satin-finished sheepsfoot-style blade is useful for light cutting and slicing tasks, and the 440C stainless steel it’s ground gives it high resistance to wear and corrosion—perfect for a knife that you’ll likely be having on you at all times. The included Kydex sheath protects the blade and lets you loop in cord to make this a neck knife or to mount it on your gear. At 2 ounces, the Böker Plus Gnome is a tiny companion you wouldn’t mind taking along for those times that you need a small but reliable edge on hand. Check It Out 9. Victorinox Compass Tool Purchase Specifications Brand Victorinox Model VIC-30482 Reviews 61 reviews Price $ Despite carrying the Victorinox name, this uncommon tool at ninth place comes in neither Alox nor Cellidor scales, but instead packs 4 survival-oriented functions into a flat, compact package. The tool comes with a compass, ruler (3.15“ / 8 cm), magnifying glass, and a thermometer, and comes in a design you can slip flush into a pocket or compact survival kit. It’s a no-frills way to add essential functionality to your outdoors EDC. Check It Out 8. Spinnaker Hull Automatic Purchase Specifications Brand Spinnaker Model SP-5059-04 Reviews No reviews yet Price $$$$ With a 42mm case showing off its large vintage, dive-watch inspired dial, the Hull Automatic makes an eye-catching statement, especially at night when the Super LumiNova-coated pips and hands let loose with their lume. During the day, a deep brown sunburst dial that matches its strap lets the Hull give a natural touch to any outfit. And last but not least, a Japanese caliber TMI NH35 automatic movement secured in the Hull’s 100 meter-resistant case with a date complication and power reserve of 41 hours takes care of its beating heart. Check It Out 7. Gerber Pocket Square Purchase Specifications Brand Gerber Model 30-001363 Reviews 168 reviews Price $ Clean lines, great cutting performance, and a deep pocket carry make the Gerber Pocket Square a great gentleman’s carry. This version features machined aluminum scales that adorn the 3.9" long handle and give it durability and grip. The blade sits flush with the handle when closed, and is deployed with the textured ambidextrous thumb lifts. The blade’s 3" length and drop-point shape lets it handle common EDC cutting and slicing tasks. It’s held securely in place during use by a liner lock mechanism, which like the thumb lift, integrates seamlessly with the streamlined design of the knife. The pocket clip is reversible for left or right hand carry, and offers an extra-deep pocket profile. This makes for for a deep and discreet carry right at home in a work or formal setting. Check It Out 6. CRKT CEO Purchase Specifications Brand CRKT Model 7096 Reviews 788 reviews Price $ The CRKT CEO stands out with its letter opener-esque slim and narrow silhouette which sits discreetly in your pocket thanks to its tip-down, ultra deep-carry clip. It deploys manually via thumb studs on smooth IKBS bearings, locking into a liner. The 3.1" 8Cr13MoV, flat ground, plain edge blade gives you plenty of cutting edge to work with, coming to a narrow tip for precision work. Its glass reinforced nylon handles provide a solid, ergonomic grip and keeps weight down to just over 2 ounces total. It’s an excellent EDC in and out of the office, and sits at last month’s sixth slot. Check It Out 5. Spyderco Para Military 2 Purchase Specifications Brand Spyderco Model C81GPBK2 Reviews 417 reviews Price $$$$ When talking about all-time classic Spyderco knives (not to mention all-time great knives in general), it’s hard to avoid talking about the Para Military 2. With solid features like a CPM S30V blade with trademark thumbhole and full-grip G10 handles paired with excellent balance, ergonomics and security thanks to its patented Compression Lock, there’s a reason it’s become an EDC staple. The black scales and blacked-out drop point blade gives a nod to its tactical heritage while allowing it to be the centerpiece of any stealthy EDC. Check It Out 4. Kershaw Showtime Purchase Specifications Brand Kershaw Model 1955 Reviews 132 reviews Price $ The Kershaw Showtime was designed—as its name suggests—for those times when you’re trying to look your sharpest. Its 3" long drop point blade keeps it legal in most places (always check your local laws) and deploys quickly thanks to the integrated flipper tab and the spring-assisted opening of Kershaw’s Speedsafe system. The blade’s 8Cr13MoV steel is done up in a combination of satin and black for a contrasting theme that’s carried throughout the design, and it’s more than capable of handling your daily EDC cutting and slicing tasks. Silver hardware and standoffs contrast with the black stainless steel handle to keep the theme going, and provide an easy-to-clean flow-through design. A hex nut styled pivot adds more visual flair, while a black deep carry clip keeps it discreet in the pocket. All that style in a easily pocketable 3.67 ounces. Check It Out 3. Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card Purchase Specifications Brand Grim Workshop Model Jordan Jonas Signature Reviews No reviews yet Price $ In the third slot for march is the Grim Workshop Jordan Jonas Signature Card, featuring nine different outdoor and survival-centric functions that you can easily pack it in your wallet, or compact survival tin. This hardened stainless steel survival card features an arrowhead tip that you can use as a spike to enhance a deadfall trap for catching small game, which you can make with the included Paiute trigger and trap assembly. Two small hook-and-lure combos and four slightly larger hooks ensure you’re stocked for fishing, and a net weaving shuttle lets you sew and mend your net in a pinch. It holds an awl for leatherworking and a sewing needle for some quick repairs, and also includes the small but useful Sharpener Card for light field maintenance of your tools and blades. Check It Out 2. Kizer Feist Purchase Specifications Brand Kizer Model Ki3499S Reviews 7 reviews Price $$$$ Equipped with some of the finest materials around on its handles and blade, the Justin Lundquist-designed Kizer Feist is an elegant expression of utility-driven simplicity at a great value. It definitely does more with less: it’s a compact knife at only 3.625” when closed with a blade length of 2.875”. That sub-3” blade not only helps pass even the more stringent local knife restrictions, but it also cuts like a bigger knife thanks to its sharp edge spanning the entirety of its modified wharncliffe geometry. The Feist also uses an excellent blade steel in CPM-S35VN, commonly found in high-end knives for its toughness, sharpness, and edge retention. As another welcome addition to a smaller knife, the Feist locks with a frame lock between its matte 6AL4V titanium handles. The backspacer and included pocket clip are also made in matching titanium to bring a clean aesthetic overall backed by durability and light weight. Check It Out 1. Leatherman FREE T4 Purchase Specifications Brand Leatherman Model 832684 Reviews 158 reviews Price $$ Topping the March charts is one of the latest in Leatherman’s popular new FREE series. The FREE T4 brings 12 functions to bear in a 3.6“, 4.3 oz package. Many familiar tools from the FREE P-Series make an appearance, such as a 420HC knife, spring-action scissors, an assortment of drivers, openers, a heavy-duty file, and even a detachable pair of tweezers. You can deploy all the tools one-handed thanks to the FREE’s magnetic architecture and cam lock system, making them buttery smooth to open, locked in place while in use, and as easy to close up when you’re finished with your tasks. And when you’re ready to grab the T4 and go, its included and removable pocket clip gives it a secure spot in your EDC. Check It Out What stood out to you most in this monthly round-up? September 2018 BattlBox “Mission” Review
Each month’s box is themed as a Mission and includes a detailed list of products and their values in all the different level options. This month’s theme is EDC 3.0, and it contains a nice little collection of items that will come in handy in everyday situations. I just want to preface this review by saying literally every item in this month’s box is ultra-portable and would easily fit in your hand. In fact, every item conveniently can be stored in a pouch that is no bigger than a burrito!
Here are the items included in the Basic level ($24.99 cost / $59.33 retail value):
Speedy Strike Knife Sharpener + Ferro Striker – Retail Value $9.95
First up we have this micro carbide sharpener and ferro striker named the Speedy Strike. Made from Micro 100 Super Carbide, this handy little tool can be used to sharpen serrated or flat blades, fish hooks, garden tools – basically anything you might need to keep an edge on. It feels sturdy in the hand and has a smooth but grippy rubberized grip and removable cover.
Lighterbro Classic Black – Retail Value $13.99
Next up we’ve got this interesting item – The Lighterbro. You can turn your plain old Bic lighter into a multi-tool featuring a blade, scissors, screwdriver, and bottle opener. I like that it’s stainless steel, it has a pleasant weight in my hand and doesn’t feel bulky like I expected it to at first. I don’t normally carry a lighter so this is something I’m likely to gift.
Exotac Freekey System – Retail Value $6.49
Next up we have a couple of items from Exotac, a brand I’ve seen in several subscriptions including a past Battlbox. Everything they make seems to be clever and well-constructed, and the Freekey system is no exception. It’s basically an improvement over the classic keyring design. Instead of having to fight against a smooth, strong, rounded piece of metal with your fingernails, the Freekey system is flat and pulling apart the layers is a piece of cake. It is made of several loops, so it’s equally as secure as a classic keyring. If your key doesn’t fit on the larger main ring, there are several smaller rings included that have the same build. Everything was super easy to attach and remove.
Exotac BMQR .380 Magnetic Quick Release Keyring – Retail Value $16.95
The other Exotac item is this magnetic quick release keyring that mimics a .380 bullet. The magnets in the bullet and casing are super strong – I had to keep them a few inches apart just to photograph them. The bullet side comes with the smaller Freekey system ring and looks great attached to the main Freekey system from above.
Battltac Daily Utility Tool – Retail Value $11.95
The final item at the Basic level is this small utility knife tool from Battltac. This is essentially a retractable x-acto blade in a very tiny metal package. It fit easily in my fifth pocket even with a tube of lip balm. Daniel Dabbs, Battlbox CEO, designed this particular item in order to save your expensive EDC blades from everyday cutting tasks like opening boxes or working through annoying plastic packaging. Save those sick stainless blades for cutting rope and wood and meat, and use this little guy to open your next Battlbox or subscription box instead.
In addition to the items included in the Basic box, here are the items included at the Advanced level: ($49.99 cost / $124.27 retail value)
Olight S1 Baton Flashlight with 16340 Battery – Retail Value $44.95
The first item at the Advanced level is this ultra-compact, high-powered LED flashlight from Olight – the S1. As some readers may know, I have a weakness for flashlights, and I can thank the last EDC themed Battlbox for turning me on to Olight. The S1 is about the size of a AA battery or a standard lip balm tube, and despite its small size it has an output of 500 lumens! Standard headlamps output somewhere between 100 and 200, so this is a wildly bright little light. It comes with a pocket clip, which I removed, and a lanyard which I probably won’t use. My only gripe is that it’s not rechargeable, but you can purchase a separate rechargeable 16340 battery.
Exotac EDC Roll – Retail Value $19.99
The other item at the Advanced level is this EDC tool roll from Exotac! This roll is made from heavy-duty nylon and velcro and has one row of stretchy pockets for larger items and a flap with mesh pockets for holding smaller things in place. The stretchy side is perfect for a standard pocketknife, the Speedy Strike, or even a smaller medicine bottle, while the mesh pocket side is ideal for smaller items like keys, lip balm, or an S1 Baton flashlight. There is a large amount of velcro, allowing you to pack a ton of stuff into this roll and still easily secure it. The leather belt strap is a nice touch as well.
In addition to the items included in the Basic and Advanced boxes, here are the items included at the Pro level: ($99.99 cost / $194.26 retail value)
Real Steel G5 Metamorph – Retail Value $69.99
The only item in the Pro box this month is this gorgeous 14C28N stainless steel knife from Real Steel. This knife is so slick: it fits cleanly in the palm, it’s got a bit of a matte finish on the aluminum handles, and has bearings in the hinge making opening and closing a total breeze. To open the blade, there is a thumb push on the bottom, and the locking mechanism is completely hidden within the handle. I really love the sharp look and feel of this blade and it may take the place of my current EDC, the Brous from Battlbox April 2017.
In addition to the items included in the Basic, Advanced and Pro boxes, here are the items included at the ProPlus level: ($149.99 cost / $274.25 value)
CRKT Crossbones and CRKT VIVA Combo – Retail Value $79.99
Finally this month, we have this combo from CRKT featuring the VIVA EDC tool and the Crossbones folding blade. Starting with the VIVA, it’s a basic belt loop hook with a few tools included, but it’s got a nice weight to it compared to some other all-in-one pieces. There is a pry bar at one end, a bottle opener of course, and a mini-wrench built into the body of the tool. Moving on to the Crossbones, this is a really interesting folding blade with a unique body. The blade itself is reminiscent of the Metamorph, but is made from a different steel (AUS 8). The handles have a nice pattern to them which grips the hand well, and the locking mechanism is strong and tight. Honestly, I was a little bit surprised in how similar the two blades included this month are. The main difference is that the Metamorph blade tapers while the Crossbones sweeps upwards to a point.
And just so you can see, here is the Exotac EDC Roll with everything in this box packed in it. Lots of room to spare for items saved from past EDC boxes, or for your personal EDC needs!
Verdict: BattlBox put together another great EDC collection here, I have to say these are probably my favorite Battlboxes to get in the mail. I love how useful every single item is, and it was a great idea to include a tool roll with plenty of space for everything in this box with room to spare. This month’s value tops out at $274.25 which is a little low on the Battlbox spectrum but still well above the $159.24 investment ($149.99 a month plus $9.25 shipping).
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You won’t get this box as a subscriber if you sign up today, but you can buy past boxes in the BattlBox store.
Coupon – Use coupon code MYSUBTEN to save 10% off your first box!
Value Breakdown: At $159.24 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:
Sharpener: $5.78
Lighterbro: $8.12
Freekey: $3.77
.380 Keyring: $9.84
DUT: $6.94
Flashlight: $26.10
Roll: $11.61
Knife 1: $40.64

Note
review of your experiece with the bestech platypus and cricket CEO ?
Certainly: I've been stuck inside so I haven't done any serious outdoors work with these but I've used them around the house enough to have Opinions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Platypus: I think this is probably my new favourite knife I've owned, which isn't saying much but still. Big hulking utility folder with a quirky aesthetic. Sheepsfoot blades have been in fashion ever since CRKT put out the Pilar. I got it for ZAR 800 or about USD 55, which is a reasonable "nice but still budget knife" price.
The Platypus is very well made. Extremely smooth action, it's unassisted but the detent is balanced so you almost always get it open in one shot. Robust D2 steel blade, and came from the factory with a perfect razor edge. I consider D2 to be more stainless than not, so while you need to keep it oiled, it's not like it's going to rust out from under you if you forget for a while.
The scales are very cute, multicoloured stacked G10 fibreglass affair which makes it look much more substantial than it is. That said, it's fairly slim for such a heavy knife, and very smooth though so not the best if you want to use it with gloves.
The blade is big and thick, the blade stock is 3mm wide so even with a fairly tall grind it handles more like a little cleaver than a pocket knife. Longer than most compact pocket knives, so it doesn't pass the 3-inch legal requirement of some areas.
The sheepsfoot blade is really good for tip-cutting and shaving. I did some craft work cutting pages out of notebooks and slicing up shapes from plastic and rubber sheet with it and it feels like an overbuilt craft knife, since you have one long mostly straight edge on the bottom, which feels more natural than the high angle of attack you have to use with a drop point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're not going to be doing any stabbing or holemaking with this, but that's not really the point, and you can still get the tip to dig in to something if you need.
I haven't had to sharpen this yet and it's my first D2 blade, so I'll see how that adventure goes when I get to it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The CRKT CEO: mostly just a pretty face but a perfectly serviceable knife. I got the older thumb-stud model, which is 8cr13 steel and tip-down carry right-side only. For my needs this is perfectly fine, but if you want left-side or a nicer steel, they have the flipper (although I think there's some special run original CEO's in D2 and S35VN. Not available near me, though.) I got this one for ZAR 640, or about USD 42, which is again, pretty reasonable for a pretty but ordinary knife.
This one is more of a mixed bag. The aesthetique is on point, obviously. Very elegant, one of the lightest and most compact knives I've ever had, and I think it's a good option if you like having a basic scout-style penknife but wish it locked and had a pocket clip.
The blade is 1.5mm stock and less than 3 inches. CRKT is a mixed bag from a quality point of view, this one is no exception. The detent was far too stiff to open one-handed and the edge was blunt as hell. Those can both be fixed, but no one likes having to sharpen a brand new knife. Whether this will happen to you seems to be random chance, according to the forums.
Once it's sharpened and I fixed the detent, it is perfectly fine. CRKT's 8cr13 is nothing special but it's not bad., and it's similar to Victorinox's INOX in my opinion: cheap, easy to look after and put an edge on, but it doesn't hold it. Perfect for something you don't use for heavy work and don't want to spend half an hour on sharpening, which again makes this sound like a Swiss Army Knife Plus. So far I've mostly used it to sharpen pencils and punch some holes in boxes so I can put wires through, at which it performs admirably.
The liner lock is sturdy enough and easy to manipulate one handed once I fixed the detent, and the pocket clip is simple and inoffensive. Blade shape is ordinary, although I suppose it has a relatively long slicing belly compared to other similarly thin knives thanks to the completely straight spine.
The thumb stud doesn't get in the way during use, since it sits right up against the handle when unfolded, but it does get in the way of sharpening. At the moment none of my screwdrivers fit that screw, so I just leave the very bottom part unsharpened, but once I have a screwdriver that fits I'd pop it out before sharpening. Since the stud sits inside the frame, you can't really move the stud around if you wanted it on the other side, so you mostly take what you get. With the stud and my detent adjustment, it opens nice and quickly with a little pressure, a dramatic deployment.
The form factor is lovely, very elegant, the one time I went outside since I got it I kept it in my inside jacket pocket, and it just disappears. It's easy to see why this was so popular, it's cheap and it looks good, and it gets the job done well enough to make up for its compromises.
