I wish more diehard Captain America fans realized and acknowledged that Steve Rogers' backstory is a eugenist wet dream.

First of all, Steve wasn't picked because he was special, he was picked cause he was disabled and willing to throw his life away for others. The Captain America movie reinforced this multiple times by mentioning how Steve tried to enlist but was rejected due to his chronic illnesses. Do you know how bad your disability has to be for THE UNITED STATES MILITARY to reject you during a time where people of color, women and children were enlisted???? And even when he lied to get they were thinking about kicking him out until this moment.

Where he straight up proves that he is willing and able to put other's lives above his own. And most importantly that he knows nothing about proper protocol cause if we get down to it, the Super Soldiers Program was borderline if not straight up illegal which is why they were so sneaky about it. And it was still in the testing phase.

In America there's a certain order in which dangerous stuff is tested to make sure it's cleared for the public (Aka white men).

It's a person of color, usually black.

And when Steve was on his press tour to hype up the super serum one of the selling points of it was literally that it could cure your disability and make you The White Supremacy Standard™! And it was shown through Bucky that even if it didn't cure you it would make it possible for you to have these highly invasive and painful procedures that would basically make it so it's like you're not disabled at all! Whereas a normal person wouldn't be able to undergo these procedures cause they'd literally die.

The only time they acknowledged this in the cannon was when Isaiah Bradley was talking to Sam Wilson. This is why I'm so glad he took up the mantle of Captain America without some sort of whatever that made him enhanced because every Captain America that came before him was a fucking eugenist wet dream and unlike them he's a human who rose to the ocation and he's actually standing up for the little guy.
