Last night we celebrated World Dracula Day at our local bar and of course we busted out our favorite vampire and familiar!

And yes, I finally got to wear my screen accurate purple sweater!

Breakdown:

1. Wig and Contacts: Wig is from wigisfashion and styled by my forever lovely Dracula. Contacts are from Uniqso.

2. Undershirt and Sweater: Undershirt is just a Hanes plain white t-shirt. Sweater is the Vince Men's Birdseye Raglan Long Sleeve Crew in Wisteria/Pearl. I'm wearing a size small.

3. Handcuffs: Metal easy release handcuffs from Amazon.

4. Jeans are just a thrift store buy.

5. Socks are the same ones I used for my Colorblock sweater variant.

6. Shoes are NOT screen accurate but I'm currently waiting for mine in the mail. The UK has delayed mail due to the coronation.

Always happy to help get more Starkid cosplays out in the world 😊 Just bear in mind some things may only be available in the UK if you're not also living here currently.

Also fair warning, this gets surprisingly pricey. I was in a rush to get things together quickly, so if you've got time deffo poke around and find yourself cheaper options

I'll go top down:

The hat/visor I originally got from ebay, but you can get on amazon, etsy, or probably a few other places, just search for a rhinestone visor and you should find one.

The wig is from coscraft, it's two curly ponytail clip ons and their Charlie wig, both in fuschia. If you're outside the UK your best bet is probably epic cosplay who have very similar ponytails and base wig

The site I bought my shirt from was sketchy as hell and doesn't even exist any more, so I can't link that unfortunately, but a white tank top or tube top will do you fine, but if you're concerned with being super accurate, the shirt Kim wears does have a thin strip of fur around the neckline, that's super easy to get from any craft store and glue/stitch on.

The fluffy arm things also came from ebay, but I've seen several sites that do like party/festival wear things sell these. They're actually boot covers, so if you again search etsy/amazon/ebay/your preferred site for "fluffy pink boot covers" I guarantee you can find them. Just make sure the elastic is the right size for your arms.

The skirt I made myself because it seems to only be available in XS in the Hot Pink colour everywhere it's sold, and would have had to have shipped from the US and would have taken too long/cost too much.

It's Allegra K A-Line Mini Suspender skirt, and I've seen it on Amazon, Walmart, Target and couple of other random sites. Here's the official Allegra K site (which unfortunately just links through to Amazon)

My version of the skirt is a simple 3/4 circle skirt with a wide waist band and some straps attached.

The socks are from a lovely seller on ebay (my favourite cosplay resource tbh) who makes pole dancing gear. Again, they're generic enough that you can probably find them on your site of choice. Just search for "Glitter thigh high socks"

And finally the shoes are by a company called Lucky Step, and thankfully also sell in the UK via Amazon again. I had to buy a size up, but a half size up would have been ideal if they did them. They're super comfy too, so much so I got myself another pair in black for everyday use.

Lacey Cat (2024) #3

I ditched most of my makeup when I moved to the UK, but I did buy back some essential items when I had my last dress up session. Still, being a noob in cosmetics, I didn’t think of checking them before the session. I only realized on the day that some of the makeup could’ve gone bad or dried up after not being used for so long.

Luckily, most of them still worked. Unluckily, the eyeliner refused to give me any more ink after I’ve done 80% of my right eye and a bit of my left. If anyone has recommendations on good eyeliners, please please please let me know. All the ones I’ve used either dried up fast (pens), or not had enough pigment (pencils).

I ended up using my darkest eyeshadow as a substitute. I was surprised how well it worked. With it being just brown and not even black. So maybe I can just always use eyeshadow instead???

The rest of the makeup was just my usual things. I only have red themed eyeshadows left. And I only have 1 lipstick (well actually 2, of the same colour because I mistakenly ordered it twice… such an ouchy moment for someone who doesn’t need to show the lips all that much), which is actually too dark a red to my liking.

I still have some fake nails and nail polish, but I don’t have any remover. Putting on the fake nails takes too much time and they fall off too easily. A bit too much stress for videos in general.

I was also a bit surprised that my wig was still in decent shape, literally, after being jammed in a box for so long. There were some strands that had become... wild? Like cured up or bent. I didn’t know why. But overall it wasn't too noticeable.

Still, how I wished I still had my short bob hair wig after I’ve put everything on. A shorter wig would make it less hot, again, literally, during the session!

For the undergarments and socks, I didn’t have many choices left. I checked my stock the day before, and found that a couple of pieces got mould on them, but they were fine after a quick wash. But all I had were similar, black, lacey panties and a couple of bralettes. I still had a few pairs of black stockings, one of which were fishnets and one opaque thigh highs.

Since the outfit itself was more of a cozy home clothing, I wanted to go with the thigh highs at first, but they were quite boring. I also think the fishnets matched the look well, but I wasn’t very confident with my legs. And with how most of my panties are lacey, I thought I might just go with this “lacey cat” theme and use a pair of lacey stockings. Looking back, I don’t think it’s the best choice.

Now, finally, we’re getting to the shooting itself next time!

two separate things from today: 1. this evening i was thinking about my goals for the next 10y or so and id like to buy some land + buy one (or two) tiny houses to go on it (maybe off grid but at current time id vastly prefer mains/water connections - i just havent done any research so unsure what's feasible)

think the "tiny house" movement specifically is overhyped and overpriced but if you look at insulated garden buildings you get a lot of similar options for half the price

would like to buy some acres in northern rural wales, but the highlands of scotland would also do me fine. (this next bit is extremely pie-in-the-sky hoping) would like to have a large amount of land so we could host friends or family who wanted to come and hang or camp or build their own tiny house nearby on our land

ben likes this idea a lot and would probably be on board financially, could possibly shake my parents down if i had a well-evidenced plan of action + offered them staycations free of charge etc

i dont want to live in a tiny house permanently (i actually like my life here in worcs) but i think it would be great to have the option of a nearby retreat, esp bc i dont own any part of this house + owning something of my own would be v helpful if this all went tits up somehow

2. i am going to apply for the next UK BJD con - i wanted to do last year's, not sure if i said here, probably did lets be honest, but i didnt in the end bc i was stillr eally anxious about covid (and honestly i probably will still be next year but we move) but ive done enough reading now that i am convinced it's much less of a threat than it was

i think selling wigs on the con circuit would be really lucrative and hopefully by next year i'll have my eye processes a lot better as well and they'll be sellable too

How come Monique didn’t use her braided wig for Howard? Did she have that pony just for a 3rd cover or is it someone else’s

Not sure. Definitely seemed like the braided one was rigged to be able to do a ponytail style. Could have been a stylistic choice or just not looked how they wanted it when actually on (not as long etc). It's been standard with most UK casts for everyone to get a ponytail wig. They're fairly quick/easy to make + far less expensive for Six to buy (at least relative to other hairpieces) + very easy to reuse for different queens. Howard is also a much more standardized and specific hairstyle - there's a lot of options for how an actors' natural hair can be styled into the buns for Boleyn, for example, irregardless of their natural length or texture, and Six has embraced more diversity in hair style there too (Baylie's curly bob versus Laura Pyatt's longer straight hair). But it seems like they're less likely/willing to compromise on the long wig for Howard, so considering that it's relatively easy/affordable/practical for everyone to have one that's been the choice they've been making. That being said...I'm not totally convinced it was hers from the start. Again, I feel like the original plan may have been for her to use the braided wig. If that's the case, this one was either made later in the run or yes she could be using someone else's. I'd lean towards the first as being more likely: recent looks at the wig room showed there being three dark brunette Howards (not including Esme Rothero’s) and there's not a super easy explanation for there being three if Monique is using someone else's + there haven't been many old ones in that style/color that she could be reusing. But, again, the ponytails are easy enough to reuse and it is possible.

In 2022 the sugary high cholesterol collab of our dreams dropped when the Duncan Hines corporation and beloved Country & Western diva and bouffant wig enthusiast Dolly Parton joined forces for a limited-edition “Southern Style” range of cake mixes and frostings. And the kitschy retro pastel Barbie-like packaging was pure pop art! So, imagine how crushed I was when I couldn’t find any of these cake mixes at my local grocery stores in London. And I quickly discovered they were also seemingly impossible to order online outside of America. I sent a message to Duncan Hines via their Twitter account querying this, and a representative explained the licensing agreement exclusively covers the US, meaning no one outside of the country can buy Parton’s cake mixes. It was seemingly never meant to be … 

... until my sassy Ohio-residing British ex-pat friend Louise (“Weezie) came to the rescue! She sent me two packages of Parton’s banana-flavoured cake mixes and two tubs of her buttercream frosting as a Christmas gift. (I don’t even want to think how much the postage must have cost her). I was going to hang onto them for special occasions (plus I’m trying to shift some post-Christmas – hell, post-Covid lockdown – blubber). And then there were the legal concerns. Am I breaking the law? It felt illicit! This cake mix is not licensed for use in the UK! But I cracked and - donning my frilly pinafore - whipped-up one of the mixes yesterday. My verdict? Even though the box screamed “DO NOT EAT RAW BATTER” in bold and upper case, I sampled some of the batter and it gave instant promising hits of banana milkshake. My layers came out a bit asymmetrical and wonky, but the finished cake is sublime. It’s ultra-sweet and packed with that synthetic banana flavour which is Proustian for those of us who came of age in the seventies before people worried about E-numbers in food. Goddess Dolly never steers you wrong! In conclusion, to paraphrase Homer Simpson: “Mmmm – fattening!” Now I’m determined to get my hands on the coconut-flavoured version!
