Harry and Meghan's Archewell Foundation is banned from raising or spending money after it is deemed DELINQUENT for failing to pay fees and submit records | Daily Mail Online
We always suspected that Archewell was dodgy as heck! And that the real purpose of the "charity" was to help fund H&M's lifestyle
A bunch of anons are asking me about the latest report to Archewell and what I think soâŚ
As I wrote in my âWhat a Februaryâ post, the launch of the new Sussex website was a rebranding effort. I theorized then that Meghan was phasing Archewell out because it flopped as a brand and at the time, mid-February, Archewell had just failed its trademark application for the fifth and final time. So the writing was very much on the wall that Archewell is/was going away and that they were spinning up a new Sussex organization as its replacement.
Now Iâm even more confident that Archewell may eventually be phased out because itâs even more public that there are serious problems behind Archewell, problems that affect its ability to function as a nonprofit charity. Itâs only a matter of time. I expect this is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to their financial and asset management; remember, Meghan filed for bankruptcy once (before Harry) and that is something that sticks around for a good long while. Declaring bankruptcy isnât always bad thing and there are people who do turn their lives around and get their finances back on track, but when you have a history of financial mismanagement and now things like this are happening? Youâre delinquent on payments and reports, there are allegations of fraud and mismanagement, and your leadership at a previous charity was investigated by another countryâs oversight board?
Where thereâs smoke, thereâs fire. Or, I guess, in the Sussexesâs case: A shiny new website marks the spot to dig.
The bottom line is that Archewell has problems, the watchdogs are watching, itâs getting tough out there, and the Sussexes are squirming. You can tell by their statement, which is classic Sussex deflection: itâs the AGâs fault their check wasnât processed in time.
Which is actually pretty revelatory on its own. That they couldnât (or didnât) send the check until just before the deadline suggests they donât have liquid assets in Archewell or an expense account for basic operating expenses and they were scrambling to find the $200 to put in the account so the check didnât bounce. So despite having $2 million in charitable donations received (or whatever the number is), none of that money is liquid or earmarked for basic operations - itâs all tied up elsewhere and thatâs just not good. It leads to questions, and scrutiny, like âwhere is the money really going?â or âwhoâs paying for the staff if you canât pay your annual registration fee?â
I bet if the right person dug into that, theyâd uncover quite a few skeletons that the Sussexes want to stay buried so they can win (a one-sided) War of the Waleses against William and Kate.

Okay we are about 13 days out from the US election ending (yes ending, Nov 5th is the last day to vote but early voting is happening now)
if you haven't already please think about your voting plan and consider voting early.
There are great websites like
where you can check to see how you can vote in your state, your registration, early voting etc.
Consider also signing up to volunteer if you have already voted or are anxious.
You can also donate to state parties in several of the swing states (or competitive states)

Or if you don't have the time consider just reaching out to family or friends to see what their voting plan is and seeing if you can persuade them to vote blue at the top of the ticket all the way down ballot.
A lot of people focus on doomerism and that's not helpful for you or anyone else. if you are nervous about polls than do what you can to control your own situation and work on turning out as many people as you know.
Even in states that are blood red there are local or state candidates who might just make the difference in your community to make things better.

Hey Jenn! Just curious: What are some of the best conferences youâve been to? What made them so good?
When I was a "young and hungry" agent (literally), I went to EVERY conference, because I was actively building my list and I needed the money and food! I am now old and tired, and I don't need the buffet, so I have stricter rules about what I will agree to.
-- I will only go to Children's Book specific conferences -- the ones that are "general interest" and happen to have some kids book people are the worst. It's just not a priority for the organizers and they are invariably attracting people who likewise don't prioritize kids books. And since I don't give a fig about grownup books... well, it's not a match.
-- I max out at 4 a year, and will only go to conferences where they pay an honorarium, travel food and lodging etc -- they are A LOT of work, and the idea that I would schlep to the back of beyond on my own dime is LAUGHABLE
-- I will only go to conferences in places I *want* to go, either because they are beautiful or cool, or because I have clients/friends/family there. I can't do virtual conferences, I'm zoomed out.
So all that being said, probably this answer is going to sound like cheating or something, but really, for children's book writing, the BEST conference I have ever been to is the one my agency puts on twice a year, the Big Sur Children's Writer's Conference. It started in, yep, Big Sur, and has now grown so big that the winter one is in a larger venue in Monterey CA, and there is an East Coast version in Cape Cod. (In fact, I'm leaving for Big Sur Cape Cod tomorrow, excited!)
It's obviously too late to get in for THIS one, but the next California one is February 2024 and the registration opens in August, keep your eyes peeled for it, here's more info.
Anyway, what makes it good is that instead of being a bunch of people giving speeches all weekend, it is small workshops throughout the weekend where attendees get hands-on feedback from their mentors (who might be an agent, editor, or successful author), like mini-critique groups, and lots of time for revising, in beautiful locations -- I have to tell you, it sounds cheesy but I have seen MIRACLES happen from Friday to Sunday, it's really wild how much this dedicated time to dig into the book helps writers revise. It's a kind of alchemy. There are always great conversations and I invariably end the weekend feeling like my OWN creative well is filled up - and I'm not even one of the writers! Really, truly a great experience, and I do NOT get paid to say that, I promise you.
Other than that -- I have discovered that for MYSELF, I am not great with Virtual conferences -- and I will only go to Children's Book specific conferences -- the ones that are "general interest" and happen to have some kids book people are the worst. It's just not a priority for the organizers and they are invariably attracting people who likewise don't prioritize kids books. And since I don't give a fig about grownup books... well, it's not a match.
Other kids book specific ones I have liked -- I had a great time at the Highlights Foundation doing a program (again, small, intimate, beautiful location) -- and I had been invited to the Book Barn in Austin for a similar type program which I also think would have been awesome but then the pandemic happened so it had to switch to virtual. :( But they do have great programming - I just have not been there in person so IDK what that would have been like (probably great!)
I like the big SCBWI conferences, NY and LA, mostly because of friends and clients being there. I used to always attend NE-SCBWI because a ton of my friends and clients go and it's fun to see everyone, but I haven't been invited since the Pando. (And I'm sure there are other great regional SCBWI conferences - I just can't remember them all! Because again, it's been years since there were big in-person ones I went to!)
When I was a "young and hungry" agent (literally), I went to EVERY conference, because I was actively building my list and I needed the money and food! I am now old and tired, and I don't need the buffet, so I have stricter rules about what I will agree to.

Marriage
Article 1. Marriage is a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life. It is the foundation of the family and an inviolable social institution whose nature, consequences, and incidents are governed by law and not subject to stipulation, except that marriage settlements may fix the property relations during the marriage within the limits provided by this Code.
G.R. No. 191936, June 01, 2016
VIRGINIA D. CALIMAG, Petitioner, v. HEIRS OF SILVESTRA N. MACAPAZ, REPRESENTED BY ANASTACIO P. MACAPAZ, JR., Respondents
FACTS: â˘Virginia D. Calimag co-owned the property, the subject matter of this case, with Silvestra N. Macapaz. â˘Anastacio P. Macapaz, Jr. and Alicia Macapaz-Ritua are the children of Silvestraâs brother, Anastacio Macapaz, Sr. and Fidela O. Poblete Vda. de Macapaz. â˘Transfer Certificate of Title (TCT) No. 183088 duly registered in the names of the petitioner Calimag and Silvestra. In said certificate of title, appearing as Entry No. 02671 is an annotation of an Adverse Claim of Fidela asserting rights and interests over a portion of the said property â˘On November 11, 2002, Silvestra died without issue. On July 7, 2005, TCT No. 183088 was cancelled and a new certificate of title, TCT No. 221466,7 was issued in the name of the petitioner by virtue of a Deed of Sale dated January 18, 2005 whereby Silvestra allegedly sold her 99-sq-m portion to the petitioner â˘On September 16, 2005, Fidela passed away. â˘On December 15, 2005, Anastacio, Jr. filed a criminal complaint for two counts of falsification of public documents. However, said criminal charges were eventually dismissed. Then, the respondents, asserting that they are the heirs of Silvestra, instituted the action for Annulment of Deed of Sale and Cancellation of TCT No. 221466 with Damages against the petitioner and the Register of Deeds of Makati City. â˘Petitioner averred that the respondents have no legal capacity to institute said civil action on the ground that they are illegitimate children of Anastacio, Sr. As such, they have no right over Silvestraâs estate pursuant to Article 992 of the Civil Code which prohibits illegitimate children from inheriting intestate from the legitimate children and relatives of their father and mother. After trial, RTC ruled in favor of the respondents, which the CA affirmed the RTC decision. Both RTC and CA ruled that the cancellation of TCT No. 183088 and the issuance of TCT No. 221466 in the name of the petitioner were obtained through forgery. As to the legal capacity of the respondents, both courts ruled that the best proof of marriage between man and wife is a marriage contract. In this case, a certificate of marriage as well as a copy of the marriage contract were duly submitted in evidence by the respondents to prove that they are legal heirs of Silvestra and thus have legal capacity to institute the action.
ISSUE:
Whether or not respondents are legal heirs of Silvestra
RULING:
Court favors respondents. Petition is bereft of merit. Court finds that the respondentsâ certificate of live births were duly executed with the provision of the law respecting the registration of birth of illegitimate child. The fact that only the signature of Fidela appear on said documents is of no moment because Fidela only signed as the declarant or informant of the respondentsâ fact of birth as legitimate children. Also, Anastacio Sr. and Fidela had openly cohabited as husband and wife (Trinidad v CA) for a number of years as a result of which they had 2 children (respondents). Art 220 of the Civil Code is the governing provision herein which states that âin case of doubt, all presumptions favor solidarity of the family. Thus, every intendment of law or facts leans toward the validity of marriage, the indissolubility of the marriage bonds, the legitimacy of the children, the community property during marriage, the authority of parents over their children, and the validity of the defense for any member of the family in case of unlawful aggression.â
