I think it would make complete sense if Big was a Capybara.

1 He's well... big. Capybara's are the largest rodent species.

2 He seems to be chill with everyone. Like a Capybara.

3 He has an affinity to water, and you can't go 5 google image searches before you spot a capybara in water.

4 It'd be really fun to see a bunch of Orange imagery in his design, like his fishing bobber.

5 Sega already uses odd animals for their characters, like making the main character a hedgehog or making an echidna the guardian of a plot device rock (and be the last of his kind). So it'd be nice to see some Capybara appreciation that isn't just a driving test instructor in a short story.

I might draw him as a capybara more than I draw him as a cat, I dunno.

John Green's The Anthropocene Reviewed and Porter Robinson's Nurture have exactly the same vibe. I've been thinking about this for so long. Both are about finding beauty around you and falling in love with the world; both have this soft touch grass mentality; both do this blend of like real things you can do and touch and feel, and deep emotions without hiding said emotions behind metaphors that take the reader/listener effort to decipher. They both feel very personal. Also they came out like, less than a month apart??

1am ramble about zelda twilight princess? 1am ramble about zelda twilight princess.

When i first played the game in 2009 i had what was - of course - a baby lesbian crush on zelda, and i loved midna to no ends too. I had no words for this feeling yet (I was vaguely aware that gay people existed, and not aware at all their experience could apply to me).

And for this very reason, replaying the game has been a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't even call it nostalgia, because I see nostalgia as constricting, when here, whatever this is... it's freeing. I already said how the game was imo still holding after 17 years. It's a marvel of level design, it's a finished product, etc. Everything's so smooth you don't even realize you're smashing buttons.

And on top of that, what i understand now is that the narrative is structured around unconditional love and trust. Link's love for every other kid from his village. Midna's love for the twili, and as time goes on, for Link and Zelda. Zelda's trust and love for Midna. And so on. You bet it's easy to interpret whatever is going on between zelda and midna as gay if you are so inclined. They DO love each other. It's not ~representation~ stricto sensu. But it's such an honest and pure expression of love that you cannot ignore it's there, however you interpret it. It is the essence of love and humanity. Yeah i think honesty is the word. Everyone cares so much, everyone loves so much, in spite or because of the looming twilight pervading the kingdom. The threat is so great that everything else is pure light laid bare. The Eden questline from ffxiv had the same effect on me.

Replaying this game now that i'm old enough to understand things on a deeper level is like treating the 12 year old in me that never died. It's showing her all that she couldn't see before, and first and foremost how love can be between two women, and how beautiful it can be, and in general, that love is what sustains us.
