They will be shown at CES 2024 Promotional materials have appeared on the Internet with photos of Dell and Alienware laptops, and some of them will be equipped with the latest Intel Core Ultra processors. [caption id="attachment_85043" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Intel Core Ultra processors[/caption] This is what laptops with new Intel Core Ultra processors look like. The images show the XPS 13, 14, 16, as well as the Alienware m16 R2 and m18 R2. All new products will receive a 14th generation Intel Core CPU, but we know that this same 14th generation will include both Raptor Lake Refresh and the latest Meteor Lake. But only the latter will bear the names Core Ultra. Also, some laptops will have discrete graphics cards of the GeForce RTX 40 line. There are no other technical details yet, but these are all fairly high-end laptops. They should be announced at CES 2024, like many other laptops based on the new Intel processors.

And so far only in one test Yesterday, the Chinese company Loongson finally released its 3A6000 processor to the market , which in a number of tests is actually not inferior to the Ryzen 3 3100 and Core i3-10100F . It turned out that it can even compete with the Core i5-14600K! True, only at the same frequency. [caption id="attachment_84905" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Core i5-14600K[/caption] Recent tests have shown that in the UnixBench test the new Chinese CPU performs at the level of the Core i3-10100, if the frequency of the latter is lowered to 2.5 GHz, like the 3A6000. And in the Spec CPU 2006 test, the same thing happens when comparing the Chinese new product with the Core i5-14600K! Moreover, in one of the modes the latter is even a little slower. The Chinese quad-core Loongson 3A6000 processor is capable of competing with the Core i5-14600K. This indicates the great potential of the Loongson architecture, but, of course, in practice the frequencies still differ by more than twice. In addition, these are separate tests and sometimes separate modes in these tests, so we still don’t have the full picture. But we can say for sure that buying a Loongson 3A6000 for a home PC in order to overclock it well and reach the performance of modern AMD and Intel CPUs is a bad idea. Apparently, the overclocking potential is either in general or is still quite weak. Regular overclocking allows you to increase the frequency from 2.5 to only 2.63 GHz, and liquid nitrogen allows you to achieve 3 GHz, but here the motherboard BIOS limitation comes into force. So perhaps extreme overclocking is possible to higher frequencies.

And eight small ones While Intel Meteor Lake processors have not yet entered the market, the Arrow Lake CPU line, which is expected next year, has appeared on the Internet. [caption id="attachment_84812" align="aligncenter" width="780"] CPU Arrow Lake-H[/caption] CPU Arrow Lake-H with six large cores appeared on the Internet We are talking about the Arrow Lake-H mobile processor. It has six large and eight small cores. We don't yet know all the details about the Arrow Lake configuration, but such CPUs will have a maximum of eight large and 32 small cores. It is expected that the Arrow Lake-H line will offer up to 6 + 8 configurations, like the specified model, and Arrow Lake-HX processors will have 8 + 16 or 8 + 24 cores. [caption id="attachment_84813" align="aligncenter" width="534"] CPU Arrow Lake-H[/caption] Arrow Lake processors are expected in the second half of next year. Unlike Meteor Lake, which is focused primarily on energy efficiency, Arrow Lake will be more versatile and represented in more segments, including the most senior one.

This is one and a half times faster than the overclocked Xeon W9-3495X The monstrous 96-core Threadripper Pro 7995WX processor continues to tear old records to shreds. As soon as we had time to talk about 1.1 million points in 7zip and 184,000 in Cinebench R23 , the processor immediately reached a completely different height: more than 200,000 points in Cinebench R23! [caption id="attachment_84145" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Threadripper Pro 7995WX[/caption] More precisely, the result was 201,501 points. The Elmor OC team, which set the record, used liquid nitrogen and overclocked the CPU to 6 GHz. [caption id="attachment_84146" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Threadripper Pro 7995WX[/caption] Threadripper Pro 7995WX sets new records At the same time, the processor consumed a monstrous 1.58 kW, however, at one time the Xeon W9-3495X showed a much lower result, consuming almost 1.9 kW. https://youtu.be/CP6vuvOVTcc It is likely that many records will still be achieved with the participation of the Threadripper Pro 7995WX. But whether Intel will be able to release something of the same level in this segment in the coming years is still an open question. The upcoming Xeon Scalable Emerald Rapids generation will not offer a significant increase in the number of cores, nor any completely new architecture.

New ones are clearly just around the corner We've already seen that the Threadripper 7980X and Threadripper Pro 7995WX processors offer incredible performance, but there are a number of new records worth noting. [caption id="attachment_83835" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Threadripper Pro 7995WX[/caption] For example, back in October, at a closed event, AMD itself said that the 96-core Threadripper Pro 7995WX can be overclocked in such a way that it will score more than 184,000 points in Cinebench R23. So far no one has achieved such a result, but there are already first results using liquid nitrogen: 177,050 points. Before the advent of the Threadripper Pro 7995WX, the best result was the record of two 96-core Epyc 9654, which was 147,668 points. Threadripper Pro 7995WX sets a number of new records [caption id="attachment_83837" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Threadripper Pro 7995WX[/caption] In Cinebench R24, the result was 8230 points, while the previous record was held by the Intel Xeon W9-3945X and it was 6159 points. The result in 7zip is even more impressive. If previously Threadripper Pro 5995WX held the title of record holder with a score of almost 514,000 points, then Threadripper Pro 7995WX almost doubled it, scoring almost 1.1 million points.

6-seater cars will begin transporting passengers in central Tokyo in 2026 Honda Motor Company has announced that it plans to launch a self-driving taxi service in Japan along with Cruise and General Motors (GM). The joint venture will be created by the partners in 2024, and the driverless taxi service itself should start operating in 2026. First, driverless taxis will transport passengers in the center of Tokyo, and then beyond. [caption id="attachment_71932" align="aligncenter" width="612"] Self-driving taxis[/caption] To transport passengers, a Cruise Origin car will be used without a driver's seat and steering wheel; the interior of this vehicle can accommodate up to 6 people. At first, the service will be launched with several dozen cars, and then their number will increase to 500. Passengers will be able to order an unmanned taxi using a mobile application and pay for the service there. Honda and General Motors will launch self-driving taxis in Japan [caption id="attachment_71933" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Self-driving taxis[/caption] It is known that Cruise Origin cars have level 4 autonomy, that is, they can move without a driver if a number of conditions are met. According to international standards, there are 5 levels of car autonomy: the first involves only a little automatic assistance to the driver - this could be, for example, an autonomous emergency braking system; Level 5 is a fully self-driving car. In April of this year, a law came into force in Japan allowing the movement of driverless cars with Level 4 autonomy in some cases.

New products are faster than their predecessors The first results of testing Core i5-14600 and Core i3-14100 processors have appeared on the Internet. The first includes six large cores and eight small ones, while the second has only four large ones. The frequencies in the same order are 2.7–5.2 GHz and 3.5–4.7 GHz. [caption id="attachment_71920" align="aligncenter" width="780"] i5-14600[/caption] So far there are results only in Geekbench, but they allow you to understand the difference between the new products and the previous generation. Core i3-14100 without small cores appeared in tests for the first time along with the Core i5-14600 Specifically, in Geekbench, the younger processor scored 2509 and 8881 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively, while the results of the older one were 2785 and 16,110 points. [caption id="attachment_71921" align="aligncenter" width="686"] i5-14600[/caption] Since the results in multi-threaded mode are more important, we note that the result of the Core i5-14600 is higher than that of the Core i5-13600K and close to the Core i5-14600K. The result of the Core i3-14100 is significantly higher than that of the Core i3-13100, but still, the Core i5-13400 remains far ahead.

The rest of the CPUs will be shown at the beginning of 2024 Intel introduced the 14th generation Core processors (Raptor Lake Refresh). As expected, today only older models with an unlocked multiplier were announced. Intel Core i9-14900KKF There were a lot of leaks about these CPUs, so Intel didn’t reveal anything new except the price. The new generation differs minimally from the previous one, except for the Core i7 models, which have four smaller cores compared to their predecessors. Intel Core i9-14900KKF Intel Core i9-14900K/KF, Core i7-14700K/KF, and Core i5-14600K/KF processors are presented. But Intel did not raise prices, which is good, because there were such rumors. However, they were there last year too. So, the characteristics of the new products are as follows: Core i9-14900K/KF – 24 cores (8+16), frequencies 3.2–6.0 GHz, 36 MB L3 cache, TDP 125 W and price 590/565 dollars; Core i7-14700K/KF - 20 cores (8+12), frequencies 3.4–5.6+ GHz, 33 MB L3 cache, TDP 125 W and price $385/$410; Core i5-14600K/KF - 14 cores (6+8), frequencies 3.5–5.3+ GHz, 24 MB L3 cache, TDP 125 W and price 295/320 dollars. To demonstrate the performance gain from the transition to the new generation, Intel, as expected, took the Core i7-14700K because it can demonstrate this gain. The new CPUs will be available for purchase starting tomorrow.

But much slower in multithreaded The first results of testing the Ryzen 3 7440U processor have appeared on the Internet. In this case, this is interesting because the Ryzen 3 7440U belongs to the Phoenix 2 line, unlike other Ryzen 7040Us. [caption id="attachment_65547" align="aligncenter" width="780"] AMD processor[/caption] This APU was presented along with older models back in May but has not yet entered the market. It has four cores with SMT support and iGPU Radeon 740M. At the same time, there are two Zen 4 and two Zen 4C cores, which can be called large and small, respectively, but this division is not at all the same as that of an Intel CPU. First test of AMD processor with large and small cores. [caption id="attachment_65548" align="aligncenter" width="780"] AMD processor[/caption] [caption id="attachment_65549" align="aligncenter" width="780"] AMD processor[/caption] In Geekbench 6, the new processor scores 2323 and 6571 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively. This is quite good, since, in comparison, the Core i3-13100F with four large cores has the same single-threaded performance. In multi-threaded mode, it is significantly higher, but it is worth remembering that we are talking about a desktop CPU, while the Ryzen 3 7440U is a mobile one. True, it was the SolidRun Bedrock R7000 desktop mini-PC that was tested, but with passive cooling. Unfortunately, there is no power consumption data yet, but this should also be a strong point of the Ryzen 3 7440U.

Although the difference is small The results of testing the Core i9-14900K processor in tasks that can load modern multi-core processors have appeared on the Internet. [caption id="attachment_61739" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Ryzen 9 7950X[/caption] In Blender, the new product scores almost 560 points, which is 6% more than the Core i9-13900KS. This is good considering that these are technically identical CPUs. The new product is already 8% ahead of its direct predecessor, the Core i9-13900K. However, the Ryzen 9 7950X is still a little faster. Neither in Blender nor in V-Ray can the new Core i9-14900K outperform the “old” Ryzen 9 7950X In V-Ray, the new Intel flagship showed a result of 27,790 points, ahead of the Core i9-13900KS by 5% and its predecessor by 8%. But here again, the AMD flagship is ahead. Of course, it was clear in advance that Raptor Lake Refresh would be only a very minor update (except for the Core i7, which will get more cores), but now we can verify this not only thanks to the results from Geekbench.

The announcement of new CPUs is expected in October The Intel Core i7-14700KF processor appeared in Geekbench 6, where it showed an excellent result compared to its predecessor. [caption id="attachment_60432" align="aligncenter" width="524"] Core i9-13900K[/caption] The new product scores almost 3,100 points in single-threaded mode and almost 21,200 points in multi-threaded mode. In the second case, this is close to the result of the Core i9-13900KS and higher than the result of the Core i9-13900K, which is unexpected, since the new product has fewer cores and a lower frequency. In comparison with the Core i7-13700K, there is an increase of 20%. However, the secret here is simple: the processor has been overclocked. It operated at 6 GHz versus the native 5.6 GHz. That is, out of the box the Core i7-14700K/KF will offer slightly lower performance, but now it’s clear what can be achieved with minor overclocking. Core i7-14700KF, which is faster than Core i9-13900K [caption id="attachment_60433" align="aligncenter" width="415"] Core i9-13900K[/caption] The new product will have 8 large and 12 small cores, while its predecessor has 8 large and 8 small cores. Core i7 in all variations will be the only processor in the Raptor Lake Refresh line, whose number of cores will increase compared to its predecessor. In other cases, we will only talk about increasing frequencies.

And by the time the CPU is officially released, performance may be even higher One of the first devices based on the Intel Core Ultra 7 165H mobile processor was tested on Geekbench. The result was very good: this Meteor Lake CPU scored approximately the same points as the current flagship Core i9-13900H. [caption id="attachment_60349" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Intel Core Ultra 7 165H[/caption] At the same time, several points should be noted: firstly, testing was carried out in the “Balanced” power mode and not “Maximum performance”, and secondly, by the time of the official release, CPU performance may be higher. Intel Core Ultra 7 165H with a frequency of 5 GHz demonstrates excellent performance in Geekbench [caption id="attachment_60350" align="aligncenter" width="441"] Intel Core Ultra 7 165H[/caption] Now a little about the characteristics. Intel Core Ultra 7 165H - 16-core 22-thread processor. High-performance cores (6) - Redwood Cove, energy-efficient - Crestmon (8 in number). But that's only 14 - where are the other two? The fact is that 14 cores are in the CPU chipset, and two more energy-efficient ones are in the SoC chipset; they will be used for tasks that require minimal computing power. The volume of third-level cache memory is 24 MB, and CPU frequencies are 3.8–5.0 GHz. TDP - from 15 to 28 W. In Geekbench 6.1, performance was 2502 points in the single-threaded test and 12,545 points in the multi-threaded test. For comparison: the performance of the Core i9-13900H is 2450 and 12800 points, respectively.

Frequency reaches 6GHz The Core i9-14900K processor lit up in the CPU-Z test, which confirms its characteristics, and at the same time allows you to compare the new product with its predecessor. [caption id="attachment_51251" align="aligncenter" width="780"] new Intel CPU[/caption] The new CPU will indeed be an almost complete copy of the Core i9-13900K. The same 24 cores, the same amount of cache memory, but the frequency will increase to 6 GHz, that is, by 200 MHz. Not 3%, but as much as 8-10% of the increase in the new Intel CPU. In the benchmark, the CPU scores 978 and 18,118 points in single-threaded and multi-threaded modes, respectively. Thus, the new product is 8-10% faster than its predecessor. This is not bad, considering the almost identical parameters, but you need to understand that in real applications the gain may be less. But relative to the Core i9-12900K, the increase reaches a much more impressive 19% and 59%, depending on the mode. Let us remind you that the Raptor Lake Refresh line is expected in October.
