Even if the dsmp is momentarily put in the back of my mind, whenever I do start to think abt it again I am ASTOUNDED by how genuinely amazing it was. I have genuinely never found anything as interesting, emotional, and captivating as the dsmp and the characters in it. The fact that those characters were real, fleshed out people at one point is what made is so unique and beautiful, and nothing else will top that. It was such an incredible thing and till this day I smile when I think abt it
#btw c!ranboo made me write this#i love them#they’ll forever be one of my favorite characters#but just all the characters in general and the story#even c!dream despite my hate for actual cc dream#they were so REAL and amazing#I won’t stand for any dsmp slander from old dsmp fans#GTFOOOO LOSER#It was BEAUTIFUL#unless you’re criticizing it for genuine good reasons. So me fr#but if ur just saying its cringe IDC GTFOOO#anyways. I love those guys#I love the dsmp sm#dsmp

⟡₊ ⊹WELCOME TO OUR BLOG⟡₊ ⊹
Hi!!
about this blog/us:
our ao3
our twt
our carrd
our strawpage (for anons/drawings) (will only post these on twt)
we use the tag #dsmpr and #dsmp reimagined for our fics/art/info posts!
roo🐇:
im part of a duo where we are in the middle of writing an entire dsmp rewrite (called D.S.M.P. Reimagined, or DSMPR for short), from before the beginning and after the end. it will most likely be just me on this blog as kat is terminally offline. we post every friday!
Kat🐈⬛: I am the second half of this duo! We also have an Editor but he is more offline than I am—thankyou Quezz for your diligent work though you will never see this—I don't use any social media whatsoever so this blog will pretty much be run solely by Roo. I'll pitch in to answer any questions we get about our fan-fiction work, though, so expect some appearances from me. I'm a massive c!Wilbur fan and quite enjoy c!Dream's villainy. I could talk for hours about how much c!Technoblade isn't an Anarchist whatsoever and how deeply flawed his ideology is, but instead of doing that here I am writing that into D.S.M.P.R.! I hope everyone who reads our work enjoys it, or if you don't, please do criticize it as much as you see fit—everything is appreciated equally.
more about our dsmp rewrite:
dsmp reimagined is a series of fics focusing on re-writing the entire canon of the dream smp, starting and ending before and after the events of it (which are of our own design and completely non-canon, we will not be delving into smplive or any other smp with the same characters in any capacity). this is NOT an au, but a retelling with several elements of canon altered, outright removed, or expanded upon.
our main goal is to tell a more grounded and realistic version of the dsmp's story, while still keeping the charm and humour that made it so special. we want to do justice to the serious themes and ideas that the dsmp presented and attempted to convey, but ultimately failed to with the proper respect and tact necessary.
these fics WILL be violent, they will be uncomfortable, they will not pull its punches and it will, ultimately, attempt to rectify the mistakes of the dsmp, tap into the lost potential of many of its characters, and provide an alternative for fans who wish to engage with the media but do not want to, or cannot, watch all of the archived livestreams.
our fic(s):
334 Days (Completed)
Three Hundred and Thirty Four Days is a mildly canon divergent retelling of the exile arc. it follows tommy as he spirals and becomes isolated by dream, and explores his relationship with community, family and religion. it is basically a character study as tommy loses more and more hope, similar to the canon story, except this one takes place over a span of a year and delves deeper into his psyche.
main themes: isolation, family, religion, betrayal, grief
characters: tommy, dream, tubbo, quackity, phil, wilbur (past/memories), ghostbur, fundy, niki, ranboo
main relationships: tommy/dream, tommy/tubbo, tommy/wilbur, niki/wilbur
75k words
Welcome Home, Theseus (Updating)
Welcome Home, Theseus is a retelling of post-exile to The Disc Saga Finale, covering The Butcher Army, exile recovery, Doomsday and more! this is a multiple point-of-view fic which has tommy and tubbo as the leads, followed by technoblade, niki, quackity and more!
main themes: betrayal, reconciliation, recovery
characters: tommy, dream, tubbo, quackity, phil, wilbur (past/memories), ghostbur, fundy, niki, ranboo, jack
main relationships: tommy & tubbo, tommy & techno, tommy & dream, niki/wilbur, niki & fundy,

been brainrotting a concept lately but I have no one else to talk about it so you have to endure my rambling
c!sunrise duo(??) (c!techno and c!niki) centric fic feat. my extremely specific headcanon that cniki is a werewolf.
techno, aided by the voices and completely forgetting every other part of his being, is convinced he is an absolute bloodthirsty monster unworthy of love. this is mainly because of how he rampages in battle and is driven to spill as much blood as possible in these times.
Eventually, the syndicate learns that niki is a werewolf; during a full moon, she too rampages (possibly the syndicate finds out through her killing a few dogs and/or cows at the commune during this time?) and is completely bloodthirsty. Now, techno is forced to see his own behavior in a new light and change how he talks about himself, because obviously niki isn't some kind of unlovable monster just because extraneous factors cause her to be unnecessarily violent.
On the flip side, niki goes through a similar arc; she sees her lycanthropy as something to be ashamed of and hide no matter what. she's been hiding this grand secret for years, never telling anyone for the fear that they might abandon her or see her as some kind of monster; the way that every one else has treated techno has only reinforced this idea that they'd all hate her if she revealed what she truly is (it also doesnt help that stories of a "wolf man" that needs to be hunted killing animals and occasionally attacking people have been surfacing). she's grown a hatred of herself and what she is, seeing herself as uncontrollable, wild, and a blight to the smp. However, after the syndicate find out and accept her unconditionally, she starts healing from hating herself.
they help her learn how to control the lycanthropy. niki and techno of course learn to accept themselves together, both coming to the conclusion that if one isn't a bloodthirsty monster for being forced into a murderous rampage, then the other can't be either.
basically just a fic about learning to accept yourself for others and also not being so critical of your own flaws, because your friends might have the exact same flaws.
ofc this has a ton of sunrise duo, but it can also have a lot of emduo moments (especially when it gets to trying to force techno to see himself differently) and a lot of c!(whatever the duo name for ranboo and niki is) moments, because you could definitely fit cranboo's enderwalk into the same category as techno's violence and niki's lycanthropy 👍
anyways I'm not proofreading this have fun
Anon, no pressure but this is such a fun concept and I always need more Syndicate in my life, so if you were to write this I would totally read it

techno walking dream around in a leash
everyone else: 👁👄👁
hello i am back with more questions :)
- does punz ever find dream? what about sam/quackity? - also, if punz does find him, and tries to convince dream to come back, what will be dream's reaction? - what about The Plan™ - does techno have lima sydrome? - what does dream's daily routine look like after the prison escape? - would techno make dream use the revive book on ranboo? what does niki think?
thank you for answering all my asks <3<3<3
Ah, hello again :D it's nice to see u in my inbox again :>
Answers under the cut, and yes it'd be quite the sight if anyone saw that (remembers the Dream shorts vid where Techno just had him on a leash for Some Reason...)
C!Punz does find him eventually, yes! They track c!Techno to the trophy room and wait for him to leave before breaking in. He's always been an excellent tracker and Techno starts to get a little complacent and less on edge since they haven't shown their face around since that initial visit. They get inside and it's clear neither he nor c!Dream are expecting what they see.
C!Quackity grows less concerned about Dream and the revive book as his main goal of reviving c!Schlatt quickly deteriorated into a simple lust for Dream's blood and suffering. C!Sam, on the other hand, grows much more concerned and looks day and night for him, at least for a while. Weeks pass and everyone is tired of looking, and soon enough so is Sam. The search party is basically called off and many people are left to their own devices. There's an air of the lingering threat that Dream may return, but people more or less get on with their lives. Especially Quackity, who's doing Big Things in Las Nevadas :)
Dream's reaction upon seeing Punz is great confusion, a little fear, and some relief and excitement. Techno said this place was completely safe and no one would find them. That was clearly a lie. But, it's Punz! Punz is his friend! His greatest ally! He's very happy, hugging them and smiling widely. Then, the fear bubbles up and he wonders what Techno would think. Probably not too happy.
And when Punz is insistent that they leave right that minute because this isn't a safe place, this is no better than the prison, Dream resolutely refutes. This place is much better than the prison! He gets good food, warm clothes, a comfy bed, and Techno loves him! Punz doesn't agree. He says they have to return to The Plan asap! Except, by then, as Dream has talked with Techno and explained why he did all he did, Techno poked a million different holes in his logic until he couldn't argue for it anymore. All The Plan got him was bruised and beaten and weak and alone. Techno was very convincing. Dream couldn't justify it anymore, the ends didn't justify the means anymore. Punz is... lost. They're unsure. They set it aside for a moment and instead emphasize that Dream is still very much trapped. He still has no real freedom. And doesn't he want to see his friends? Doesn't he want to get revenge? Dream... honestly hadn't thought about them all that much. He's been quite occupied. But Punz isn't taking no for an answer. Dream's at a critical crossroad. Should he leave and get back his freedom but risk losing everythimg he'd built with Techno? Or should he stay where he's found love and a home and comfort but then have to deal with his adamant ally?
So, had to look that up, but I think Lima Syndrome would describe Techno quite well! It would happen very gradually, but ultimately the connection would be surface level. Deep connections do not come easy to Techno. It took him centuries to be such good friends with Phil. Dream probably won't live long enough for their relationship to become a true, meaningful bond. He says he loves Dream, at first just to placate him because Dream certainly says it first. But then he thinks he means it. He's not really sure what that entails.
The first days in the trophy room are spent mostly exploring for him. Pushing at all the walls to search for any amount of give, though he finds none of course. There's little to do but eat, sleep, and write as Techno generously filled a chest with books and quills. Techno provided him with a lot more comforts than the prison ever had. It has working bathing appliances, a soft bed with blankets and pillows, and ways to cook the food in the storage. But, it's quiet. Quieter than the prison ever was. There's no one around, not until Techno returns. He also spends a lot of time thinking, about everything and nothing. Then, as Dream grows more and more attached to Techno as he's the only person he ever sees now, he does things that he thinks will make Techno happy, that will make him come by more often. He cooks food and takes up knitting (his first creations are... not great. His hands are shaky and his fingers have lost nearly all dexterity. Nonetheless, he tries his best) and just about anything for Techno's attention. To his credit, it works :)
Though the Syndicate did lose a member, Techno didn't think of him as all that valuable. However, things are Happening at Las Nevadas that Techno simply can't ignore, so he does get Dream to use the revive book. Niki, among others that Ranboo is close to, ask questions. Techno just shrugs. He has no idea why Dream would revive Ranboo of all people. Phil knows, he had agreed it was a good course of action, and ultimately was the one to convince Techno. Las Nevadas is getting more concerning with each passing day. They have to do something about it.
#dnb#dreamnoblade#stagedduo#dreblr#tw stockholm syndrome#bubble answers#I'm just as torn as dream honestly XD#the first option is ripe for angst but the second means I can push my drunznoblade agenda...#dnb would obviously still be the main focus but option number two opens up a lot of potential story and dynamics#let me know what u guys think!#Into the Fire AU

hai!! im just curious on what your take is on c!ranboos enderwalk. thats a bit vague actually . like i mean what did you view it as? cus i know some people see it as morally grey, a different part of them entirely, etc. sorry if that doesnt make sense i just havent heard many people's opinion on it lol
ok this is a big and difficult question because ultimately we don’t have a conclusive answer in canon . so i’m gonna synthesize how i interpret what we do know.
i firmly believe that ranboo’s enderwalk state is, well, just ranboo. i think it’s a matter of what memories he has access to at a given point in time, how he acts on those memories, and it’s not nearly as black and white and ‘enderwalking’ and ‘not’.
there are things he knows, and doesn’t know that he knows, things he’s done that he doesn’t remember, and critically, he has relationships with people that he does not know about. it’s not as simple as enderwalking off-stream and not onstream, because we have examples of him acting on information he doesn’t usually have onstream and he has forgotten things he did while fully aware and not under duress (the shulker box deal with foolish, which he didn’t remember later when asked about it during the lessons stream).
it’s implied in some places that it’s a cyclical thing (in the arg, one of the pages refers to ‘the enderwalkers’ as ‘circadian’ (referring to circadian rhythms/sleep cycles)<-i think this is still sort of speculation but people tested it with the font layered over the crossed out section and it fit, arg also deals strongly with the clock motif, clock ticking and stopwatch as teasers for the arg, etc) though its also able to be triggered manually through strong emotions, pain, and fear. (splash water bottle, dream smile). Z claims uncertainly that it may be genetic, and their writings imply that ranboo isn't the only one though there's no suggestions as to where these other enderwalkers may be.

it oftentime feels like while he's enderwalking he has access to more memories--though it might simply be different memories. he for sure has access to more information about his past (eg. he remembers ender entirely sometimes, while most of the times we see him on screen he's in the process of relearning it, or is at least much more subtle about knowing it.) At times he acts on fully subconscious memories, like when he built the cobblestone end city over l'manhole without realizing exactly what it was or why.
what i think is most important to this understanding though, is that he is SO consistent in what he wants and believes. the things that change are who he knows and associates with, and what he remembers. but ultimately, he has the same goal. he just acts on it differently. people not sides, stopping conflict, being a mediator, ‘one happy family’. these ideas are something he consistently believes in all the time. it’s the context that changes, whether he’s working with dream on the community house, or with tommy and tubbo to kill dream, or wilbur and hitting on 16, he is willing to take extreme measures to pursue these goals.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: i don’t believe the purple eyes enderwalk trope is strictly diegetic. we know for a fact that ranboo is visibly indistinguishable while enderwalking and not, as we have seen him ‘enderwalk’ on other people’s streams, and he has interacted with people ‘in’ and ‘out’ of the state without them recognizing any difference. (cphil, cfoolish, and cawesamdude as some notable examples)
TLDR: It's just Ranboo, with more, or different, or all of his memories.
(link is to a clip of c!ranboo saying as much based on the information he had at the time)

Hey can I pls know more about dnd!Puffy? And like what all went down with her and Dream? How does their meeting again and then later conversation go?
Also, is the syndicate a proper think in this au? And just in general, what're Ranboo and Niki like? Is Steve the polar bear here?
Wow that was an almost completely random assortment of questions, I guess I'm just curious about a lot of things to do with this au :>
Also I just really like the artic commune(my first and most watched pov is Techno's) so I can't help but ask about them :)
Honestly I love random questions like this because I fucking LOVE worldbuilding and character building like YES PLEASE— my Dungeon Master brain goes wild with this so it helps c:
Anyways onto the answers!
1. Puffy is a firbolg Swashbuckler Rogue! Firbolgs are basically half giants and the little thing I have kinda always done with my firbolgs is to make them have more sheep/cow features. Like Caduceus from Critical role

Like this! Also that means she’s like 7 feet tall bc Firbolg are massive.
Anyways— Puffy is Dream’s biological mom in this au- because firbolgs can live to be up to 500 years old! So the math tracks tbh. But yeah she basically raised him on the docks and the ocean, rarely staying in each kingdom for long. When Dream got old enough however he wanted to stay in the Kinoko kingdom because he wanted to help King George (this was before everything) and Puffy let him- she was always supportive of him no matter what.
And when everything happened she was honestly the last one that left him.
Puffy tried to find reasoning for what he was doing- she did. But the more unhinged and more impulsive he got she was obviously worried for her son- and after him breaking his allegiance with George and Sapnap he kinda- went off the deep end.
But he went to her because that’s his mother. And Dream honestly was kinda a mama’s boy back then.
But they got into a big argument when he tried to convince her that the reason why he was doing this was to be beneficial for the continent and that the pain and tragedy would be worth it but she didn’t listen.
He didn’t hurt his mom physically, but he left afterwards and puffy was crushed.
And she joined the final battle to try and stop him- but she didn’t want to hurt him.
She actually went to the prison once to ask if she could see Dream, but Sam told her that he didn’t want to see her- and Puffy believed it and stopped trying.
Fast forward to the current events- Puffy is still a captain, she has no allegiance to anyone and prefers to just make sure the waters are safe. When she firsts sees Dream she doesn’t believe it because he looks drastically different than the last time she saw him/ and she knew something was wrong.
And she heard these new friends (and Fundy) call him Pyre, so she knew something happened.
So she plays it up! Saying that her and Pyre were old friends and that’s why she knew him.
When they’re in private though it’s a lot different. Puffy is worried- concerned on what happened and who did this to him but Dream is too nervous and even stubborn to say otherwise. It takes a bit for him to open up and they do get into an argument one time, him yelling at her and saying why didn’t she visit or at least try and send him something.
But then Puffy tells him that she thought that he said he didn’t want to see her.
And it both clicks for them that Sam was lying to both of them.
After that and the initial shock of the party realizing that’s Dream- things.. simmer. Him and his mom are okayish- they’re rocky but Dream is trying. And Puffy honestly kinda adopts Cala and Spooky since she sees that Cala is trying to help him be better, despite what he’s done and did prior. She hopes it’s a good influence but is worried for all of them. But she still loves her son so so much.
-
2. The syndicate is a thing! But it’s very.. secretive. Like secret secret. Nobody knows about the syndicate, only the monarchs do due to their ways of sabotaging some events as well as going against their laws. But no one knows who’s running it. The Syndicate is a secret faction that works on the belief that there shouldn’t be a monarch system and that these different beliefs aren’t healthy- especially with the restriction of wild magic. So they plan to dismantle it as best as they can and as quietly as they can. Honestly the vibe I get from them is like the Dark Brotherhood from the Elder Scrolls series if that makes sense?
Arctic commune exists though! In the far north is called the “Icebreaker’s Land” which is filled with tundra and Arctic. It’s one of the lands that isn’t run by any kingdom due to how dangerous it is as well as how rural it is. But people still live there! It’s like one of the only options if you don’t want to live in a kingdom, next to the Badlands.
-
3. Niki and Ranboo my beloveds! for Niki, she is a halfling Alchemist Artificer and an Arcane Archer Fighter! Niki was a close supporter of Wilbur back then and they were pretty close friends- but she felt that something was up with him right at the end of the war. And when the war finally ended and he asked her to officially work under his kingdom again- she declined and left. Shes very- conflicted in this au, since she doesn’t know what fully went on with Wilbur but she knows something doesn’t add up. When she’s with the syndicate though it honestly helps her a lot and heals her- but she has her moments. She brings this air of authority around her even though she is a halfling, and Cala honestly looks up to her a lot when they meet.
For Ranboo, Ranboo is a tiefling Aberrant Mind Sorcerer! Ranboo has— been through a lot in this au. He really was only a teenager when the war started and he didn’t realize what was going on.
Dream encountered Ranboo and convinced him to help him- and it resulted in Ranboo being a sorcerer and hating his powers immensely.
Any time Ranboo uses his powers for a long enough time he goes into a blank state, similar to his endwerwalk state actually! And Ranboo was used a lot to help with the battle until Tommy and Tubbo managed to capture him and snap him out of it.
He’s been- coping ever since the war. He’s an adult now- he had a kid with Tubbo and they sadly became distant and they have shared custody. But he’s still unstable, on edge because no one can fix what happened to him except Dream himself. And he does NOT want to see Dream.
It… takes him a while for him to get used to him but he doesn’t forgive what Dream had done to him. He just wants to feel normal but it’s hard- and the course of the au he grows into getting used to his powers after so long.
-
4. Yes Steve the bear is there and he helps a lot, patrolling the commune in general and just being a good emotional support animal for anyone that needs it :3
—
IM SO SORRY THESE ARE SO LONG DHDSJSJ but yes please enjoy this and I hope this answers what it needs to- again I love answering questions like this since I legit planned this au like a dnd campaign HDJDJDKD

If Las Nevadas fall I'll cry. I'll feel like shit even worse than when L'Manberg was destroyed.
I don't think the Las Nevadas crew deserve any of this shit being pulled on them. They didn't deserve Quackity playing with them to make them enter the nation and now, when they finally decided to join and maybe even heal, they don't deserve to be boxed like that.
They don't deserve to be called the villains for trying to have a home, they don't deserve to be threatened left and right for defending the place they're trying to live. That land was theirs. No one else claimed shit there.
Tubbo was spying on them and then tried to cover it. They built the outpost and the only thing Las Nevadas did was broke some windows and place dirt and stone. THERE WERE TOTEMS OF UNDYING IN THE CHEST AND LAS NEVADAS LEFT IT THERE, because they just wanted the outpost to leave and didn't want to make it something big.
Then, came the first wall and the lava gate. Las Nevadas response? A Toll Both. That's it. A gate that didn't even had a gate. THE OUTPOST HAS A FUCKING GHAST CANNON, but Las Nevadas is the dangerous party here, ain't they?
Quackity, for more shitty his actions has been lately, also is a product of what the server did to him. He tried to be peaceful before, when he had nothing, and all that came was pain. He learnt, from the big leaders, that you have to manipulate your people to get them on your side. He learnt that, in order to be peaceful, you need the power to do so.
So, that's what he did! He manipulated people to join his country and, after that? Quackity really hadn't done anything bad. Hell, he even gave them a choice. You can say anything you want, but that choice choices as genuine. Quackity never wanted to hire an army, he wanted people that could improve his nation and could be his citizens. Even to Fundy, who is legally obligated to fight, he extended the possibility of a choice.
And they all stayed, because guess what? That's the only thing giving their purpose rn. Maybe if Quackity was the one to put this idea in their minds, its true. They know that. Purpled came in bc the UFO was destroyed, but, really, did he had a purpose beforehand? Foolish just built and built, now he has a reason to why do that. And Fundy, the official left behind man, finally has a place where people look at him and care. Even Quackity, he is there bc thats his lifeboat. He originally made this country for El Rapids, but they all left him. So, he was desperate and used his words to get new people. And he meant it when he said he would always protect the ones who protect him.
They are all there bc the server failed them. They wouldn't be manipulated if the server had tried to heal them.
Tubbo going "you disappeared!" as if he also didn't fly off to build Snowchester. The only difference is that Tubbo was never abandoned. Ranboo can pretend to keep his moral high ground as much as he wants, but his friendships all lie in blood. He points everyone's flaws but not his own. He stands by the fight and says "its their fault, I am not involved" when the pure action to not do anything is his fault.
Las Nevadas has nothing. They only have each other and that piece of land. That's their last chance to be happy in their eyes.
Tubbo and Ranboo have Snowchester far away and out of danger, they have Michael who is also out of danger. They have nukes. Ranboo is allied with Philza and Technoblade, the guys who caused Doomsday. They have no positions to look at 5 people armed only with the netherite in their bodies and say "They are dangerous and deserve to be boxed and threatened".
Quackity doesn't even want to fight!! He was ready to give up at their plot of land and just build around it. He allowed Tubbo to spy on them, as long as the big stone was taken down. Quackity did anything to set peace, because he thought he finally had power to do so.
But he was wrong, he is the most powerless of that situation.
Las Nevadas was trying to heal in themselves, and they don't deserve to have a nuke pointed to their faces because someone else said they didn't had the rights to do so.

I really don't want Las Nevadas to go out with a bang, both literally and metaphorically. Las Nevadas is something that c!Quackity built on his own through his abandonment, trauma and loneliness. He has yet to succeed in making a competent country. But, for now he has something flashy..
A bright city that looks like paradise but is much more power hungry the more you dig into his circle of control. Control he's never had before- he's the main threat now even though he hasn't done anything! All that he's done now to look like a threat are done to people within his circle and Dream, no one else really knows what Las Nevadas is looking to achieve. Even if they're reaching so hard to make it look like a threat. (Low-key shade toward c!Tubbo and c!Ranboo but I digress)
Q's tactics are words first then violence, framing himself as a victim or as the "forced to do this" defense.
So...
Las Nevadas will go out with a whimper. Everyone in Quackitys circle leaves, realizing his manipulation or discovering his cruelty towards others. Quackity is alone, nobody is on his side. Nobody wants to truly destroy the country, it's just there and nobody really goes to it. Which is a total slap to the face, he wanted this country to be the talk of the smp not a forgotten country like El Rapids.
Possibly in a last ditch effort to win back his found family members he does something drastic that scorns his reputation, making it even worse somehow. Having no choice but to go back to the worst of the worst, other people who were bigger threats back in the SMP's infancy with no results, or results that fit his narrative, leading to his demise by their hands or someone just pitying Quackity.
TLDR; Please for the love of God don't let Techno kill him.

The Beeduo Meta
So, c!beeduo is unimaginably hard to analyse for the same reason the entire SMP is hard to analyse, especially in post-Doomsday DSMP when a lot more Offscreen Time became relevant: there are different backfilling assumptions. This is also complicated by the fact that it’s, well, a dynamic, and this fandom has an unimaginably hard time dealing with dynamics, because of “show me the clip” analysis being the norm. This kind of emphasis can be unsuited to dynamic analysis, because individual interactions cannot be taken as by themselves definitive of a dynamic without examining the framework they exist within.
My aim with this post is to establish the patterns we see in c!Ranboo and c!Tubbo’s interactions, to examine each successive one with the context of established precedent in mind, and to assert the thing I have known since February 2021: the framework assumed by the fandom and the framework that actually exists and makes sense to exist (regardless of authorial intent!) are incongruous, to put it lightly.
Will be dropping character tags from now on, but obviously all c! and /rp
Disclaimer also that this is very much coming from a c!Ranboo main – I am trying to do c!Tubbo as much justice as I can but being a boober is going to influence how I come at this, pretty obviously
Ranboo will be referred to with it/its pronouns in a couple places throughout, a) for clarity and b) because I want to
Under a readmore because it’s unimaginably fucking long there is a TL;DR at the bottom
Beeduo starts with imbalanced expectations because of the situation Ranboo shows up into and how Ranboo interacts w/ situations he considers high risk. In New L’Manberg, Ranboo quickly becomes functionally the only one in Tubbo's corner in several important respects. They are genuine friends, dgmw, and at this point it hasn't quite spiraled, but from the start the established dynamic is Ranboo thinking he has to care for Tubbo bc no one else will, and Tubbo ending up with Ranboo being the only one who really appears to respect him as president and stand by his side. Even before the cabinet actually has tensions in it, this is a suspected thing, which is evidenced in the manner in which the cabinet’s dynamics deteriorate as New L’Manberg wears on
Even before this deterioration, this setup is immediately extremely high stakes for Ranboo. One of their first interactions, while Ranboo is still calling Tubbo honorifics uncertainly (which Ranboo doesn't even do generally man is still throwing spaghetti at the wall in terms of how to interact with him), is Ranboo having to talk a tripping-balls Tubbo off a cliff edge while he's standing there high and rambling. Stakes of this kind are not immediately damning, but they can be something that complicates matters if handled poorly. They will be handled poorly.
This precariousness is also immediately dangerous for Tubbo, because Ranboo is a yes man. It knows it needs to comply, or appear to, to maintain its safety and autonomy. In other words, this is a tendency to partial duplicity and disingeniety in the interest of one’s own safety. Ranboo’s apparent alignment with anyone or anything cannot be assumed to be exclusive or even genuine. At this point he genuinely does think the best of Tubbo and his decision making, but this does not last, bc Ranboo takes ppl on good faith and gets disappointed.
As Ranboo befriends like 30 enemies of the state and is also repeatedly reminded of the danger he faces (the Butcher Army, the armor thing, "be loyal"), the stakes only get higher, especially as Tubbo gets more and more unpopular. This culminates in Ranboo’s statement on Doomsday about how he's literally expecting to be executed. This Is Indicative of the stakes he has been and continues to be living under.
Tubbo, meanwhile, has had it told to his face with receipts that Ranboo is a traitor... and immediately enters copium central, blaming it on Ranboo's memory issues. This is setting out a pattern that will continue all the way to Tubbo absolutely refusing to implicate Ranboo in Tommy’s death and beyond – Tubbo cannot consider Ranboo to have the capacity to be a threat. This will be bad for both of them.
For now we go into Snowchester. It is important to note Ranboo is actively afraid of Tubbo at this point. The urgency in his mind ebbs some by the time they get married, but at this point he is actively considering Tubbo a more-than-latent threat. The tower scene happens, which is a continuation of Tubbo being ableist to Ranboo, this time to the point of trying to experimentally cure its memory issues against its wishes – people will say Ranboo said yes technically, and it did, but again remember: Ranboo is a yes man, and it is residually afraid of what Tubbo might do to himself or to Ranboo if it missteps. Consent given under threat is not consent, and it is extremely indicative of what Ranboo actually feels about this happening from his initial resistance, his attempts to weasel out of the procedure/leave early throughout, and his reaction after. In true fashion of a yes man who is trying not to set off alarm bells while keeping his head, he is resistant without openly refusing throughout. To be clear: this is not Tubbo intentionally violating Ranboo's consent (nor are any of the other ensuing experiments and/or proposals). This is their heldover power dynamic. Tubbo is not evil or malicious or anything – the two of them just have a fucked set of expectations, and that set of expectations is not going to improve, because neither of them have the framework to challenge it. Even if Ranboo recognizes something is wrong on a conscious level (which he refuses to as part of the strat), he will not acknowledge it, because of aforementioned tendencies, and Tubbo will not recognize something is wrong, because Tubbo does not have the healthiest ideas abt individual consent and personhood in general, because when in any of DSMP history has anyone shown Tubbo that as a priority? In fact, What Tubbo Thinks about a situation has been repeatedly dismissed, and at this point he has long learned this. To the Joker Tubbo this is just a normal interaction, and he continues to see Ranboo as someone who is at least mostly reliably in his corner, and at least mostly reliably his friend (especially after Exile fucked up his relationship with Tommy), so he has no reason to believe this would be a problem. Bringing this up as an issue is a threat to the stability of their relationship and the surrounding circumstances, which is not tenable; Tubbo has been looking for stability this whole time and is not interested in losing it again, and Ranboo is staking a lot of self-convinced morality on the fact that he's being good to Tubbo technically, and also is still extremely afraid of what Tubbo might do if he isn't there to catch him.
(Literally catch him! There is a scene where Tubbo jumps off a roof shouting for Ranboo to catch him, which idk if cc!Tubbo thought he was in character for, but cc!Ranboo definitely was. You do not react with off-trailing closed-off genuine fear and worry to your friend maybe doing a clown in video games. I know my little guy’s voice that was c!Ranboo I know it was.)
In the absence of being able to unpack the problem, they go for the next best solution to this threat of losing stability, which is to codify that stability by getting married. Michael is part of this. We never got a deeply in character discussion for why they decided to adopt Michael, which leaves us with the interaction where Tubbo is (jokingly?) threatening to “commit adultery,” and Ranboo replies that he can’t because “Michael is our son, Michael is our adopted son." This is evidently news to Tubbo – unsurprisingly, because this is the first time Michael is referred to as anything more than a pet.
Again, absolutely do not get me wrong – both of beeduo are genuinely affectionate for and extremely attached to Michael (Ranboo has so much sentiment and love and kindness in his hearts). The aforementioned scene is also dubiously canon at best – I only mention it at all because the essence of it is consistent with the previous established dynamic and with how it keeps going. They care, and it’s absolutely ridiculous to pretend they don’t, but Michael’s ultimate importance outside the (again, very extant) sentimental aspect is as a prop in the game of house these morons are playing because they are so so so afraid of losing everything – in Tubbo's case, of losing everything again, and in Ranboo's case, of failing to be there for Tubbo and prevent whatever Tubbo does.
Including with the nukes! I didn’t forget about the nuke scene! We’re talking about the nuke scene!!
For those who do not remember the nuke scene, a summary: it takes place shortly after the silo’s inception, before the marriage. Tubbo, obviously jumpy and nervous, asks a visiting Ranboo out of the blue if he wants to see smth secret, and says he’ll just stress Ranboo out to make him forget it afterward. Ranboo, to this offer, says no, he would rather not be intentionally triggered into situational memory loss. This was, however, not an actual offer, as Tubbo ignores him and leads him into the silo anyway.
Tubbo’s literal world destroying weapons bolster the stakes I’ve mentioned earlier that Ranboo perceives in this dynamic; Ranboo, trying to hang on to what could become an extremely dangerous complicating factor, goes to write it down and Tubbo tells him to put the book away. When Ranboo hesitates, Tubbo threatens him. Tubbo is counting on Ranboo’s memory loss here to be able to trust him, after all, as he has before and as he will again.
In fact, this is relevant in the literal next arc beeduo have relevance, which is outpost arc.
I've gone off abt Ranboo's ideology 40 million times and I'll go off abt it more; for Ranboo to function safely he needs an environment where he does not feel surveilled/scrutinized, where he is not subject to others' whims, and where he is not expected to be specifically and exclusively allegiant. See earlier discussion of his yes-man tendencies – he doesn’t want to be that way! These are character flaws and he knows it! But he must keep yes-manning for the sake of surviving in a society that will not give him the ability to breathe!! Ranboo is a mf anarchist for a reason he needs his agency!!!
And you will notice this is not raising green flags for his dynamic w/ Tubbo. Outside of the implicit coercion elements, Ranboo has actual positive motivations to align with Tubbo: he shares Tubbo's desire for peace and stability, and he feels genuinely sentimental and affectionate to Tubbo. Both of them want the same things, because wanting to have a peaceful happy life is a generally appealing goal, and they want to have it together, because they’re friends and care about each other. Unfortunately, they have a radically different understanding of most everything about how to get there, including in regards to personhood. Including what it means to value someone. What it means to be happy. What it means to love someone.
Ranboo does not want to confront this, but outpost-burger arc beeduo is where this conflict makes him. This is the arc where it is made absolutely unambiguous that Ranboo and Tubbo have a dynamic where neither can love the other like the other loves him, because they have fundamentally philosophically different understandings of what that even means. "Maybe he built those walls to protect me" KILLING ME WOULD HURT LESS, RANBOOLIVE
(While we are here, and I am getting a glass of water to calm down, re: the love point: the romanticity, platonicity, queerplatonicity, etc. of it is not the relevant part the point is that it's philosophically in com fucking patible. Are we clear. Are we clear this is not relevant discourse. Good. Okay)
Ranboo is suffering increasing confusion and confabulation and stress as the arc goes on, almost certainly bc he is again in a political situation; he makes explicit that this is another instance of it "happening again", like he did at the worst parts of his spirals irt his situation in New L’Manberg. Tubbo is not the only factor in this; Ranboo has complicated dynamics w/ Quackity and the cookieduo (Ranboo and Slime) arc is also relevant, but Tubbo is Ranboo's first priority and Ranboo is putting his brain thru the blender for him! We do not see him in a comparable consistent state like this at any point except New L’Manberg! Ranboo is fucked up in outpost arc!! And Tubbo obviously is too; the entire arc is about his lash-out and he is obviously paranoid doing it. And both of these only make it clear that the unbalanced expectations the whole dynamic was built on, of reliance on Ranboo as specially in Tubbo’s corner, are still fucking there
Ranboo’s behavior is extremely worth scrutinizing here. When Q sends Fundy and I am pretty sure Foolish? to go check out the outpost and they trash it on the way there, Ranboo cleans it up (and leaves threats, which is not a Hinged Action and is something he knows is self-compromising, which goes to show his state of mind) w/ the explicit motivation of keeping it from Tubbo. Ranboo talks to Quackity abt Tubbo and repeatedly makes excuses abt how Tubbo is neurodivergent and a minor, and sure, it says the same thing about itself, but then it continues saying similar shit to rationalize Tubbo's behavior on its own. Ranboo has very expressed interest in portraying Tubbo, both to any audience it has AND to itself, as someone who is not responsible for his actions, because he’s Going Through A Lot, and it has been doing that since the mention of the experiments/tower scene in character.
Tubbo has to cling to the idea that Ranboo's treasonous tendencies are tied to his memory loss. Ranboo has to cling to the idea that Tubbo’s erratic and violent behavior all doesn't really matter bc Tubbo is ~ twaumatized ~, because he “has a lot of problems,” and they both have to cling to their ableist copium, because if they don’t, then each has to admit that his husband would hurt him, and in fact has.
Outpost arc is also where we get "you'd tell me if I was a bad person right" "yeah I’d tell you if you step out of line" – I talk about it in connection to the things I’ve discussed earlier more in depth here, but further: it’s extra chilling when you consider 1) Ranboo does not genuinely concur with Tubbo's philosophies, is not kept safe by them and he knows that when in his right state of mind as evidenced by his active ever-present weaseling-out-of-this maneuvers; 2) that Ranboo is demonstrably extremely good at aforesaid weaseling; and 3) that he is extremely ideologically critical and fiercely independent and arrogant, all the time! And this is the evidence point for what I say in the tags of that ask: Tubbo is the closest on the server to come to ever having control over Ranboo ideologically
Ranboo is so good at 5D chess. Ranboo outmaneuvered Wilbur and Quackity and Dream. Ranboo, increasingly freely, is able to disagree and bring up concerns to Phil and Techno (not fully obv but more than everyone else he talks to lmao), whom broadly he agrees with and has seen the benefit of the philosophies of, but still doesn’t think are Fully Correct, because he doesn’t think that about anyone but himself. But with Tubbo, Ranboo conceded so much that he could have lost the game if Tubbo hadn't proceeded to fold during the burger arc. And Tubbo didn't even know! He didn't even realize anything was off!!
That fold is the next relevant point in this torrid saga. Tubbo reaches a breaking pt with Wilbur's return; Ranboo gets even more visibly freaked out at all times bc of the complicating situation; it’s here when we get the conversation where Tubbo talks abt the outpost and having signed it over.
This hits Ranboo in a way Tubbo is going to miss, because, again, when has anyone on the DSMP given Tubbo a precedent for caring about that? He has literally 0 example reason to consider all the work™ that any individual put into a project as far as he’s concerned that’s not going to work. Ranboo, unfortunately, not only does, but also has RSD. This already hurts. And then Tubbo makes the to-him extremely innocuous statement that yeah, now that he has a job and a faction and a direction that he isn't buckling under the weight of losing, he's finally happy
Ranboo, who is extremely dubious abt LNV's labor conditions anyway, fully hears that Tubbo never needed him. Tubbo is finally happy in service to the exact construct that Ranboo has repeated concrete evidence fucks himself and everyone around him, Tubbo included, up. Ranboo hears that he has been soundly cucked by the concept of sides, to put it a little facetiously. He has been checkmate liberals’d.
(This, understandably, does nothing for his mental state.)
And before I continue I must mention again: Ranboo and Tubbo do care about each other. They do legitimately want the best for each other. They have legitimately bonded, and are genuine friends (&c).
But you also have to remember that Ranboo is extremely calculating, and if you’ll also recall, he is still in a high stakes and high delicacy political situation where he has to be making a lot of those calculations. Now, he's just heard that he was never needed for one of his primary goals. Yes, this hurts, but it carries an important second significance to those calculations: if keeping Tubbo stable was never Ranboo’s doing, this is a reason to deprioritize it.
And that is how we go into Hitting on Sixteen/The Wilbur Van. That is why Ranboo is able to snap at Tubbo in Ho16/TWV. The sheer contrast between the "I'll tell you if you step out of line" agreement and Ranboo dismissing and yelling at Tubbo in this is the biggest and clearest indicator – and the deciding difference is that in Ho16, Ranboo has the goddamn burger van interaction in his information bank, the one where Ranboo was told that his concerns were useless and could be deprioritized. He has been functionally dismissed from his post – he no longer has to worry about appearing good and trustworthy and respectful to Tubbo, and with greater things hanging over his head than maintaining those appearances, he goes full mask off. He prioritizes mitigating Wilbur over mitigating Tubbo in that scene, and he feels bad about it bc he likes Tubbo, and he feels bad for yelling at him, especially considering he is lying – dismissal of everyone who isn’t himself aside, Ranboo knows just fine that Wilbur is dangerous and doing something harmful! He is lying!!
But that's the thing with Ranboo. Ranboo will lie to fucking anyone. It will lie to your motherfucking face with full confidence, and then it'll feel soooo bad about it later, it'll tear him up inside, and you will hear about none of it, and he'd do it again, because it'll be another calculated concession. Because Ranboo is a yes man and a survivor and a political agenda haver and is balancing like 478363 conflicting priorities at any given time because he has to
So it lies. It mansplains Wilbur Soot to Tubbo (and I do not use that word as a joke I use it as shorthand) and it lies and it can do this so immediately because it did not have to lose or shake a long-standing respect for Tubbo – at that point, its initial wisps of respect for Tubbo had been disintegrated and gone for months. He was never trustworthy to Tubbo – Tubbo put his trust and his reliance in a liar and a traitor, because Ranboo's lies were the only semblance of respect and understanding he got, and it was against what both of them wanted for Tubbo to realize that ever. Tubbo is married to a motherfucking stranger.
Tubbo appeals to a better person that Ranboo isn't, to a loyalty Ranboo never really had, and bc Ranboo doesn't have to pretend to respect him anymore Tubbo gets berated and condescended to, again. Like I cannot emphasize this shit enough! Ranboo was shit to Tubbo in that scene, and even if he had sacrificed himself for Tubbo, it wouldn’t have done fuck anything to address how awful he was in that moment and why it was so deeply such. And Ranboo didn’t even “sacrifice himself”! People made that up!
Yes, Ranboo's political motivation was in large part that Tubbo, someone he cared about, was being repeatedly endangered and used as a prop from where Ranboo was standing, and Ranboo found that kind of mistreatment of a person he cared for the wellbeing of untenable. He cared about that, genuinely, because he cares about people and about their individual safeties, and even when he hurts them it’s, again, a concession. It’s something he wants to avoid. So Tubbo is in danger and Ranboo acts in the capacity of his care for Tubbo and gets Tubbo out, makes sure that materially his loved one is safe – and then, having dealt with the danger to people, turns around and deals with ideology.
It's not for Tubbo that it kills itself, because Ranboo, again, cares about people. Ranboo killing himself did nothing for Tubbo, and it fucking knows that; Ranboo’s critical eye is extremely good at seeing past the notion that benefit to some ideology is necessarily the same as benefit to some person without being able to draw a clear line to the effects that ideology has on that person. The division between effect on people and effect on system – the concept that the ideologies one live under affect people rather than breathe as them, and that they thus have to justify that effect being good rather than having symbolic gestures take priority over individuals – is the whole motherfucking point of people not sides.
Ranboo killed himself as a symbolic gesture in service to a rhetorical point he was making to Wilbur and Quackity. Ranboo killed himself to win at 5D chess. Ranboo thoughtlessly made it so his husband watched him die, because after saving Tubbo, he had bigger things to worry about.
Ranboo killing himself is, extremely intentionally both in universe and out, evocative of Wilbur doing so because in a sense it was for Wilbur, and it was thought out. Ranboo’s suicide was not nonsensical revenge; it was not emotional protectiveness; it was the callous, cruel, condescending, twisted logic of a man who has shown this flaw in its ways of thinking again and again and whose lack of sleep the night before was specifically emphasized. Ranboo reaches drastic action and violence when he finds himself when he finds himself desperate and alone in the corner he’s backed into, and left with his own mind and only his own mind, he thinks himself into the deranged awfulness of the brainspace he was in when he made the decision. Though the choice itself was likely spontaneous, it was a culminating manifestation of a thought process that had been building for this kind of opportunity the whole time.
Yes, Ranboo is emotional; yes, Ranboo is sentimental; Ranboo does, however, think with his fucking head. He does it too much, in fact, and here he thought with his head into deprioritizing Tubbo, and functionally leaving Tubbo behind while he pursued his own agenda – which is really what he had been doing all a-fucking-long; he'd just been lying about it out of worry and fear, and Tubbo had believed him out of desperation.
The love was there, but it didn’t matter. What mattered was the need, and the desperate belief from both of them that the other could fulfill that need.
TL;DR: - Beeduo is based on a fundamentally imbalanced dynamic where Tubbo trusts Ranboo to be in his corner in a way no one else really is - This is bad because of the expectations it places on Ranboo and because of the way that it’s not something that Tubbo can actually rely on - The second Ranboo was no longer coercively held to pretending, everything fell through - Both of them clung for the longest time to ableist copium that dismissed the other’s capability to harm him to get away from the fact that they have already hurt each other and continue to - While they care about each other, their understandings of personhood, love, relationships, agency, and happiness are fundamentally at odds
TL;DRTL;DR: Ranboo is a liar and Tubbo is an auth

like, what is c!dream's lore outside of c!tommy? can you tell me anything about c!dteam apart from them being friends? can you tell me any noticeable character trait that doesn’t stem from his storyline with c!tommy?
i remember seeing this one tweet from a c!dream apologist saying “we have to dig so far to find things about c!dream” and like that’s obviously poor media literacy bc they refuse to acknowledge any of his relationship with c!tommy. but genuinely it’s the best criticism of his writing- because, what is he without c!tommy? you do, as they said, have to spend hours looking for any discernible traits, and as they also said, you get something like “he likes fish”, which isn’t a personality trait or particularly interesting. c!dream is a phenomenal character, but none of that comes from the boring ass, barely existent lore outside of c!tommy that inevitably crashed and burned after a few streams. remember micheal mcchill? remember fucking ranboo? hell, even tommy had to beg for months for that shitty finale.
like there’s a reason c!dream's lore outside of c!tommy crashed and burned. and i mean it’s good for me bc it means i get to make c!prime stuff but like mans was written by tommyinnit and it shows like the only time we got consistent c!dream content was when tommy wrote him he deserves custody.
