New Chapter Every Saturday
You're the best in the meth industry but a new product suddenly pops up. You and your boss, Valeria, must figure out who is making it so you can take back the market. All the while tension is building between the two of you.
A/N: I can't copy paste the header image anymore so now I have to add it in on my phone. Boo.

Your excitement towards the upcoming Friday shriveled up and died the moment you found out you were nothing more than a bet to Corra. Not only that, but everyone you work with was in on the joke. Laughing behind your back at how stupid you are for thinking someone was genuinely showing interest in you. None of these people are your friends and not once have you ever considered them to be, but knowing they're talking about you and laughing at you hurts. It's that unresolved trauma from high school turning you sensitive. You did your best to avoid everybody. Not sure who you could trust. Corra's brother had tried to come up to you to ask a question, but you just stared at him until he left. You sure showed him.
You don't need any of them anyway. You don't need anyone. Nobody in your life has ever benefited you, so you're better off alone. You slink down the empty halls towards the lab. Your anger and embarrassment brews deep within you. The belt loop on your pants snags on a door handle as you pass, and you almost punch a hole in the stupid wooden thing. You storm off and reach the lab. You open the steel door and step inside. Seeing Valeria already waiting, new barrels of pseudoephedrine and sugar sat on the floor by your desk. Her hair is sleeker and neater today and as you approach you catch a waft of something that smells expensive. She's forgone her usual safe turtleneck or simple tank top. Instead choosing to wear a gray button-down shirt with the top buttons undone. It's tucked into her usual cargos and belted.
"What are you so dressed up for?" You mutter. Her attire makes you think of a date. A date which you no longer have. You scowl as you pull on the medical jumpsuit, placing the gasmask on your head.
Valeria stares at you.
"Just felt like wearing something nicer today." She replies. You move towards the barrels and inspect them. When you don't hear Valeria moving or the rustle of fabric you turn to look at her.
"What are you doing?" You frown.
"I'm waiting for you?" Valeria says, brows furrowing in confusion. "What are you waiting for?" She sounds impatient and that doesn't sit well with you. She may be your boss and the head of the operation, but cooking meth is your specialty.
"I'm waiting for you to get dressed in the proper gear, do you think I'm putting on this ugly jumpsuit for fun?" You say harshly.
Valeria leans back, surprised by the bite in your voice. She gets a little stiff, doing that thing where she makes herself seem just a little bigger, crossing her arms over her chest.
"You're smart and an asset so I'm going to pretend you didn't just speak to me that way." She says coldly. Brushing past you to find herself the proper clothes.
"Right." You mutter quietly. "You're here to watch me be an asset and not to make sure I don't mess up."
Valeria pulls the gas mask over her face, and it muffled her words slightly. "You won't mess up." She replies.
"Of course I won't, because if I do, you'll kill me." You meant it as a partial joke. But the room falls into an uncomfortable silence.
"... I wouldn't do that." She says. "You won't mess up because you're in your element, you're the master here."
Valeria's faith in you melts the icy anger around your heart. Only a little bit though.
"Well... even the masters mess up." You murmur. Despite your remark, you do feel more confident. You turn away to get out your notes and jump when Valeria puts a hand on your shoulder. You cringe away at the unexpected touch.
"I know what the common opinion of me is, but I wouldn't kill you for messing up a few times." Valeria says firmly. "If I killed or fired everyone who made a mistake I wouldn't have a cartel."
You turn your head to look at her. Seeing how serious she's taking this. "Right, yeah." You nod.
"I'm serious." Valeria furrows her brows. "You're important here."
You don't quite know what to do with her praise, so you don't acknowledge it or the warm feelings it gives you.
"Okay, we need three cups of Red Phosphorus, and we need to heat it." You say. "Can you pour eight cups of the pseudo into that bowl over there while I do that?"
Valeria promptly opens the barrel and begins scooping the blue liquid into measuring cups.
You and Valeria work together for hours. She's a fast learner and efficient. Usually, you prefer to work alone but it's nice to have her here. Working alongside her makes her feel more like a person. You sigh and lean back as the large container holding everything together slowly pumps the liquid meth through the drip pipes. The last two batches sitting in plastic bags off to the side. Fifty pounds each. Each with different concentrations of sugar.
"This was enlightening." Valeria hums. Turning to face you. The lights reflect off the glass of her gas mask. You huff in amusement.
"Was it?" You reply. "Are you going to fire me because you know how to cook it yourself now?"
"Go over it with me a few more times, then I will." She replies. "How are you feeling now?"
At first you don't understand why she's asking but you catch on quickly. "I'm... disappointed."
You retract your gaze from her to look at your hands. You had meant to say you were fine. Valeria isn't exactly the first person you'd want to talk about your feelings with.
"Disappointed?"
"Yeah." You nod. "I feel silly, but I was actually a little excited for the date." You admit quietly.
"Oh, did you like Corra?" Valeria asks, eyes burning into the side of your head.
"No, I mean, kind of?" You shrug. "I never saw her in that light until she asked me out and I stupidly got carried away with it. Entertained fantasies of us getting married and moving in together and all that."
Valeria scoffs in disbelief. "Because she asked you out?"
You frown at her. "I didn't genuinely believe those things would happen I was just imagining them." You feel a little defensive. Like a silly child with a crush. "I just thought I had a shot at it, at being with someone." You act like it hurts less than it does. Finding a life partner is getting slimmer and slimmer and you're slowly accepting that you might never find one. But that's fine, you said you didn't need anyone.
Valeria regards you.
"Is that what you want?" She asks. She glances at the pipes as crystals begin to from. "To... get married, buy a house, two point five kids?"
A meth lab is an excellent place to have this conversation. With your boss no less. This is exactly where you thought you'd be ten years ago.
"Or just getting a partner that sticks around." You shrug.
"Maybe you're looking in the wrong place for that person." Valeria murmurs.
"What do you mean?" You ask, turning to face her. she speaks like she knows something you don't.
Valeria just shakes her head and moves towards the pipes.
"This is ready to be collected." she says. Carefully pulling the crystals off and into a bag like you showed her. You want her to answer your question, but you let it go and help her. The last bag, batch C is fifty-one point three pounds. ready to be sold off. You and Valeria strip from the PPE and stuff your suits back into the locker. You two walk from the lab, free of the bright lights.
"What are you doing now?" You inquire as you two walk back to her office.
"Paperwork." Valeria says, not sounding too ecstatic about it. "Want to help me?"
You smile. "Not really."

It was no surprise when Emily Flint got sorted into Slytherin, and no surprise when she picked the hardest subjects on the curriculum once her third year came around. But it was a surprise when she went to the Quidditch tryouts and got the Seeker position.
Teddy Lupin would have someone to train with during the holidays now, Reg preferred doing muggle-type activities during his free time, and Victoire didn't like flying. Emily was the only one in the small group of friends who had a strong love for Quidditch, which her father could not understand.
He would understand even less now, Emily thought as she glared at her broken ankle waiting to be healed.
"Bollocks," much like her father, she didn't like swearing unless she was upset, and unfortunately, that was the case. "My career is over..."
"There you are!"
Emily's face heated up at the sound of Leon's voice. However, the whirlwind of feelings that came to her was represented on her face in the form of a scowl. "If you're coming here to tease, you can do so later," she sulked.
The older boy stopped halfway to her, eyes wide. "I wanted to check on you, that was a pretty harsh fall out there—I almost jumped out of my seat to try and catch you."
Emily sank further in her bed, wishing her heartbeat would stop thumping. "I'm fine. You may leave."
Leon frowned a bit, but it was more out of confusion than annoyance. "What's your deal? You caught the snitch and your team won—aren't you proud?"
"No, I'm not proud!" Emily snapped. "I promised Dad I wouldn't be careless while playing, he doesn't want me to play—says your sister and Harry took a lot of injuries from Quidditch and you know how paranoid he is, I promised I'd be careful!"
"You can't control that," Leon shrugged, not matching her panic. "Mel couldn't, and she'd control the weather if she wanted to. You can't promise you'll be safe every second of the game."
"Dad won't let me play now," Emily groaned, not listening to him. "My time in the team is over and I had just gotten the spot! It's not fair, Quidditch is the one thing he hates that I love. It's a huge joke, this is what this is."
"C'mon, your dad's not unreasonable, he's quite the opposite," Leon insisted with a tiny smile. "You got a little excited while playing, but it's just a broken ankle, he knows you can take care of yourself."
"And what if Ellie wants to play Quidditch once she starts next August? Dad won't let her because of what happened to me—I've ruined my siblings's chances."
"Emie, you have to cut yourself some slack," the boy replied, his grey eyes darkening with concern. "Penny says you rarely spend time with friends! And every time I go visit your common room, you're rubbing your nose raw on a book."
Emily stared down at her hands. "Because I want to make my father proud. I want to be perfect so he... so I can show him that all those sacrifices he made when he was my age were all worth it."
"Hey, when your dad was our age, he did all kinds of stuff. Once he stole someone else's hair for a Polyjuice potion and knocked that girl unconscious so she wouldn't show up while Mel was pretending to be her." Leon tried not to, but a chuckle escaped him as he sat next to Emily's bed.  "He wasn't unhappy all the time. You know what he's always telling me?"
Emily's hazel eyes are fixed on the boy's face, expectant and curious. "What?"
"He says that it was thanks to my sister that he loved school, and found real friends. And... I don't know if you know, but he and my sister had a thing when she was my age."
"What!"
"Don't tell him I told you!" Leon blushed. "My point is, he wasn't sad about anything, because his parents and brother had never been mistreated for their beliefs and yet they were always angry and miserable—but he'd been beaten twice, and on both occasions, the pain was nothing because Mel was there for him."
Leon grabbed her hand and squeezed lightly. "He thinks I'm like my sister, and maybe he sees you're just like him. So, he wants me to keep an eye on you. He says every Flint needs a Sultens," he grinned. "I think us Sultens would be nothing without our Flints. You're the sole reason why I didn't end up being a brat."
"Really?" Emily laughed, though still conscious of the way Erick was holding her hand.
"I was always trying to force you to follow my rules," his smile grew. "And you would always leave me there standing. It drove me mad!"
Emily nodded, remembering a bit of it. "Yeah, you were annoying."
"Unlike Teddy and Victoire, you didn't worship me at all," he continued with amusement. "I tried to win you over but I never figured out how to get you to do what I wanted, so I gave up— accepted the world didn't revolve around me, and I became a better friend."
"And then I changed my mind," she mused.
"Yeah well, you didn't hate me, you were just nudging me in the right direction, even as a kid you were always wiser than me." His expression turned affectionate then, poor Emily had to slow down her breathing so she wouldn't faint. "But you're too obsessed with being perfect."
"I can be perfect, it's a matter of hard work!" She argued, momentarily forgetting about her feelings.
"Princess, your own father handed me the task of teaching you how to have fun! Do you know how grave the situation has to be to get that kind of order from Mr Flint, Master of introversion?"
Emily didn't want to be seen as a task, or a kid Leon had to look after. He'd always been the oldest, strongest and smartest, and she felt like a huge fraud, because the only reason she hadn't followed him around since the start, was because she'd realized Leon paid more attention to her that way.
She wondered what had caused her father to crush on Mel Dumbledore—dad wasn't interested in superficial stuff like beauty or money, he'd always said he'd fallen in love with mother because of the way she spoke, 'She's pure magic' he liked saying. She'd been the first person to make him feel interesting and special.
Judging by the things Leon mentioned, her father had been enchanted by the way Mel made his life bearable in school, because of all the good things she'd brought into his life. She'd been an advantage, not a burden.
Emily wanted to be that for Leon. She'd decided he would be the man she'd marry, but for that to happen, boundaries had to be established. The way he would call her 'Princess' wasn't even sweet to her ears, he called her that because Mel teasingly called her father 'Prince'. It was just as platonic, and it made her furious.
Leon Regulus was a good boy, but he was too self-sufficient and only followed his own rules, not even Penny could get him to do her bidding. So far he'd dated plenty of beautiful girls who fawned over him, and even if he'd never been rude, most girls couldn't stand his distant personality, they never lasted more than one or two months with him.
It was easy to lose his interest, his feelings faded quickly once the thrill of the unknown wore out. She'd once overheard his sister talking about Leon's father with Harry.
"Uncle Lu says Sirius used to date girls just to keep himself entertained with something during the times he wasn't doing mischief. That it was fun to him, but once that thrill was over so were his feelings, no girl ever got to make him stay once he'd fully known them."
"But he knew Mily, they were friends," Harry had pointed out. "And he was in love with her his whole life."
Mel took a moment to reply. "I don't know. Sirius was impulsive and kept to himself—Mum was a fun girl but I wouldn't know the reasons why he felt differently about her. He never told me."
If Leon was so much like his father—everyone always said that—then Emily had to be more like her namesake. Otherwise, she'd be overlooked, and taken for granted, and she could not have that.
"I appreciate your efforts to look after me," the girl dropped his hand. "You're right, my dad would want me to have fun—more importantly, he'd want me to have a Mel Dumbledore. But I don't think that's you."
Leon straightened up in his seat. "Why not?"
"Well, it'd be too obvious," Emily rolled her eyes. "Mel's brother being my answer is lazy—and I'm not lazy. Dad wants me to look for my person as he did, so that's what I'll do. Some boys have been trying to ask me out but I keep saying no, maybe I should reconsider."
"What boys?"
"I'll take it from here," Emily smiled even though her guts were twisting in knots, she hoped this would not backfire. "Thank you, you've opened my eyes. I won't sit around in my common room where you'd always been certain to find me. Now you'll have to search the entire castle just to catch a glimpse of me!"
The girl tried her best to sound obnoxious in a credible way because she was young, but Leon knew she wasn't stupid. There was a thin line between being obvious to the point he'd known she was up to something, and sounding like she'd truly been convinced to change her ways.
"It frustrates me when I discover there are limits to my abilities and they don't always reach where I want them to—"
"I think you're okay exactly where you are," the boy mumbled, scratching the back of his neck. His burgundy hair reflected the sunlight coming from the window.
"But I'm missing out! I want to go out on adventures with you, Teddy, and Victoire, and then Ellie once she gets here! I want to date people—and I can't do that if I follow you around like a lost pup, can I?"
"I... guess not," Leon frowned, seemingly confused. "I mean... yeah, you're right."
"I must find my way alone. It'd be silly to rely on you anyway, you graduate in a year and then I'd just fall back in my bad habits. So no, thank you."
She laid back looking pleased. If Leon decided then to really let go, her dream would die right at that moment... but she had to take a risk, it was better to not have him at all than to fall deeper in love, only for him to grow numb to her appeal.
Emily couldn't stand the idea of losing the boy she wanted to be with when he was the perfect fit, so she had to make sure he remained interested long enough until she was the right age to place her offer on the table. And if she played her cards right, he'd be begging her to take him by that time.
"I... I know I can't force you," he wrinkled his nose. "But I'd be useful to have around, you know? I know everyone, I get invited to all the parties and—"
"I'm the best seeker in school," she replied confidently. "I think I can get into any party if I just ask nicely."
"Yeah," Leon agreed, though he was no longer so joyful. "You're right, as usual..."
"Don't worry, I'll come to you if I have doubts about how to break up with someone, or my charms homework, or if I ever feel like joining the duelling club," she teased him. "I'll be around."
Leon's grey eyes got cloudier as he sank into his thoughts, Emily wished she knew Occlumancy. "Your dad will be glad, then... I should leave and... uh... Penny wanted me to help with her transfiguration parchment, so..."
"Go ahead, I won't be lonely," Emily shrugged. "Teddy and Vicky might visit after lunch."
"Yes," he replied, now sounding slightly on edge. "Teddy will want to talk your ears off about the game. I know. See you."
The boy got up and left. The way he walked out with his fists buried in his pockets and that cute pout on his face reminded her so much of the way he'd looked whenever she would defy him, that she felt this had been the right call.
Leon Regulus would soon realize he'd always been in love with her, it was only a matter of time.

Omegaverse chapter 2
Part 1 part 3
Tumblr media
(name) was dumbfounded.
These motherfuckers just came onto his land, into his house and fucked his life up and demanded that he allow them to woo him.
(Name) didn't know what to think honestly but he knew what to say.
"No"
"What?" Mikey and Izana said wide eyed "do you already know who you want to go with?" Izana asked excitedly and Mikey shared similar excitement; both men assuming it's themselves.
"I'm not going with either of you, seriously what would make you guys think after you put me into a stress induced Frenzy and destroyed my home that i would want to go with you two?!" (Name) snapped out, honestly the gall of these alphas!
"Alphas, you all just think you can bust in and act like you run the place without any regard of how it affects other people! This is one of the key reasons why I ran away to begin with! That and being murdered for my vender" (name) seethed out and glaring at the two "let us prove we are worth your time..." Souya spoke out, chest heavy with guilt...he didn't mean to do this to the omega..
He didn't mean to basically take everything this poor man worked so hard to make right from under him.
"And why should I?"
"Because want to prove we are worth your time"
(Name) sat silently before speaking "Not like I truly have an option, you guys probably won't go away anyways"
Mikey and Izana perked up at this and already formulating ways to woo the omega and make the other look bad "now can you guys please go away? I have to clean your mess"
(Name) was obviously upset at the fact that everything he worked to make was ruined and that's when Draken spoke up next "let us omega... It's only right"
Some members of the clan complained but after a glare from their respective leaders they quickly went to work and tidied and fixed up the omegas home with both their physical abilities and magical and (name) would never admit that he was fascinated by the magic they used, like a black whispy must coming from them.
He was almost curious on what it felt like..
The demons pretended like they didn't see the look of awe on the omegas face while they fixed things up, only taking roughly twenty minutes but god did it boost their egos when the pretty little omega looked at them in awe and they had to suppress a laugh when he acted like he didn't care.
He was just so precious!
Once they finished (name) begrudgingly thanked them and basically kicked them out the best his human strength could allow but before the demons left Mikey took the omegas hand and layed a tender kiss on his pulse without breaking eye contact "see you soon darling" as Izana kissed his knuckles " Can't wait to see you again my queen"
(Name) huffed and pulled his hands away and slammed his door shut with a frown before closing his curtains angrily and walked to his now closet nest and began fixing it and grumbling to himself.
"Treating me like I'm some prize to be won.... fucking bullshit...how would they like it huh?!"
Outside the hut the rival tribes stared at one another menacingly, the air frigid and dead.
"May the best demon win..." The clan leaders said to one another before going off in separate directions to set up camps.
They were not letting this omega go.
Morning came and (name) almost forgot about yesterday's events and grabbed his bow and arrow, needing meat for tonight's stew and went out.
Only to see those fuckers from yesterday..
Oh yeah.
Them.
(Name) looked annoyed at the alphas who looked confused at him "where are you going?" Mitsuya asked curiously and eyed his bow and arrow "hunting" (name) said simply and the alphas found they enjoyed an omega who could care for themselves like he did.
He wasn't weak.
But they liked the idea of taking care of him more..
"That's not very omega like is it?" Hanma said teasingly and (name) shot his head towards the golden eyed man with a cold glare "and what exactly is omega like?"
"Letting us hunt for you baby boy"
"Don't call me that you cretin" (name) said disgusted before walking past them, and into the deep woods around the small clearing.
(Name) drew his arrow with precision and shot the rabbit directly in the neck and smiled slightly.
Until the sulfuric smell was far to close him, turning (name) yelped as Mikey's face was basically over his shoulder.
He didn't even hear him!
"Wow, my omega is sure full of surprises! Angry told me how good of a cook you are as well~" he said happily and (name) was confused...who was angry?
"Who is---" "oi back off from our omega!" Izanas voice rang cold and (name) was pulled into someone's chest, a tall man with braids and playful lavender eyes "hello little one~" he said smoothly and chuckled at the omegas startled expression as another with blonde hair and blue streaks leaned beside him with a curious grin.
"My name is Ran~ this is my younger brother Rindou~ we are the Haitani brothers" Ran said smoothly into (name)s ear and (name) flushed from discomfort and tried to get out of the lanky man's grasp.
"Where you going? We just wanna get to know our future mate better" Rindou said teasingly before taking (name)s hand and kissing it.
"Oi back off from our omega!" Nahoya said with angry and the Haitani brothers pulled (name) behind them, the omega taking the moment of the alphas being annoying to go collect his rabbit before a wild animal grabs it.
Pulling out the Arrow from the rabbit (name) ignored the argument behind him, hunting would be cut short today as the angry pharamones most definitely scared away any wild life within a ten kilometer radius.
Walking back, alphas kept trying to help him with everything and it would be sweet if he didn't know their motives behind it all.
The back of his hut held a small skinning shed he created, better to keep the smell of blood and such out of his home after all "hmm what are you doing?" A voice spoke clearly behind him and a tall masked man stood behind him staring down at the rabbit in the omegas hand "skinning it and prepping it" (name) said bluntly before going to complete his task, ignoring the looming demon behind him who watched over his shoulder with great interest.
The Alpha continued following him everywhere, and soon the clan leaders returned from their squabble and watched (name) with interest like a kid seeing a fire breather when he was just doing mundane tasks and doing his best to ignore the stares.
"Do you need help (name)? Mitsuya is really good at sewing and stuff" Souya said awkwardly to the pretty omega, still low-key feeling like shit for putting this on him but hey at least the omega didn't get whisped away with the perverted tenjiku clan, he didn't trust those slimy alphas at all.
(Name) was fixing a quilt, the stitches not great in the slightest "I don't want to inconvenience, it's fine" (name) said trying to focus on the sloppy stitches, not paying attention to the blue haired man glancing to who one would assume was Mitsuya, the lavender man smiling softly and walking over behind (name) and gently taking the others hands in his own "It's like this.." his voice was smooth in (name)s ears as he showed him the proper way, eyes kind as (name) mumbled a soft thank you and continued his work, the other men watching on with seething jealousy at the display.
Mitsuya would be a damn liar if he said he didn't take this opportunity to secretly smell the other, relishing in the sweet aroma the other produced; he could drown happily in the scent honestly. "What do you like to do omega?"
"(Name)."
"Hm?"
"My name is (name), not omega" (name) huffed out and Mitsuya smiled at the others cold look and replied "Takashi" and the omega nodded before returning to his task.
It was strangely thrilling to see the omega do small tasks like this, gave the men a homey feeling the weren't used to at all.
And it was addictive as hell.
"You never answered my question (name)~" Mitsuya said softly, eyeing the omega who sighed defeatedly "before I left I enjoyed reading quite a bit, when traders would visit I would spend the coins i saved for a new book and sometimes the town doctor would let me read his scrolls and books" the look in (name)s eyes, it was like he was far away as he remembered fondly of reading book after book.
"You don't read anymore?" Mitsuya asked genuinely curious and (name) gave a weak smile "male omegas are practically an omen... Going to any towns would be a death wish" he said simply before standing up "it's getting late, goodnight" and with that he was gone, leaving the alphas to stare at his missing presence and the lingering smell of (scent).
"We are getting him every book his heart could desire" Mitsuya said seriously as the demons sat around the large campfire, having told them the omegas hobby.
The men wholeheartedly agreed.
(Name) couldn't sleep, tossing and turning before ultimately giving up.
Stepping outside, he felt the cool air hug him as he say on the tiny porch of his home and looked at the night sky.
Within a week his life had completely spiralled out of his control.
He almost wanted to laugh.
The alphas were tolerable but he knew they had alterior motives.
They always do.
The sky was splattered with stars and radiant colors and (name) couldn't pull himself to look away and felt his worries was away just slightly.
Kakucho watched from a distance, the omegas expression so serene and relaxed... God he wanted to whisk him away but that would lead to a blood bath.
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" He asked once close enough and (name) jumped slightly and Kakucho apologized for startling him.
"Shouldn't you?" (Name) fired back and stared at the scarred man suspiciously and Kakucho showed his hands to show he was in fact not a threat "demons don't exactly need sleep" he said softly and sat beside the omega who watched him suspiciously "i never got the chance to introduce myself... Kakucho"
"(Name)"
"Sorry about Izana, he can be intense sometimes but he is good"
"You guys came with the intent of taking me from my home and turning me into what? A baby maker?" Ouch. That hurt a bit "why should I believe anything you lot say?"
"We wouldn't make you into a baby maker, we wanted to mate you"
"There's a whole process before that ya know" like courting and such.
"Isn't that what we are doing now?"
"Only because Toman came"
He wasn't wrong.
Tenjiku was only going through the courting process because Toman happened to show up.
"I'm sorry" Kakucho said honestly looking at (name) with seriousness that almost startled the omega "your apology is heard but not accepted"
Well it was something other than the omega hissing and such at them.
(Name) shivered slightly in the cold night before standing up "you should go back before your pack misses you" (name) said simply and went back inside, Kakucho almost reaching out to hold him close when he left.
His alpha greatly enjoyed the omegas company and he found himself enjoying it as well.
And he found himself wanting more.

In the last chapter --  «-Enough playing now, you're going to sleep. -B-but ! This wasn't what I asked for....You're really a coward after all...You virgin... » He carried you to his room, putting you on the bed and sitting next to you. «-I'd love to prove you wrong. However, it would be better if you were in a state where you'd be able to recall how good I am. If you want me to fuck you this badly then maybe ask me when you're sober.
Part I - Part II
Part II  -Yeah yeah...Pff..You're no fun Sabo. Things were finally getting interesting ! »
He smiled seeing that you were now calmer. You started to yawn and bury your face in his pillow. He loved to see you getting so comfortable in his room. He really needed a cold shower after your little show.  -Goodnight (Y/N). I'll sleep on the couch. You can get comfortable. -Are you crazyy ? You gonna leave me alone like this ? Let's sleep together~ -Come on (Y/N), you're a big girl. You could sleep alone for one night, would you ? Translation : I don't want to spend the whole night with a semi. And you're dangerously flirty, and I have wanted you for years and now I have to abstain.
-Pleaaaase. You said looking at him with puppy eyes. He rolled his eyes placing a hand in his hair. God.damn.it.
You won again. Like every time. * * *  You opened your eyes hardly next day, feeling something hard against your thigh. You looked at the ceiling
Oh...I am not in my room...Where the fuck am I ?
you turn around only to discover the embodiment of Adonis to your side. A light beam was lighting up Sabo's face. He looked like an angel as his beauty couldn't be that of a human.
Was he always this handsome ?
You didn't know, in fact, you have never had the occasion to wake up in his bed. Wait, in his bed ? This realization came slowly as your head was still foggy from yesterday's consumption.
You looked down, the thing that was pressing against your leg was indeed :
his thing.
You frowned, blushed, pulled away, put a hand on your lips repressing an internal scream, all of this in around three seconds. You then tried to calm down, telling yourself that it was very normal for a man to experience this kind of morning unconviniences, and that Sabo was a man, after all. Even if  you have always seen him as a bestfriend, he was still a man that is capable of physical attraction.
Now that this internal monologue was done with, you felt a bit calmer, but that didn't answer your question. You got out of bed, trying to recall what happened after going in the bar. And it came back. All of it. Without any mercy for your feelings.
You wanted the ground to swallow you whole. Your only wish was to disappear which meant : calling Nami. You headed out of the house, not even having the courage to face your bestfriend.
« Namiiiii -Uh ? What's the matter ? -I fucked up. I fucked up really bad. -Oh yeah ? Tell me about it. -Wait, why do you seem excited ? -O-oh I'm not excited. Come on tell me. What else could you have possibly done ? -I asked Sabo to fuck me. -Wait what ? You could hear Vivi ask Nami about what happened and her answering « She asked Sabo to fuck her ». -Nami ! Don't go on telling everyone about this. I'm on my way. -For starters, Vivi isn't « everyone », she's my girlfriend. And I'm here waiting for you to tell me what happened. -Wait, I'll come at your place. This can't be discussed over the phone. »
You hung up on her. Ten minutes later, you were at her place. Extremely confused. Nami was painting her nails bright red on the bed while Vivi was sitting comfortably on a chair. You let your whole body weight fall on a lounge pug, tourmented.  «-So tell me how you and Sabo ended up fucking. She emphasized the last word in a way that made you almost choke on air.  -We didn't actually. Nami and Vivi both sighed in a synchronized « Ah » of disappointment. -So hmm...I don't remember clearly. I was really drunk-- well that you're aware of and...And Sabo didn't want to leave me alone so we went to his place. Ace was at Thatch's so we were alone. We hugged and he comforted me. Then I started teasing him, and I don't know what I was thinking, but I kissed him, and then I asked him to fuck me. -Wow that escalated quickly. Said Nami as she continued painting her nails.
-Well, I was heartbroken, I needed something, someone, and he was there, and you know Sabo, he's a good guy ! I don't know what's worse, the fact that I asked him to fuck me or the fact that he said no.
-Oh god I'm so so sorry
- Nami please don't make things worse for me.
-No offense, but you're so dense. Sabo has always been into you. Do you want him, or do you not ? I know that going right into a relationship after a breakup is a bad idea. But honestly it's worth giving it a shot. He's a really good guy. Try dating someone nice for once.
-I don't know, he has something unsettling about him. Like « almost too good to be true » you know ? Added Vivi.
-Ohhh~ I see. Honestly, I always thought that he was a bit prude and hella vanilla. I mean, yes, he's my best friend. But he has never talked about girls to me or about sexual stuff. So I just assumed that. I never thought that he'd be packin' like that. You said as you popped a lollipop in your mouth.
-Ah ? Was it really that impressive ? asked Nami, genuinely curious.
-Yeah. On a scale from 0 to doflamingo he's a solid eight point seventy five. (*)
-Oh gosh. I understand why you're so worked up now.
-That's really...precise. Added Vivi, a bit horrified.
(*) [ The dear reader might need this clarification ; Doflamingo was Law's uncle, he sometimes came to pick him up after uni with his luxurious lamborghini. He wore extremely tight pants that left little to the imagination. And he was most known among your clique for having a nine incher. It was a running joke wether to know if Law got his uncle's genes. Needless to say that this joke wasn't to Law's taste. Now back to our adorable Y/N. ]
-So. I really don't know what to do. I am still heartbroken. -And horny. Added the ginger. -Yeah, that too. I'm afraid of ruining our friendship. -Listen dear, said Nami as she was closing the nail polish bottle, if you're not going for it, someone else would. And trust me, that girl Koala is upping her game. She's going to steal him right in front of your eyes, just like this - and she snapped her fingers. -Oh, and then, you can forget about being « best friends ». Said Vivi adding fuel to the fire. -Yeah, once he's gonna start dating, he won't have too much time for you-- and then, that Koala girl, my god, she seems extremely possessive ! -No way, your voice was detached, trying to act is if you weren't worried, Sabo has never dated any girl before.- -Yes but he seems to get along with that girl. And to be honest, she's kinda cute.
-Nami ! Vivi pinched her forearm playfully, pretending to be jealous.
-That hurt ! And don't be jealous, you know that you're my only one~
-Hmm...I prefer that. Vivi laughed. You started caughing reclaiming for their attention.
-Attention please ! We're discussing my dick-appointment here.
-Jesus you're really annoying, (Y/N), just go for it already.
-How much did he pay you to tell me this huh ?
-What ? He didn't pay me ! You're just always getting your heart broken. I'm just trying to be a good friend.
-Say that you are trying to get rid of her~ Jokes Vivi.
-Vivi, don't expose me like this- Nami plays along while laughing.
-I hate you girls ! You say as you throw a pillow on Nami. The ginger starts complaining that you messed her Nail polish, and the whole scene metamorphosed into a pillow fight.
* * *
You spent the whole day with the girls, chit-chatting about boys and girls and playing stupid games. You felt way more comfortable now, less ashamed. However, you were surprised because you didn't get a message from your bestfriend. You wondered wether he was mad at you, it wasn't in his habits.
You decided to message Ace [click for conversation] [ (Y/N) : Heyy amigo is Sabo ok ? Did he tell u smth abt yesterday ? Ace : Ouch, your hurting my feelings, </3 Only talking to me to ask about my brother~ Yea hes okay why tho ? (Y/N) : Ooo kay. He's home ? Ace : He is. Why don't u directly text him ? (Y/N) : Don't tell him I asked. Btw I didn't forget about those 10 bucks you « borrowed » from me. Give it back.] He didn't answer. You sighed and decided to go see Sabo to settle things down. It was the first time that you were embarrassed to see your best friend. You dressed up in a black skirt and t shirt. You didn't usually pay attention to your looks when you went to hang out at Sabo's, but you were really stressed out and what the girls have said about Koala made you scared of losing him. After all, you had some abandonment issues. You had to settle this down once and forever. You arrived at the guy's place, it was an apartment not so far from your own student flat. You knocked on the door and Ace opened : -Ohhh, (Y/N), he whistles, lookin' like a girl today huh ? -What are you implying you dumbass ? Where's Sabo ? -He's in his room with Koala.- -Wait what ? Koala ? What is she doing here ? Ace raised an eyebrow then said amused ; -I don't know, go ask him yourself. -You're useless as usual. -Always so sweet. You on your period or something ? -I didn't forget about my twenty bucks by the way. -I said I'm goin' to pay you back alright ? Now go talk to Sabo. You and Ace were always teasing each other in a brotherly way, but in reality, he really cared for you, it was just your usual way of communication. But it was true that knowing that Koala was in Sabo's room put you in a bad mood. You knocked on the door with a knot in your stomach. Did they start dating ? Was Sabo interested in her ? These ideas were torturing you. But why did you care anyways ? It was none of your business. He could date whoever he wants. You opened the door but there was only Sabo relaxing on his bed, still fully clothed. « - Sabo ?-Oh, (Y/N), what brings you here ? -Why ? Do I need a reason to see my best friend ? He sits on bed looking at you. He doesn't fail to notice your cute outfit, it was different from your usual sweatpants and hoodies, the way it complemented your figure was almost too much for him. Just that sight was driving him insane, but his face didn't betray his emotions, like always, he acted friendly, not an ounce of lust in his dark ebony eyes. You took place next to him. He smelled good, you thought. The same fresh minty smell as last time. Did he always smell this good ? -(Y/N) ?Huh ? Is everything okay ? His voice seemed concerned. He cared for you. And you had those stupid immature and posessive thoughts. Get a grip of yourself, (Y/N), you thought. -Oh yea-- wasn't Koala here ? Ace told me you were with her.
You tried so hard to act like you didn't care, but he knew you like the back of his hand. But still, he played along. -Hmm..Yes. She just left. I was going out as well. He says with a sweet smile, looking at his watch. You couldn't help but make a disappointed face. -But Sabo I wanted to - I'm really sorry (Y/N), let's talk later. He ruffles your hair and you close your eyes as he does so. You felt stressed out. What happened exactly ? You felt intimidated in his presence for the first time. You wanted him to stay and talk this out. It was a bit awkward for you now. You never thought too much. As he was going out of the room you held the fabric of his coat tight in your hand ; -Sabo- -Hum ? Need me to drop you somewhere ? -N-no. You let his sleeve go, realizing what you have just done, I'll stay a bit then go back home. Don't worry about me. -Alright then. See you later ? -Yeah. See ya. ]
You looked at Sabo go away and you followed him shortly after. Meanwhile Ace was sitting on the couch and watching some movies. You went back home and was quite tormented. It wasn't the right time to worry as you had your assignments and studies to deal with. On one hand, you didn't even have the time to think of your ex boyfriend and his cheating but on the other, you felt like you were let down by Sabo. But why ? He didn't do anything. He just found himself a new friend and a potential new girlfriend.
He didn't even talk about her, but why where you so upset by him meeting her ? After all, he had the right to date just like you always did.
A few days have passed and you didn't get the chance to talk to Sabo. Your exams were getting closer and closer and you didn't feel ready.
Usually, Sabo would help you with your assignments but you were too scared to ask. You realized how much you relied on him and how he has been always there for you.
Who were you exactly to him ?
Maybe you took him for granted.
As you were on your bed looking at the ceiling and trying to collect every drop of motivation in your system to study, you heard your phone ring. It was Sabo's ringtone ! ----- Tag list : @vemuabhi @chloe-abbacchio @mwls-garden @soanywaysistartedsimping If you wanna get tagged just ask for it :)

Abominable Part 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: mage!Peter Parker x mage!Reader
Warnings: yandere, obsession, stalking, murders, possible gore in the future chapters, pretty dark story overall.
Words: 1543
Summary: An investigator of the Mage's Association, you are sent to discover the mystery behind a series of murders before more sinister events take place.
P.S. This was inspired by The Garden of Sinners particularly. I loved it dearly when I was a teenager.
To avoid any confusion, the reader is neither good nor bad due to the nature of her profession. Peter is an adult.
____________
Stepping on a platform with a vintage Samsonite briefcase in your hand, you looked at the people standing aside, most of them waiting for other passengers to leave the train. Although you knew the face of a magus who was supposed to meet you, it was hard to recognize him in the crowd, and you stared at all those people in front of you, clenching the briefcase’s handle. You hated waiting.
Of course, Lord Pierce wasn’t too happy with your arrival: the old fool thought he was untouchable even after a series of murders and an unnatural magic activity in Tombra that got the Mage's Association alarmed. You remembered the revulsion in Mr. Stark’s voice when he talked of Alexander. The old aristocracy, Lord Pierce was an outstanding magus who had long abandoned practicing any decent magic and instead preferred to exploit the strength of his numerous successors. While he still had some friends in the Association, Stark hated him greatly and was happy to remind him who was in control.
Naturally, Pierce knew why you came to Tombra, and the conversation between you two didn’t go well. You didn’t hide your intentions: you were the Investigator of the Clock Tower, and your job was to figure out what was happening in that megalopolis where Lord Pierce resided proudly. It meant you were going to be a great disturbance and a possible danger to many aristocratic families under Alexander’s protection.
It wasn’t surprising he chose the most useless assistant to help you find out the truth. His name was Peter Parker, and he was class D+ magus who attended neither Clock Tower nor Atlas Academy. His role was to slow you down, you thought and sighed.
Suddenly, you saw a familiar face when a young man hurried to you, his cheeks red, sweat running down his face: apparently, he was late. You snickered, looking at his formal attire - his black tie was so long as if he stole it from his father.
Once he was close enough, the young man stood tall, at attention, waiting for you to say something as he stared at you with awe and horror.
“Lady Ragna of the Clock Tower,” you named your rank coldly, and your companion nervously bit his lower lip, acting exactly how you expected of him.
“Peter of Tombra! Pleased to make your acquaintance!” He sounded too excited, and his hands were trembling a little, although he tried hiding it.
Gods, what was he good for in a situation like this, unless he possessed some extraordinary powers not stated in his file? Well, now was the time to discover that, you thought as you narrowed your eyes at the young man.
"Your primary magecraft?"
"B-bounded fields and healing!"
Nothing spectacular there, but bounded fields could be of use to you if you would ever be attacked while performing magic.
"Elements?"
"Water and wind!"
This was better: magi controlling more than one element were still rare, and the boy could make a nice apprentice if he were to be send to the Clock Tower. Besides, with Tombra surrounded by a river, a liquid manipulation skill Peter definitely possessed could be valuable, too.
"Magic circuit composition?"
"N-normal?"
"Any familiars?"
"None."
He was clearly feeling like a mouse in front of a snake, his face getting even more red with every second, and you found the situation rather funny.
"Your motto?" You stared him dead in the eye.
For a second Peter looked horrified, his mouth slightly open as if he were to say something, but you heard no sound coming from him. Then, as if struck by lightning, he gibbered with fear, "Live p-proudly?"
Oh boy. He really thought you were being serious when you talked rubbish with a stony face. If anybody was to talk about a personal motto, even the most pretentious magi of the Clock Tower would burst out laughing.
Rolling your eyes skyward, a gleam of deviltry in them, you smirked, "It was a joke. Don't ever use a motto, it's a terrible idea."
"Thank goodness! I thought it's something high magi of Clock Tower have." The next second Peter made a sigh of relief, and then the both of you laughed loudly, making other people on the platform throw glances at you.
Although you realized the young man had much less experience than you, you still felt he would be fun to have around. If he could make your life a little easier, you would accept his help.
Moving away from the platform and soon passing through the station's hall, you went straight to the city streets instead of catching a taxi. Peter hurried after you, still perplexed at your refusal to let him carry your bag - you guessed he expected you to boss him around, and it made you chuckle. What Pierce was doing with young magi here if Peter had such an impression about higher-ups?
"Lady Ragna, I was informed that the cottage where you chose to stay is in the suburbs. Did you decide to change it?" He asked, seeing you walking to a completely different place.
"No, it's the same cottage. If you wonder why we aren't driving there right now, I'd prefer to patrol the streets tonight to get to know the city. We can discuss the details of the job in the meantime."
You walked away fast, not looking at your companion anymore and watching the night city instead: you had never been to Tombra before, but many magi from the Clock Tower were born there, and their talk about the city always made you a little jealous. Born in a small town to a simple human woman who knew nothing of magic, you always wished to know what it was like to grow up in a true magic society like the one in Tombra, a home to many noble families, albeit smaller and less significant than those living in the capital.
The city looked exactly like you imagined it: giant grey buildings stood besides the streets, and while they didn't look particularly pretty, you loved those countless neon signages and bright posters that were shining even in the darkness of the night. The streets were busy with tourists admiring the city, couples walking out of the fancy restaurants and cinemas, and young people, recklessly snooping around some nightclubs and bars, trying to get in despite the security glaring at them and requiring them to show their ID cards while the kids pretended they forgot them. There was also a small marketplace with colorful food trucks and booths, offering both local and international cuisine, and you blended into the crowd immediately, taking some crepes and then buying takoyaki - Peter, following you like a puppy, looked shocked.
"I can't do my job on an empty stomach," you smirked and handed him some takoyaki.
Funny enough, he accepted the second you showed the plastic plate into his hands, eating so hungrily as if he had been starving the whole day.
"Well, now since I feel a bit better, let's talk business," you motioned the young man to follow you, and turned to a narrow alley, leaving the noisy market that was going to be full of people for at least a couple of hours more. "Do you have any idea why I have been sent by the Association?"
Licking his fingers, Peter looked somewhat shyly at you, probably afraid he would say something silly, "From what I understand, the reason is some unnatural magic activity the Association couldn't trace, and the involvement of its user in several murders."
"Correct." Crossing the alley, you scratched the chipped paint from an old building in front of you and looked at your fingers, furrowing your brows. "To be precise, the reason why the Association didn't leave these murders to a human police is the method how these murders were carried on. Whoever did it pretty much sucked the soul out of victims' bodies."
Peter frowned, staying still while you kept examining the concrete wall in front of you, drawing strange symbols that started glowing immediately as you finished them.
"It may sounds funny, but the ritual necessary to prevent the soul of a dead person to come back to Akasha is known only to a couple of magi, and each of them is considered a great danger to the society by the Association. This alone is a threat, but Mr. Stark's other concern is the indefinite nature of magic practiced in Tombra. It is likely that the magus responsible for the deaths is planning something much more sinister, and we can't allow this to happen."
Finding what you were looking for, you nodded to yourself and moved further, Peter walking right beside you with a concerned expression on his face. He was probably surprised you didn't need his guidance, but you spent the last three days memorizing Tombra's map.
"Do you mean that the souls of victims can be combined to become a power source for some... dark ritual or something?" He asked nervously, licking his lips.
You smirked, turning to him and pointing to the wall of the next building that started to glow subtly as you got close, "Exactly, Peter."

🧠
The rest of the conference went by much like the first day did. Both you and Laszlo bought a few books for your collections. An ease had settled over your conversations with the help of Sara and John's presence; you spoke more freely with each other. You tell yourself it is not because he's going soft on you or vice versa, but rather that you have found yourself in this imaginary bubble where you happen to get on well. It's inevitable that it will pop once you’re back at school and Laszlo will revert back to his usual callous state.
Laszlo. It still felt odd to think of him like that, rather than by his title. You couldn't lie, it gave you a sort of thrill. Even in your dreams you had only called him by his honorific. Thankfully you didn't have another dream after Friday. You couldn't escape the feeling that you'd said something incriminating in front of the man in question. So you chose to pretend it didn't happen.
Monday morning came and you headed to the train station. Once again he had secured a private cabin for the journey. This time you came prepared with a book since you had yet to replace your broken phone.
"Thank you again for inviting me to this, I really enjoyed myself. It was really nice of the department to foot my travel expenses, the hotel was really fancy. I may have helped myself to a mini-bottle or two," you joked.
"There is no need to worry about the department's finances; they were not involved."
You pause. He paid for you? Laszlo did say he would take care of the arrangements; but the four-star hotel, the private compartment train tickets, the admission to the conference, and every meal? Shit, that must have been a fortune, hundreds of dollars at least.
You don't know what to say, so you settle for an awkward "oh." A moment passes before you add "I appreciate that, um, I can pay you back. Might take some time but I can."
The professor is flippant in his reply. "There is no need, it was well spent for the research and knowledge acquired." He opens his book signaling the conversation is over.
You lick your lips. Fine then, I'll just consider it payment for emotional suffering and damages of the last eight weeks.
The first few hours of the journey were spent reading one of the new books you picked up at the convention. Occasionally you would peek over the pages at the professor. He was engrossed in his own selection; sometimes he would pause to write down a thought.
Around the seventh hour of your journey you had given up on reading anymore in favor of looking at the fields outside. The silence was comforting.
Laszlo had trouble concentrating on the book in his hand. He saw you as a conundrum. One minute you could be sociable and teasing with your comments, then next you were biting at his throat with your quick wit and fierce ideals. He decides that he wants to know what made you into who you are today. Now is as good a time as any.
His eyes on you cause a tingle up your spine but you ignore it. Laszlo breaks the silence; "may I ask a personal question?"
"You just did," you answer, still peering out of the large window. He huffed once, amused. At his following silence you face him. You raise your eyebrows to signal him to go on with his question. Curiosity grows at the thought of what he intends to ask.
"Twice now you have made implications of a traumatic past," he begins.
Bubble popped.
Interrupting, you snark "is this the part where you psychoanalyze me, doc? Because trust me, I've been through enough of that." You pick at the lint on your jeans.
Laszlo tries to choose his words more carefully the next time he speaks. "What I mean to say is, the first afternoon in the classroom where you defended that student you implied you had been witness to a trauma. You then displayed signs of anger and embarrassment before leaving prematurely. Yesterday you mentioned having entered a psychiatric facility. As an alienist I can't help but find myself curious about your experiences."
You slide your eyes to meet his from across the cabin. Your face is devoid of any emotion. "We all have our demons. Even you can't argue with that."
Your jaw clenches. Everyone had warned you. They all said he would try to worm his way into your head to figure you out. All the reviews, the gossip, everything. It was a big fat 'I told you so'. You give a pitiful laugh at the situation. "You know, everyone told me that you would pull this stunt."
He seems confused by your statement. "And what is that?"
"That you'd get inside my head and try to figure me all out or whatever. You already know I googled you beforehand, what everyone says about your methods. By now I assume you've done a little research yourself. I promise you there is nothing exciting here," you scoff and point to yourself.
"You would be correct in your assumption." You chew at your cheek as he starts. "I do know some of what happened in your past. Yet I also know that society likes to dilute the truth into something either more palatable, more entertaining, for people to consume greedily. What I want to know is what you have faced. How you have not allowed the experience to overcome you so much so that your humanity is erased like the characters I lecture on."
Eyes closing of their own volition you are thrown back in time to that night so many years ago. You didn't talk about it anymore. Bitsy knew of course, but that was the extent.
Laszlo waits. He knows this is likely to push you over the edge if your history with him means anything. Quite frankly, anyone would be tossed to their limit at his interrogation had they gone through what you had. John always told him that he needed to work on his bedside manner; that he had a habit of coming on too strong in his pursuit of learning the intricacies of the human mind. But your earlier comment about being sent to a so-called 'nuthouse' rubbed him the wrong way. It left a bad taste in his mouth. He needed to know. He needed to understand.
Laszlo can imagine the reprimand that he would receive from John and Sara for this. Just as he considers apologizing for his intrusion you open your eyes.
"She was fine. None of us suspected anything was wrong. I came home from having dinner with some… boy, and she had locked herself in the bathroom. She- she must have started over the sink and moved to sit on the side of the tub. She was hunched inside it when I got the door open. I pulled her out. Blood was… everywhere." Your voice is clinical as you explain.
"After, I shut down. So I checked myself into a psych ward a few days later when I couldn't get the feel of her blood off my hands. It's slippery, you know. And it smells. You wouldn't think so but it does." You clear your throat. "I did the therapy, took the meds they prescribed, all the standard treatments. Later I started watching true crime documentaries. I'd heard about exposure therapy so I figured the more I saw the gore, the less the image of my dead roommate would bother me. And it did help. The nightmares stopped after a while, I came back to school. I was better, just not the same.” You had watched the passing landscape as you explained. Turning to face him you speak again. “That's why those pictures didn't bother me. They weren't anything I hadn't seen before."
He contemplates you. The discovery and subsequent loss of your friend in this manner would no doubt cause lingering effects to your psyche. A stain that would forever remind you. "I offer my sincerest condolences. I do not presume to know what that would be like to experience, but I am glad you sought help afterwards. To make the choice to alleviate yourself of your own suffering where possible.”
As he says this he realizes that your anger towards the idea of being enslaved to unconscious impulse makes perfect sense. It explains why you focused so much energy on defending your belief in free will. That you have the power to choose how you carry your joy, your anger, your healing. It reminds him of how he held onto his own guilt and hurt, ignoring how it festered within him for so long. He feels as though he needs to share a piece of himself with you.
“I played piano as a child, quite well too. My mother hoped I would someday make a career of it. I vividly remember playing Mozart’s Concerto for Piano No. 20 in D Minor at a holiday party when I was seven years old. It was my favorite to play.... It requires two hands." You finally look at him. "My father...” He pauses to gather himself.
Now it is the doctor that cannot meet your eyes. As you listen you feel your confusion grow. How could he have been a talented pianist if he only had full use of his left hand? Unless..., the realization dawns on you just as he continues, his words slow.
“My father had two sides. One loving and the other brutal, the two often coexisting. It was something as trivial as putting me to bed, I recall... A game of tug of war. We were laughing…” He inhales a sharp breath. Already you can feel the tears begin to blur your vision. “I don't remember if he was drunk or if I said something that offended him. He must have pulled my arm behind my back.” Laszlo exhales shakily. “In small children, fractures can often affect…” he trails off, unable to finish. You can hear how he barely holds himself together.
Your heart aches for the broken man that sits in front of you. He never let on how much his arm bothered him, at least not within your presence. Suddenly you don’t see him as this rude, insufferable, obsessive man, but instead as someone that spends his life trying to protect himself. He projects his own anger and hurt so that he may, just for a minute, forget about his own demons. He wants to help others even when he feels he cannot bear to help himself.
But unlike you, he has to live with the physical reminder of his past every day of his life.
You stand and move to sit on his right side. Before allowing yourself to think too much of your actions, you place your hand atop his own, curling your fingers around his palm and squeezing delicately. You don’t bother wiping away the tears on your cheeks. “I’m so sorry, Laszlo;” the whisper is barely heard above the sound of the train. A second passes where you fear you have overstepped and offended him by touching the affected limb. When his thumb tightens against the backs of your fingers you know he is not. He holds you in place.
“You asked me how I kept my humanity. How does anyone really? We learn to take what we get and we carry it in a bag. Sometimes you have to drag the damn thing behind you. But eventually the weight gets less and less if you allow yourself to move forward, even if it’s still there with you all the time. I dealt with what happened years ago and it does still haunt me. It’s easier now than it was, but… I- I suppose I’ve learned from you too. Sitting in those lectures and hearing you talk. We can either let it haunt us for the rest of our lives… or we can accept it… and use the memory of our pain to help ourselves and others.”
“I’m not sure the choice is entirely in our hands.” His tone is mournful.
You turn to smile at him through your tears. His own eyes are bloodshot. “I disagree. If it weren’t, if we didn’t have the freedom to choose that, we’d all be murderers.”

as changmin neared the locker room, he heard a bunch of shouts and hoots coming from inside. soon after, a crowd of highschool kids started making their way out of the room, buzzing with energy and excitement. siyeon, who was in the crowd, spotted him and ran towards her favorite uncle.
"uncle changmin!" she shouted, earning a jolt from the clueless guy. when he saw siyeon coming his way, he smiled so wide and opened his arms for her. she jumped into the hug, laughing in happiness.
"that's a lie, you now have all the time in the world to do mom's errands WHICH you can't run away from anymore!"
"okay... maybe but don't think that i'm not dragging you with me to do them!"
you watched changmin and siyeon interact so animatedly from the entrance of the locker room, and you couldn't help but fall even further for the guy who's already stolen your heart. his smile could literally light up the whole world, you truly believed that.
"so i lost to dimples? huh."
"so i lost to dimples? huh."
you turned to meet the owner of the voice. "younghoon i still don't know how to respond to your comments, i love you but also are we really okay?"
your best friend laughed as he slung an arm around your shoulders. "YES we're okaaay it's just funny to see your reactions whenever i make comments about my crush on you!"
"you're sick, you know that? sick in the motherfriking head." you poked his head, younghoon continuing to laugh. "i know, i know."
from his peripheral vision, he saw changmin waving siyeon goodbye and walking towards you. with that, younghoon made it his cue to leave.
"looks like lover boy is coming right this way, so don't feel pressured to come to the lunch! i'll take care of the kids for now, you enjoooy your time." he teased and winked at you. you pretended to gag, mouthing a "what the fuck?" to him as he shrugged and left your side.
once you faced forward, you were met with a very nervous-looking changmin. "congrats y/n! you're the last person i needed to congratulate, i already spoke with younghoon but yea." he said.
"thanks changmin." you gave him a soft smile. he looked extremely anxious and you didn't know what was going through his head, so the both of you just kind of stood there in an awkward silence.
as you were about to end the conversation because where tf was this going to go, changmin cleared his throat. "i know your busy with the team, but can we talk? there's something i actually need to say to you."
"oh, sure! we can talk outside, at least it doesn't smell like chlorine and sweat out there." you commented, trying to lighten the mood. however, changmin didn't respond and just made a beeline towards the entrance of the arena.
you were confused, a little scared even. "what if he didn't want to be friends anymore? what if he was moving away to someplace far? what if he's not actually human? what if-"
"y/n, don't worry! it's nothing of that sort." he chuckled. "holy shit i thought out loud." your face grew beet red, and you stuttered out an apology for how he shouldn't have heard your thoughts.
you two eventually made it outside after an excruciating minute of you fanning the red out of your face and him trying to hold in his laughter at your embarrassment. you found a bench and sat on it, gesturing for him to follow.
as he sat down, he rubbed his hands against his pants, wiping off the nervous sweat that had formed. "okay, y/n i'll need you to listen to me carefully. let me know your thoughts after, alright?" he asked as he turned to face you.
"will do changmin!" you turned to face him too and flashed him an encouraging smile.
changmin was nervous in front of you, but the warmth you exuded from your smile alone was enough to give him the confidence to just think fuck it and tell you what he's been meaning to tell you for a while now.
"y/n the way we met, it was so, how do i put this... out of the blue? i mean, who expects to be punched during work duty and be pushed into the pool for literally standing there?"
you laughed at this, recalling the memory of how messed up your first and second meetings were.
"okay, i admit the second time was partly my fault, but still! it's crazy to tell people 'yea i met them in a haunted house where i was the scarer they punched'! but honestly, it's a much more interesting story than all the other 'how did you meet?' stories out there."
you nodded in agreement.
"when i met you the third time, you as siyeon's coach and me as her uncle, not gonna lie i wasn't the happiest about that. i'm sure you knew that too. but we kept meeting and meeting again under the most unexpected circumstances, and eventually i just thought 'maybe they're meant to be in my life, one way or another.'"
"we started talking more and hanging out, and soon i started looking forward to every time we talked and, well, hung out. i mean, you made even the boring things seem fun! that time i was studying for that dance theory test? all you did was ask the dumbest questions and i was already on the floor laughing my ass off!"
you wanted to protest about how your questions were NOT dumb, but changmin stopped you.
"i'm sorry, yes your questions were not dumb, i was just kidding." he patted your head, smiling affectionately at you. you rolled your eyes, however a smile similar to his soon made its way to your face too.
seeing you look at him with so much love in your eyes made something in his mind click and suddenly, his thoughts have never been clearer.
his heart's never been happier.
he didn't just like you. you meant so much more to him, and he knew you needed to know.
"what i'm trying to say is: home is somewhere i feel happy in, where i feel comforted, where i feel loved. and if being with you makes me feel those things, then y/n you are my home. and i hope you feel the same way, because i love you."
changmin exhaled as if he was holding his breath the entire time. he looked at you expectantly, waiting for your answer.
you, on the other hand, was shocked. just plain shocked, and you didn't know what to do, how to react, or what to even say.
the guy who'd stolen your heart had just admitted that you've stolen his heart too, so how the fuck do you respond to that.
after you had stayed silent for 13, 14, 15 seconds (yes, changmin was counting), he lost all hope. sighing, he looked down at his hands. "i'm sorry for putting this all on you, i knew it was a stupid idea, i'm sorry-"
you cupped changmin's cheeks to stop him from talking. he looked up, meeting your glassy eyes. you slowly neared his face until you were inches apart, and whispered your reply.
"i love you too, dumbass."
you closed the distance, lips meeting his as you kissed him slowly, sweetly. he smiled into the kiss, holding you as if you could disappear between his fingers.
it was a very romantic moment that unfortunately didn't last very long, because shortly after a bird landed on changmin's head causing him to scream, you to scream, and the bird to go number 2 on his head.
but oh well, everything about your relationship was so out of the blue anyways, right?

"What do you think?"
I raised an eyebrow as I poked my head inside the van, glancing around at the cramped space that had stupidly been turned into a living space. There was also, weirdly enough, a computer in the corner which made absolutely no sense.
"I think I have no idea what I'm looking at," I admitted, before looking to an excited Skye beside me. "What is this?"
She bit her lip to contain her grin as she patted the van's door proudly. "This is my new rig."
I almost laughed. "You're kidding."
Her smile lessened. "I'm not."
Now I definitely laughed. "Skye, c'mon, be serious. Whose van is this?"
Her smile disappeared as she clenched her jaw with annoyance. "It's mine. Sorry it isn't fancy enough for you, your majesty."
When I realised she was serious, I lost my smile and looked between the van and her. "Skye, where the hell did you get a van? You can't even drive!"
Clearly holding in her anger, she began to push past me and slide the doors shut. "He said you wouldn't get it," she mumbled to herself, but I heard.
"He?" I questioned with raised eyebrows. "Who the hell is he?"
"Miles," she snapped, stopping moving and looking to me. "Miles is the one who got me the van. He said it was a bad idea to show you and clearly he was right, Y/N. You took one look at it and laughed. He was right."
I smiled tightly, trying not to get worked up at the mention of Skye's new friend. She'd befriended this 'Miles' guy within the past few months and wouldn't stop meeting with him and his friends. He was in the grade above us, but just like her, he'd skip class and do God knows what.
Ever since she'd been hanging around them, she'd been standoffish and distant. She wouldn't contact me as much when she ran away, and she'd been skipping school more often than usual. They were clearly a bad influence on her, but she reassured me she was in control of her own life and knew what she was doing. Being the idiot I am, I fell for her pretty smile and convincing eyes, but this was getting too far now.
"No offence, Skye, but I wouldn't start listening to a guy who can't even make it to class on time," I said to her with a hint of annoyance. "Why do you need a van anyway?"
"Why not?" she countered with her arms crossed. "I thought you'd be happy that I'm finally taking responsibility. Growing up."
My expression softened. "I've never once said that you had to do either of those things."
"You don't need to say it," she mumbled, looking down at her shoes with a frown. "I know you think it. Everyone does."
I stepped forward, resting a hand on her shoulder and finding her eyes with mine. "Where is this coming from? Skye, I have never thought that. All I've ever wanted for you is to be safe and happy. I'm just worried."
She shrugged me off. "Well, now you don't need to be. I've got this."
"You're seventeen, you should be in school studying, not staying in a van," I said tiredly. "You've been missing so much. How are you gonna graduate?"
She avoided my eyes. "That's another thing... I've been thinking and, well, I don't think I want that."
I widened my eyes with disbelief. "What?"
Still avoiding my eyes, she continued, "I don't think I want to graduate."
I was too surprised to find words so quickly. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"How can you not want to graduate?!" I asked suddenly, finding my words. "It's what you do! It's what we all do!"
She met my eyes with apologetic ones. "It's what you do, Y/N. I don't want to be at a place that makes me feel like shit. I can't keep pretending I fit in when I don't."
"This isn't you," I told her sternly. "We were supposed to graduate together. You're not stupid, Skye. I can help you study. You can't just give up."
"I'm not," she said with certainty. "I finally know what I'm doing. That's all."
I squeezed my fists together to contain my frustration. "And what's that?"
"The Rising Tide–"
"For fuck's sake!" I cut her off, before hitting the van door with frustration.
"Miles has taught me a lot!" she defended. "They do a lot of good, Y/N! I just want to be apart of something bigger. Something that can help me help others. And something that can help me find my family. My real family."
I clenched my jaw, knowing I was too late in convincing her otherwise. Whatever Miles and the others had told her about their stupid hacking group had worked – she was dropping out of high school and there was nothing I could do to stop her.
"You're gonna be going to university and we both know I can't afford it," she said gently. "We couldn't stay together forever, Y/N. And my foster family definitely don't care what happens to me. I don't fit in anywhere."
I looked to her with glassy eyes. "You fit in with me. You always have."
She pursed her lips as she stayed quiet.
"I'm sorry I didn't make that clear enough," I added bitterly.
"That's not it and you know it," she muttered, shaking her head. "I have to do this. I have to figure myself out. Alone."
I felt stupid for letting her do everything she did leading up to this point. If I had just tried a little harder, maybe things could have been different.
"You're not alone though, are you?" I asked rhetorically. "You've got your new pals at the Rising Tide. It's their damn fault you're doing all this."
"They're not as bad as you think!"
"You've changed because of them!" I argued back. "They created a barrier between you and I. It's because of them that you've... that you've..."
"What?" she snapped, glaring at me. "That I'm finally thinking for myself?!"
I swallowed the lump in my throat and straightened up. "Forget it, just– forget it. I've got a midterm to study for."
She snickered harshly. "Of course. Don't want me slowing you down."
I stayed quiet and turned around to leave. I couldn't see past my anger as I left her with her stupid van.
Of course, the two of us had been friends for a lot longer than that silly argument, so I was quick to realise how much I actually cared about her and her life, and wanted to apologise for how harsh and unsupportive I sounded.
The next day after school, I decided to head over to her foster family's place to hopefully talk to her. I'd had enough time to think about it and knew I was a lot more levelheaded now that I'd had some space.
I knocked on the front door and waited before an older blonde woman answered. I recognised her as Skye's foster mum, Sally.
"Hi, Mrs Collins," I greeted with a smile. "I'm looking for–”
"Mary doesn't live here anymore," Sally cut me off instantly, surprising me.
I had almost forgotten that Skye's foster family knew her as the name she was given by her orphanage – Mary Sue Poots.
"She doesn't?" I asked with confusion. "But I thought–"
"Goodbye, Miss Y/L/N," Sally interrupted, before slamming the door in my face.
I blinked with confusion before turning around and walking down the steps. It had been a while since I last visited Skye at home. In fact, she made sure I never visited her at home. I guess now I knew why. But then where the hell was she living?
As I walked around the neighbourhood trying to think about where Skye could be, I saw a familiar van parked up on the side of the street and put the pieces together.
Guiltily, I approached the van and sucked up a deep breath before knocking on the side. It didn't take long for the door to slide open and reveal Skye herself.
"Hey," I said quietly, noticing her surprised expression. "Can we talk?"
She licked her lips nervously and nodded, before moving to the side to let me in. I climbed inside and watched as she shut the door before settling on the seat in front of me. I looked around and realised the little details I hadn't noticed yesterday. The little things that made this place Skye's and nobody else's.
"I'd offer you a drink, but I don't have any," she joked to lighten the mood, and I couldn't help but crack a small smile.
I breathed out before meeting her eyes. "Skye, I'm really sorry about yesterday. I shouldn't have reacted like that. If I had known that this was your home, I–"
"You didn't know," she said, shaking her head with embarrassment. "I didn't want you to know. It's my fault."
I pursed my lips, watching as she looked away with pink cheeks. It hurt me to know that she was embarrassed when I didn't care about any of this, I just cared about her.
"I want you to know that I respect your decision to join the Rising Tide," I said gently, making her look up. "If it's what you want, you should go for it."
"It is," she said with certainty.
I chewed on the inside of my mouth before asking, "Is there no way you can finish high school though? Graduate with me?"
She shook her head. "I don't want to, Y/N."
"But that's the bare minimum," I pleaded. "Hacking isn't a lifestyle. You need to work, too, and I can promise you that most places won't look to hire a high school dropout."
She leaned back in her seat and shrugged nervously. "Miles isn't graduating either. And he's got some friends who haven't graduated. They're all doing fine."
I looked down and pinched the bridge of my nose to contain my frustration. I promised myself I wouldn't argue with her, but the mention of her other friends was like a trigger.
"What now?" she asked with annoyance, realising I was annoyed. "You clearly have something to say about them."
"It doesn't matter," I said, biting my tongue.
"Sure it doesn't," she played along.
"It doesn't," I agreed.
"Yeah, and the Hulk isn't bright green," she said sarcastically.
I looked up and glared at her. She stared back challengingly, practically daring me to speak. So, I did.
"Your new hacker friends are the reason you're making these choices," I told her straight. "They're the reason you're making a huge mistake. The reason you're dropping out. And for what? So you can hack like them?"
She rolled her eyes. "I know you look down on us, but we're more than that."
"Skye, I don't give a shit about them!" I shouted without meaning to. "I only care about you!"
"Then stop talking crap about my friends!" she returned angrily.
"Why do you care about them so much?!"
"They gave me a place to stay when I had nowhere! They made me feel like I belonged!"
I frowned, anger replacing with hurt. "I always offered you a place to stay. I only ever wanted you to be safe. You never needed to be different with me. You belonged. Always."
She swallowed hard and looked away from me ashamedly. "Well it doesn't matter anymore. I'm leaving."
I breathed out deeply. "School? Our town? Leaving what?"
"All of it," she said quietly. "I don't expect you to understand."
I looked down to my fumbling hands, a tear slipping from my eye. I had never felt so angry at someone before in my life. She was treating me like I was a stranger, as if I wasn't somebody who knew her inside out. She was treating me like she treated everyone else except her new friends. And I couldn't deal with it anymore.
"Fine," I said, before moving to open the door. I jumped out her van and didn't spare her a glance as I said, "Have fun with the rest of your life. Sorry I didn't care enough."
She didn't say anything and I didn't expect her to. With a broken heart and headache, I left and didn't bother turning back.
"What do you mean she's run away?"
"I'm sorry, Y/N," Mr Lock said apologetically. "Her foster family got the note this morning. They're doing what they can to find her. She always turns up, you know that."
I knew her family didn't care if she was gone or not, so I knew Skye definitely wouldn't be found. Unlike usual, Skye hadn't contacted me before leaving, so something told me she wouldn't be turning up.
Our argument was over a week ago and I hadn't seen her since. It had been eating away at me the way we'd left things, but I couldn't find it in myself to face her. I had no idea what to say anyway. And I wasn't sure when she was planning on leaving, so I didn't think it was important right now. Clearly, I was wrong.
"I just thought you should know," Mr Lock said with a nod. "The police will come by soon to get a statement from you."
As usual. Except this time, I actually had no idea where she was.
I nodded, my mouth going dry. "Thank you... can I go now?"
He nodded hesitantly. "Of course."
I left his office and headed straight outside behind the bleachers where nobody could hear or see me. The first thing I did was try to ring Skye, but there was no answer and no way to leave a voicemail. I tried several times, hoping she'd pick up, but she didn't. And that's when I remembered the burner phone.
Immediately pulling it out, I turned it on and saw the message from her appear on my screen. I was quick to open it, my heart racing like it did every time she ran away. I knew she wasn't coming back this time though.
Hey, Y/N. I know you probably hate me, but I felt like I owed you this. I said I was leaving and I have. I can't tell you where. And I'm not good at goodbyes. I've had too many of them and I couldn't bring myself to say it to you. I'm sorry I pushed you away. I never wanted to, but I guess some things are inevitable, huh? I've managed to do it all my life, this isn't any different. I'm just sorry if I hurt you in the process. Anyway, this is pretty long and I don't even know if you read it, but yeah. I'm sorry. I wish things could have been different.
The text ended there and I found myself rereading it to myself over and over, her words imprinted in my mind. I knew we'd argued and exchanged hurtful words, but I never in a million years thought she'd leave without saying goodbye. I thought I meant more to her than this. But no. I was just another foster family she ran away from. And I wasn't so sure I'd see her again.

Six of Crows re-read
(i also did this for the shadow and bone trilogy so read that if you want to)
spoiler alert obiously
i'm SO EXCITED FOR THIS this is my comfort book (with crooked kingdom of course)
JOOST HI
oo fun fact this was my first grishaverse book and i read it with no context whatsoever except that the mc is an emo boy and morally grey
so IMAGINE my pure confusion when JOOST appeared
i was like ?????? weird take on morally grey character but ok
joost trying to figure out how to flirt with a girl is a mood
anyone wanna teach us how to???
i kinda wanna skip this part so i can see the crows..
but i won't don't worry
(won't I?
"I think Yuri may be quarantined"
aaaand?
so are we you are not special
i feel like it's very important for me to mention that i read this book in spanish first
and then i got into the fandom and i was like who the fuck is the wraith? i only know El Espectro
Heartender who??? ooo you mean Cardio
Tidemakers? nope, i only know Maremotores
for real i was so confused i had to re-read it in english (not that i mind tho)
Tumblr media
say whatever you want about the spanish version but we have to agree that this design is pretty af
another one yay: "Retvenko was a Squaller" vs. "Retvenk era un Impulsor"
(should i also say that in my pfd english version the book is 294 pages long and in my pdf spanish version its 532????) (i think it's because in the english one the speces are way less like the lines are so close together wtf
i've decided that i'm bored so i'll be skiping this chapter
anya is super badass tho
skdgfalsdgfliaysvfascvhjl yesssssss inej
Kaz Brekker didn't need a reason.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
KAZ
INEJ
I MISSED THEM
omg now i can picture amita and freddy SDJGKASKGLASG THIS IS AMAZING
we interrupt our regularly scheduled program to watch the shadow and bone trailer once again to hear freddy's beautiful voice
ok moving on!
now hear me out i'm giving you all permission to make fun of kaz for this one: Dirtyhands = Manos Sucias
hello i am Kaz Manos Sucias. nice to meet you!
AAAAA
AAAAAAAAAA
JESPER FAHEY
JESPER LOVE HI
SJDGHFKAHSGDLAJSDFSJ,AHFLHDSGF
I MISSED HIM OMG
OMG NOW I CAN PICTURE HIM AS KIT
can you tell jesper is one of my favourite characters?
i really love the fact that kaz is pissed about the murder of that ambassador ONLY because he can´t figure out how it happen
he´s such a nerd
i can't believe one of the firts things we hear jesper say is threathen to kill someone by writing "forgive me" with bullets
AND HE CALLS HIS GUNS "BABIES" OMG
picture saying hi baby and wylan thinkin he's talking to him but actually jesper's talking to one of his guns
Jesper rolled his eyes. "It's about sending a message. What's the point of a dead guy with forg written on his chest?."
"Compromise," Kaz said. "I'm sorry does the trick and uses fewer bullets."
ooo thank god we have kaz to come up with creative solutions /j /s
honestly i love how they talk about kaz's cane like it's the scariest weapon ever (which it kind of is)
nothing will ever disappoint me more than finding out that in english their gang name is "the Dregs". like i don't even know for sure what that means
in spanish is "Los Indeseables" (the undesirables?) which sounds a lot more badass
no hate tho i like the dregs
but i was confused af bc i expected it to be sometihng like "the undesirables" or"the unwanted" or whatever
and it said "the dregs"
which in the translator means something like shit or something
anways moving on:
If he'd (kaz) ever been a little boy
i love how lowkey all the crows think he was just born exactly like he is now
imagine a baby kaz all dressed in black and threatening people
cute
"No mourners," Jesper said as he tossed his rifle to Rotty
"No funerals," the rest of the Dregs murmured in reply. Among them, it passed for "good luck".
YES
YESSS
i wonder what wylan's doing right now :))
i can't wait for the next book where he has a pov
the first time i read this book i literally looked at the title of every chapter to see if he ever got one (i was disappointed to say the least :((((
Besides, she was the Wraith - the only law that applied to her was gravity, and some days she defied that, too.
ma'am
marry me please
i'm gonna cry so hard once the show is out and we get to see inej omg
me simp
That Kaz had chosen Jesper to be one of his seconds was no surprise. Twitchy as Jepser was, with or without his revolvers, he was at his best in a fight, and she knew he'd do anything for Kaz.
idk why but i just love it every time kaz implies or shows that he cares or trusts jesper
it makes me soft
But every one of Inej's senses told her that was not how this was going to play out. Her father would have said the shadows were about their business tonight. Something bad was going to happen here.
underrated saying from Inej's father right there
"I'm a business man," he told her."No more, no less"
"You're a thief, Kaz."
"Isn't that what I just said?"
i-
i see no lies here
not to be annoying but i hc jesper as adhd (i mean is pretty much as canon as wylan's dyslexia) so i'm gonna write here every time i see evidence :)
jesper with adhd part 1: impulsivity
Jesper snorted. "Stomach, spine. What's next, spleen?"
"Shut it" Oomen snarled. The rules of parley dictated that only the lieutenants could speak once negotiations had begun. Jesper mouthed "sorry" and elaboratedly pantomimed locking his lips shut.
he know he couldn't speak but couldn't stop himself from making a comment (i relate way too much to that lmao)
hoestly poor jesper he had to watch hid friend get shot and kaz do nothing about it
i would've been mad too
"I like it when men beg," she said. "But this isn't the time for it"
KAHGFAHLGSFGASFLGSAFS
this is one of the best quotes in the book by far
YASSS KAZ POV
Kaz could have tol Jesper that he knew he wasn't dirty, reminded him that he'd trusted him eough to make him his only real second in a fight that could have gone badly wrong tonight.
cute
but kaz is petty af
he didn't even have a reason not to tell jesper that!
i love that kaz knows inej is following him but doesn't say anything because he wants to wait until she's ready
i LOVE the scene where kaz in in the van eck mantion /srs
idk why but it's so good
And, of course, there was the mystery of Van Eck's son.
wonder what that could be!!! /s
He grinned at her (...)
"Hmm." she said noncommittally, pretending to examine one of her knives, determined to ignore that grin.
KANEJ YESS
HE'S BASICALLY SHOWERING IN FRONT OF HER OMG
this is so funny poor inej is getting flustered
"And I'll need Wylan waiting at the Crow Club tomorrow night."
YES WYLAN OMG
One minute he made her blush and the next he made her want to commit murder
happens to the best of us :/
"Please, my darling Inej. treasure of my heart won't you do me the honor of acquiring me a new hat?"
if kaz doesn't say this on the show we riot
agreed?
it's so amazing how nina found a way to use her powers to get money instead of having to like steal and murder like the rest in the gang
NINA'S POV YESSS HIII
nina and inej omg
their friendship is just perfect
POOR MATTHIAS HE HAS TO FIGHT THE WOLVES
i would straight up cry
Matthias was dreaming again. Dreaming of her
i'm gonna cry damn it
this is the enemies-to-lovers we all needed
jesper has adhd part 2:
"Jesper was supposed to wait until three bells." said the pale boy
"It is three bells, Kaz." replied a small girl (...)
"Since when is Jesper punctual?" the boy complained with a glance at his watch
the time blindness come one
(btw i love the fact that kaz plans around jesper's time blindness instead of like threatening him to be on time)
i really love how every one feels the need to take the time to say/think that the masks are ugly
its so unnecessary lmao
yessss inej is a badass that kills monster we stan
and matthias is lowkey impressed lmao
as he should
"Thank you, Jesper," said Nina
"You're very welcome, gorgeous. See, Kaz? That's how the civilised folk do"
THESE TWO OMG
JESPER IS THE LOML
INEJ OMG LOOK:
She stepped aside as if she's known he was coming, languidly hooking her heel behind his ankle. Matthias let out a loud grunt as he landed on the stones
(...) "Clumsy, this one," the bronze girl said impassively.
i-
that's what happen when you underestimate her bitch
AAAAAAA
PEOPLE
PEOPLE
TIME TO FREAK OUT
WYLAN IS HERE
AND HE'S DOODLING STOP IT'S SO CUTE
ok jesper has adhd part 3 i think:
"Just how crazy is he?" asked Jesper, fingers drumming on the pearl handles of his revolvers.
ok first of all: stimming
second of all: hyperactivity
i rest my case
ok 2 or 3 things here
"I believe you know Nina," Brekker continued. "The lovely girl freeing you is Inej. (...) and this is Wylan, the best demolitions expert in the Barrel"
"Raske is better," Inej said
The boy looked up, ruddy gold hair flopping in his eyes, and spoke for the first time. "He's not better. He's reckless"
"He knows his trade"
"So do I"
ok 1: kaz calling inej lovely omg kanej
2: YES WYLAN STANDING UP FOR HIMSELF
2.5: kaz calling him the best cute af
3: honestly why do people think wylan is like an innocent soft boy or whatever. he's in a room full of murderers and thieves and the first thing he does is correct them and stand up for himself
like i wish i could do that
i would be crying like a bitch
AAAAAAAA
"Meet Wylan Van Eck"
KHDSGFALSGFIASGFAL
HI WYLAN BABY
YESSS JESPER'S POV NOW
I'M SO HAPPY also look at this it's the first thing in his pov
Jesper stared at Wylan
do i sense some wesper?????
ok everyone is being so mean to him right now
they are aclling him useless and an idiot and other shit
poor boy honestly he had to deal with this + taking part of a heist he is definetly not ready for + he has to hide the fact that he can't write or read
it so distrubing that kaz is literally the nicest one to wylan right now
"See that? Hidden depths." (...)"He's good enough at demo, and he's got a fine hand for sketching, thanks to all those pricey tutors."
(...)
"There you have it," Kaz said to Jesper. "Marketable skills. Wylan is watching you, Helvar"
GET READY
ARE Y'ALL READY?
OK THEN:
"Scheming face," Jesper whispered to Inej.
She nodded. "Definetly."
THEIR FRIENDSHIP OMG
AND THIS QUOTE
I NEED IT ON THE SHOW THEY BETTER GIVE IT TO US
"Who's Mark" damn wylan (but pretty good comeback to jesper tho)
"What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?
"Knife to the throat?" asked Inej.
"Gun to the back?" said Jesper.
"Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina.
"You're all horrible," said Matthias.
tag yourself i'm jesper
KJSFGAL kaz just told wylan to tell him everything he know about his dad's company
and he said he doesn't know and kaz was like "and you never looked trough his documents????
AND THEN HE GOT SAD AND SAID HE HADN'T (and kaz believed him this is sad)
AND NOW JESPER CALLED HIIM USELESS
ok you know i love you jes but if you keep this up
idk i can't do anything you're a sharpshooter
but stiiiiiil
LMAO MATTHIAS ACTUALLY THOUGHT HE COULD BEAT KAZ
nice try
demjin
*insert spongebob voice* demjin
WE'RE GONNA TAKE A MOMENT NOW TO APPRECIATE INEJ GAHFA
BECAUSE KAZ DOESN'T
The heart is an arrow. It demands aim to land true.
*ugly crying*
Many boys will bring you flowers. But some day you'll meet a boy who will learn your favourite flower, your favourite song, your favourite sweet. And even if he is too poor to give you any of them, it won't matter because he will have taken the time to know you as no one else does. Only that boy earns your heart.
*uglier crying*
TANTE HELLEN IF YOU DON'T GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE
SOMEONE PLEASE STAB HER FOR ME
jesper has adhd part ?? (i have dyscalculia you can't expect me to remember the number):
That sound - the swift, shocking report of gunfire - called the scattered, irascible, permanently seeking part of his mind into focus like nothing else.
do i really need to explain this?
ok just in case.. an adhd brain doesn't actually have a deficit of attention(the name just sucks) it's problem with controling that attention. the brain is always looking for new sources of dopamine which is why it shifts its focus so much
i love that jes thinks of matthias as "tha giant"
like sir
have you seen yourself?
you're tall af
HE GOT SHOT
WHY DID I FORGET JESPER GETS SHOT IN THE LEG HERE
"Close your eyes!"
"You can't kiss me from down there, Wylan"
"Just do it!"
i love the energy BUT NOW IT'S NOT THE TIME JES
YESS WYLAN SHOW THEM THEY WERE WRONG CALLING YOU USELESS
inej just stabed some guy int the d
good for her!
KAZ YESSSS HI
AWWW SHE'S WORRIED HE DOESN'T HAVE HIS CANE
KANEJ FOR LIFE
oh no wylan got shot too???? (just barely but stilllll por baby)
my Wraith omggg
ok 3 things about this:
Without another word, he tipped Oomen into the sea.
"No!" Wylan shouted, leaning over the railing, his face pale, stunned eyes tracking Oomen in the waves. (...)
Jesper set his hand on Wylan's shoulder. "Let it go."
"It's not right-"
"Wylan," Jesper said, giving him a little shake."Maybe your tutors didn't cover this lesson, but you do not argue with a man covered in blook and a knife up his sleeve"
1. wesper yasssss
2. wylan just argued with a mant hat had just tacken the eye out of someone. he literally called him out for being an asshole. like damn wylan is brave af i love him
3. do you think seeing kaz trow the guy out of the boat reminded wylan of when the same thing happened to him???? this makes me sad
he's brave and a good person and i just-
"Man with a knife, remember?" he said over his shoulder.
"Man with a gun!" Jesper called after him
this had no right being so funny
AND THEN KAZ GAVE HIM THE MIDDLE FINGER STOP I CAN'T
nina is the biggest kanej shiper no one can tell me i'm wrong
unrelated but if jesper had gone to the Little Palace and had studied there with nina they 100% would've had a crush on Zoya and bonded over it
like you can't tell me those two bisexual disaster wouldn't be absolutely in love with Zoya
jesper has adhd part ??:
Jesper scrubbed the back of his neck, touched his hands to his gunds, returned to his neck. He always seemed to be in motions
hyperactivity right there
and restlessness
"Do you know the best way to find Grisha who don't want to be found?" (...)
"Seems to be if they don't want to be found, you should just let them be" (jesper says this)
this conversation must be so stressful to him omg
LMAO JESPER CUT MATTHIAS HAIR THIS IS SO FUNNY
AND HE SHAVED HIM
ok you all know i love all of them but they can be sooo stupid
like wylan wrote no names on the drawing and he's excuse is that he doesn't know fjerdan?
AND THAT'S NOT EVEN TRUE he literally said he learned school fjerdan which means he should know how to write it too (we know why he can't but the tohers don't)
and even then like the excuse doesn't make any sense. why would having the original name be usefull if no one can fucking read it????
the worst part tho? NO ONE QUESTIONED HIM
THEY WERE LIKE "yup makes sense" AND WENT ON WITH THEIR DAY
i wondered how they didn't figure wylan's secret sooner but now i now
it's because theya re idiots
"I'm just doing my job. Stop glaring at me"
wylan baby let's not make the gigant mad
Jesper knocked his head against the hull and cast his eyes heavenward. "Fine. But if Pekka Rollins kills us all, I'm going to get Wylan's ghost to teach my ghost how to play the flute just so that I can annoy the hell out of your ghost."
Brekker's lips quirked. "I'll just hire Matthias ghost to kick your ghost's ass."
"My ghost won't associate with your ghost," Matthias said primply, and then wondered if the sea air was rotting his brain.
i had to put this here i don't want to get murdered by the fandom
jesper, inej and nina have the BEST friendship
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE JES AND INEJ TOGETHER ON NETFLIX
"I know some people don't understand, but Kaz told me ... he said it was my choice, that he wouldn't be the one to mark me again."
i love this because it happen when they had just met
he did it because he understands her trauma and he respects her not because he loves her (i doubt he did at the time)
Kaz had been impressed with the sketches. (...)
"Just learn to take a compliment. Kaz doesn't hand them out often."
I'M SO PROUD OF WYLAN
and yess kaz only compliments wylan (and inej but that's sarcastic so it doesn't count) because he's a proud dad
"And you don't belong here, either."
"I beg your pardon, merchiling?"
"We don't need a sharpshooter for Kaz's plan, so what's your job - other than stalking around making everyone angsty?"
He shrugged. "Kaz trusts me."
Wylan snorted and picked up his pen. "Sure about that?"
DAMN WYLAN DESTROYED HIM
also
"If you aren't born with every advantage, you learn to take your chances."
"I wasn't-" Wylan left off and set down his pen. (...)
aww cute neurodivergent boyfriends bonding
Wylan had turned back to his work, his disappointment obvious. For some reason, Jesper felt disappointed, too.
ajgflasjgfjagslfiuusgflgdfsgdflasdgfsd
wesper
aww jes checks on inej every morning and every night i love him
"Thank you for keeping me in this world when fate seemed determined to drag me to the next. I owe you a life debt."
Nina blushed deeply. "I was teasing, Inej"
LJFGALKGFALGA another cute friendship right there
(and i can see why people ship them romantically)
STOP INEJ AND JES ARE BONDING SO MUCH (page 127 so i can go back and read it lmao)
Van Eck writes to Wylan every week, and Wylan doesn't even open the letters
"They just said the same thing again and again: If you're reading this, the you know how much I wish to have you home. Or I pray that you read these words and think of all you've left behind."
should i kill him? anyone want to join me?
Inej bumped her shoulder against his."Then at least we're both the same kind of stupid." (...)
"You're too good for him, you know?"
"I know. So are you"
jes and her bonding over their stupid crush on a white boy
Because I've been looking for an excuse to talk to you for two days.
jfsfdajdhmgkfutdjrgsg ok i can't blame them for having a crush on him anymore
this chapter is full of kanej i love it
"What do you want, then"
You, Inej. You forever.
jksdgfoagsdfgsdgfklasgdflaghsldfgksdgfkahgsdfghjlkf
kaz's backstory makes me sad
"When we get our money, you can burn kruge to keep you warm," said Kaz. (...)
"I´m gonna pay someone to burn my kruge for me."
Kaz fell into step beside him. "Why don't you pay someone else to pay someone to burn your kruge for you? That's what big players do."
"You know what the really big bosses do? They pay someone to pay someone ...". Their voices trailed off as they tomped ahead, and Matthias and the others followed.
JES AND KAZ HAVE THE BEST CONVERSATIONS
i can't believe we get to see nina and matthias meet and their whole backstory in less than a month omg
"It's not natural for women to fight."
"It's not natural for someone to be as stupid as he is tall, and yet there you stand."
QUEEN
YOU TELL HIM
oh no the dead grisha
this part breaks my heart every time
"Do you have a different name for killing when you wear a uniform to do it?"
.....i'm just gonna leave this quote right here
anyways acab
stop nina tried to kill the survivor so they wouldn't suffer but she couldn't do it
and jesper did it for her without hesitation i wanna cry
and inej didn't want to do it either i want to hug them
"Because our crime is existing. Our crime is what we are"
..........
i'm gonna leave this here again
do with it what you will
"Don't mock what you don't understand."
"My mockery offends you? My people would welcome you laughter in place of this barbarity"
i- this conversation is so important
AAAAA JES AND WY ARE A GREAT TEAM I LOVE THEM
WYLAN TROWS BOMBS TOGIVE JESPER TIME TO GET READY TO SHOOT
INEJ AND KAZ ARE A GREAT TEAM TOO
THEY LITERALLY DID THE SCENE LIKE IN THE AVENGERS (but without the shield WHICH MAKES IT BETTER)
Jesper shouldered his rifle. "Wylan earned his keep."
Wylan gave a little jump at the sound of his name. "I did?"
YES BABY YOU DID GREAT
kaz getting self-conscious for his hair is pure comedy
but nina how can you say that have you see his hair on the show???? it's perfect
"Remeber our friend Mark?"
HELP I CAN'T
"Any other impossible feats you'd like us to accomplish?"
The bearest smile flikered over Kaz's lips. "I'll make you a list."
once again jesper and kaz being besties
unrelated but nikolai and jesper would love each other
the amount of sass they have between them it's unparalleled
"Mmm," Inej murmured, taking a sip from her mug. "Maybe you're just not enough."
DAMN
ma'am marry me please
kaz fainted damn poor boy
unrelated unce again but this is so much betetr than shadow and bone
like you can tell leigh improved so much
her characters are better and their arcs are better developed
the writing itself it's better
or maybe i'm just biased because i love soc so much but i think she definetly improved
INEJ IS TRYING TO GIVE HIM SPACE EVEN WHEN SHE'S TRAPPED AND LOCKED ON THE WAGON
I JUST - THEY KNOW EACH OTHER SO MUCH
Though he'd trusted her with his life countless times, it felt much more frightening to trust her with his shame.
Inej had once offered to teach him how to fall. "The trick is not getting knocked down," he'd told her with a laugh. "No, Kaz," she's said, "the trick is in getting back up"
inej is smart af
Kaz was usually unshakeable during a job, but now he was on edge, and Jesper didn't know why. Part of him wanted to ask, though he knew that was the stupid part, the hopeful farmboy who picked the worst possible person to care about, who searched for signs in things that he knew deep down meant nothing - when kaz chose him for a job, when Kaz played along with one of his jokes. He could have kicked himself. He's finally seen the infamous Kaz Brekker without a stich of clothing, and he'd been too worried about ending up on a pike to pay proper attention.
ok i got a couple of things to say about this part
first of all it makes me so sad that jes cares so much for someone who dosn't deserve him. because no hate to kaz but they would never work as a couple and kaz already treats him like shit most of the time
i think this part shows who a lot about who jesper really is. a boy that grew up having to hide parts of himself, who thinks he's worth nothing but it's smart and capable, who's loyal and brave and caring but doesn't even know it himself. he's someone who feels he doesn't deserve good things and thinks he's not good enough, and that's why he unds up in all the wrong places with the wrong people. he left uni bc he fell in with the gangs, because he didn't think he was smart enough or even prepared to be in studying in the university. jesper is constantly hiding behind a mask or running from things because he's scared of not being enough
an kaz is everything jes in a way wishes he could be. kaz is secure in himself (at least on the outside), he's stable, he's smart, he's "unshakeable". and most of all, he doesn't care about others (we know that's not true but that's how he presents himself)
and that's the thing that causes jesper all his problems. because he's insecure because he thinks he's not good enough for the poeple or things he cares about. and he's always trying to do what's best for his loved ones: he went to the ice court to pay his debt for his father, he follows kaz everywhere beacause he cares about him, he offered to read to wylan (knowing it wouldn't be easy for him to be still that long).
and yeah it often doesn't work out becuase he's messy and he has problems but he tries. and he hates that. he hates that he cares so much about people because at the end of the day, that's what makes him feel like he's not good enough
one more thing and i'm done i promise
unpopular opinion but i love that leigh made jesper have a crush on kaz. 1 beacuse it's refreshing to see someone not get otgether with his first crush. and 2 because i love that it shows that we sometimes get attached to people that are not good for us, but that we can learn to move on. jesper ended with wylan who respects him and values him, unlike kaz
ok i'm sorry that was probably all bs
oo one more thing, jesper definetly has rsd (rejection sensitive disphoria), which is something most poeple with adhd have
"My father used to take me everywhere with him"
this is so sad. bc they probably had a good relationship when he was little. and then they figured he coudln't read and now his father treats him like shit
it's even worse than if he haf been horrible from the beginning because wylan knows he can be a good father. and so he thinks it's his fault and he deserves to be treated like that. i hate van eck
"You're cuter when you're smart"
(...)
"Definitely cuter when you're smart"
wesper yesssss
i love them so much
ok but why do people think jesper is stupid. like the boy just made a bunch of criminals pass out by mixing some chemicals
and he was going to the university at like 15
AAAAND NOW THEY KNOW HE'S A FABRIKATOR
amazing plot twist
also:
Wylan coughed. Flirting with him might actually be more fun that annoying him, but it was a close call.
oooo come on jesper we all know you just love getitng him to blush
and you love him
who said that? definitely not me, nope
awwww jesper misses being around animals that's cute
imagine him coming home to wylan one day with a puppy because he just couldn't resist
cute
Better terrible truths than kind lies
just leaving here more of inej's wisdom
ok this may be a reach but jesper has adhd part ???
Yellow Protocol? Red Protocol? He couldn't remember which was which. (...)
"The alarm was Yellow Protocol, a sector disturbance."
Jesper pushed at his temples. "I don't remember what that means"
a bad working memory? sounds familiar
kaz loves puzzles
it's canon
"I love puzzles. Trickery is just my native tongue."
this part where wylan and jesper see the banner made with grisha's kefta kills me every time
I would have worn purple, Jesper thought, if I'd joined the Second Army. (...) He'd beenwilling, even eager to risk capture and execution as a thief and hired gun. Why was it worse to think about being hunted as a Grisha?
this makes me want to cry so much
another thing super sad: the fact that since his father is Kaelish and had some supersititons towards grisha, jesper grew up wondering if his own father was scared of him. he had to hide his powers and he was almost taught to be afraid of them
"Is it safe to leave them, you know-"
"Alive? I'm not big on killing unconscious men."
"We could wake them up"
WYLAN
NO
damn the boy needs therapy
it's amazing how nothing went like they planned
not a single thing
PEOPLE GET READY
ARE YOU READY?
NEITHER AM I BUT WHO CARES
"What do you like?"
"Music. Numbers. Equations. They are not like words. They...they don't get mixed up."
ok dude the clues are right there he's basically saying it
"If only you could talk to girls in equations."
There was a long silence, and then, eyes trained on the notch they'd created in the link, Wylan said, "Just girls?"
Jesper restrained a grin. "No. Not just girls." It really was a shame they were all probably going to die tonight.
wylan really said a straight man?? couldn't be me
this is the definition of bi panic "jesper restrained a grin" bitch we saw that
btw i love the slow burn
like they hint something here but they don't actually start liking each other until much later and they don't get together until almost the end of ck
i also love that the fact that they both like guys is like out in the open now. bc i'm not a fan of when queer characters have a crush and there's the whole thing of "are they queer too or not?"
like they both know htey are queer. but they don't get together right away bc they have to start liking each other before. they don't get together bc they are the only queer mlm characters
matthias fake betrayal killed me
i tought it was real
I have been made to protect you. Only in death will I be kept fom this oath.
this is just-
also foreshadowing?
YAYY KUWEI HI
There was no part of him that was not broken, that had not healed wrong, and there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken.
She's laughed, and if he could have bottled the sound and got drunk on it every night, he would have. It terrified him.
if i ever have a s/o and they don't tell me this at least once i don't want it
He needed to tell her... what? That she was lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved. That he was twisted, crooked, wrong, but not so broken that he couldn't pull himslef together into some smeblance of a man for her
THIS
THIS IS LOVE RIGHT THERE
they are the only straight couple that matters
everyone else go home
Wylan had scratches all over his cheeks and neck. He was beaming. Inej grabbed his hands and sqeezed.
so cute omg
"You can explain why our illustrious Shu scientist looks like one of Wylan's school pals along the way"
KAZ
i mean it's true but you didn't have to say it
KAZ IS SMILING OMG
EVERYONE FREAK OUT WITH ME
HE'S "grinning like and idiot" STOP I LOVE HIM
"We are all someone's mosnter, Nina"
"I will have you without armour, Kaz Brekker. Or I will not have you at all"
this part breaks my heart and i love it
"Stay," she oanted. Tears leaked from her eyes. "Stay till the end"
"And after," he said. "And always."
i just- helnik is perfect
AWWW JESPER MISSES WYLAN
my daily dosis of wesper :)
ok but in like 2 pages jesper tought of wylan like 10 times bc he's sad wy isn't with him
Jesper scanned the empty deck. He's assumed Wylan would come up to see them off. (...)
Jesper knew he was being selfish and stupid, but some petty part of him wondered if Wylan had deliberately kept away from him on the journey back. Maybe now that the job was complete and he was on his way to his share of the haul, Wylan was done slumming with criminals.
*charles boyle's insinuating voice* and why do you care so much???
btw YOU ARE WRONG. HE'S LITERALLY GOING OUT OF HIS WAY TO BE WITH YOU EVEN THOUGH HE CAN'T SPEAK
this scene where we find out the truth about wylan hurts so much but it's one of my favourites idk why
I LOVE THAT EVERYONE IS AS MAD AS I AM ABOUT THE LETTERS NOW
"Your're a fool," Jesper snarled. "He smarter than most of us put together, and he deserves a better father than you."
YES TELL HIM
the fact that wylan just heard him say that omg
"Deserved" amended Van Eck. He blew the whislte twice.
SOMEONE BETTER GRAB ME BEFORE I KILL HIM MYSLEF
THAT IDIOT
I HATE HIM SO MUCH
I'M GONNA CRY CAN SOMEONE KILL HIM FOR ME
Jesper screamed in rage and raised his guns.
YES EXACLTY WHAT I MEANT
JUST KILL HIM RIGHT NOW
"I'm not big on bludding, am I Inej?"
"Not as a rule"
Van Eck's lip curled. "And why is that?"
"Because he'd rather cheat," said the boy who was not Kuwei Yul-Bo in perfect, unaccented Kerch.
THIS WAS PERFECT
THE BEST WAY TO REVEAL THAT
(...), and Jesper flinched
baby he recognized wylan's voice
The Shu boy held out a hand. "Pay up, Kaz"
BITCH THIS IS AMAZING
THIS BOY MADE A BET WITH A CRIMINAL THAT HIS OWN FATHER WAS GOING TO TRY TO KILL HIM
AND HE WON THE BET
A nearly perfect replica of Kuwei Yul-Bo stood before them, but he had Wylan's voice, his mannerisms, and - though Kaz could see the fear and hurt in his golden eyes - Wylan's surprising courage, too.
i love it when they compliment him
my boy deserves all the compliments ever
AND KAZ IS PROUD OF HIS SON WE ALL KNOW THIS
Wylan cuold draw a perfectt elevation. He's made a drill that could cut throu Grisha glass from parts of a gate and scavenged bits of jewellery. So what if he couldn't read
this is taking me to some real places
i may cry you've been warned
WYLAN DIDN'T CARE THAT HE MAY BE STUCKED LOOKING LIKE KUWEI
this is making me cry
"A fool would have been waiting to be smashed to bits on that ship. And as for "traitor", you've called me worse in the last few minutes alone."
EXACTLY
YOU TELL HIM WYLAN
Instead, in that moment of threat, when he should have thought only of the fight, he looked at Inej.
BABY
i would've done the same tho she's pretty
amita is sooo pretty i'm gonna die when the show comes out
Jesper was staring at Wylan, his eyes roving over the black hair, the golden eyes. "Why?" he said at last. "Why would you do this?"
nothing to say here except: wesper
You... how many times was it you standing beside me on the deck at night when I tought it was Kuwei?"
"Every time."
i want to cry so bad
"Why does it matter?"
"I don't know!" Jesper said angrily. "Maybe I liked your stupid face."
a very staright and platonic thing to say of course
i know jes we all liked his stupid face
"Jesper made a mistake," said Wylan. "A stupid mistake, but he didn't set out to betray anyone."
YES WYLAN DEFEND YOUR BOYFRIEND
And maybe he'd kept him in the dark about Wyllan because he wanted to punish him a little
even kaz know they like each other come on
Jesper sat with elbows on knees, head in hands. Wylan deside him wearing th face of a stranger.
wylan give him a hug fro me please
he needs it
"Scheming face," murmured Jesper.
"Definitely," agreed Wylan.
i miss inej already
And I'm going to get my girl. Inej could never be his, not really, but he would find a way to give her the freedom he´d promised her so long ago.
i'm ugly crying and so what?
and now we're done....
i want to read this book again omg this is unhealthy

Fruits Basket - Vol 23
It's the final banquet babyyyy

(i hate how blurry that picture is but my camera just wouldn't fucking focus)(also yeah i colored in the speech bubbles, they were kinda confusing without context and didn't have anything to do with this specific frame)
So everyone's gathered in the main Sohma house, and no one really knows what's going on. They have no idea what to expect. Hiro notes that the grown-ups are "the ones who can't sit still today". Some miscellaneous stuff happens but I'm not sure if it's worth talking about? After the miscellaneous stuff, it is announced that Akito is ready for everyone to see, and out she steps in a kimono (I bet it's red; she'd look great in red, I think) and asks where Shigure is, because he apparently dipped out. Ritsu is in complete awe, does Akito partake in the same hobby he does? No, Ritsu, this is who she is.
There's a brief flashback to the previous book, where Shigure gave her something, and said "I guess you could call it a farewell present." Akito did not take kindly to that at all, and lashed out, accusing him of being the first to abandon her. He asks where she got that idea, he meant that she's finally becoming her own person, rather than the person her father wanted her to be, and his gift was something to commemorate that. Welcome in the new Akito, and all that.
Back to the present, Akito explains that the rest of the Juunishi were able to become their true selves, beyond the curse, and so she decided to as well. She tries to apologize, but she can't-- she knows that won't make up for anything that she did, at all.
It goes back to that memory with Shigure (this chapter is just a series of flashbacks and flashpresents) and he teases her, saying that he didn't know he was so important to her, and Akito insists that wasn't the case, that he was the one that she was most afraid of, the one that strayed the furtherest from her, bond or not. He says he had to keep his cool, be nonchalant, because otherwise he'd explode (ka-blooey). He says that he's childish, and doesn't like getting hurt, he hates losing, and he can't stand sharing things. This causes Akito to basically go Ó///Ò in realization, and he confirms that realization (the realization being that he likes her as well, in case you didn't catch it. It kinda took me a second on first reading, and I'm not exactly explaining this the best), and says that if Akito wants to reject him, now's the time, that if she comes to him again, it'll become a Thing. They'll become a Thing.
Back to the meeting, Akito says that she still wants to live with the Sohma family, because there are still things she feels she needs to do. She still is, at the end of the day, the head of the family, it's her duty (probably). She plans on talking to Ren, which I imagine will go well. After the meeting (I think, I don't think it's before, though timey wimey stuff is difficult), Akito is with Shigure, and he's asking if she wants him to stay at the main Sohma house, and she asks if he's angry about it. The vibe I get from him is "yesn't", honestly, but hey if they're happy, I guess it's fine.
Next chapter!
So there are two exposition characters (I'm sorry but that's really all they are) at school, and one of them sees Kyo. She gets excited, maybe she can go talk to him, and the other thinks he's waiting for Tohru, his girlfriend, to finish up with her tests. The first girl goes, "Whaaa?? When did that happen??", and the second says that it happened shortly after Tohru came back from the hospital. The first girl's hopes and dreams are apparently destroyed, I guess she liked Kyo.
It pans back to Tohru, now finished with her test, and the teacher, Mayu, wishing her a good summer vacation, it'll be her last. She also asks if something happened in the Sohma family, because a certain He seemed a little happier when she saw him yesterday. Tohru took "he" to mean Kyo and Yuki, and was basically like "yeah I guess so". Mayu played it off, yeah yeah those two that's definitely who she meant yeah totally see you next school term byeeee.
At the house (Shigure's house), Kyo, Yuki, and Tohru are talking about the meeting, and how it felt like it came out of nowhere. They were surprised that Tohru already knew about Akito, but she had to pretend she didn't for Akito's privacy (you don't just out people, that's rude). She asks if it was that much of a shock, and Yuki says he's mostly dumbfounded, though there has been a lot going on lately, a lot to think about. Kyo says he feels weird about it, simply because now he knows he's been violent with a woman all this time, but also says something about if Akito was a man, Kyo would be in trouble if there was another guy who liked Tohru. I'm not really sure where he got that idea, but Yuki thought it was pretty funny. It made Tohru realize that the air between Kyo and Yuki had cooled off significantly, and they seemed to be more at ease with each other than they ever had before (i mean in the beginning yuki would sneeze and kyo would be like "and i took that personally", so yeah they've changed a lot). She asked Kyo what had caused that change, and he told her that Yuki beat the crap out of him, and knocked some screws loose, but it was okay. They needed to be loosened.
Later, it seems that Kyo and Tohru went to Kazuma's house, where Kazuma said "I have no regrets. At this point, I'm prepared for death at any time.", because he's happy, y'know? But Tohru and (that other guy whose name completely escapes me wtf) protest at that, saying that you can't say things like that, it's not true! The other whispers to Kazuma that he can't die yet, because when they get married and have kids, he'll be a grandparent, which he seems to like the idea of. He tells Tohru that he eagerly awaits that time, but since Tohru didn't overhear it, she just awkwardly agrees that she also can't wait. (Kyo kinda caught on though)
Izusu comes in, says, "This is stupid, by the way", then walks out before anyone can respond. Tohru follows after her, and Kyo asks what Izusu was saying. Kazuma says that a lot has happened recently, and not everyone is going through the same thing.
Going with Tohru, she finds Izusu in another room, saying that she doesn't get it, how can he (Kyo, presumably) act like nothing's wrong, after all that's happened, and how Tohru can do the same, after she got so hurt?! Those kinds of hurt don't go away easily. Izusu continues, and says that if she had to choose to forgive Akito or not, she wouldn't, because she can't. She doesn't want Akito to apologize, and she can't help but feel like she's doing something wrong, because she can't make herself accept everything and move on. Tohru reassures her that there's nothing wrong with her, she didn't do anything wrong. Izusu wonders if her demeanor will turn Haru away, if it will disappoint him. Tohru says that there's no way that Haru could hate her.
The scene changes to Akito, who is talking to that one old lady who pops up every now and then, but I've never seen her name, who says that Akito went to see Ren again, but heard that she wasn't able to really talk to her. She says it would be faster to chase her out of the house, but it's also possible that Akito complicated things by staying at the house. She continues, saying how it must be nice being young, and being able to change your life so easily. She notes that she was born with the Sohma family, and raised with them, and has lived at the house for sixty years, she couldn't change her life now. Akito says that no one can change every thing, and no one would be asking her to. Maybe all she needs is a helping hand. In the end, the maid simply walks away, but y'know, not everyone wants to change, or feels like they can, it's fine.
In the next chapter, it seems like it's the date with Tohru and Kyo that Uotani and Hanajima decided to tag along with. Kyo is thinking back to that moment when he tore off his bracelet, and how afterward, Tohru picked up all the beads. She put them in a little bowl in her room, next to the picture of her mom. In the moment, he could only watch as she did it, and in all honesty he wouldn't have minded if she had tossed them into a fire, but it also occurred to him that he might regret not having them. As he watched Tohru pick up the beads, he thought of it like she was "protecting both the me of now and the me of the future". Alternatively, and this one is a bit spoopy, she was gathering the memories of the people over the (many, many, many) years that had worn that bracelet. Either way, he realized that loving someone isn't just about loving the person as they currently are, but as they were, and as they will be.
That's what he thinks anyway.
I mentioned the date but I didn't talk about it at all. They went to a zoo, Uotani got excited about seeing elephants, and they went to a place with cats, and the cats did not care either way about Kyo. It was neat. By the end of the day, Tohru went off to use the bathroom, leaving Kyo with Hanajima and Uotani. This is when Hanajima asks Kyo if he's going to take Tohru away with him. She knew the time would come, eventually, when she, Uotani, and Tohru, would part ways, but it still hurts to think about. Uotani says that, despite how they might act, they do like Kyo, even if they think he's a bit of a dumbass (Uotani's words, btw), and it's because they both think he's a good guy. He just has to take care of Tohru, because she's like family to them, so he'd best not fuck up.
When Tohru comes back, Kyo says there's a place that he wants to take Tohru before going home. Can we go see what Yuki's up to first? Okay yeah we're going to do that now, we'll get back to Tohru and Kyo, don't worry.
So Yuki's at Kakeru's place, and it seems that they're talking about their college plans. Apparently Yuki's going to a college pretty far away from where they're currently at, but if they have subjects that he's interested in, it's fine. (I don't think it's ever said what exactly those subjects are. Like, what's his major? Do I really care? Eh. But it's still nice to know. Same thing for Kakeru, what is he doing?) When Yuki says he'll be living on his own, Kakeru asks if he can manage, he doesn't want to go for a visit and see an emaciated Yuki (living on like,, partially-cooked instant ramen noodles, and several scattered half-empty water bottles in a nest of laundry and schoolwork). Yuki is more optimistic, saying he's going to learn by doing (so that means those cups of instant ramen will be completely cooked). Apparently he told Machi about it and she's fine with it, though she would not be fine if she heard Kakeru saying that anyone is "climbing the stairway to adulthood" which honestly I wouldn't be fine with that either, that just sounds stupid.
Komaki asks how Yuki's going to get the money to live somewhere, and Yuki says that he considered asking his parents, but in the end he asked Ayame to help. Ayame was overjoyed to help, and went nuts to find a place that would suit Yuki's needs (Or be the foundation of his "empire", as he phrased it).
When asked about college, Kakeru said he'd go, not because he really wants to, but mostly because people keep telling him to. He was planning on taking over Komaki's family business (they run a laundry service), but he supposes he'll go anyway.
Later, Machi shows up with a package of meat, which Komaki was very excited about. Kakeru trotted out his "stairway to adulthood" line on Machi, and Machi punched him in the face along with the meat, she somehow balanced the meat on her fist to smash into Kakeru's face, much to Komaki's distress (over the meat, not Kakeru).
Anyway, let's go back to Tohru and Kyo.
Kyo took Tohru to the graveyard, and they're standing at the Honda's family tombstone(memorial? thingie? idk), and he says that after he graduates, he wants to leave, because he's spent his whole life up until pretty recently avoiding life, and not letting himself get involved in things. But now that he's a normal person, he wants to live in the world as a normal person, with Tohru, and because of all of this, he wants to go outside of this place that he's been his whole life. Tohru asks where he's planning to go, and he says that Kazuma knows someone with a dojo, but it's really far from where they presently live. He says he's planning on going there first, attending the dojo while he works, and then one day, he'll inherit Kazuma's dojo, using the experience from the first dojo. He hesitates on asking Tohru to break away from everything and everyone she's known to go off with him, but Tohru agrees, and says she wants to go with him, as soon as possible.
There is one thing that Tohru wants to tell Kyo, and it's that she's sure that her mom never hated him. Even if she did say that she would never forgive him, Tohru is confident that she didn't say it out of hate, she knows it. She will go along with Kyo, even if it hurts to leave everyone else, because it would hurt her more to be apart from him (🥺). To end this section, Kyo says that he'll keep the promise he made to Kyoko about Tohru, all that while back, and he'll keep it for his whole life.
(don't mind me i'm just screeching and wheezing simultaneously this shit is too much i'm gonna die)
Onto the next section, it actually has to do with Kyoko and Katsuya. Mostly Kyoko, and her last thoughts before she died. At first, it was weird. What's going on? She can't hear anything, she doesn't even really hurt. Why is it so dark? Oh crap, Tohru! She can't leave yet, she doesn't want to leave Tohru alone, she only just got into high school. She hopes that she loved her enough, and that Tohru knew that, though she wished she could have had more time to love Tohru. She finally understands, though, that leaving people behind and being left behind, they're both so hard. She hopes that someone can be there for Tohru, to protect her, stay with her as she cries.
She then sees Kyo, and recognizes him as the little orange-haired kiddo she used to talk to sometimes, and hopes that even if he forgets about her, that the next time Tohru gets lost, Kyoko wants him to find her, even just once. If he doesn't do that, she'll never forgive him(that's what she meant, out of what he heard, by the way). She hopes that he can somehow take her place, and protect Tohru, and let her be happy, let her be loved by lots of people. Even if she gets lost or makes a mistake, Kyoko wants Tohru to be proud of the life she lived.
Then she wakes up in a place. I don't really know what the place looks like, but I imagine it as a light blue shimmery place, and she can see someone walking towards her, from a distance. Katsuya. Suddenly she's young again, with her long hair and uniform, and she can be with the man she loves again. (🥺😭 dissolves in my tears)
There's a time skip, now Tohru, Yuki, Kyo, Hanajima, and Uotani have graduated, and it soon after shows Tohru and Kyo cleaning up their rooms, and reminiscing about when Tohru first arrived. A lot has changed in that time, it's incredible. Tohru thinks on how she will miss everyone, and all the things that have happened (in the span of a year, right? This all mostly happened within a year or two?). Kyo then says that everyone loves and appreciates her, and it's not like she'll never see any of them again, it's just the start of something new. Then Tohru's stomach grumbles and she gets embarrassed (oh no im hungry how embarrassing 😖)
We then jump to Yuki and Machi, and Yuki gives Machi a key to his new place, because he doesn't want her to think that he's cheating on her (why would she think that???) and then nearly fuckin yeets it out the window when she says that she's not worried that he'd do that. (So he does want her to have trust issues? Yuki, dude, you're confusing me on this) I think that Machi is a year behind Yuki, so she won't be starting college the same time as he will, but she promises that she'll follow after him and be back with him as soon as she can, which is very sweet.
This whole section is mostly jumping from one group of people to the next, so I think I'll try to summarize:
Ritsu and Kagura are talking, it seems that Ritsu is giving Kagura his old kimonos. He's cut his hair shorter, and he mentions how Shigure apparently has quit being an author, much to the relief of his editor, Mitsuru. Kagura asks if Ritsu is going to marry Mitsuru, which leaves him very flustered. Kagura still is hung up on Kyo, and says that she'll see Kyo and Tohru go just to see Kyo. She won't well wish them, because she knows that they'll be happy regardless.
Hiro and Kisa are walking past Shigure's old house, speculating on what is going to happen to it. Hiro says he thinks it will stay as it is for a while, which makes Kisa happy. She hopes that it can stay up and that a new household can live in it. She then starts crying, thinking about Kyo and Tohru leaving, but she says that she will smile when she sees them go, on the next day. Hiro tells her to not be upset over crying, that she can cry as much as she wants, because he knows how much Tohru means to Kisa.
Haru, Izusu, and Momiji are talking, and Haru mentions how Hatori said that eventually, Shigure's gonna get punched in the face, but he never did. Momiji says that it didn't happen because they are all more mature than Shigure. He says as an aside that he doesn't think it should be allowed that Kyo is "taking away" Tohru, because he's being selfish, and that he wants to pinch Kyo. Haru asks why he shouldn't do it tomorrow, and Momiji says that he can't do it in front of Tohru, but this whole thing has given Momiji a new sense of motivation, to find the best girlfriend in the world, and then he'll show her off to Kyo (not the best motivation to find a partner but okay). Izusu pops up by saying that she thinks Tohru should break up with Kyo. I'm not sure why though.
It's shown that Hanajima is working at Kazuma's place as a cook, which is something that Kyo was not pleased to find out, but despite his best efforts, The Guy Who is Also There at the Dojo Whose Name I Cannot Remember can't figure out how to get her to leave. Kazuma says that he will miss Kyo, but he won't worry about him. He's in good hands now.
Uotani is on the phone with Kureno, saying that she'll send his regards to Tohru and Kyo. She also says that she will miss Tohru, but she's also excited for her, for the both of them. She asks if the cherry blossoms are blooming yet, and that she'll have to make her way out to see them (and Kureno) soon.
Ayame and Mine are sending well wishes gifts in the form of big flouncy dresses, for Tohru (who I imagine would be flattered but I doubt she would wear them). Mine says that now that the time has come, she finds this sensation of "children leaving the nest" to be lonely, and Ayame agrees, and says that's exactly why adults put obnoxious amounts of love into cardboard boxes with instant ramen, socks, maid outfits, what have you. (They then say that they're going to send similarly flouncy dresses to Yuki, who I doubt will respond kindly)
Mayu and Hatori are on a date, and he offers to take her with him on a summer vacation to Okinawa. He says he's never been on a "decent" vacation, and that he wants to see the country. Mayu starts cracking up at the idea of Hatori in a swimsuit, then sobers quickly at the idea of herself in one, saying that her figure isn't ideal for a swimsuit (from the way she talked about herself I think she'd be all the rage in early 2000's Western fashion).
Akito says that she's not going to see Tohru and Kyo leave, saying that if she wants to visit Tohru, she'll go and see her, but I imagine it's also for the sake of everyone else that would be there.
Finally, we end with Yuki going to talk to Tohru. He tells her that he's happy about all that has happened, and that he's glad that he has gotten to this point. He says that he was weak, that he couldn't handle being around people, but he wanted to be loved, and be needed. All he ever did, he says, is want. But during that crucial time, Tohru appeared, and fulfilled that wish without even trying. He learned so much from her, and she gave him what he needed, and that's how he is able to be the person he presently is. And he also finally says that she was basically his mother, in a way. He wonders if she was like that to everyone, with how warm, welcome, and gentle she is to everyone she meets. He goes on to say that in this time, when everyone is parting ways, everyone is thinking of Tohru, wondering if she's happy, if she's crying, if she's doing well. Finally, he thanks her, and says that he's so glad that he got to meet her, and that she was there for him, and for all of them. (He also actually says her name, which he's never done, I don't think. It's always been "Honda-san", but never "Tohru", but now he's said it. There's really not an English version of that, as far as I'm aware, but from what I know, it is a pretty significant thing.)
There's a little bit of an epilogue, showing a child walking into a house, asking where Tohru and Kyo are. A woman replies saying, "That's Grandma and Grandpa to you!", but the child pouts and says that Grandma said she could call her by her name, and that they left her behind again on their walk. The woman tells her to not get in the way of their "lovey-dovey alone time", and there's a final establishing shot of Tohru and Kyo walking together, holding hands, with Kyoko's words: "Repeat the good, and the bad. Do it all, and pile on the years."
And that's the end!
I think I'm heartless, because I didn't cry at the end. I wanted to, but I didn't. Overall, I really liked this series! It was a lot of fun to read, a lot of shit goes down, it was a rollercoaster. Thinking back on how the story started, knowing some of the events that occurred before the story started, it all kinda leaves a bitter taste in my mouth (mainly the teasing that Kyo gets about him "training in the mountains", and knowing what was actually going on, it's kinda hard to laugh now 😬). One thing that I was kinda expecting the story to mention, but never did, was Izusu's mark on her back. It looks like some kinda of scar, but I never saw anything addressing it. Now that I think about it, it could have been from a number of things, but it was never said explicitly, which I think is weird. I think I'm gonna leave it here (I'm typing this last portion on my phone at 3:45am so it could be better).

Chapter 7 : Je suis le roi, le roi des cons
“Are ya sure it’s here?”
“Yes I am. I saw the name of this supermarket and there’s no one else around.”
Finan sighs annoyingly, leaning back in the driver’s seat, his fingers drumming impatiently on the gear level. They have been waiting in the back parking of the Carrefour for three hours now, looking for the woman they are suspecting knows Osferth. They arrived in France two days ago, and Victoria couldn’t help the surprised look she gave to Finan when she realised how good he was speaking french.
“French women find the accent sexy when I speak french and others find speaking french hot.” He explained after they asked their way to a woman who gave him a gracious smile after.
“Oh, a real benefit then.” She commented, pretending to be impressed, even if she might be part of the other women.
Finan grinned broadly. “Indeed.”
Another thing that this time didn’t make her laugh, was Finan’s skills when it comes to stealing a car. She never felt more nervous than when he asked her to check if no one was coming while he was trying to start the car.
“Maybe she doesn’t work today.” He mumbles under his breath but Vicky ignores him when she spots a woman coming out of the back door.
“Oh Christ, I think it’s her.” She exclaims, taping Finan’s arm to have him look.
The woman walks away from the door, looking at her phone while searching something in her bag. “Alright, I'm goin', stay in the car.” He says, opening the door as Vicky rolls her eyes, tired of always having to wait in the car.
“Bonne chance!” She tells him with her best french accent, looking forward to how he'll convince the woman to tell them where Osferth is. (Good luck!)
Finan rolls his eyes and closes the door. She immediately opens the window to try to hear something, even if she doubts being able to understand half of the conversation, but at least their tones would give her a clue on how well it's going.
“Excusez-moi de vous déranger!” He calls the woman and she immediately looks up to him with furrowed eyebrows. (Sorry to bother you!)
Victoria leans forward, trying to see the woman's expression as Finan and her talk. She seems on her guard, looking around and her hand playing with her car's keys. She shakes her head and starts to walk away but Finan catches her back, grabbing her arm. Doubting he will succeed with how reluctant the woman is, she opens the car and joins them, taking her sketchbook with her. When he notices her approaching, the Irishman lets go of her arm while she studies Victoria with the same distrust that she has for Finan.
“She says she doesn't know him.” He grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I don't know who the hell you are talking about.” She confirms with a light French accent, though she keeps staring at Vicky awkwardly.
Victoria opens her sketchbook to a page where she drew Osferth and her on the next one. She gives her the work and her eyes widen. “You must know him, because he does know you.” She says in a soft but nonetheless determined tone.
The woman hesitates, looking between the two strangers and then back to the drawing. “How did you do that?” She asks Vicky.
“I've been dreaming of him, just like he probably does dream of me, right?” She tilts her head and at how the woman bites her lip, she knows she's right. Through her dreams she has learned that Osferth and she are close and that he told her his secret. Finan keeps thinking it was risky to trust the woman, but Vicky is confident.
“Are you like him?” She asks carefully, Vicky and Finan nodding immediately. “What do you want from him?”
Vicky glances at Finan for some sort of approval before answering. “He may be in danger, we need to talk to him.”
She runs her hand through her hair before giving back her sketchbook to Vicky, her expression conflicted between mistrust and worry. But she eventually sighs and accepts. “Alright, follow my car.”
Victoria huffs in relief while Finan mutters something in Gaelic. She stretches out her hand toward the woman with a kind smile. “I'm Victoria, and this is Finan.”
“Sophie.” She replies before they separate to join their respective cars.
Vicky can't help but smile widely once they are on the road, excited by the idea of meeting others like her. She dares to hope that this time, no one will die as when she met Finan. The thought amuses her and she turns to him to remind him of it, but she changes her mind when she notices how tensed his jaw is, his thumb tapping the steering wheel frantically. He is nervous again, like he has been since they arrived in France. He hasn't seen his friends for centuries and she supposes that he fears their rejection. Though she hopes that her presence could ease possible tensions.
When they stop at a red light, Victoria reaches for his forearm, her palm grazing over it until her thumb can rub the back of his hand. He turns his head to her and she didn't expect his intense dark gaze to leave her breathless. However she doesn't look away and gives him the most reassuring smile she is able to make, her fingers squeezing his wrist.
“It's going to be alright.”
His features seem to ease at her words and he let go of his grip on the steering wheel to shift his hand and grab hers, but before he can, the light is green again and a car behind urges them to move. Victoria removes her hand, looking away as she becomes aware of the heat in her cheeks.
They don't talk for the rest of the way. They quickly are driving through the countryside, still following Sophie close, and Vicky finds that it isn’t so different from England.  After twenty minutes, she takes a small dirt road that makes the car tremble. They enter a thick pine forest and she has to hold the handle above the window’s door while the car struggles in the mud. But finally they reach a small clearing, an old stoned house standing in the middle of it. Sophie stops her car while a man, alarmed by the engine noises walks out of the house. The french joins the blond man and exchanges a few words that confuse him. Victoria gets out of the car and who she now recognizes perfectly as Osferth looks at her with wide eyes, but it's nothing compared to how his mouth drops when the driver door slams and he stares at Finan appearing behind her.
“Finan?” Osferth calls him, disbelieving.
The Irish warrior stops a few steps in front of Vicky, a tight and shy smile on his face, his eyes not daring to meet his friend's one. “Hi Baby Monk.” He greets him, waving his hand.
Osferth huffs a laugh before crossing the gap between them until he takes him in a strong embrace, letting Finan frozen by surprise for a second. He wraps his arms around his friend's shoulders, holding him tightly and Vicky can't help the way her heart melts at the scene.
“You are alive.” Osferth breathes, his hands holding Finan.
Finan chuckles. “I can hardly die, Osferth.”
The blond man opens his mouth, but finally gives him an awkward smile. Then, he turns to Victoria, studying her intently with his clear eyes. “How did you find me?”
Finan glances at Vicky, giving her a grin before looking back at his friend. “Through Victoria's dreams. She is just like us.”
Osferth makes another huff and softly smiles at her, which she gives another huff. “I thought it wasn't real.” He blinks a few times before motioning and designating the house. “Come, come inside.”
Osferth leads them inside, and Vicky can't help but whisper 'I told you' to Finan before they pass the front door. He rolls his eyes, but keeps smiling, so she squeezes his arm gently before taking place at the table Osferth points at. Sophie brings them glasses of water and finally sits next to Osferth, quite close in Vicky's opinion.
The former monk, if she believes what Finan told her about him, leans forward, his hands joined upon the table. “So, how did you two meet?”
Vicky puts down her glass. “Well, Finan followed his dreams, just like we did for you. One day he knocked at my door and killed himself in my flat.”
She can feel Finan offended glare at how she foretold their meeting. “That's a really short summary.” He comments, pointing a finger at her but speaking at their hosts' attention.
Vicky waves her hand. “The most important lines.”
Osferth and Sophie only nod slowly, the story sounding really strange in just a few words. Though, the blond shakes his head and turns to Vicky with a hint of curiosity making him narrow his eyes. “But how long have you been immortal? We've traveled all around the world and we have never found someone else.”
Vicky hesitates, so much happened in so little time to her that she isn't sure anymore. “Hum… About two months.”
“Oh… So you died in the car accident?” Osferth raises his eyebrows until she nods in agreement. “And, why are you here?” He asks, this time looking at both of them alternately.
Vicky glances at Finan, his smile now gone, and clear her throat. “Maybe you've seen it, but we've been attacked.”
“We don't know who they are but they were searchin' for Victoria, and they knew that she is immortal even if she talked about it to no one.” Finan explains, his hand moving with the glass still in it.
Sophie gives a sort of gasp and she grabs Osferth's hand. “You think they could search for us too?” The monk frowns.
Finan shakes his head and presses his index on the table. “I don't know, but if they've found her, they can find y'all too. You need to warn Uhtred and Sihtric, to tell them to be careful.”
“I can't warn them.” Osferth answers after a heart beat.
This time, it's Finan who frowns, letting go of the glass. “What?” He leans forward after a blink. “No, you must know where they-”
“I can't warn them, Finan.” He cuts across him. “Because Sihtric is gone and Uhtred… Uhtred is dead.”
The sudden silence is thick as Victoria falls breathless at Osferth's words. She can't believe what he said and she has to keep herself from asking him to repeat it. But the monk's tight expression, his jaw twitching and lips pinching, is enough to prove her that she heard him well.
“What? How's that possible?” Finan asks, confused.
“We don't know, but it did happen.” Osferth answers, looking down.
“When?”
He opens his mouth, searching words and Sophie holds his hand tighter but still tenderly. “It was during the Second World War. We were going to save prisoners from German soldiers. We were just the three of us, but Uhtred was determined and sure it would go as we planned. But it was a trap, there were no prisoners. So we ran away, they were shooting at us and we got separated. It took me two hours to find Sihtric. We searched for Uhtred and when we found him, he still hadn't come back.”
He makes a pause, taking a deep breath while tears roll down his cheeks, a reflection of those on Finan's face. But when Osferth struggles to speak through the deep sadness that his friend's loss provoked, Finan on the other hand still can't believe it, eyes wide and not even staring at the monk anymore. As Vicky blinks, she realises her eyes are wet too, of shock and compassion for her friend.
Osferth swallows before continuing his story. “We waited so long, under the rain, utterly wet and freezing like hell. But he never came back.” He wipes his tears with his sleeve.
“Sihtric?” Finan asks under his breath.
The monk sniffs and sighs regretfully. “We tried to stay together, but he was more and more distant. One day he just… He just left without a word.”
Finan nods but Victoria doubts he has accepted the information. He stands up, his hand flat on the table and his face dark, the chair squeaking as he does so. He is about to say something, the three others staring at him, but he just closes his mouth and leaves the house.
“I'm so sorry.” Vicky stammers, torn apart between Finan's pain that affects her more than she expected and the shock of the revelation. She rises from her chair as well, her hand waving toward the door. “I should go with him, see if he's fine.”
Sophie walks around the table and rubs her arm in a kind attempt. “Sure, go.”
When she is outside, Victoria perceives Finan crouched, gripping his hair fiercely, his back to her. She steps carefully toward him but he doesn't react until she runs her hand between his shoulder blades.
“I'm such an idiot.” He whispers barely audibly before he stands up, towering one head over Victoria of one head. She bites her lip at how much hatred is burning in his eyes, but the anger is only towards himself. “I'm a fuckin' idiot!” He shouts, gripping his shirt over his chest. “If I wasn't so stubborn. If I had searched for them before, maybe it wouldn't have happened, maybe I could have helped, maybe-”
“Finan that's enough.” She orders him, clasping her palms over his cheeks to force him to look at her. “Rewriting the past is useless, it will change nothing.”
“They were my brothers and I abandoned them.” He mutters guiltily.
She brushes back the hair falling over his forehead, resting her hand then on the back of his neck. “You're not responsible for what happened.”
He lets out some sort of strangled sob before leaning down, seeking the comfort of her embrace and she doesn't reject him. For the second time in a few days, she lets him cry on her shoulder, holding him tight. Her heart squeezes, thinking about the new wound Uhtred's loss is creating in the middle of the Irishman's heart already full of scars. He spoke to her of his friend and his adventures with so much pride and joy, describing the strong bond between them. She can only imagine the pain through the one she would feel if she learned Rebecca's death.
When he has calmed down, after long minutes, she stays with him while he smokes a cigarette, sitting on the floor, back against the car. “It doesn't make sense.” He mutters, smoke escaping his mouth.
Vicky glances at him. “Maybe we are just an anomaly?” She says, not really having thought about it before asking. “And our death has just been programmed in the wrong time.”
Finan huffs, closing his red and swollen eyes before raising his face to the now darkening sky. “That's crazy.”
“As if something hasn't been so far.” She shrugs before resting her head against his shoulder, closing her eyelids as well and remaining focused on Finan's slow breath.
“Thank ya.” He whispers, barely audible as the words mixed with his exhale.
“For what?”
“Bein' here.”

The Missing Piece (Chapter 12)
Closer.
Tumblr media
gang! au / ceo! au
characters: dabi x f. oc, lov
status: ongoing
read on ao3 here.
a/n: i really like this chapter heh, hope u enjoy! 😚
The staircase leads all the way to basement. I wondered why they would hide such steep, hidden steps in Dabi's office when they could create (much) shorter, more accessible ones from the first floor.
But I'm guessing that's the point.
This isn't supposed to be easy to reach. And Dabi's office is the one place no one would dare enter.
Aside from us, of course.
The basement is completely dark, forcing me to draw myself even closer to Dabi. I enjoy the weight of his hand in mine. He has a firm, tight grip. But just as the thought warms my cheeks, I shake it out of my head.
Within seconds, Dabi turns on the lights.
My eyes widen, taking in the sight before me.
Blood.
A lot of it.
Though it looks dried, like it's been there for ages.
I spot a wall of different sized knives on one hand. A gun display on the other. A shelf of jars, filled with a murky looking liquid and...I don't even want to know what that is inside.
Dabi watches me.
There's a simple, plastic white table in the center of the floor with a large white board behind it.
The place is much messier and less...classy, than the rest of the Blaze.
But I have the feeling it's because it's not meant for outside eyes.
"You okay?" Dabi asks.
I nod, squeezing his hand to comfort myself.
Before the others reach the bottom, he whispers in my ear, "Whenever you want to leave, let me know. You don't have to be here."
"Okay."
"And," He takes another glance at the stairs as the others begin to appear. "Again, Rina. This place does not exist. Anything we say here does not leave this room. Got it?"
I glance warily at the knives.
"Why are you so worried?" I try to smile so he doesn't pick up on my nervousness. "I don't have anyone outside of you guys anyway. Who would I talk to?"
My comment seems to confuse him. "What about-"
"Welcome to the League!!" Toga jumps off the last few steps and swings into full view.
I shoot Dabi a look. "The League?"
"The League of Villains, of course!" Atsuhiro follows Toga, a dramatic grin on his lips. "Only the baddest group of bad boys in town."
"And girls!" Toga calls out.
"League of Villains?" I cackle. "Who came up with that?"
Tenko scowls.
Oop.
Dabi lets go of my hand and motions for me to take a seat on one of the plastic chairs.
I pick a red chair near the board.
"So what is that you guys really do?"
"I told you," Dabi says. "Special services to people willing to pay up."
Given where we are, that suddenly feels a lot more sinister than it did when he first told me.
I look back at the knives and jars in the background.
"So like, a gang? Where you steal things and hurt people if someone pays you enough? Like the movies?"
"Guess you could put it that way."
"And there's actually people that pay for this stuff?"
Dabi shrugs. "It's a niche market."
Woah.
There's a lot more questions in my head, but now is not the time. Maybe later.
As Dabi moves to take a seat, his abdomen brushes against the edge of the table and he hisses in pain.
It releases blood again.
"Fuck!" He grips the skin.
I move closer to him, gripping his hands again. "It still hurts?" I ask worriedly. "Is there anything we can do?" I look around at the others quickly.
"Yes!" Toga says, a little too eagerly.
"What is it?"
She hops over to knives behind us, and takes a moment deciding which one she wants.
She brandishes a short but sharp blade and lets out an excited squeal, as though she enjoyed this.
"Fire please!" She calls out.
What's she doing?
Dabi groans and pulls a lighter out of his pocket. He tosses it toward her, and she carefully holds it under the edge of the blade, running it up and down for several minutes until it turns red.
She's going to seal the wound so it doesn't get infected.
"Lie down, boss," She says in a sing-song voice.
I clear the few papers were scattered on the table and move so Dabi could spread himself over it.
He lifts the edge of his shirt to his midriff, and my breath catches in my throat when I see his abdomen.
The skin is covered in large swaths of reddish purple.
Like parts of it were burnt off...
I gasp.
"These are old," Dabi looks at me. He's watching me carefully, wanting to see just how I'd react. "Still want to be here?"
I swallow my anxiety as I stare at Dabi's mismatched skin. I won't give him the chance to say 'I told you so.'
This must be why he wouldn't let me dress the wound.
He didn't want me to see this.
No wonder the stab didn't phase him.
What else has his body been through...
"Here I come!" Toga grins.
She was all too eager to take the scorching knife and press it to his stomach.
Dabi clenches his teeth immediately, leaving me to hurriedly stand next to him. I squeeze his hand to soothe him, but he grips mine back so hard I think he might break it.
I brush his hair out of eyes and press my hand to his forehead to calm him.
"It's okay," I tell him softly. "It's over."
The others stare at Dabi's wound uncomfortably, like they've been under Toga's knife before.
I wonder if they have similar wounds.
Dabi releases his harsh grip on my hand and begins to breathe slower.
One things strikes me though.
Despite all the pain he's undoubtedly feeling right now, not a single tear drops from his eyes.
I think it might just be him trying not to appear weak in front of us.
But as I look into his eyes, I'm surprised to find them completely dry.
"Are you superhuman or something?" I joke with him.
He looks at me quizzically.
"All of that and you didn't cry?"
Dabi closes his eyes. "I don't cry." He grits his teeth.
I roll my eyes.
Whatever you say.
The others slowly help him sit up straight. I take the first aid kit from Atsuhiro, picking out the cotton, gauze and antibacterial wipes.
Dabi is less reluctant when I try to wrap the area this time.
"You can hold onto me if you want," I tease as I wrap the gauze around his body.
A small smirk appears on his lips. His arm suddenly snakes around my waist, pulling me close to him.
I blush and the gauze falls out of my hands.
Dabi tilts his head. "What's wrong? Thought you wanted me to hold onto you?"
The guys snicker behind us.
I push him away from me, and he laughs as I take another piece of gauze and try again.
"You guys can talk now," I tell them focused on what I'm doing. "What exactly happened today?
Did Mr. Lane find out about the League? Is that what made you a target?"
Dabi is silent.
His silence puzzles me. I look to the others to see if they knew anything.
"Dabi tried blowing up his car!" Toga volunteers.
I frown.
Could this be just because of how Mr. Lane treated me?
No. There's no reason for it to mean that much to Dabi.
Enough to get angry, sure.
To harm Mr. Lane?
Doubtful.
"Why would you blow up his car?" I ask.
Tenko pulls up a chair. "We did some research on him. He's working with some really shady people. And Dabi told us about the whole Todoroki affair."
I shoot Dabi a look.
"They're trying to trick people into thinking they're heroes. That they should be put on a pedestal and admired. There's people out there telling their kids to be like them. Meanwhile they're going around-"
"Enough," Dabi interrupts Tenko. "Point is, they're fakes. They built up their media empires off that fake image. And we're going to expose them."
"But you guys are also doing...you know," I don't know how to say it in a way that isn't offensive. "I mean, you tried blowing up his car. And I'm guessing you probably have done more...if I'm not reaching."
Their eyes harden.
"We never pretended to be good."
I know I should stay silent, but I keep going.
"Right, but you have a double image too. There's the Blaze, and then there's the League."
They shake their heads.
"The Blaze is to funnel money into the League. Yeah, sure it's a front, but those who need our services know where to find us. We can't have masses of people finding out about the other shit we do, can we?"
"But how did this all start? What are you trying to achieve?"
"We just hate hypocrites. We'll help a bad guy to bring down a worse guy. Those that act like angels in public are our favorite targets. I don't care if we have to steal, blackmail, or kill them," Dabi's eyes shine with evil. "Whatever it takes to beat their egos down. Reveal the private faces they hide. Until they're forced to show their bloody hands before the world. Someone like Enji is using Lane for media coverage. Lane is depending on him for protection and cash. We can take them both down."
"What if you get caught?"
He dismisses the question, like it's not even worth his time. "By who?" He scoffs. "Lane? As soon as we take down Enji, Lane's done for. Since he's your old boss, we can give you leeway with how badly you want us to go after him." Dabi says this like that's what I'm genuinely concerned about right now. "Lane's a scared little prick anyway, as soon as he saw me he bounced out of the car and screamed for protection." He laughs like he can picture Mr. Lane's pathetic position as we speak. "But he'll fall. Just like the rest of them."
"I meant the police, Dabi."
The question puzzles him as if he's never considered it before. But the look in his eyes tells me they're even less of a concern than Mr. Lane.
"Don't worry about that," He says. "That's the least of our problems, to be honest."
I nod.
I let them speak uninterrupted for the rest of the night. They have business to take care of, and if I keep asking questions like this, they'll never get to finish. It's enough that they waited all day for me to leave so they could start. Can't hold them up at night as well.
The Todoroki name was brought up several times, among others. It seems strange now, considering Dabi knows it was Mr. Lane's relations with Enji that led to me leaving the company the way I did. Turns out he knows a lot more about Enji than I do.
I try to keep track of the other names as well, but there's so many and I'm so tired, I can barely keep up.
"Here's where Rina comes in," Dabi continues.
My eyes widen at the mention of my name.
"Enji's using Lane for his image. Rina, you said they were working on a movie or something?"
"A documentary, yes."
"We need to make sure that shit doesn't air."
I bite my lip, trying to remember as much information as I could about the documentary. It was supposed to air already. I remember Mr. Lane saying it would be within the month.
But it hasn't yet.
Which means I need to find out more from Al.
"My roommate still works at NNTV. She's the floor manager so she might have some idea of what's going on. I can ask her."
"You sure you can trust her?" Dabi asks with a frown.
"Well, I'm not gonna tell her any details, she's the one that's gonna need to have trust in me, no?"
Atsuhiro cracks his knuckles and rubs his neck. "I don't know, I don't like the sound of that. We have our own ways of finding stuff out so-"
"It won't hurt to try," I insist, looking at Dabi since he's the one that has final say on these matters. "Having 2 avenues of information is better than 1."
Truth be told, I just want to feel useful. I want to feel like I have a role to play, not just that I'm here to "sit and watch".
I want them to feel good about me being here, not apprehensive about whether this was a good decision.
After some deliberation, Dabi sighs. He looks to the others for input. "Might as well?"
"I mean she's here," Tenko says monotonously. "Might as well use her."
Dabi nods and then turns to me. "Just don't be stupid with it. Lead her into the conversation, don't bring it up out of nowhere. She'll be curious about why you're bringing it up. Don't say anything that'll make her ask questions. The more questions she asks you, the more suspicious she'll be."
"Relax guys, I got this." I smile. "Besides, she's a chatterbox. She'll open up at the slightest nudge and go on forever. She's the one that told me about all the.." I grimace. "..issues with the Todoroki company."
Plus, she's my friend! Of course, I can trust her. We've been roommates for years. If anyone could tell me about Mr. Lane's current plans for the documentary, it'd be her.
"So it's settled!" Toga claps. She takes a marker and goes up to the white board, drawing a flow chart with all that's been discussed today. She adds my part last, circling my name and underlining it several times for emphasis, over a big red INTEL SOURCING.
The sight of that makes me smile, like I have a role to play in all of this. I look around at the others but they're all preoccupied with moving things around and discussing their own parts.
The lack of enthusiasm isn't surprising, I mean this is normal for them.
But all I can think of is how exciting it'll be if I have something to contribute the next time we meet. If they'll call me down, and look at me expectantly. I imagine the looks on their faces with glee and the thought almost makes me giddy.
"Okay, are we done here?" Dabi asks.
A bunch of 'yes'es and 'yup's fill the basement.
"Alright then," Dabi grabs a leather jacket from on the wall and checks to make sure his keys are inside. Then he walks my way and grabs my arm.
"Time for you to go home," He says, moving me in front of him.
"But-"
"Now," His eyes narrow. He moves his head in a silent nudge, telling me to turn around and make my way upstairs.
The others watch us curiously, and Toga lets out a snicker at my expense.
"I'm jealous!" She calls after us. "Wish I had someone to drive me home!"
Dabi groans, nudging me to keep moving.
"Bye guys," I wave back at them from halfway up the steps. "I'll see you tomorrow!"
They all wave warmly and I can't help thinking how grateful I am that they trusted me with this.
It feels so weird emerging out of Dabi's office like this, from a secret path that leads deep under the building. But Dabi simply presses another tile in the walls, and the entrance reseals itself, as though it never existed.
We make our way to his car, and I hurry to catch up to him. The height difference certainly doesn't help.
He unlocks the car and slides into the driver's seat. I follow into the passenger's seat and shift awkwardly in my place.
"Where do you live?" He asks as he readjusts his rearview mirror. No sooner had I told him the address, than he revved the engine and sped away from the Blaze.
The ride is quiet for a while. Regrettably so. Dabi hands me a box of disinfectants to wipe the blood off my hands. I wonder how many times he's had to do the same thing before coming into the office.
I fiddle with the hems of my shirts as I try to think of something to talk about. Dabi doesn't seem to be in as big of a rush to speak, his eyes darting from the rearview to the side mirrors periodically as we cruise down the mostly empty highway.
"Dabi?"
"Hm."
"When they said you were gone today, were you really in the basement the whole time?"
Dabi takes a moment to answer. "After I got back, yeah. Couldn't exactly walk through the front doors looking the way I did." He glances at me before switching lanes.
"Were you avoiding me?"
"Partly."
I nod. "Now that I know about the League, do you think you'd avoid me in a case like this again?"
"A case like this won't happen again."
"Okay." I respond quietly. "Cause you know I get worried."
Dabi seems to be deep in thought.
"You worry a lot for someone who's only met me a month ago."
I smile. "Well, of course. We're friends aren't we?"
Dabi spares me a look before switching lanes again. "Right." But he doesn't look like he fully believes me.
"You think you'll be able to handle your friend?" He changes the subject.
"Who, Aliyah? Of course! I told you, we're really good friends and she's the kind of person that loves gossiping anyway. It'll be a piece of cake."
He grunts. "Okay. Because to be honest, that's part of why I wanted you at the Blaze."
I don't know why hearing that makes me feel slightly sad, but it does. "The documentary?"
"Yeah. I mean you work in the media industry. You'd know about that stuff. People like Enji have the industry wrapped around their palms. When you told me he was cozying up to NNTV, I figured you'd be the person to handle all of that for me."
I nod. "So why haven't you asked me before today?" Come to think of it, he even sounded reluctant about agreeing.
"I don't know," He sighs. "Still not sure I want you mixed up with all of this."
I roll my eyes. "I'm not even a member, remember? I'm just getting information for you," I tease. "What's so dangerous about that?"
"That's what worries me," Dabi glances at me, his brows pulled together. "That's all you see it as."
"What am I supposed to see it as?"
"What it is," Dabi gets increasingly agitated, but he tries to keep himself calm. "I'm not sure you're taking this seriously enough, Rina. The closer you get to us, the more at risk you are. The more people that know you work for me, especially what kind of work," He looks dead serious. "The more danger you'll be in."
I roll my eyes. "But no one knows anything about you, Dabi. I've been here for a month and I'm only just finding out about all of this. And I'm sure there's much more I don't know. How would people outside of the League even find out?"
"Same way we find out shit about them. Lane's using his Todoroki connections to supply him with information and protection. They're good at what they do."
My mouth drops. "You mean the Todorokis know about you?"
"Well," Dabi's jaw hardens. "They think they do."
I wait for him to say more, but he leaves it at that. We ride the rest of the distance in silence.
Once we pull up in front of my apartment complex, I try to put a smile on my face.
"Thanks Dabi." I tell him as I unlock the door.
He nods without looking at me. "See you tomorrow."
Those words trigger me immediately and I let go of the handle.
"Don't say that."
Dabi looks confused.
"You said that yesterday and had no intention of seeing me." I cross my arms. "You broke your promise."
"Don't be dramatic, no one says that shit as a promise."
"See you tomorrow means I'll see you tomorrow," I tell him seriously. "Otherwise, just say goodbye or something else."
He leans his head forward against the steering wheel and sighs. "It's just a stupid phrase, you're overthinking it."
I frown.
"See you tomorrow," He gives up. But still, I don't leave.
"I mean it!" He says. "I. Will. See. You. Tomorrow. Good enough?"
I grin. "Mhm, thank you!" I lean over to give him a quick hug before I leave, and he immediately recoils, like my body was made of ice.
"Handsy, aren't you," He mutters, craning his neck to look at me, without getting too close.
I pull away.
"Always have to ruin the moment, don't you," I counter, slightly disappointed. I turn to open the door, and suddenly feel him pull me back in.
"How do you do that?" His voices comes out low and raspy.
I look into his eyes. "Do what?"
There's that frustration in his eyes again.
"Fucking making me feel bad about shit I'd never fucking feel bad about." He growls.
The way he says it makes me blush.
"Cut that shit out."
"Yes sir," I mumble.
He leans his head back.
Then, he hesitantly opens his arms.
I shake my head, pulling my purse over my shoulder again. "Not gonna force you to do something you don't want to do."
I open the door this time, and just as I'm about to step out of his car, he pulls my arm again - harder this time, and I fall back into the bend of his arm.
My heart is pounding faster. I shake my hair from my face to get a better look at Dabi in the dark.
"Why are you so much fucking work," He mutters, his face inches away from mine. I swallow.
He leans forward to hug me closer to his chest. The leather jacket feels surprisingly smooth against my cheek, and my hand finds the back of his seat to balance myself, careful of coming near his wound. He holds me to him for a few long breaths and I smile against his chest, knowing he can't see me right now.
When we pull away, I look at his face once more. But Dabi avoids my gaze.
"You don't have to play along with me," I tell him, a teasing smile on my lips. "I'll only expect more from you next time."
"See you tomorrow," He mumbles, still without facing me. His foot is on the brakes but he's already pulling the gear shift into Drive.
And then, just before I leave for good and with no time to think this through -
I press my lips on his cheek.
Dabi's eyes widen immediately and he looks at me in alarm. "What-"
"Bye Dabi!" I wave with a laugh as I hurry out of his car. I run to the door of my building, grateful for the dark to hide my red cheeks.
Dabi remains in front of the building for a moment, his head still turned my way in shock.
I close the door behind me but hurry to the window, peeking the corner of my head out just in time to catch him shaking his head and rubbing a tired hand across his eyes.
There's no way to describe the relief and warmth in my chest, when he eventually pulls out of his spot.
But just before he can drive off, I swear I feel him smirk at the window.
As if he can hear the adrenaline thrumming in my veins.

Spidey Senses (pt. 6)
Peter Parker x reader
Summary: Having to keep up a lie is hard for Peter when you're trying to help him.
Word Count: 3366
Chapter 1 • Chapter 5
Tumblr media
"What do you mean finally?! This is bad. Really, really bad Ned. I shouldn't be thinking about her like that!"
"Dude, it's your feelings. You're gonna feel whatever way you do. You can't control that stuff."
"But this could ruin our friendship. I don't want that." Peter whined over the phone as he put his hand over his eyes, laying on his bed.
"Or~ maybe this could all work and you could score a girlfriend." Ned suggested, amusement laced in his voice. "I mean, I didn't want to be the first one to say this, but..."
"What?"
"Let's just put it this way. She's always had a cute heart. Over time, her heart got cuter and went straight to making her face kinda hot."
"Ned." Peter frustratedly said.
Ned gave him a goofy laugh. "You sound like your getting jealous or something."
Peter quickly sat up. "Do you think that'll happen?"
"Probably." He said nonchalantly. "All seriousness Peter, you should go for it. I always thought you two would be good together. There's just something there, trust me. And hey, you two could be the amazing spider couple. That'd be awesome."
"Spider couple." He smiled and laid back down. "You think people would make that, like, a ship name for us?"
"Dude, you could have a super girlfriend. How awesome does that sound?!"
Peter let out a chuckle. "That does sound pretty cool. Okay, thanks for the therapy session. Night Ned."
"No problem. Night." And with that Peter stayed up to think about you some more.
The next week at school went horribly. All Peter wanted to do was spend more time with you, but you kept pushing him towards Liz at gym class and in Mathletes. He felt so jealous whenever he saw you goofing off with Ned. You were a very touchy person, and every warm hug to Ned felt like Peter's arms were getting colder.
When Liz was finally busy, he went over to you and sat a little closer to you than usual. "Hey Peter." You greeted brightly. "Any progress?"
"On what?" He asked dumbly.
"Liz." You said quietly.
"Oh!" He voice cracked and cleared his throat. "Oh. Um, not really. I think I'm done for the day."
"Aw, Peter!" You rubbed his arm. "You shouldn't give up on stuff that's important to you."
He sighed, glancing at Ned's confused face. "Can't I just spend the rest of the day with you?"
You smiled and nodded, patting his cheek gently. Peter's phone buzzed and it was a text message from Ned.
Not Guy in the Chair: Why didn't you tell her how you feel?
He glanced at you working on your notes.
SM: I don't want things to be weird.
Not Guy in the Chair: The truth will set you free 🕊️🕊️
SM: Shhhh
You then took out left over brownies for Peter. He gladly took one as Flash came over, taking one out of the container as well. "Hey babe."
"Don't touch my stuff and never call me that." You closed your container and put it in your backpack. "What do you want Flash?"
"Just making sure you got a hot outfit for the party. Finally gonna show some skin?"
"I do have a costume. Peter was with me when I got it too. We had a lot of fun." Peter looked at you and smiled.
Flash then rolled his eyes. "Really? How could anyone ever have fun with Penis Parker?"
"Well we do." You tugged each boy at your side into a side hug. "Do you have a special trio that would do anything for you?"
He nervously scoffed. "I have more than two friends. Does every friend seem special to you when you're not popular?"
"If you called one of your friends in the middle of the night and told them to come over cause you're sad, would any of them do it?" He was silent as he looked down. "That's a special friend. Now goodbye."
"Y'know—"
"Good. Bye." You pressed, frowning.
"I—"
"Dude," MJ interrupted. "Know when you've been beat. Walk away."
He then did so, stomping away. You smiled and looked over to MJ. "Why do we not talk to each other?"
"Cause you're a loser." She said, matter-of-factly.
Though Ned and Peter have her a confused frown, your smile only widened. "What are you?"
"Friendless."
"Not anymore!" You exclaimed. The teacher then announced that the club session just ended. "We'll see you at lunch tomorrow then."
She stared at you for a moment. "...Okay, I guess. Bye." You could tell that she held back a smile as you excitedly waved at her before packing up.
You and Peter were walking home, when he asked about MJ. "I don't know." You said, shrugging. "I just feel like she's cool. My spidey senses can feel it."
"You say that about everything." He laughed.
"Because I'm always right about everything. It's a given." He chuckled again. "C'mon, don't you ever have intensified feelings about some things or people?"
He awkwardly smiled and nodded, looking away from you. "More than I should." He mumbled.
"Hm?"
"I said I should hope so."
"Well then, see? I'm right again." You grinned.
"Did your spidey senses feel that too?"
"Yup." You both chuckled.
Over the next few days MJ began to directly hang out with you and the boys, and she said that she would be going to the party as well. "I don't believe in stereotyping geeks out of parties, which is why I'm supporting you guys tomorrow." She explained with an almost unnoticeable smile.
"So generous." You teased back, Ned and Peter smiling as well. "What'll you be going as?"
"Oh, I'll be going as part of the impartial generation of today." She gave a sly smile.
"Nice, nice." You nodded contently before Flash came up to your table again. "Holy crap man, are you sure you even have friends? Why do you keep bugging me?"
"Just wanted to see what the new member of the Penis Parker group was like." He then nodded to Mj, to which she didn't respond. He then rudely waved his hand over her face. "Hello?"
She backed her face up as you smacked his hand away. "Leave her alone."
"What? This is probably the most exciting thing to happen to her. It's not like you guys have interesting lives." You and Peter looked at each other. "I'm guessing that's a no?"
"Well Peter and y/n know Spiderman and Spidergirl!" Ned blurted out.
Flash then did a breathy, wheezing laugh. "Are you kidding me? How would they know them?"
"The Stark Internship!"
"Ned, stop talking." You mumbled. Ned nodded and put his head down. "We met them a few times, so we don't really know them or anything, and even if we did were aren't supposed to talk about it."
"Well Peter," he ignored you. "If you're actually cool then why don't you invite them the the party?"
"Cause we wouldn't want to waste their time by having them go to some fanboy's party." You argued, knowing Peter would choke up if he answered.
Flash shrugged it off. "That's what I thought." He said as he left.
The next day you were talking to Linda while in your costume with your mini backpack slung over your shoulder. She was telling you about the job interview she's getting and how she's saving up the money from Tony's watch to rent an apartment in the building you live it. "I'm so happy right now Linda! You could totally be one of those super nosey neighbors, and I would pretend to be okay with it!"
"That would be a dream come true." She said as you both turned your heads to see Peter coming, also dressed up. "Just a few years older, and I would totally go for that."
You sighed. "You're such a creeper Linda."
"And you should loosen up and be more of a creeper." You gave her a look, and she only shrugged. "Just saying. Press on and go for it."
"Hey guys." Peter greeted with a smile. "Everything okay?"
"Yup!" You hopped off the steps you were sitting on. "Let's go."
"Okay. Bye Linda." Peter politely waved.
"Don't acknowledge her Peter, it makes her weirder."
"Don't be jealous that I'm more fun." She called out, smiling.
Peter chuckled and tried to put his hands in his pockets, only for his hands to slip from there being none. He didn't know what to do with his free hand that wasn't carrying the shield. He probably looked so awkward in front of you right now. This was so nerve wracking.
"Peter calm down." You suddenly said, causing him to jump a little. "It's my first party too, but we got each other. And we know Ned's gonna be there to be a dork, and Mj will be there to remind us how stupid we look. It'll be great."
He nervously laughed, scratching his head. "Yeah, I guess." He then became nervous just thinking about what would happen if you discovered this crush, especially at the party with Flash. "Y/n, what do you see in men?"
The question was unexpected, and your face felt like it was in flames. "What would you ask that?"
"Just wondering. I don't think I've ever seen you flirt with someone." He mentally sighed at the save.
"Mm, I guess he has to be nice, for starters. I'd want him to make me laugh, and care about me. I don't know, that's really it."
"Really? Only that?"
"Yeah?"
"Nothing with looks, or..."
"Peter!" You lightly smacked his arm and giggled. "You know I don't care about that stuff."
"You care about your own looks." He said quietly.
"That's different though." You grinned and tugged on his wrist. "We're here. C'mon."
Ned was waiting on the steps, looking up at you two in major relief. "Guys, tell me you brought the suits."
You both nodded. "Our suits aren't party tricks." You said. "This feels way too wrong."
"Yeah, I'm with y/n. Those suits are worth way too much to use for something like this." Peter added.
"Only for a few minutes. This is our chance for Flash to stop messing with us." Ned whined.
You huffed. "Okay, but only if Flash is being extra annoying."
The three of you walked inside and saw Flash trying to be a DJ, playing some basic techno music. He saw the three of you, and brought out his mic. "Hey Penis Parker, where's your superhero friends? That's not Spiderman, that's Ned in a onesie."
People began laughing, and you pursed your lips. "I'll be right back."
You left and went behind a building, opening your backpack and quickly changing into your hero outfit. You took a deep breath, and was about to swing in when you got a call from Peter.
"Dude, tell me she's doing it." You could hear Ned say.
"I don't know, I'm gonna ask her. Y/n?"
"Yeah?" You laughed out.
"Did you really put it on?"
"Yeah. Are you gonna join me or do you just want me to do it?"
"This doesn't feel right."
"Peter doesn't know what he's saying." Ned called out in a child-like tone.
"Ned's being mean to me." Peter responded in the same tone.
You giggled. "Look guys, I don't feel great about it, but Flash needs to be knocked down a peg. It hurts to see him treat you guys like crap. This is just gonna be a one time thing, right?"
"Right." Peter confirmed.
Ned remained silent, but Peter nudged him. He huffed. "Right."
"Okay, I'll be down in a bit." You then ended the call.
"So, I've been meaning to ask," Ned said. "But why does y/n still think you like Liz? I thought you were gonna tell her yesterday."
"I didn't know how to tell her the truth! I panicked!"
"You're hopeless." Mj said as she walked up to the two boys. "What happened to y/n?"
"She went to go get Spidergirl." Ned nodded for way to long as he said this.
"Wait," She looked genuinely surprised. "So you guys, like, actually know the Spider heros?"
"What was that?" Flash asked over his mic. "Is Penis Parker actually going to bring Spiderman and Spidergirl here?"
"Actually, um, Spiderman couldn't make it." Peter said before clearing his throat awkwardly. "But Spidergirl said she'd make an appearance."
Flash obnoxiously laughes into the mic. "Can anybody believe this guy?"
You then swung in. "I do." You raised your hand playfully as everyone began cheering. "You guys were expecting me, right?"
Everyone cheered again. "Oh my God." Flash said in a high pitched manner.
You grabbed Ned by the shoulders. "It's Ned, right?" You asked over the music, loud enough for everyone to hear. "I've heard good things about you."
"All true." He showed his goofy smile.
You patted his cheek. "I bet!" You turned and walked over to Peter, giving him a big hug. He returned it, finding the hug oddly comforting considering everyone was staring. "Peter! It's been a bit, huh?"
He awkwardly chuckled. "Yeah. Thanks for coming."
"Of course! When I heard from SM that the Peter Parker finally had time for a party, I knew I had to come and see it for myself! Maybe my partner could join in next time, yeah?"
"We... Um..." He kept doing his little pant–laugh thing that he does when he doesn't know what to say. "Yeah."
You moved over to look at Mj. "You go by Mj, right?" She nodded. "Y/n tells me you're super opinionated and awesome."
She smiled and shrugged, tucking back some hair. "I just kinda say whatever comes to mind. I don't really think before I talk sometimes."
You tapped her chin. "I love it. Never change." You then clapped your hands. "Now! Where's Flash Thompson?"
Everyone pointed to Flash, who quickly turned down the music. You swung to him quickly and caused him to back up into a small table, awkwardly steadying it. "H... Hi."
"Hi Flash. I wanted to let you know that me and Spiderman keep tabs on our friends, to make sure they're okay. We're pretty protective, y'know?"
"Yeah, yeah. I totally get that." He kept awkwardly nodding.
You nodded and patted his cheek. "I knew you would, so I need you to keep an eye on Peter and Ned while me and SM can't. Can you do that for me?"
"Yes, yes I can. I could do anything for you."
"Thank you Flash." You patted his arm, to which he looked at his arm in amazement. "Amazing. Okay, I gotta go. But remember, I keep tabs on your school, so I'll be watching!"
You then walked around for a bit taking pictures and talked to some people. You suddenly felt goosebumps all over and excused yourself, flying out and looking around. You saw a small blue explosion in the distance and quickly texted Peter.
He came as soon as he could and you explained the situation. Unbeknownst to the two of you, Mj noticed Peter leave quickly after you did. She also noticed that you weren't in sight while Spidergirl was here.
"Okay, okay. I, I need to change!" He then quickly took off his shirt and started unbuckling his pants, looking up to you dumbly staring at him. "Uh..."
"Sorry!" You quickly turned around and look off your mini backpack, plopping it down next to yourself. It had Peter's suit folded inside. "That was partially not my fault. You gotta warn somebody before you start stripping next time."
"Next time?" He asked teasingly. "You say it like you want it to happen again."
Truth be told, neither of you knew where this new found confidence of Peter came from to tease you like that. It was almost like he was flirting. You liked it though; it was as if he was becoming more confident and mature with himself.
Your face was hot as you grinned at the ground. "Well, you gotta pay for whatever expensive college you're gonna get into somehow. And I'll come visit at the strip club to support my best friend."
He hugged you with one arm from behind. "So supportive. Maybe the reason I'm a stripper is to support the both of us."
You chuckled and rubbed his arm. "My hero."
He turned you around and handed you your backpack. "This is a cool backpack, by the way. I like the mini things of Thor."
"Thank you." You said, awkwardly taking the backpack. "Now let's go."
Neither of you could get some webbing to hold onto any tree in the area, so instead you both ran across a whole field, looking kind of comical. By the time you two got there this one man was showing another some high tech weapons. You were getting closer to listen in, and it sounded like the guy wasn't interested in what the others were trying to sell.
"Why you trying to upsell me man?"
The other two guys didn't like this, and were slowly getting angrier. You tried to get closer, but Peter's phone went off from Ned calling him. You both hid as Peter fumbled to end the call, and the two merchants assumed the buyer was setting them up because of the noice. In an instant there were two guns pointed at the buyer.
"Woah, woah!" You yelled as you and Peter came out, hands up. "C'mon guys, I promise he wasn't turning his back on you two. And I'm a good guy; good guys don't lie."
"Really, if you guys are gonna shoot at anybody, shoot at me." Peter said with seriousness. "I'm the real threat."
The two guys looked at each other and pointed their guns at the both of you. "Okay."
You both dodged their shots and flung their guns away with your webs. You tried to shoot at the wheels of the car but the man with an electric glove shot at you, causing you to fling back. You noticed that the buyer hesitated to go and help you, but decided not to and instead hopped in his car and drove away.
When you got up they were getting in the car so you and Peter shot a web to the door. The door broke off, but Peter shot another web to the car to have you two ride the door.
"Hey, I got a really stupid idea!" You yelled out as the guy in the back of the van was reaching for a gun.
"Go for it!" The van hit a sharp turn, and you took this as chance to let go of the door and leap to a tree, using your strength to push and dive head first into the van.
"Woah, I did it!" The shocker guy tried to punch you with his electric glove, but you dodged it. "Someone's bitter!"
You began to go on a defensive position and dodge his contact hits and fires in the narrow van, until Peter shot a web at him that pinned one of his hands to the side of the van. He used the other hand to shoot at Peter, blasting him into a backyard.
"I'm okay!" You heard him yell out from a distance.
You slammed the shocker guy to the ground and pinned his hands and feet to the ground. You stood and shot web to cover his mouth as well. "That was a pretty rude thing to do, but I guess two v one isn't fair. Then again, you're are a bad guy."
You remembered that you had your backpack on this whole time, and took it off to hug it.
"Mh. Once again, Thor backpack comes in clutch. Odinson, you can me do no wrong." You opened your backpack and put some small weapons in it, zipping it up and putting it back on. You looked outside before turning around to talk to the man pinned on the ground. "I wonder where Spiderman went. It's all good though, I'll stop the car—"
You were cut off by something grabbing you and yanking you back. You yelped as you were whipped into this huge lake. The water hit you painfully and you began to see spots, seeing a flash of a man with mechanical wings. You almost didn't feel something bring you up.
"Thanks ma..." You looked up and winced. What was carrying you was the Iron Man suit. "Uh oh."
"I have some words for you two."

Chapter 24
The Power Couple.
Magnus was enjoying one of his favorite Indonesian dishes, Ayam Bakar Taliwang, chewing on the juicy chicken while listening to his husband's rambling about his newfound powers. He didn't want to show that he's losing interest now, as the winged nephilim was continuously rambling about it for over an hour, so he pretended that he was listening because he didn't want to upset his husband, who was sounding way too excited. He was replying with whatever came into his mind first when a few balls of paper napkins hit his face.
"Ow! Alexander, what was that!?"
"Were you even listening to what I was saying?"
Magnus gulped, he actually wasn't. He stopped listening to him about twenty to twenty-five minutes ago and was simply enjoying his food. "Yes, I was." He lied, trying to sound as confident as possible.
"Then what was I saying?"
Magnus gulped yet again. He had heard him saying something about Catarina so he tried to come up with whatever fits the situation.
"Uh... Umm.. you were saying how Catarina had helped you in becoming an immortal."
Alec gave him a cold glare and Magnus lowered his eyes, realizing that he got it wrong and was now caught as well. He didn't like the look his husband was giving him.
"I was telling you how I accidentally hurt Catarina with my magic and you said 'wow' on it. Really, Magnus! Were you even listening to me at all? Or was I just talking to myself this whole time?"
Magnus looked at his husband apologetically. "I did listen to you, Alexander. But, you were talking about the same thing for over an hour that I lost interest in the topic. I just didn't mean to upset you so I...." He trailed off, unable to complete the sentence.
"Topic!" Alec sighed and rubbed his temples. "Leave it!" He said flatly and silently got back to eating his food.
Magnus mentally cursed himself, he didn't know what was going on with him, why was he like this since morning. He reached out to grab his husband's arms but Alec shoved it away.
"Alexander, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it as it sounded. I.. I keep ruining our anniversary again and again. I'm sorry." He said while playing with the food on his plate.
Alec noticed that and sighed. He reached for his warlock's hand and held it gently. "It's okay, love. And I'm sorry too, I overreacted. I got way too excited that I presumed you would be interested in hearing about it."
"Alexander, don't say that. I am curious to know more about your powers, it's just that, my mind is not getting stable. I haven't been feeling well since this morning, and I really think it's something other than about the dream or Camille. I'm sorry, Alexander. I really didn't mean to ruin your mood or hurt you but I still keep doing it." He said, the guilt in his voice was clearly visible.
Alec took the warlock's hand, brought it near his lips, and pecked the back of his hand tenderly. "Don't feel guilty, love. Do you want to go back home? We can take the remaining food back home and eat on the couch or bed if you want while watching any of your favorite movies."
"Please!?" He tried his best not to sound desperate but failed completely.
Alec let out a deep breath and shook his head. "Why haven't you said anything before, Magnus? You keep pretending that you're enjoying it here when you're not."
"I am enjoying it here, Alexander. It's just that.."
"You didn't want to make me upset, right?"
Magnus sighed and nodded. He knew he couldn't win from his husband over this.
"Angels! Magnus! You're impossible." He leaned over and pecked him softly on the lips.
Magnus clicked his fingers and sent all the remaining food and gifts to their home. They were about to leave when both of their phones buzzed loudly. Magnus read the message and frowned.
"What's wrong?" Alec asked when he noticed the expressions on the warlock's face.
"Jia send me a message asking if I'm fine now and to be at the gard tomorrow by 4 in the evening to record our statement. What does it mean? What statement and how does she know I'm not well? Do you know anything about it?" He looked at the winged nephilim.
Alec looked at his phone and sighed. He had a similar message from Jia as well. But he now had some explaining to do to his husband. "She doesn't actually. It's... um.."
"Alexander?"
Alec sighed loudly. "Do you remember when I was gone for some business while you were changing?" Magnus nodded so he continued. "I... I actually went after Camille."
Magnus' eyes widened at that and his heart started racing badly. "What? Alexander, why? You know what she's capable of, what if something happened to you? What if she attacked you? If she would've-"
"Magnus! Mags! Calm down! You're forgetting I'm immortal now. Besides, Camille, she's dead." He confessed.
"Wait, what? How?"
"Magnus, I..um... I went after her to actually kill her only. Since the time you had told me about her return, I was planning this. I wanted her to be gone from our lives. Look, I'm sorry. I know she was your ex, you had a history with her. You must have loved her once, so this must be-"
"Alexander, stop. Yes, I might have. But not anymore. Not after how she had always treated me and what she had done. And anyways, the Clave would have given her a death sentence, after all, right? I might have a few good memories with her, but those are just memories now, if she's dead, it's for the best. I'm not going to be upset about it. So, please Alexander, don't worry about what I would think or feel, okay?"
Alec relaxed at that and nodded then kissed his warlock softly.
"I still don't get it, how am I involved in this?"
"She played with Daniel's brother's heart too and was responsible for his death. He wanted revenge on her because of it. So, when I told him about her return, we both formed a plan to kill her and end it once and for all. Catarina was in this, by the way. We obviously couldn't let Clave learn the truth, so Daniel glamoured himself as you and we informed Jia that she attacked us from behind and I didn't have any other option than to kill her. It needed to look real so..." He cleared his throat then continued. "Jia wants the statement in detail." He confessed everything to his husband but he noticed that he had a confused look on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Umm... I get it, but... who's Daniel?"
"Daniel Nightstorm."
"Sorry, whom?" He looked at the winged nephilim with confusion.
Alec gave him an ice-cold glare. "You really weren't listening to me at all. I was talking to myself the whole time like an idiot. Just leave it! I don't have the energy to explain everything to you all over again when you're not even interested in listening to me. Just leave this conversation for next time when you actually want to listen. Now just create a portal so we can go back home."
Magnus looked like a lost puppy, looking anywhere but at Alec. He really didn't mean to ruin their evening, but things were not in his favor, and judging by the tone Alec just used, he really needed to make it up to him. Because if he didn't, it would look like he didn't care which was wrong.
"Alexander, I'm sorry, I really am. My mind is not stable and I don't know what's wrong with me. I didn't mean to hurt you. I-"
"Mags, calm down, it's okay. Let's just get back home, okay?"
Magnus nodded and quickly created a portal. They stepped into it and landed in their living room. While they were stepping out, Magnus stumbled and almost fainted, when his husband's arms caught him at the right moment.
"Magnus! Are you okay? What happened?" Alec quickly helped him to sit on the couch and gave him a glass of water.
"I have no idea. This has never happened before while portaling. I feel like my body is getting weak with every passing second. This is weird."
"Come on, let's just get to bed. Just try to rest it out, you faced a lot today."
Magnus nodded and Alec helped him to change into his comfortable night suit, then they both lay down on the bed and Alec wrapped his arms and wings tightly around Magnus, making sure that his husband was comfortable. Whatever anger he had in him had vanished completely the moment his warlock fell in his arms. When he was sure that his husband had slept peacefully, he kissed him on the top of his head then closed his eyes and dozed off.
*********************************
*Few hours later*
Alec woke up to the sound of weird noises that were buzzing in his ears. He grunted and woke up, that's when he realized that the sounds were coming from his husband. He looked at him and saw that he was tossing and turning and whimpering a lot and it seemed like he was in pain. He shook him gently to wake him up.
"Magnus! Mags! Wake up, love!"
Magnus mumbled something and started whimpering again. He was curled up like a ball, hugging himself tightly.
"Love, wake up!" He shook him a little harder this time.
Magnus jolted awake and looked at his surroundings frantically. He was sweating really badly even when it was slightly cold outside.
"Magnus! Love, are you okay?"
"I... I don't know. My whole body feels like someone had beaten me really badly, Alexander. I don't understand what's happening to me. And my magic... I can't explain it!" He held on to his husband tightly and Alec's wings curled around him, taking him in a warm embrace.
"Do you want me to call Catarina? Maybe she could help?"
"Okay, just do something, anything. I don't know what's happening!"
Alec kissed his temple softly, then quickly grabbed his phone and dialed Catarina's number. Within a minute a portal opened up in their bedroom and Catarina came out of it, looking all worried.
"What's going on? Are you both okay?" She asked in a concerned voice.
"I am, but Magnus is not and we have no idea why." Alec answered while caressing the warlock who was holding on to him as tightly as possible.
Catarina walked towards them but backed off when she felt strong waves of magic hitting her with full force.
"What the!"
"Cat, what happened?" Alec asked.
"I don't know exactly. Magnus, is your magic fine? Did something happen? Because I felt really strong magic hitting me when I approached you both."
"I have no idea, Cat. Please, help me!" He almost whimpered.
"How, Magnus? I can't even come near you!"
"I don't know, but please do something." Magnus begged.
"Mags! Love, calm down!" Alec ran his hands gently on his back and looked at Catarina. "Cat, can you at least examine him from afar. He has been feeling weird since morning, but this started happening a few hours ago. Check him, please."
Catarina nodded. She focused on her magic and started scanning his full body, the magic surrounding Magnus was so strong that she had to concentrate on her magic to go through it. Once she was done her eyes went wide and she looked between both the men.
"Cat, what's wrong? Is he okay?" Alec asked.
"The hell was that!"
"What's wrong with me, Catarina?"
She looked at Alec with shock written on her face. "The energy surrounding you both, it's..." She trailed off, not sure how to put it.
"Cat, what is it?" Alec asked.
"Alec, it's exactly the same as the one on the day of your awakening, when I put the immortality rune on you, but I don't understand..." She suddenly stopped mid-sentence and looked outside the window then at Alec.
Alec saw a mixed look of anger and concern on her face and frowned. "What is it, Cat?"
She cleared her throat. "I know it's a really personal question, but, have you both had sex recently?"
Magnus' face turned red on that. "What the hell! Catarina Loss! Have you lost your mind!? How is our sex life related to it in any freaking way!" He looked at his husband who had gone completely pale. "Alexander, what is it?"
Alec looked out the window then at Catarina and gulped. "Crap! I completely forgot! Cat, please help him, I swear I forgot, and anyways, how can you expect me to resist my husband!" He tried to defend himself but in complete vain.
Magnus looked between the two people who definitely knew something in confusion. "Okay, what is going on? What are you both talking about?"
"Care to explain, Alec!" Catarina said flatly and crossed her arms.
"Uh.. um... Magnus.. actually, I.. um... I wasn't supposed to get intimate with a downworlder till full moon after my awakening, and.. um... it's full moon today, and we had sex this morning, so..." He trailed off and looked down, blaming himself for forgetting something this crucial and being responsible for the pain his husband was in right now.
Magnus looked at him in shock. "Wait, so this is happening to me because we had sex!? But, what exactly is happening to me, Alexander?"
Alec looked down and started playing with his wedding ring. "I have no idea." He said in a low voice.
Magnus looked at the winged nephilim and saw the look of guilt on his face. "Alexander, hey, don't blame yourself. You don't know, right? We'll figure it out, but don't stress yourself over it."
Catarina sighed, she knew she couldn't be mad at him either. "Sorry Alec, I'm just worried about Magnus. Don't blame yourself for it. I should've known that you both men can't keep your junks to yourself at all."
Both men's faces turned tomato red at that and they exchanged a knowing look. They know not to mess with her when she's mad or worried.
Alec cleared his throat and looked at Catarina apologetically. "Cat, there must be something in that book. We should look into that."
She nodded and waved her hands, within seconds a huge book appeared on their bed and Magnus' mouth fell open looking at that.
"What the hell! Wow! You really researched a lot, Alexander." He looked at his husband who was continuously rubbing soothing circles on his back, which was helping him a little but he didn't know how and why.
"Anything for you, love. Cat, can you check what's written on it? I hope it's nothing worse, I'll never be able to forgive myself if something happens to him."
"Sure, but before that, Alec, are you using your magic? Because I'm able to feel it and it's starting to affect my magic."
"Wait, what?" Magnus asked and looked at his husband.
"Umm.. yes, I'm trying to calm him down and relax. I can't see him like this. So,-"
"Alec! Are you crazy!" She shouted. "You know your magic is dangerous for us downworlders and you're using it on Magnus! Are you out of your mind!?"
Magnus' eyes widened at that and he looked between both of them.
"Cat! Calm down, please. I've..." He looked at Magnus then at Catarina. "I've used my magic on him before and it didn't affect him, I don't know why but it didn't, so I thought if it's helpful in this situation, I'll use it. He was in so much pain and I can't see him like that." He looked at Magnus and cupped his face from one hand. "I'm sorry, Magnus, I know I shouldn't have used my magic on you without your knowledge but you were so worked out, so much in pain that I couldn't help myself. I can't see you like this, Magnus. I know it was wrong, I shouldn't have done it, b-"
"Alexander, relax, I'm not mad, instead I'm feeling lucky that I have such a caring husband. I don't know why I'm immune to your magic, but whatever it is, we're in this together. We'll figure it out. And, thank you for being there whenever I needed you."
"I'll always be there for you, love."
Magnus smiled warmly at that and leaned in to kiss his winged nephilim, Alec responded with the same passion making the kiss deeper until they heard a loud clearing of a throat and they broke apart quickly, their faces red as a beetroot.
"You both are insatiable! No wonder this happened!" Catarina said while shaking her head in disbelief.
"Let's.. umm.. look in the book. hopefully, we'll get some answers." Alec said, trying to change the topic.
Catarina sighed and opened the book where the whole procedure was written.
"Okay, let's see what's happening to Magnus."
Once the person becomes immortal there are few precautions that have to be taken. >After performing the spell, the person has to stay away from everyone; at least for a day, and be around nature until their powers are completely awakened. > The person can't get physical/intimate with anyone till the full moon; especially with a downworlder.
If by any chance either of the above happens, go to the chapter titled "Consequences".
The three exchanged a look and Catarina quickly turned to that page. All of their eyes widened when they saw the length of the chapter. For the second precaution, there were so many downworlders mentioned that they didn't even know existed anymore. Catarina quickly opened the page where the 'Warlocks' were mentioned.
•Warlocks•
If the new angel gets intimate with a warlock when it's still a full moon, even with a kiss, the said warlock will start having an immunity towards the angel's magic, making his/her mundane blood 0.5% angelic, which will make him/her immune to any angelic weapons, including the soul sword.
If the said couple crosses the level of intercourse, the consequences are stronger and against the nature.
After 24 hours of intercourse, the said warlock will start having body pain similar to when the shadowhunter went into the awakening of his/her powers. The intensity of the pain will be really low compared to the shadowhunter's, but the warlock's powers will become ten times stronger than it was before. His/her magic will be able to merge along with the angel's, and the couple will become nearly invincible.
The three exchanged looks and Magnus held the winged nephilim's hand tightly.
"If this what I'm feeling is low, then how strong would the pain you've gone through at the time of your awakening, Alexander?"
"You don't want to know that, Magnus!" He said sheepishly.
Magnus looked at him with pure love and adoration. He still wasn't able to believe that he had someone like him in his life. He then looked at Catarina, who was still looking at the book. "Is there more, Cat?"
"Unfortunately, yes, Magnus."
The couple exchanged a look and looked at Catarina. "What is it?" Alec asked.
Every angel, whether it's original or created, possesses very strong nature's magic and heavenly powers. They are really pure and angels with silver powers are the strongest ones, they just don't possess magic, they are capable of creating new lives, hence, also known as The Creators. If a silver angel fails to follow the procedure and has intercourse with a warlock, they will change one of the main things warlocks are known for, that is, them being sterile. The warlock will no longer be sterile as they have the blood and merged magic of The Creator.
Magnus's mouth hung open at that and his eyes filled with tears. "I'm... I'm no longer sterile!" Even if he was married to a man, this was a big thing for him. For centuries he was burdened with one thing, his inability to bear children, and now that it's no longer there he didn't know how to react.
"I don't know what to say, Magnus. I'm happy and worried about you at the same time. Every warlock wants this, and now that you have it, it just feels too real to be true." Catarina said her tone clearly had a bit of sadness to it.
Magnus noticed it in no time. He knew his best friend really well. She isn't just a warlock, she's a woman too and it means more to her than him. It's obvious that she's hurt but isn't showing it.
"Catarina.." Magnus started softly, "I didn't expect something like this to happen, I know what you've gone through, how you've lived your life and now learning that my sterility is gone, it would be hard for you to-"
"Magnus, it's okay. I came to terms with it a long time ago. I'll admit that I feel sad, but I'm happier for you. Now, let me continue."
"Wait, there's more?" Alec asked.
"Yes, there is."
The angel by committing this mistake and betraying the laws of nature will be punished. But, because angels are pure and stronger than any other species, any punishment given to them is easy. Henceforth, the punishment will be given to that warlock he/she had intercourse with, as they won't be able to see others in pain.
"No! No, please, not to Magnus. Cat, please check if there's a way it can be avoided. Please!" Alec said desperately, his heart was racing badly and his wings started flipping.
"Alexander, angel, calm down. Whatever it'll be, I'll face it. I don't care what happens to me until you are safe." Magnus said and held the winged nephilim's hand tightly.
"Magnus, are you crazy, no. I won't let you."
"Alexa-"
"Will you both stop! There's more, so let's see first what it is then think about it." Catarina said, frustrated with their constant PDA, but she knew that they didn't care about others watching them.
The couple exchanged a look and nodded in agreement.
A warlock identifying features include their warlock marks and their sterility. Their possession and expertise in different types of magic comes next. There are many warlocks who are stronger than the others. But everything has its limits. Be it a warlock mark or their powers. As a consequence of the angel's mistake and as mentioned before their powers will become ten times stronger. The said warlock will gain a new warlock mark with unknown powers in them. They'll know the powers of it with time.
This new warlock mark will be a set of wings similar to that of the angel's, the only difference being they'll be stronger and the color of them will be determined by the abilities of the warlock. When the process of gaining wings will start, the amount of pain will increase five times, which is still low from what the former shadowhunter had faced.
This said warlock will now have ten times stronger powers, his/her sterility gone, and a pair of wings whose powers they will discover over time. They will be way too stronger than any warlock should be and they won't be able to control their powers easily. And the angel won't be able to help him/her, because no one can bear this strong force of powers and the warlock will suffer his/her whole life because of the angel's mistake.
The three of them had a look of shock written on their faces when Catarina was finished reading that.
"I don't understand, those are the consequences? Me becoming more powerful and gaining a new warlock mark? Is that it?" Magnus said, making Alec and Catarina exchange a worried look.
"Magnus, you don't know how strong it would be!" Catarina said.
"Magnus, love, I'm sorry, it's all be-"
Before Alec could complete, Magnus let out a loud cry of pain and held himself tightly. Alec's eyes widened at that and he wrapped Magnus in his arms tightly.
"Cat, get out of this room, now!"
"But, Alec, Magnus!? If he needs something..-
"I've been through this, Cat. I know what happens. It's dangerous for you to be here. Wait in the living room if you want, but please leave the room."
Catarina nodded then she left. Alec quickly wrapped his arms and wings around Magnus tightly and Magnus buried his face in Alec's shoulder, letting out all the screams there while gripping his night T-shirt tightly.
Around an hour later, when Magnus' screams were lowered and the body pain was gone, he looked at the winged nephilim with complete respect who had helped him to go through it and control his magic, else he didn't know what would have happened.
"Alexander, thank you."
"Are you okay, love?"
"Yes, apart from my shoulders feeling heavy, yes."
"Crap! You need to get up for the next part."
Magnus obliged without thinking, he knew his husband had gone through the same and knows what he's doing.
Once they both had stood up and were standing in the middle of the room, Alec held his warlock's hand tightly and squeezed them. Not long after, a pair of 8 foot long appendages appeared beside Magnus, which were similar to the winged nephilim's. Alec looked at them with his silver eyes filled with awe and Magnus gasped. The wings were huge and their color was similar to Magnus' true cat eyes. Each feather was black at the base, merging into shades of gold.
"They're beautiful!" Alec breathed out, his wings fluttered with excitement, and stroked the gold ones gently.
Magnus looked at his new wings with a mix of shock and surprise on his face. His expressions became curious when they curled slightly when the silver one's stroked it. He didn't realize that his glamor had disappeared.
Alec looked at him and smiled. "How are you feeling?"
"Like myself, but a little more full of powers, I don't know how to put into words but I don't feel much different."
Alec walked closer to him and wrapped his arms around his waist. "I guess whoever had written it had no idea how strong my beautiful husband is. That he's not just 'any' warlock, but the strongest and most powerful warlock."
"Alexander, I really don't get it, I don't see them as any kind of 'consequences', my sterility is gone, I've gained new powers and a mark, and however strong it would be, I'm always ready to face it."
"You know what I've been told, Magnus?"
"What?" He asked curiously.
"That Angels work in weird ways. Maybe they didn't want anyone else to be more powerful than them, so they put it as consequences so that others will avoid doing it in fear of hurting their loved ones and they will always remain superior."
"Hmm... point. But still, I don't know how I'm going to cope up with these wings and my increased powers!"
"We'll work on it together, Magnus. I know that you're strong enough to face it and I'm with you in this."
"It means a lot to me, Alexander. Thank you." He looked into his silver eyes from his gold ones with pure love shining in them.
Alec's silver eyes wandered around his husband's wings, then into his eyes and he smiled softly. He leaned in, nosed his face up, and brushed his lips with his husband's. When Magnus responded by wrapping his fingers around the back of his neck and the back of his hair, he tightened his grip around his waist and deepened the kiss. Their wings fluttered and wrapped around each other, blending into each other with the perfect mix of silver and gold.
When they broke the kiss they looked into each other's eyes with a warm smile on their faces. With this new day, they knew that a new journey was awaiting them. They had an eternity to spend together now, with each new day bringing some new surprises and heartbreaks, happiness and sadness, love and loss, friends and enemies. They knew that they were about to go on a long journey filled with adventures.
"I love you, Magnus."
"I love you too, Alexander."

Part 2/?
Read Part 1
Summary: The next morning Cordelia asks you to the greenhouse. You’re actually enjoying your time with her for once in a long time, when you get a call from Billie.
a/n: this chapter is a bit on the long side
A knock at your door woke you up the next morning. You had spent the night talking to Billie on the phone and hadn't fallen sleep until nearly 3 am.
You groaned as you rubbed your eyes, "Y/n?" You heard Cordelia's soft voice through the door. You quickly curled back up into the covers, not wanting to speak to her.
You heard the door slowly creak open and the soft click of the latch as she closed it back, the quiet creaks of the floorboard getting louder as she neared you.
Picturing the worst, you tried to stay calm, look as peaceful and in as deep a sleep as possible when you felt her soft hands brush your hair from your face, and her soft lips kiss your temple.
She ran her hands through your hair, "Y/n? Wake up honey." you shifted slightly, pretending to have just woken up. You took your time as your rubbed your eyes and sat up, watching as she took a few steps back and kept her distance.
You looked up at her for the first time and noticed the bags under her eyes were more prominent. Her face was bare and her hair still a little tousled from her sleep. "What time is it?" Your voice was scratchy as you spoke.
She cleared her throat, "Nearly 8. The rest of the girls are still asleep. I thought we'd take advantage of the morning and do something out in the greenhouse?" She sounded hopefully, her voice soft and a higher pitch than usual.
You weren't sure if she was pulling your leg, or if she really did have remorse for the way she had treated you lately. You were taken aback by the suggestion, if you weren't honest. Cordelia hadn't spoken more than a sentence to you in the past few weeks until last night, let alone suggesting you actually do something together.
She chewed her bottom lip, shifting the weight of her feet as she awaited your answer. Your voice laced in confusion, you agreed. "Uh, sure."
She grinned a little too big at your response and your face showed obvious confusion. You weren't one to hide your facial expressions easily. However, she simply ignored it.
"I'll be in the kitchen, making coffee. Meet me when you're ready, please." She didn't wait for your response this time, simple turning around and hurriedly exiting your room. The soft click of the lock leaving you sat in your bed, tired and confused. You didn't even like coffee.
***
You made your way down the stairs after fixing yourself up. You had thrown on a dress and cardigan, remembering the times that Cordelia would tease you and say you dressed like a teacher or librarian. Maybe things really would be okay between the two of you? You were almost hopeful.
You stopped in the bathroom downstairs, quickly combing your fingers through your hair again and making sure you looked presentable before heading towards the kitchen, hearing the quiet clink of Cordelia's spoon as it stirred her coffee. As you rounded the corner she met your face with a smile, "Y/n! I made you tea." She smiled, her face blushed pink as she held a cup out towards you.
You couldn't hide the fact that you were surprised. I mean, she had said that she was going to make coffee, and since when did she put in so much effort towards you? You smiled back and grabbed the cup, taking a sip. Your favorite tea, green matcha. "It's delicious." You said before taking another larger sip.
"Are you hungry?" Cordelia asked, shifting the weight between her feet as she had done earlier in your room. "I don't usually eat when I first wake up. I'm fine with just this tea, thank you though." You continued sipping from the glass.
"I had a piece of toast." She informed you. This was getting awkward. "Should we go out to the green house now?" You asked and you could practically see the relief on her face as she nodded.
Once you both made it inside, Cordelia immediately started cleaning and gathering supplies, watering plants, the whole shebang. She was always sort of a neat freak.
"Do you, um, need help?" You asked, not knowing what to do. You hadn't been to the greenhouse in awhile and she had asked you down like she had planned something to do.
"Um, just give me one moment. I should've done this earlier. I don't know what I was thinking." She mumbled the last sentence and you were amused as you continued watching her speed around the place.
You ended up sitting on a stool and nearly fell asleep when you felt a hand on your shoulder. "I'm so sorry that took so long. I'm ready now, come here." Cordelia walked away to the back of the green house so you followed suit.
When you arrived, she had laid out multiple ingredients on a cleared table. You had no idea what she was going to do. "So..." She bit her lip as she turned to you. "Remember that spell Misty told you about?" She asked you and your eyes brightened up, you'd always wanted to try that after Misty told you about it.
"Is that what we're going to do?" You asked hopeful and Cordelia nodded. You practically bounced in excitement and that made Cordelia grin even harder.
As she explained the steps, you helped craft the paste, handing her ingredients to put in the blender and laughing with each other over the silliest things. At one point you had accidentally flung a piece of something at Cordelia and she retaliated by throwing some back at you and what followed was completely and utterly childish, but you loved it.
You had missed this. It being just you and Cordelia, bonding over magic and spells and just enjoying each other's company. Getting to see the Cordelia you knew, not Cordelia the Supreme, but your Cordelia. It was a sight for sore eyes.
"Okay y/n, this next part is important!" She looked at you with wide eyes as you nodded. "You have to stay extremely focused for it to work, do you understand?" You nodded again. "Okay, now put your hands on top of each other like this," She held her arms out and put one hand atop the other, you copied her.
"Now put your hands over the plant and close your eyes. Picture the sunlight beaming down and growing this plant from the roots up. Connect with the energy and put your all into it. Make it grow into a plant as beautiful as you." She added the last part after you had closed your eyes and you could feel your cheeks burn bright pink.
You did as you were told and concentrated on the task, wanting to prove to Cordelia that you still had it in you to be powerful. As you imagined the sunlight beaming down, drowning the leaves of the dead plant in sunlight and the leaves basking in it, growing strong and bright green, your phone began to ring inside your pocket.
Your eyes immediately sprung open, looking to Cordelia as she pulled it from your pocket, going to turn it off completely, when you saw who was calling you. Billie. You gulped as the seconds went by. You had to make a decision. Did you really want to ignore Billie? This moment with Cordelia could possibly be saved if you would just make. your. decision.
"I'm so sorry Cordelia this is important," You rushed the words from your mouth as you snatched your phone from her hands and sprinted from the greenhouse, not looking back in fear of Cordelia's reaction. You hit accept just before the ringing stopped. "Billie, Hi!" You said, out of breath as you shut the greenhouse door and leaned back against it, breathing heavily.
"Good morning sweetheart," Your heart fluttered at her voice. God you loved her voice. "Mornin," You responded. "Did I interrupt something? You sound of breath, y/n." She asked, her tone changing from her usual sultry tone to one you couldn't quite make out.
"No! No, no you didn't." You stumbled on your words as they came out. "I-i was just watering some stuff in the greenhouse and I- Ya know what it doesn't matter." You laughed softly and there a moment of pause. Silence. Had you officially scared Billie off? You barely had a day before you already made her run. Good going y/n.
"Well..." She dragged out the L, "Could I pick you up?" She asked and your breath caught in your throat. Billie. Pick you up. From here. With Cordelia being in the same vicinity? Fuck.
"I, um, to do- to do what?" You stuttered more on your words and heard Billie chuckle softly. "Well usually when one asks a question like that... it's insinuated that it's a date, is it not?" She retorts and you can't believe your ears. Billie Dean Howard just asked you on a date. A date!
"Oh yes, of course. I-i would love to." You say, your cheeks pink and your smile wide. You swore you could practically hear her smirk through the phone. "I'll be there in 30.” And she hung up. Fuck. Thirty minutes.
FUCK. Cordelia! You completely forgot about Cordelia. You swung open the door to the greenhouse and sprinted back to where you had left Cordelia, only to find the entire green house empty, and the supplies all put away.
Where the hell did she go? "Cordelia?" You called out, pacing around the greenhouse hoping you were just blind and had missed her, but alas, not a peep from the supreme.
You went back inside the academy, checking the kitchen, living room, her office. Nowhere. You finally arrived at her bedroom door and you knocked softly. "Cordelia?" You called out and the door swung open, Cordelia was sitting on her bed, glasses perched on her nose and a book in hand. How the hell did she get here so fast? Did she transmutate?
"Why'd you leave?" You asked nervously as Cordelia looked up from her book. "No worries y/n. You clearly have other things to attend to." She immediately looked back down to her book and you sighed. Of course you had fucked everything up.
You didn't bother saying anything else, you just left her room and heard the door shut behind you as soon as your foot was beyond the frame, making you jump. Damn that woman.
You immediately hurried to your room, throwing on your prettiest dress and tossing your cardigan to the floor. You didn't need to look like a librarian today. You fixed your hair in the mirror then ran down the steps.
You worried your bottom lip between your teeth as you waited in the living room for Billie to arrive. Your mind and heart both racing. What even where you and Cordelia at this point? It was obvious that you weren't together anymore, wasn't it?
She didn't speak to you for weeks! She practically ignored you. She put you off more times than you could count and you hadn't even slept in her bed for over a month. That screams "over"...doesn't it?
God she barely even looked at you! She practically slammed the door in your face... well, your back. You had no idea what was going on in her brain anymore, so you shook the thoughts from your head. You were going to enjoy this date with Billie.
