Quick Count Pilkada 2024: Real-Time Insights and How to Stay Updated
Tumblr media
The Pilkada (regional elections) 2024 in Indonesia has garnered widespread attention, with quick counts serving as a popular method for preliminary results. Quick counts provide near-real-time insights based on sample data from polling stations, offering a snapshot of election outcomes before official tallies are completed.
Understanding Quick Counts
Quick counts differ from exit polls as they rely on actual vote data from polling stations rather than interviews with voters. Accredited survey institutions conduct these counts, ensuring a high level of accuracy and transparency. For example, Litbang Kompas reported quick count results with 42% of data processed for West Java, a critical province in this election

Tools for Monitoring Results
The KPU’s (General Elections Commission) Real Count system is another tool for real-time election updates. Sirekap, the KPU’s digital tool, is utilized to verify and publish results directly from polling stations. Although past technical challenges have been noted, the system has been improved for the 2024 elections, ensuring greater reliability
For those interested in detailed live updates, major media outlets such as Kompas, CNN Indonesia, and Tempo provide continuous coverage. Links to their platforms offer accessible, up-to-date quick count information across various regions
Key Takeaways
Transparency and Speed: Quick counts are crucial for early result indications while waiting for KPU’s official announcements.
Digital Integration: Tools like Sirekap enhance result dissemination but demand vigilant monitoring to address technical issues.
Media Involvement: Trusted outlets play a pivotal role in distributing reliable quick count data.
Quick Count Pilkada 2024: Comprehensive Insights and Monitoring Tools
The 2024 Pilkada, Indonesia’s regional elections, has drawn significant public and political attention. With millions of voters across provinces, quick count results have become an essential tool for gauging preliminary election outcomes. These early indicators offer both candidates and the public a glimpse into potential results while waiting for the official count by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

What Is Quick Count and Why Is It Important?
Quick counts are data-driven methods to project election results based on samples taken from polling stations. They are distinct from exit polls, which rely on interviews with voters after casting their ballots. Quick counts utilize official data directly from the polling stations, making them highly reliable for early projections.
Tumblr media
Monitoring Real Count Results
While quick counts are widely regarded for speed, the KPU’s Real Count system provides official results. The Sistem Informasi Rekapitulasi (Sirekap), KPU’s digital tool, is used to collect and publish vote counts directly from polling stations. This system improves transparency, allowing the public to access real-time data. However, Sirekap has faced criticism for technical glitches in previous elections. Ahead of the 2024 Pilkada, KPU has committed to enhancing the system’s accuracy and reliability
How to Access Real Count Data:
Visit the KPU’s official portal or mobile application.
Navigate through province-specific links to find detailed results.
The interface allows citizens to track results by district and region.
Live Quick Count Updates
Major news outlets play a pivotal role in distributing quick count results to the public. Reputable platforms like Kompas, Tempo, and CNN Indonesia provide real-time updates through their websites and social media channels. For example:
Tempo offers step-by-step guides for checking real count updates and detailed reporting from the field.
Kompas publishes quick count results with regular updates, ensuring transparency in data processing
CNN Indonesia streams live quick counts from four prominent survey institutions, consolidating data for easier public access

Challenges and Criticisms of Quick Counts
Although quick counts are celebrated for their speed and efficiency, they are not without challenges. Critics often point to:
Sample Size and Coverage: The accuracy depends on the breadth and randomness of samples taken from polling stations.
Technical Glitches: Digital tools like Sirekap have previously faced synchronization issues, causing delays in publishing data.
Public Misinterpretation: Quick counts are preliminary and should not be mistaken for official results. Misunderstandings may lead to premature declarations of victory by candidates.
To address these concerns, institutions conducting quick counts follow strict accreditation and quality control protocols. The KPU also works to educate voters about the distinction between quick counts and official real counts
Key Takeaways for Pilkada 2024
Quick Count Insights: They provide fast, reliable snapshots of election trends, helping stakeholders prepare for potential outcomes.
Real Count Accuracy: The KPU’s improved digital tools aim to ensure credibility and transparency in the official tally.
Public Engagement: Real-time updates from trusted news outlets allow citizens to stay informed and involved in the electoral process.

When Mount Ruang in Indonesia underwent multiple explosive eruptions last week, volcanic gases were flung so high they reached the atmosphere’s second layer, tens of thousands of feet above ground.
Ruang’s eruptions ejected a massive ash plume and sent some volcanic gases more than 65,000 feet into the air, according to satellite estimates – about 25,000 feet higher than a commercial airplane will typically fly.
The eruption’s potential impacts to weather and climate are starting to come into focus, even as the danger posed by the volcano persists and evacuations continue.
It’s possible for volcanoes to have a short-term impact on the climate – including global temperature cooling – due to the gases they inject high into the upper atmosphere. But Mount Ruang’s influence on the climate will likely be minimal, according to Greg Huey, the chair of Georgia Tech’s School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
And the day-to-day weather conditions near Mount Ruang – things like temperature, clouds and rain – probably won’t be influenced by the volcano for long, Huey told CNN.
Mount Ruang, a 2,400-foot (725-meter) stratovolcano on Ruang Island in Indonesia’s North Sulawesi province, has erupted at least seven times since Tuesday night, the country’s volcanology agency said. Stratovolcanoes can produce explosive eruptions because their cone shape allows gas to build up, according to volcanologists.

Naik Kelas, Melihat Dunia
Jadi, harapan warga Palestin4 tinggal suara mayoritas (orang biasa, kita semua).
Anggurin semua komen pro-Isra3L biar komen mereka tenggelam.
Your boycott is important. Your voice to push politicians to cut ties with IsraëL is important.
We will win this together.

LiDAR reveals vast ancient Maya city and complex networks hidden in Mexico's Campeche forest
Tumblr media
- By Nuadox Crew -
Archaeologists have uncovered thousands of ancient Maya structures and a large city named Valeriana in Campeche, Mexico, using aerial LiDAR technology to penetrate dense forest cover.
The discovery, which spans around 47 square miles, includes urban and rural settlements with reservoirs, temples, and roads, resembling other major Maya cities.
Previously overlooked due to its inaccessibility, Campeche is now recognized as a vital part of the Maya Lowlands, revealing complex urban planning and extensive connectivity among Maya cities.
The findings challenge the view of Maya cities as isolated entities, instead suggesting a vast, interconnected network.
Experts consider LiDAR a transformative tool, reshaping understanding of ancient Maya civilization and its environmental adaptation, organization, and conservation needs.

Tumblr media
(CNN) — Jack Latham was on a mission to photograph farms in Vietnam — not the country’s sprawling plantations or rice terraces but its “click farms.”
Last year, the British photographer spent a month in the capital Hanoi documenting some of the shadowy enterprises that help clients artificially boost online traffic and social media engagement in the hope of manipulating algorithms and user perceptions.
The resulting images, which feature in his new book “Beggar’s Honey,” provide rare insight into the workshops that hire low-paid workers to cultivate likes, comments and shares for businesses and individuals globally.
“When most people are on social media, they want nothing but attention — they’re begging for it,” Latham said in a phone interview, explaining his book’s title.
“With social media, our attention is a product for advertisers and marketers.”
Tumblr media
In the 2000s, the growing popularity of social media sites — including Facebook and Twitter, now called X — created a new market for well-curated digital profiles, with companies and brands vying to maximize visibility and influence.
Though it is unclear when click farms began proliferating, tech experts warned about “virtual gang masters” operating them from low-income countries as early as 2007.
In the following decades, click farms exploded in number — particularly in Asia, where they can be found across India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, and beyond.
Regulations have often failed to keep pace: While some countries, like China, have attempted to crack down on operations (the China Advertising Association banned the use of click farms for commercial gain in 2020), they continue to flourish around the continent, especially in places where low labor and electricity costs make it affordable to power hundreds of devices simultaneously.
‘Like Silicon Valley startups’
Latham’s project took him to five click farms in Vietnam.
(The click farmers he hoped to photograph in Hong Kong “got cold feet,” he said, and pandemic-related travel restrictions dashed his plans to document the practice in mainland China).
On the outskirts of Hanoi, Latham visited workshops operating from residential properties and hotels.
Some had a traditional setup with hundreds of manually operated phones, while others used a newer, compact method called “box farming” — a phrase used by the click farmers Latham visited — where several phones, without screens and batteries, are wired together and linked to a computer interface.
Tumblr media
Latham said one of the click farms he visited was a family-run business, though the others appeared more like a tech companies.
Most workers were in their 20s and 30s, he added.
“They all looked like Silicon Valley startups,” he said. “There was a tremendous amount of hardware … whole walls of phones.”
Some of Latham’s photos depict — albeit anonymously — workers tasked with harvesting clicks.
In one image, a man is seen stationed amid a sea of gadgets in what appears to be a lonely and monotonous task.
“It only takes one person to control large amounts of phones,” Latham said. “One person can very quickly (do the work of) 10,000. It’s both solitary and crowded.”
At the farms Lathan visited, individuals were usually in charge of a particular social media platforms.
For instance, one “farmer” would be responsible for mass posting and commenting on Facebook accounts, or setting up YouTube platforms where they post and watch videos on loop.
The photographer added that TikTok is now the most popular platform at the click farms he visited.
Tumblr media
The click farmers Latham spoke to mostly advertised their services online for less than one cent per click, view or interaction.
And despite the fraudulent nature of their tasks, they seemed to treat it like just another job, the photographer said.
‘There was an understanding they were just providing a service,” he added. “There wasn’t a shadiness. What they’re offering is shortcuts.”
Deceptive perception
Across its 134 pages, “Beggar’s Honey” includes a collection of abstract photographs — some seductive, others contemplative — depicting videos that appeared on Latham’s TikTok feed.
He included them in the book to represent the kind of content he saw being boosted by click farms.
But many of his photos focus on the hardware used to manipulate social media —webs of wires, phones and computers.
“A lot of my work is about conspiracies,” Latham said. ” Trying to ‘document the machines used to spread disinformation’ is the tagline of the project. The bigger picture is often the thing we don’t see.”
Tumblr media
Click farms around the world are also used to amplify political messages and spread disinformation during elections.
In 2016, Cambodia’s then-prime minister Hun Sen was accused of buying Facebook friends and likes, which according to the BBC he denied, while shadowy operations in North Macedonia were found to have spread pro-Donald Trump posts and articles during that year’s US presidential election.
While researching, Latham said he found that algorithms — a topic of his previous book, “Latent Bloom” — often recommended videos that he said got increasingly “extreme” with each click.
“If you only digest a diet of that, it’s a matter of time you become diabetically conspiratorial,” he said.
“The spreading of disinformation is the worst thing. It happens in your pocket, not newspapers, and it’s terrifying that it’s tailored to your kind of neurosis.”
Hoping to raise awareness of the phenomenon and its dangers, Latham is planning to exhibit his own home version of a click farm — a small box with several phones attached to a computer interface — at the 2024 Images Vevey Festival in Switzerland.
He bought the gadget in Vietnam for the equivalent of about $1,000 and has occasionally experimented with it on his social media accounts.
On Instagram, Latham’s photos usually attract anywhere from a few dozen to couple hundred likes.
But when he deployed his personal click farm to announce his latest book, the post generated more than 6,600 likes.
The photographer wants people to realize that there’s more to what they see on social media — and that metrics aren’t a measurement of authenticity.
“When people are better equipped with knowledge of how things work, they can make more informed decisions,” he said.
Tumblr media
“Beggar’s Honey,” co-published by Here Press and Images Vevey, is available now.

Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari who mediated Kosovo-Serbia talks from 2005 to 2007 passed away on Monday in Helsinki, Finland, the CMI, his Peace Foundation, confirmed. Ahtisaari was 86.
Sauli Niinisto, President of Finland, on X (formerly Twitter) expressed sadness when receiving the news. “Martti Ahtisaari believed in people, civilization and goodness, and he lived a great, remarkable life,” Niinisto said.
Ahtisaari was appointed in 2005 as the United Nations special envoy for talks on the final status of Kosovo, seven years after he had played a key role in trying to bring an end to hostilities there.
After no results in the talks between Serbian and Kosovo’s ethnic Albanian officials, he recommended ‘supervised independence’ for Kosovo.
The so-called Ahtisaari plan served as the basis for Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, and the reforms it prescribed were pursued in the following months by Kosovo’s government.
However the plan was never put up for a vote at UN Security Council because of Russia’s announcement that it would use its veto, as a permanent member.
In 1999, during NATO air strikes campaign against Yugoslav forces, Ahtisaari served as mediator for the European Union in the attempt to persuade then Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to accept NATO’s plan for an end to hostilities.
He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his work in Indonesia, Kosovo and other countries. Ahtisaari then told CNN that peacemaking is always possible and is something which makes him feel proud. “This has sought to work in Indonesia and Kosovo,” Ahtisaari told CNN. In 2005, he oversaw the end of a three-decade conflict between the Indonesian government and Free Aceh Movement rebels that killed some 15,000 people.
Miroslav Lajcak, the EU envoy on the Kosovo- Serbia dialogue, expressed his sadness on Ahtisaari’s passing.
“A highly respected giant of foreign policy, I immensely valued his knowledge, vision and assessments. He once famously said peace is a question of will. This remains more true than ever,” Lajcak said on ‘X’.
Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani said the people of Kosovo mourn the passing of Ahtisaari. “He stood shoulder to shoulder with us as we penned our story as a sovereign, democratic, and independent state. His visionary legacy will forever live in the memory of the people of Kosovo,” Osmani said..
Ahtisaari was President of Finland from 1994 to 2000. Prior to that he had a distinguished career at the United Nations and the Finnish Foreign Ministry.
In 2000, he founded the Crisis Management Initiative, CMI, an independent non-governmental organisation, to continue his legacy of conflict resolution. CMI is today known as CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation.
