congratulations on 175 followers đđ I was wondering if you are comfortable in writing something about a music band member reader, maybe guitarist or bassist with Emily? Something like stage diving (jumps off the stage into the crowd during a live show, the crowd typically catches and lifts the performer as they dive).
The inspiration is from the prompt 97(when you fall, I will always be there to catch you) and the song Jump Then Fall of Taylor Swift, kind of âjump and fall both physically and emotionally.â
And again congratulations about 175 followers! And l am looking forward to see more about the story of Prometheus!
I'm glad we talked a little about this and hope you like the rest of the prompt coming alive. I had fun researching this.

It finally happened â headlining a small venue tour in the Midwest with your indie rock band. All the years of showcasing your talent online through Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram, traveling anywhere that would give you a chance to play live, even if it meant for free, sending out demos to venues and uploading your music to Spotify, Bandcamp and Apple music, and marketing yourself on your own website with merchandise to buy got you a loyal, and very loud, fanbase.
Tonight, you were at the Cobra Lounge in Chicago and the place was at capacity because of your band. Patrons filled the tables in the back and all the barstools, pumping their fists in the air, whooping and hollering between drinking and eating. What really got the endorphins skyrocketing is the crowd surrounding the small stage at the back of the venue. The basic lighting was enough to provide a colorful effect and keep focus on your lead singer who was working the crowd during the chorus having them shout back the lyrics.
Dozens of faces were looking up at you, others had their eyes closed letting the music take over and get lost in the rhythms, others slapped the stage floor to play along in time with the music â even one person was trying to parrot you as you pluck the bass strings. You smile at them as you plant your non-dominant leg atop the speaker and head bang during the next riff.
When you bring your head back your eyes immediately locked with the best thing that had happened to you since the band was able to pool together enough money to buy a van to cart all of you and your gear around. Beautiful brown eyes are only eclipsed by the bright smile that your girlfriend has for you. You were lucky that Emily Prentiss was between cases to catch a flight in to see you play. Just like you were lucky she happened to be at the Black Cat in D.C. when you were in town trying to extend your fanbase. It was an all-female rock line up that night, and she wanted to unwind after a hard case. She vibed with your sound and after the concert ended up vibing with you in the red room during shared drinks. You exchanged numbers and a lingering kiss goodbye full of promise that night.
That was almost a year ago.
And now, youâre winking at her before blowing a kiss. You watch as she throws her head back in delighted laughter while clapping. The rush of happiness mixing with the euphoria of playing live â the cheering of the crowd, the beat of the drums and your notes vibrating through the stage, the rhythm of the guitar bringing it all together in a harmonious symphony of rock was fucking intense.
Adrenaline courses through your body, high on the sounds surrounding you and the smell of sweat and booze. Emily and everyone around her had their hands in the air in excitement. The scene felt electric and there seemed to be an unspoken connection coalescing with understanding and in the next beat, the air felt supercharged.
You stop plucking away for a moment and point at the crowd in front of you with an unspoken question, nodding along as you see the crowd wave you on. Some are jumping up and down with anticipation and there were riotous âCome ons!â encouraging you. Emily was laughing when your eyes met because it finally dawned on her what you were about to do. Your eyes narrow in question, and she nods.
Then you let go and trust in the moment.
You step off the speaker and raise your arms in the air as forewarning and the crowd erupts loudly as you quickly take the two steps it takes to get to the edge of the stage and launch off of it. You twist at the same time to make sure to land on your back, forcing your legs up as much as possible to not accidentally kick anyone. Youâre in firm control of your instrument, hugging it to your body lengthwise as you undulate under the control of the crowd below you. You feel light and euphoric with the trust you placed in crowd and manage to start playing again which only makes the moment even more intense as your passed around.
âFUCK YEAH!â you cry out, feeling as if the connection had firmly cemented. You vaguely hear your lead singer adlibbing the lyrics based on your stage dive along with the pounding of glasses and bottles urging you and the crowd to keep going.
You feel weightless and free and safe. So safe that you closed your eyes as youâre brought down to stand in the crowd. You donât even have to take a guess as to whose face youâll be staring into when you open your eyes. You can tell by how familiar the hands were gripping your sides possessively. You rock your head, laughing in exhilaration as you cautiously keep your instrument against you, plucking away as the crowd was patting your head, shoulders, back â really anywhere they could respectfully.
When you finally opened your eyes, you were staring into beautiful brown orbs. Emily was there to catch you, personally making sure that you wouldnât fall and land safely. People were patting her shoulders and back, just like you, excited that she was the one that got to hold you. Caught up in the moment of absolute perfection and endorphins running high, you capture Emilyâs lips in a fierce kiss.
The crowd around the two of you jumped up and down cheering, which only grew louder as the two of you briefly deepened the kiss. It wasnât for show, no. This was a solidification of the love you felt for one another, and it brings you back to the moment you shared your first real kiss together.
You were in the passenger seat of Emilyâs car, biting your lower lip shyly, because you were torn between reaching over to take her hand or leaning over to close the distance and kiss her. You two werenât shy at the club when you kissed goodbye because the alcohol had taken the edge off inhibitions. Now, this moment was purely a conscious decision in Emilyâs car with Taylor Swift of all people playing on the radio.
Every time you smile, I smile And every time you shine, I shine And every time you're here Baby, I'll show you, I'll show you You can jump then fall, jump then fall Jump then fall into me, into me, yeah*
Emily was the one to reach out first to cup your cheek with a tender smile. Your eyes grow heavy at her touch and the feel of her thumb lightly caressing your cheek. It sent a shiver straight down your spine and forces an unwanted sigh to escape past your lips. She immediately takes the opportunity to lightly brush your lips together, testing the waters, before you were the one taking over with a wanting moan âŚ
You continue to play through the kiss, even with a teasing tongue sneaking its way into your mouth that generated a surge of want straight through to your core. The familiar taste of cigarettes, sweat and booze grounds you in the moment so it felt as if it were just the two of you. The tactile sensations became dampened by Emilyâs kiss, the way she squeezes you harder, to make sure that everywhere here knows that you are hers.
Everyone was witness to the prolific declaration of love. It was a heady sensation of freedom to love and be loved with acceptance.
It was a flawless state of being, the two of you, together.
The bottom's gonna drop out from under our feet I'll catch you, I'll catch you When people say things that bring you to your knees I'll catch you The time is gonna come when you're so mad you could cry But I'll hold you through the night until you smile*

Points of Interest 4
Hi friends! This POI has been overdue for months I'm so sorry! One thing you may have noticed is there's a number attached to the title now. This titling scheme will follow for every POI post from here on out because it's honestly way more convenient especially with how some months there's little I want to type about while other months have lots I want to type about (although if you're really curious what's below occurred from January - February, I wasn't kidding when I said this was well overdue!)
But enough of the foreword, let's get into it!
Portal 2
So interesting thing, I got Portal 2 around 2013 when I first got my PS3, I never played the first Portal game as I didnât have Steam and I never played The Orange Box which is where Portal debuted in 2007. Portal 2 was a game I played because I remember at the time hearing about how good the game was and while I did play it I never actually finished it.
Late last year I remembered I never finished the game so I started again from the beginning and finally beat it in January, and I can safely say that over a decade after the gameâs release that Portal 2 is a fantastic experience from beginning to end and deserves all the praise people give it.
There is so much I could gush about with the characters, worldbuilding, storytelling, etc. But as a first for this series of mine I wonât go into detail because Portal 2 is one of those games thatâs best to be played with as little knowledge as possible (in my case there were some things I knew about prior unfortunately, but luckily a lot of what I experienced was new to me).
One thing I will do though is share a link to this playlist of Portal 2 animations by Harry101UK which look, sound and feel so close to the game that you'd be amazed Valve had nothing to do with them! In particular I absolutely love his remake of his first ever Portal animation based on the song This Is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas, you have no idea how many times I've listened to it! (Don't worry there's no spoilers for the game so if you've not played it you can still watch his videos without worry of that)
If youâre like me and have never played Portal 2 after all this time I highly recommend you do so if you get the chance (in fact you can even skip the first Portal game since outside of some backstory it doesnât affect the sequel much), you wonât regret it!
The Repair That Never Was
I realise that with all the talk Iâve done about appliances and fixing things that it may give the impression that this is something I normally do, but in reality this is very rare and itâs a big coincidence that two appliance fiascos happened close together (although pre-teen me would have been ecstatic at the knowledge theyâd eventually get to do something they always wanted - fixing a broken appliance).
So context, back in 2016 we brought a second-hand tumble dryer, it worked fine but some years ago I started to suspect that something was off because there would be rumbling noises every so often (bear in mind the type of noise a dryer can make can point to different types of faults like bad roller bearings, bad rear bearings, etc.) So after trying to figure out what type of noise it was I thought it was a result of a bad dryer fan (which is what takes the air from the drum through the vent and out the back) As sometimes they can âwarpâ due to the heat and not spin evenly causing it to be noisy when in use.
I was so confident that this was the issue I brought the part for it in advance for the time where there would be a good opportunity to open the machine up (although buying the part online was tricky as the dryer was made in the late 90s and sometimes machines that old can be hard to find parts for). Cut to January where one day itâs drying as normal only for me to notice that at some point the machine was running but the drum wasnât turning, which suggested one thing, the belt had snapped (what sits around the motor that causes the drum to turn).
Now that the dryer was broken I took the opportunity I had been waiting for and opened it up, but I discovered that the rumbling noise wasnât actually caused by a warped dryer fan at all but rather a loose jockey wheel (the part thatâs on the end of the motor which the belt fits on) what a plot twist! Honestly considering it was loose for goodness knows how long itâs no wonder that eventually caused the belt to snap, not only that but I have an unopened dryer fan part on my desk I can't do anything with so it makes some pretty unconventional decoration hehe.
Because of this and the fact it was deemed easier to just get a new dryer, the old one was sent to its final resting place in the scrapyard (which considering it was at least 25 years old, Iâd say it did its job well). But it doesnât end there. I felt the best thing to do was to buy a washer dryer (because it would be more convenient for my small kitchen) which meant it would also replace our washing machine at the same time which I wrote about replacing the door seal a year ago, so despite me doing that repair it ended up being too little too late ironically.
One final thing to note: The washer dryer bought was the same manufacture as the one before our machine which I repaired, of which the former machine lasted 13-14 years. No Pressure!
Video Game Museum Trip Feat. @Klonoamiyumi
Video game museums are somewhat uncommon throughout the world but in recent times more and more have been opening up, and a year or two ago I discovered one myself but it was a far away from where Iâm located so I never visited it. As my birthday was approaching and there was a holiday I was going to go on soon I decided just before that would happen that I would finally visit the museum alongside two IRL friends (including @klonoamiyumi!).
Due to the distance I decided for us to get there by train which was honestly nerve wracking as I normally donât take the train (not only that but add on to the fact I was taking the train while organising the trip in the first place), but outside of one slip up (which Iâll get into later) we all got our tickets and away we went!
On the train itself we sat together and talked about our video game history along with some general topics as well, bear in mind the three of us up to this point hadnât met up much together so it was an interesting experience being able to talk among ourselves. After around an hour on the train we arrived at our destination and stepped out, I had researched directions on where to go to the museum beforehand however actually exploring around the city was tricky because I had never been to that location before, luckily I was able to rely on Google Maps to figure out where to go and after accidentally going in a circle (oops!) We did eventually find the building we were looking for: The National Video Game Museum!
For most of the year this specific museum is only open Thursday â Sunday except for the UK summer holidays where its open everyday, there were a wide array of both arcade machines and video game consoles to play on, anecdotes from past and present video game developers (including a small tribute to the late Masayuki Uemura who supported the museum), signs describing various bits of history along with glass cases including important related material, etc. Despite not being the largest of museums for whatâs there it should satisfy the curiosity of any video game fan of any era not only because of whatâs on display but also because thereâs so many things to interact with and discover that there's bound to be something you didn't know of beforehand, plus because it's not that large of a museum there's no worry of getting lost or overwhelmed but it doesn't feel underwhelming either. The place is ideal for a day out even if it was just yourself going there.
There was another thing that happened as well while we were there, by complete chance an online friend of both @klonoamiyumi and I (who has her own Tumblr blog @janeypoodle) was at the event, not only was this meetup not planned at all but they were planning to go to the museum the day before but couldnât as the train got cancelled. What a plot twist! Janey is someone me and Klonoamiyumi have known about for a long time and while a potential visit did sometimes cross our minds for one reason or another it never took off. So to actually meet them in an unexpected place was such a wonderful surprise and a bonus to add to our day out, we all talked for a while and then we took a photo of us three to remember :>
Throughout the museum for the most part we all split up when going around what video games were available, but just before the museum closed Klonoamiyumi wanted me and our other IRL friend to play a game with him called Buzz! Junior: Jungle Party as it served a particular importance, he recalls this game was one of the only video games he played with family and not just by himself (which I can relate because I myself had Buzz! Junior: Rino Rumble which plays identically to Jungle Party, and that was a game I played with my family as well).
After that session together we quickly looked at the shop section and then left the museum, we decided to have food since it was late in the afternoon by that point (we went to McDonaldâs specifically) and then we went back to the train station, however⌠Remember when I said there was one slip up that happened? Well while we managed to get back to train station, we narrowly missed our train (it was late in the evening as well), so I had to think quick and look up another train to the same destination on my phone and after some wondering around and last minute changes (because the train we needed to take ended up being on a different platform then announced). We got on and despite it being late in the evening we all got home safe and sound!
This trip was notable not just because of where we went but also because I've never organised anything like this before, but now that I have I can arrange a meetup of any kind again because starting something is always the hardest part, after that you start to get the hang of what you're doing and you get better every time! I think I speak for all of us when we all had a great experience!
Topic End: Epilogue
Again I'm really sorry for how overdue this is, I think you can tell the most significant thing included in this post hehe. I will say though this might be the last Points of Interest post for a while due to things that aren't really appropriate for this series, such as:
Events that are too negative to include (I intend this series to be positive and I don't want to bring myself or other people down reading the post)
Events that are positive but are too personal to include, this one is important to mention because truth be told I didn't really want to include topics relating to IRL events with family (like the cruise ship holiday) because while this series is a semi-dairy of sorts at the same time I only want to talk about things I'm comfortable being public online.
With that said, I hope you all enjoyed this POI and I'll see you next time!

How to Choose DJ Equipment Based on Your Performance Style
Choosing DJ equipment isnât just about buying the latest gadgets. Itâs about finding the right tools that match your performance style and help you shine. Whether youâre a beginner or an experienced DJ, the right setup can make or break your performance. Letâs dive into how you can choose equipment that fits your style and keeps your audience hooked.
Know Your Style
Before anything else, take a moment to figure out your DJing style. Do you enjoy blending tracks smoothly? Are you all about scratching and showing off techniques? Or do you prefer live remixing and producing unique sounds? Your style will determine what equipment you need.
For DJs Who Love Smooth Mixing
If your focus is on keeping the crowd moving with flawless transitions:
DJ Controllers: These are compact and have everything you needâjog wheels, pads, and built-in effects.
Software: Make sure your controller works seamlessly with popular software like Serato, Rekordbox, or Traktor.
Headphones: A good pair of headphones is essential for beatmatching and cueing tracks.
Look for controllers with an intuitive layout. This ensures you can focus on your mix instead of fumbling with buttons.
For Scratching Enthusiasts
If scratching and turntablism are your passion:
Turntables: Go for direct-drive turntables for better precision and durability.
Mixers: Invest in a battle mixer with a smooth crossfader and performance pads.
Vinyl or Timecode Vinyl: Choose traditional vinyl if you love the classic feel, or timecode vinyl if you want to control digital music.
Scratching is all about precision, so high-quality needles and a sturdy setup are non-negotiable.
For Live Remixers and Producers
For those who enjoy creating mashups and beats on the go:
Controllers with Pads: These allow you to trigger samples, loops, and effects during performances.
DAW Compatibility: If youâre into live production, ensure your gear integrates with software like Ableton Live.
Additional Gear: Synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers can take your creativity to the next level.
This setup gives you the flexibility to experiment and craft a unique sound.
Speakers and Sound Systems
No matter your style, your sound system is key. Look for:
Active Speakers: These are great for DJs because they have built-in amplifiers, making setup easier.
Subwoofers: These are crucial if you play bass-heavy tracks.
Test your speakers in a similar space to where youâll perform. Itâs surprising how much a roomâs acoustics can impact your sound.
Portability vs. Permanent Setups
Are you constantly on the go? Lightweight and portable gear might be your best bet. But if youâre setting up a home studio or a club residency, you can invest in more robust, permanent equipment.
Test Before You Commit
If possible, visit a store and try out the equipment. Feel the jog wheels, test the pads, and listen to the sound quality. Online reviews are helpful, but nothing beats hands-on experience.
Start Small and Grow
You donât need a massive setup to begin. A simple controller, headphones, and a laptop with DJ software are enough to get started. As your skills and gigs grow, you can expand your setup with more advanced gear. Choosing the right DJ equipment is a personal journey. Your gear should match your style, enhance your creativity, and make every performance unforgettable. Take your time, do your research, and pick tools that make you excited to perform, prefer buying from professional audio shops like VIP PRO AUDIO With the right setup, youâre not just playing musicâyouâre creating an experience.

Make Every Beat Count with Yamaha Drum Kit
Drums have been long recognized as the soul of any musical band. Drums are the most versatile musical instrument that produces different sounds ideal for rock, jazz, country, or indie music. Drumming is an art that is used to generate a steady beat in any song. Drummers who are starting their musical journey and want to buy drum online or are professionally performing in bands, stages, or music studios are fond of drum kits . Drum kits often include the bass (or kick) drum, the snare drum, and toms. It also has hardware and the common drum hardware includes the bass drum pedal, the throne, and the hi-hat and cymbal stands.Â
There are a variety of drums present in the market. These include acoustic bass drums, electric drum kits, electro-acoustic and finger drum pads. Let us look in depth at these categories of drums and how they have made drumming a more fun experience for drummers!
ACOUSTIC DRUMSÂ
These are the standard drum kits used for drumming for a very long period. The set includes a kick drum, bass, tombs, pedal throne, and the hi-hat and cymbal stands. Drum kits from popular musical instrument brands often consist of five pieces: two tom-toms, a floor tom, a bass drum, and a snare drum. The floor tom is a tom-tom with a stand or legs that rests on the floor. The bass drum produces a low sound and is operated with the foot by stepping on a pedal. The snare drum is a shallow drum that best showcases the drummer's particular style. The basic cymbals are the huge ride cymbal, the crash cymbal (used for accents), and the hi-hat, which has two stacked cymbals whose separation can be adjusted to lengthen or shorten the cymbals' sound. Yamaha has been the top musical instrument brand offering a stunning collection of drum kits like Rydeen, Stage Custom Birch, and Stage Custom Hip.Â
ELECTRONIC DRUMS
The electronic drum sets come equipped with ten inbuilt drum kits, acoustic drum effects, and electronic sounds to give you that perfect beat in every way.
Electronic drums have taken drumming a notch higher. With the arrival of electric drum kits, the expression of music-making has gone a level higher. Brands like Yamaha have launched some fantastic drum sets like their DTX series which include;
DTX900 series
DTX10 series
DTX8 series
DTX402 series
DTX6 series
And DTX Multipad
All these Yamaha drum sets are flagship kits that are equipped with the latest features and numerous acoustic kit sounds. This electronic drumming technology includes Yamaha's next-generation DTX-PAD drum pads, which are specifically developed for drummers. Visit the website to explore more about each drum series.Â
FINGER DRUM PADS
Finger Drumming pads are electronic drum pads that are designed for finger drumming; a new way of drumming. Not just the advanced features and tech used but also the compact design, ergonomic comfort, and ease of use make it the best drum and also the most popular drum for studio or stage performances.Â
It consists of a thoughtfully designed layout and pads to give the ultimate drumming experience with your fingers or sticks.Â
Yamaha presents the most powerful finger drum Pads; FGDP-50 and FGDP-30. They consist of sampled acoustic drum sounds to powerful electronic sounds, curated by top professionals covering a wide array of genres. The FGDP features a tone generator, rechargeable battery, and internal speaker, all that makes it an all-in-one instrument that you can take anywhere and play anywhere. Explore the website to learn the astonishing features of Yamahaâs FGDP finger drumming series.
Whether you are a beginner who is willing to learn drumming to take their musical journey to the next level or a professional who wants to strum new beats of the drum on the stage, the range of acoustic, electric, and finger drum kits from Yamaha Music India make your every beat count. Why are kona coffee beans so special?
Location, Climate, and Soil
The Kona district of Hawaii is located on the western coast of the Big Island and is known for its unique climate and soil, which make it the perfect place for growing coffee. The area has a year-round warm and sunny climate with ample rainfall, which helps the coffee plants grow and thrive. Also, the volcanic soil in the Kona region is rich in minerals and nutrients, which adds to the distinct flavor of the coffee beans.
Hand-Picked and Sun-Dried
Kona coffee beans are hand-picked and carefully selected to ensure that only the ripest beans are used. This process ensures that only the highest quality beans are used to produce Kona coffee. The beans are then sun-dried on large mats, which fully bring out their unique flavor and aroma.
Uniformly Roasted
Dried green Kona Coffee beans are roasted by placing them in a drum that is rotated over a flame source. This method of supplying indirect heat is increasingly preferred as it ensures consistent heating and accurate temperature control throughout the roasting process. Roasters change the roasting time and temperature for every lot of pure Kona coffee beans, depending on the roast profile or flavor that they desire to create.Â
How to buy Pure Kona Coffee
If you're looking for pure Kona coffee beans, look for the "100% Kona Coffee" label. A Beat For You
Idol: Lee Siyeon (Dreamcatcher)
Anon: Heya, I hope youâre having a great day! I was wondering if it would be ok for you to do a scenario with Siyeon? Their recent online concert w/ the live band (lmao i still cant hellboy sua out of my head sEND HELPâ) had me thinking of a drummer reader practicing late and Siyeon hears the noises inside the practice room. She decides to check it out and finds reader too immersed in drumming to notice her so Singnie just watches in awe. Reader gets flustered at the audience but they hit it off. Tnx!
A/n: we love HellBboya in this house lmao but to tell you the truth the concert still loves in my mind, rent free up to this day and i canât function well :3 Also Siyeon is so pretty, i will cry
âbuy me a coffeeâ
With the night sky visible from the window, Siyeon couldnât help the small smile that tugged at her lips when she mouthed the lyrics of Scream as she listened to it playing on her phone.
Since this would be the first time they were performing with a live band, she wanted to be able to practice everything and to make sure she was able to give their fans the best performance they could offer with the restrictions of it only being through the screen.
And add to the fact that Handong was finally back with all of them, her mood was just too good to be let down.
It was so late, but with preparations, it was understandable to have at least one of them still at the company. It just so happened that Yubin left a little before her and was waiting at the cafeteria as she finished her own practice.
While heading down the halls, there was the distinct sound of drums piercing through the song she was listening to when it reached the bridge. Turning her head, the door that led to the bandâs practice room caught her attention and she looked around to see if anyone else was there.
When there wasnât a single soul around, she quietly crept over, turning her music off before she took a peek inside the room when she recognized the beats to Mayday coming from inside.
Aside from the drums, there wasnât anything else, so she was curious as to who was inside, only to spot your lone figure, hands gripping your drumsticks as you focused on the beats of the song.
Due to being so engrossed in what you were doing, you had failed to notice the audience you gained, watching you with awe because of how well you were transitioning from one song to another.
Even though Siyeonâs been able to practice with the whole band, she never really noticed you standing out since you were situated at the very back. Plus, the drums were too much and blocked her view of you to really get a good look at you.
âItâs getting a bit late, donât you think?â She asks lightly when you finally pause in your movements to grab the bottle by your feet and rest your hands. The sound of her voice earns your attention and you smile bashfully while putting the drumsticks aside.
You were not expecting anyone to come in and check on you at this time. âI, um, I was just getting some more practice for the concert.â You explain as the singer notices how you press the bottle to your hand.
She cocks a brow before taking a seat in front of you. âWe still have a few more days, you can always practice tomorrow.â She tells you before you nod your head, relaxing a bit at the gentleness of her voice. âI know, but I just wanted to be prepared so I donât mess things up for you girls.â
Hearing your words caused the blondeâs expression to soften and she smiles before shaking her head. âYouâll do perfectly fine. I would prefer you donât strain yourself too much while worrying over the concert.â She says while nodding to your hands and you quickly look down at them, realizing that she staring at the few blisters that were already appearing.
You let out a sigh before putting the bottle down. âIs there another reason youâre working so hard?â She canât help but ask and you blush lightly. âIâm actually a...â You clear your throat before rubbing the back of your neck. âIâm a big fan and, knowing that youâre all back together, I wanted to help make this memorable for everyone, not just the fans.â
You answer seemed to make her smile widen when she rested her chin against her hand as you fiddled with the sticks. âYou know, I didnât really notice you too much during rehearsals but now I feel even more bad.â She admits and you blink in surprise. âWhy?â
âBecause youâre cute, too.â
Hearing that caused you to laugh in surprise and this time, Siyeon was the one who felt heat rush to her cheeks while you shook your head. âWell, thatâs definitely new.â You chuckle before looking back at her. âBut thank you, that means a lot coming from you.â You say and somehow Siyeon canât help mirroring your smile.
âWhat can I say? I always know when to appreciate art.â She says confidently and you try very hard not to smile too much while looking at her. âThen you must appreciate yourself a lot.â
Biting her lip, Siyeon shook her head before tucking her hair behind her ear. âYouâre quite the charmer.â She notes, bringing the blush back to your cheeks. âNot really, just a bit of an honest person.â You reply and she hums before feeling her phone vibrate.
Seeing the text from Yubin asking of her whereabouts, she sighed for having to cut your conversation short. But when she meets your eyes again, she smiles before rising to her feet. âWould you mind if I asked for your number?â She asks inquisitively, a small and hopeful smile on her face and you canât seem to say no.
After quickly punching your number in, she gives it a quick ring just so it was easier for you to save her number and then winked as she headed for the door.
âGet some rest tonight. Iâll see you tomorrow.â
She doesnât even look back when the door shuts behind her and she had to lean against the wall next to it. She couldnât wipe the smile off her face and she was sure Yubin would notice right away.
As she tried to compose herself, her phone vibrates again. When she sees the text, butterflies swarm inside her stomach before she decided to just meet with her friend and get things over with because there was no erasing her smile and her already better mood.
After that cute little goodnight message, sheâs sure she can sleep peacefully tonight despite the slight skip in her chest at the mere thought of you.

Radiohead Retrospective Part 4: Weâve got heads on sticks
Your name is Thom Yorke. Youâve just released what is considered one of the best albums of the 90s, if not of all time, and youâve achieved a level of fame that at least one band member considers akin to the Beatles. Through the release of OK Computer, youâve proven that even if people are pretty much over Oasis at this point, British rock bands still rule the airwaves. Youâre also stressed the fuck out over just about all of this, and having a very hard time accustoming to the life of a celebrity- let alone the usual mental health issues.
What will you do?
Apparently, the answer was to write the fourth album to be as far away from the previous few as possible, seeking influence from IDM groups like Aphex Twin, jazz stuff, and just some bizarro instruments and experimentation and leaving a lot of the ârockâ stuff behind. The primary genre listed for Kid A is usually Electronica or Ambient, with various off-kilter rock subgenres lagging behind, crying âyouâre still gonna do guitars and stuff, right?â
WellâŚnot as much anymore. But this era of Radiohead, this career-suicidal swerve, still proved monumentally successful, and showed that the band still had it, and that sometimes artistic risks do pay dividends.
A side note: I usually link music videos for the tracks I discuss as part of each post, as youâll have seen in previous parts of this series. Kid A, however, doesnât have any singles, and it sure doesnât have any music videos. SoâŚmaybe just listen yourself. Iâm probably in over my head here anyway.
I think the first 5 notes of Everything In Its Right Place are some of the most iconic in all of music.
Some personal background- Kid A was the first Radiohead I ever listened to. A particular cool and good mate of mine was a fan in high school, but Iâd never listened to them at all, and I trusted his opinion musically, so I went to buy one of their CDs the next time I was at the shop. And for whatever reason, the cheapest one was Kid A at 10 bucks, and I didnât want to gamble more than that, so thatâs the one I got.
So the opening notes of Everything In Its Right Place were the first Radiohead I ever heard. And considering how much I obsessed over this band, in high school and beyond, itâs no surprise that this song is one of my favourites.
Not only did this song introduce me to Radiohead, it was effectively a gateway track for electronic music in general. This was the early 10s, and the majority of what I knew as electronic stuff was the EDM that was drowning the airwaves at the time. I hated that stuff out of principle, because being a hipster like that was definitely a personality. I donât think I would ever have gotten into Vaporwave, into IDM, or into any electronic music the way I eventually would were it not for Everything In Its Right Place.
Now that Iâve spent 250 words talking about myself and not the actual song, we should probably stop that. Everything In Its Right Place is defined by this steady build of layering vocals and effects onto the relatively calm synth line, distorted vocals and word salad lyrics and manipulated noises growing and getting more chaotic before it just stops- the vocals fade out, the effects drop, and youâre left with the synth line- except itâs been slowly changing itself the whole time, and you donât realise because youâve been distracted by everything else at the same time.
Itâs worth noting (and I donât know if this was the case with OK Computer, because I donât have an original copy of that one) that this was an album without liner notes, without the lyrics in the cover booklet. But at least in this case, the lyrics donât matter as much as the v i b e. At least, thatâs what I think.
On the topic of unintelligible lyrics, Kid A has a title track! I believe literally two Radiohead albums do this, the other being The Bends (though Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows do appear as lyrics). The song itself is an ambient, quiet piece that feels something like a twisted nursery tune- incredibly affected vocals, a syncopated (?) percussion, and a synth (I think???) thatâŚI donât know how to describe it, but it feels nursery-rhyme-y. If youâve heard this song a few times, or you know what to listen for, you can piece together the lyrics somewhat- and they are, frankly, kind of unsettling. What is standing in the shadows at the end of your bed, can it please leave? And imagery of the Pied Piper is always either extremely silly or extremely unnerving, with this clearly leaning towards the latter. Thereâs a lot going on here- especially for a track most probably wouldnât listen to outside the context of the full album. I know I generally donât- not the kind of thing I generally am in the mood for.
Weâre at 850+ words, and weâre only up to The National Anthem? Fuuuuck. Well, anyone who wasnât on board the IDM train can at least appreciate this one more, itâs got an actual bassline. A killer one, at that, that drives the whole track. Well, you know, that and the B R A S S. Seriously, it sounds like they invited a marching band to this bad boy. The combination ends up sounding mostly like controlled chaos, a jazz band traffic jam wound together by that B A S S. But the bass canât hold it forever, and eventually that shit breaks free and just, it just honks all over the place.
Iâm frustratingly running out of things to say about this song I really like, as opposed to the other songs I really liked. Unfortunately, ya boi forgot to take his neurotypicalification pills today, and so Iâm getting very distracted. Hopefully, that slightly unhinged nature suits the album somewhat.
The next song, How To Disappear Completely, is a Big Mood with a fun story attached. The main lyrics- Iâm not here, this isnât happening- were allegedly something none other than Michael Stipe from R.E.M. told Thom to help him deal with that massive stage fright that came with Getting Big. Fun trivia aside, this song is gorgeous, luscious with massive strings, an acoustic bend, aethereal vocals, and a background drone running through the thing that makes sure your hair is always a little on end through the thing. Itâs a song whose lyrics are an attempt to escape anxiety, whose instrumentation serves more to reinforce it- a calm, melodic piece that builds into nervous swells and threatening strings. A song about fighting your fear, and losing.
Fuck me itâs a bit depressing isnât it. Itâs potentially the most emotionally revealing song the album has- a lot of the lyricism on other tracks is more metaphorical, or subtle, but the meaning in How To Disappear Completely is evident even just from the title. You get lost in the strings and they go from calming, to imposing, to downright menacing (and then back again) in the songâs final minute.
Treefingers, on the other hand, has a lot less to say, and by that I mean itâs an instrumental. A very atmospheric, ambient one, and thereby one I donât have a lot to say about. Iâm not sure Iâm particularly good at commenting on regular music, but this kinda thing is a whole different animal. I have no idea how to interact with discussing this. I like it? I will say, that one note right at the end, that echoes for a bit, the one piece of clarity in this muddled, reverbed sphere, feels especially poignant, for reasons I cannot describe.
We go from ambient instrumental to arguable the most rock-song-like track on this album, Optimistic, certified banger that it is. Some might argue that it doesnât fit here, but like, did they even hear the lyrics? The bridge? It more that deserves its place on one of the best albums around. The little way the guitar scales up during the chorus is excellent, the proggy drums and riffs are glorious, itâs just a very good rock song.
Also this is the first song with the lyric âdinosaurs roaming the earthâ, which, aside from being a bit of a non-sequitur, would return two albums later. And Iâm really looking forward to that one.
In Limbo is a song I kind of always forget exists until I hear it again. Itâs antimemetic, the way the song goes slipping from my mind until I hear those opening notes again. Iâm going to be honest, itâs probably because itâs also the most mid song on the album. Far from bad, but it isnât doing anything that How to Disappear Completely or Optimistic arenât doing better. If I had to remove any track from this album, it might be this one?
Watch me get fucking lynched from the fandom for that one, if I ever post this to r/Radiohead or whatever. Which I might, though as much as Iâd like more people to read my things Iâm also extremely anxious about the potential response. Like the album Iâm discussing today, Iâm terrified of fame.
Incidentally, In Limbo is also the shortest track on the album (Treefingers beats it by 11 seconds), though this isnât initially obvious online at least, because people keep messing with Motion Picture Soundtrack. But weâre not there yet, hang on.
We go from the forgettable (to me) In Limbo to the utterly mesmerizing Idioteque. Anxious but danceable, confusing but emotive, messy but tightly controlled. I love this fucking song to death. The reason I got the particular Radiohead poster that I did was because it has lyrics from this on it.
Iâve heard that lyrics for this album were largely pulled from a hat, and nowhere is that more clear than here (or maybe Everything In Its Right Place). Despite this, thereâs a pretty clear theme in them, a continuation of some of the themes of this and the last albums. A condemnation of wealth and cowardice in the face of ecological disaster. In the form of an apocalypse disco.
What a lot of people donât know about this track is that it actually samples an extremely old electronic music piece- one written in 1973, on a particularly old computer. The track, mild und leise, is a very interesting track considering its age- Iâm reminded of Selected Ambient Works by Aphex Twin- not so much musically, but about how that reason was as influential as it was because it was the first time songs had sounded like that, because it was the first time songs could sound like that- I suppose itâs somewhat similar in that way, if older. These pieces and their composers inexorably linked by the allure of technology, and how that could be used to define new eras in music history- in Radioheadâs case, it certainly defined the next few albums in their lifespan.
Jesus mild und leise is long, itâs still going as I write this. I need to get back to Kid A, man!
Idioteque leads directly into Morning Bell, admittedly another less memorable song. Largely percussion lead, plenty of falsetto, and with a very unsubtle theme if you listen to the lyrics. I recall seeing someone saying that âcut the kids in halfâ was a really surprising and spooky line, and, yeah, sure, it sort of is, but itâs only particularly bad if you donât pay attention for the rest of it. Itâs about divorce, dude, itâs not subtle.
Or apparently not, according to one interview, but Thom said the interpretation isnât invalid, so haha still winning baybeeeee.
I think the only part of this I really canât do without is the outro, because the last minute and a half of this song is really cool. The mumbled lyrics go really well with the rising percussion and eerie effects that end the track.
Our final song is Motion Picture Soundtrack, or, Exit Music (for Walt Disneyâs Depression Nap). This and Street Spirit I think are what really cement Radioheadâs reputation for brutal closers, both of them being tragic but hauntingly beautiful in different ways. In this case, itâs the instrumentation- glittering harps attempting the echo 50s Disney. Thereâs actually a version of this song from the OK Computer era with extremely different instrumentation, piano rather than organ, and no harps (and a third verse that is utterly brutal). Regardless, this is the song they chose to close the apocalypse that Kid A is on- the final lyric being âI will see you in the next lifeâ, as the glittering echoes into the night. Poignant and tragic, but a little hopeful- the next life hopefully wonât have the struggles and pain of this one.
And then, of course, thereâs the hidden track. Nicknamed Genchildren by some (thatâs just the username of the dude who uploaded it to Napster back in the day), officially known as Untitled, and the true closer to the album. With Spotify slapping it right at the end of Motion Picture Soundtrack, itâs not clear the true nature of this song- itâs actually hidden on the original album, after several minutes of silence, just long enough that youâve forgotten you left the player running (or youâre still crying from Motion Picture Soundtrack). I donât think thereâs a real word for what this sounds like other than heavenly, and incredibly brief piece Iâve heard compared to the pearly gates. After all, if we end on âI will see you in the next lifeâ, then what can this be but that?
Thus closes Kid A, a gorgeous and powerful album, yet an insane swerve for any rock band to pull, not just Radiohead. A bold strategy, and yet it paid off for them- Kid A would not only be massively influential, it was also massively successful both critically and commercially- but not to the standard of OK Computer before it. But they obviously werenât trying to do OK Computer part 2, just as that album was deliberately not The Bends part 2.
Kid A would pretty much get a Part 2, though, less than a year later. And itâs that album weâll be discussing next week, obviously. Until then.
