15 Day Bl Challenge - Part 4

Day 57 - Female/non-binary identifying actor you want to see more of in BL or GL

This is by no means a complete list, but just who comes to mind first. Overall, I just really really want increased representation and diversity for female/nonbinary roles, particularly lead ones.

Yoshi Rinrada

She was only briefly in The Sign but was still one of the most memorable characters in a very charismatic cast. She's one of those people that whenever others blog her photos/videos, I have to stop and properly appreciate out of sheer aesthetic enjoyment. She has a mix of charm, confidence, and sass that would be perfect for a lead role.

Looknam Orntara

Look, I love Saint, but the fact that Idol Factory insists on sidelining this woman as if she isn't both incredibly gorgeous and outrageously funny is a travesty to me. She also has incredible acting chops - the scene in SCOY where she realizes how much Daisy is suffering and she can't hold her emotions back is a goddamn masterclass. I find her more appealing than Becky or Freen, fight me.

Noey Natnicha

Again, not to keep shitting on Saint, since I'm sure GAP was really hard to get made in the first place, but it was obvious a lot of the TeeYuki stuff was cut. At least we had Tee as a reoccurring character, and a start at some butch rep, but it felt like crumbs. Noey doesn't seem to be acting in anything else, but I would love to get her back and give her a proper chance at a romantic role.

Silvy Pavida

She's talented, beautiful, and openly queer. Also she was part of my bisexual awakening. Need more be said? Just give me more of her.

Copter Panuwat

2 Moons was overall rather forgettable for me, but I did really enjoy Copter as Kit. I haven't watched them in much since then, I think they and Kimmon have either by necessity or choice gravitated to scripts that aren't really my jam. But I would love to see Copter get to play a nonbinary character as a lead. We're overdue for diversity in gender expression for QLs.

❣️ My Secret Love - I’m absolutely loving this show!! it’s so hilarious and the perfect proof that you can actually make something out of a seemingly simple bl plot lol. The dynamic between Mek and Kim is super entertaining, also Lee and Park have no business being the most adorable couple I’ve ever seen djkghfd. I love them so much. The setup is nice and it plays with several bl clichés in a very cunning way. Super excited for the rest of the season!! 💜 

👎🏻 To My Star 2 - Never thought I would ever put this as my dislike of the month lol and if you’re following me you’re probably fed up with me constantly ranting about it jkfgdf but yeah. Very disappointed and I don’t see any way to fix this mess in the remaining 2 episodes. Pity.

❗️Thai actor Copter Panuwat came out as non-binary on Twitter and had an interview with TeenVogue. 

❗️The post-apocalyptic Thai BL “Till the World Ends” (starring Art Pakpoom & others) will premiere on September 3rd 2022. 

❗️The upcoming Korean BL “Heesu In Class 2” will start shooting in August and will most likely be released towards the end of the year. It will have a runtime of 40-60 minutes per episode. The main actors have been chosen but not revealed yet. 

❗️The upcoming Thai drama “Remember Me”, starring JaFirst and others has been announced to air on October 9th. It is still unclear whether or not it will be a bl. 

❗️”Our Season” is a 3 episode variety show that features the cast of Semantic Error. It premiered on June 29th on Gagaoolala. 

❗️Fittings for the upcoming Thai BL “Moonlight Chicken” have started. 

❗️Mew Suppasit will star in the upcoming Korean-Thai BL “Love is Like a Cat”. His costars are 2 former kpop idols from the group JUST B. Details have yet to be announced.

“They”

Feat: Monochrome

It's taken me a few years to grasp the specifics of Monochrome's non-binary identity. But! I think I finally have it figured out. Hopefully:

Since they were young, Monochrome Dashielle has always felt that they were neither exclusively female or male, solely comfortable with they/them pronouns. Instead, they are something in-between. Androgynous. Or, more specifically, they are androgyne, a blend of feminine and masculine. Monochrome can even be considered femandrogyne, as someone who feels a bit more feminine than masculine.

In their teen years, an unconfident Monochrome began feeling self-conscious and confused in understanding what was "valid" presentation for a pony of neutral gender.  Briefly mentioning this to Aunt Scootaloo, the young mare immediately called upon her good ol best friend Sweetie Belle for a bit of aid. Sweetie Belle had picked up a thing or two over the years from big sis Rarity on cosmetics and wardrobe, and Scoots was sure she was the perfect available candidate for a bit of experimenting. The three spent time exploring Monochrome's sense of gender expression, listening to how they felt and testing out different looks. After that day, Monochrome discovered the sheer fluidity and freedom in expression, and also that some elegant dresswear and a little artistic eye shadow every once in a while can feel and look pretty dang good.

During the occasional outings Monochrome decides to dress up, their wardrobe presentation leans further towards androgynous and more feminine clothing (which they find more visually and aesthetically pleasing), barring dresses. On other days, tank tops and sleeveless shirts (guns out yo) can feel pretty nice.

Here we just have three examples of dresswear! Outfit 1 is probably one Mo wore during a time visiting Daring Do 's side of the family in Lokai. Outfit 2 may be familiar as something they wore in "Dating Days". Outfit 3 is one they tend to wear during hotter days or work out routines. Tank tends to join Mo during these routines and...may need to have that 'copter tweaked.

Fun fact; Monochrome's canon voice and vocal range would be that of the amazing Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Smooth, deep, and can easily be androgynous in lower, calmer tones while containing lovely feminine tinges.

People don't give Kimmon enough credit. He's one of the pioneers of the Thai BL industry, starting out in 2 Moons, Part-Time, and Love Sick 2. He's a staunch supporter of the LGBTQ community and rights, and a thoughtful, supportive, and protective working partner of 7 years for non-binary actor Copter who has loudly and actively talked about their place and duty to the community because of the privilege they receive from it.

I really appreciate Kimmon. We need more supportive allies like him. 🏳️‍🌈
