Such a good episode! Not plot-heavy, just a silly episode. I'll gladly take it as my late birthday present. And it's great to have Swag back, kinda was half-expecting Chris to just pop out.

I've said this once and I'll say it again: I wouldn't mind if the rest of the year is just filled with goofy episodes. After all, we just came from WOTFI and we do need a bit of a break so the Team could work on the next arc. (From the looks of things, we might get goop!4 *cough cough*)

Loved the bits of animation and Mario's expressions as always.

Now, I know there is some talk about the SMG4 Crew/Mario Does Things being on hiatus and merging with the Saturday videos. If you can even call it that. Personally, I don't mind it. I completely understand if doing 2 episodes per week is a lot for the Team to handle, though I do wish they would give an explanation for it. I think the best solution would be for the Team making an announcement of the change, the reasons behind it, and how it may be different from the regular Saturday episodes. Also make it clear that "hey, the title says this so it doesn't impact the main storyline".

Anyway, it has been overall a pretty funny episode and I quite enjoyed it! Now, if you excuse me, I'm gonna cry my eyes out watching the rest of Arcane Act 3 and bring that angst to the next episode concept :)

bruh this fic made me LAUGH. it wholly deserves the nearly quarter million hits it has jfc. i 100% clicked for the 'jason is a very embarrassing and very supportive ally' tag and it TOTALLY lived up and it was hilarious. he is. will's characterization was SO SO good and the whole fic just had me giggling!!

Hey slug! Obviously it's a bit older now, but I was wondering if you might be able to translate Sougyaran BAM, from Kuko? I feel like I don't quite understand the TLs I have seen, so I was wondering if there were certain references or concepts I'm missing here lol

I saw the email notification of this request at the perfect moment. Too anxious to do work or anything else productive. Too caffeinated to sleep. Fuck it. Time to look at Kuukou for an hour.

Under a cut for length

Like a lot of Kuukou's... well, everything... this song is an eclectic mix of elements that can all more or less be distilled into these couple of bullet points:

Trying to fight the listener

Dropping powerful life advice or Buddhist teachings

Claiming his music is both a game changer and the kind of stuff that gets your blood pumping

Scatting, rhyming without meaning, or otherwise making wordplay

Outside of the parts that are straight-up nonsensical, the majority of the rap is very casual to the point of being rude. However, it's also interspersed with formal religious language. Again, both of these are how Kuukou talks, but I get why this would make it difficult for someone to translate.

I talk about this a lot whenever I translate anything, but an important (and maybe the most important!) part of any translation is determining the methodology, focus, and goals before you begin. I figure that if someone's asking me to look at song lyrics for songs that have been out for years, they probably care a lot more about the minutiae of what the character's saying than if I'm writing a rap as part of a longer work where readers aren't going to give it much attention. In that second case, it's probably more important to convey the appearance of a rap--rhyme, rhythm, what have you--and make sure I'm hitting the overall meaning rather than translate word-for-word. You know? The issue is, translating word-for-word would produce mostly nonsense on this one, since my interpretation of its meaning is largely coming from reading between the lines. There's also no real meaning outside of the four bullet points above. It's all vibes. So, this is a vibe-focused translation. When Kuukou says something with no meaning (that I can tell) outside of wordplay, I've exchanged it with a fresh wordplay. At the same time, since I assume the audience wants to know the minutiae, I put footnotes at the very end for the most curious souls. Finally, outside of wordplay moments, there is no attention paid to rhyming, rhythm, or line length.

Also I spent like forty minutes on it so it isn't a polished work of art or anything of the sort. Lyrics:

[1] This last is literally "clear weather (空)" or "energetic vibes (空)." At face value, it appears to be nonsense for rhyming. However, at the very end of the song, Kuukou talks about "the vibes/the scene (空気)" changing and him changing it (which can also be read as the weather changing/clearing up), which makes me wonder if those two are related. Just in case, I wrote them with a possible connection in English too.

[2] 僧伽藍 (sangharan) is a short form of 僧伽藍摩 (sangharama), a Buddhist temple or monastery. Bam is, of course, the sound of Kuukou throwing hands.

[3] 饒舌 (jouzetsu) is a fairly formal word in Japanese to refer to excessive talking. However, I was surprised to learn in the process of TLing this that it's also Chinese for rapping which appears to be how Kuukou's using it here. Also, if you're curious how English "jazzy" became "razzle-dazzle," I realized near the end of the song that I needed to start this word with the same sound as "rapping" (because he scats the j sound on jazzy and jouzetsu) whereupon I set out to find a good synonym. The issue is, I wasn't sure exactly how the lyric writers were using the term, so I put "jazzy" in an English-to-Japanese dictionary to get "loud, invigorating, eye-catching." Yeah, that's Kuukou all right. "Razzle-dazzle" is similar and starts with an r, so there we go.

[4] The lyrics say "xy な leader" (the な is just indicating that "xy" is being used as an adjective, btw) which I assumed means sexy... ekkusu ii said quickly sounds like sekushii. To be sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree entirely, I ran a quick Twitter search on that line and found a very large number of Japanese Tweeters thinking the exact same thing I was. (It looks like Kuukou's VA once flashed his collarbone on this line in a concert, delighting scores of collarbone lovers everywhere.) That being said, searching anything on Twitter and finding horny Tweets isn't exactly a novel concept. Well, if I'm wrong about this, then at least I'm in the good company of all the thirsty Kuukou fans. Hahaha. If this seems OoC to you, I feel like it's here mainly for fanservice, not necessarily because Kuukou's trying to get some with the person he's beating up and/or preaching at. Although, idk. If you ship Kuukou with anyone, you could very well see some parallels...

[5] Literally "I'll beat up [everything] including the roulette board." Wordplay on rules (ruuru), ruler (ruuraa), and roulette (ruuretto)

[6] Literally "Terapii (therapy), terapii, terapii, tera (temple)-- Oh, the age of temples?" Wordplay/stupid joke

[7] I don't like how I worded this line, but I don't care enough to spend much more time fussing over it. Kuukou's making a joke that, as a monk, he delivers religious sermons 説法. However, in colloquial terms, a 説法 is a telling-off when someone does something undesirable. Kuukou, as a frequent doer of undesirable things, gets these from his dad constantly. Therefore, he's being like, "This isn't the LAME STUPID kind of 説法... this is the kind that ROCKS! *sick guitar riff*"

[8] These two lines seem like complete non sequiturs because they're paired together in Japanese for rhyming. (nami ga dekiru/nani ga mieru)

[9] I admit that I'm struggling to understand this line because the grammar is very irregular. Japanese Twitter is not being especially helpful here, as most Tweets featuring it are some version of "God, this damn song is stuck in my head."

[10] Literally "[Someone] changes the atmosphere/scene. The atmosphere/scene changes." See note 1

Yeah! I’d said DMs before cause I wasn’t sure if I wanted to put it all out there yet, considering it has been forever since I saw 2012 so my recollection is vague. And sure Good Dad Shredder could be done for really any iteration with Shredder and Karai but this is particularly for 12. So uh. Apologies in advance for anything I misremember but hey it’s an au anyways lol. Under a cut cause it’s long.

- Most important bit of this to me is that Shredder really doesn’t lie to Karai a whole lot. He makes it clear he hates her father but had no real ill will towards her mother and since Yoshi hadn’t come for her after the fire he took on raising her as her Uncle. (Will probably need to change a bit of what happened with all that but oh well) Hell, legally her name is still Hamato Miwa and she goes by Miwa at school. Karai is just what Saki calls her as a nickname cause she’s stubborn as hell.

- Despite being fully trained and able, she’s not allowed to join in any revenge plots and she Will be grounded if he finds out she’s been fighting the Turtles instead of doing homework.

- Speaking of the Turtles, Saki has no real issue with them and would rather not fight children. In fact it’s another point on his list of reasons he hates Splinter cause why are Teens out there doing vigilante shit. This is also an issue he has with his henchmen cause he keeps telling them to leave the kids alone but they all have individual beef with the turtles and keep trying to fight them.

- Saki has like. Normal Guy hobbies and activities outside of revenge. He teaches beginner martial arts classes at the local rec center on Thursdays.

- The big reveal is not that Karai is Miwa but that when confronted with that information she’s like ‘Uh yeah of course I am’ and is just fully embracing the revenge plots. Or, trying to without being grounded.

- The Kraang are a major issue though so Karai and the Turtles are able to strongarm Saki and Splinter into a truce but Karai still sees Saki as her dad despite him never letting her call him that, and Splinter has to deal with letting her go.

Bonus: Karai and April actually go to the same school but were never in any of the same classes until one semester they are and are assigned to do a project together and April has a bizarrely normal time at their house.

Okay this is gonna be super long but you asked for it :)

Here's like the general senopsis of my FMA aus (plus some of the art I've made for them)

Some general head canons that I have that apply to all of my Aus:

Both Elrics' are autistic and Ed has ADHD (alchemist special interests for both of them obviously. Al also has a cat special interest)

Ed is trans. I love both transfemme and transmasc Ed but typically I lean toward transmasc because I'm transmasc and I am also Ed /hj

Hohenhiem is not white and by extension Ed and Al are mixed (in my modern au that means they are both half Iranian half German because Xerxise is based on the Persian empire which, in modern day, would be Iran)

Gonna start with the one that started it all: my modern au!

I made this au because I was super pissed off about people erasing the Elrics' disabilities in their modern aus lol. (See my #modern FMA rambles for incoherent rambling about that lol) I'm not certain of the specifics for what each character will be doing in that au (I mostly see highschool age Ed and Mustang as his chemistry teacher but I want to do something different) I know Ed lost his limbs in a house fire and I got really attached to the idea of firefighter Mustang so there's a few possibilities with that. I was also thinking the government as a corrupt college that Ed works at/attends could be fun but I don't know exactly how that would work.

The characters I have the most fleshed out are Ed and Al purely because they are the reason I made the au in the first place. Ed lost his right arm and left leg in a house fire. He has a prosthetic leg but no prosthetic arm (hand prosthetics other than hooks only really exists for people who still have their arm below the elbow and Ed's arm was amputated at the shoulder and I don't think Ed would want a prosthetic arm unless the technology got a lot better) I really want to dye his hair black because he totally would but I'm afraid that's a step to far in terms of recognizability :(

Al has an undecided genetic disorder inherited from Trisha yippee! He has issues with insomnia and depersonalization and he's gonna have an arc at some point experimenting with gender identity and expression but I haven't decided yet if he's trans lol. He's an ambulatory wheelchair user so sometimes he uses crutches but he typically just uses his chair. He also has a feeding tube (and list of things he wants to eat when he finally can again). He also has a cat named Cheeto and she's his emotional support animal (esa) because that's what he deserves God damnit.

I'm missing a few loose sketches for all these aus because they're back at my parents house :(

Bonus Ed because this is what his room looks like but I drew him with automail for some reason?

Okay onto my Ed and Mustang role swap au:

Basically Ed is a colonial in the military when Roy joins as a state Alchemist (at age 18). So there's all that goes along with that. The major focus of the story would pretty much be the original story but Ed is mustang and mustang is Ed. Unfortunately my pea brain has decided to focus on the 'that means Ed had to fight in the Ishvalin war of extermination' aspect of the story lol. Oh did I mention Al's armor rejected his soul so he's dead in this au? Because he's dead in this au :)

I've mostly been working out timeline stuff for this one rn. but yeah, this is the super angsty one lol.

Ed had to cut his hair for his service in Ishval.

Don't have much art for this one because it's the newest lol

Last but certainly not least my post cannon au aka the Marco didn't have that extra philosopher's stone au:

This one's pretty much what it says it is. I personally hate magical cures for disabilities and the ending for FMA always sat a little weird with me so this is pretty much mostly about mustang learning to adapt to being blind now :) he's still working in the military to make amends. Also black hyate is his seeing eye dog and I just get to draw a bunch of royai being a great team :))

It's also gonna focus a lot on Al's recovery because that's really important to me :))

Now you may be wondering 'is Niko actually capable of making a fluffy au????' because this all seems super fluffy so far. Wrong! There's a little bit of angst mostly just there is no fucking way that Ed's arm would be fine after getting impaled by a rusty piece of crowbar I'm sorry. So yeah Ed had to get his arm amputated right after getting it back I'm sorry. He doesn't really mind too much because he's used to having automail it's honestly just more of an irritation to him that he's now going to have to relearn how to write for a second time. Al feels awful about it though.

I don't have any of the art for this au anymore :((((( rip that one drawing I did of post cannon Ed that looked weirdly like Brosh you are missed.

I'll try to take pictures of the other au drawings and post them next time I'm at my parents house but no promises I'll actually remember.

The Thing About Redesigns, Rewrites, and Reimagines…

(Part I: Broader Discourse)

To those of you who’ve been keeping tabs or maybe seen my posts floating around the tag, you might recall me mentioning that I felt a bit of hesitancy toward the prospect of joining in on the recent wave of redesign/rewrite content. In the more likely scenario that you haven’t or do not know what the crap I’m talking about, that’s fine lol. Understandable. It was a little thing I had written into my first rewrite/redesign post about Charlie. In a short aside, I explained that it was because I’d felt “bad about tinkering with someone else’s work like this”, and then I’d left it at that. So… yeah. Why am I bringing it up now?

Well, I don’t think I need to tell you that this fandom is… a lot. Y’know people have been talking…discourse is being had… heated, moral arguments are being hurled left and right. And in light of all the growing, reactionary accusations, I…found myself starting to feel bad again.

My initial issue, the reason why I didn’t immediately jump to sharing my ideas was that, for all her faults, I empathize with Viv as a creator and didn’t want to feel like I was disrespecting her, her characters, and her vision by reworking it to suit my own. I had frustrations and criticisms, but I never wanted to make it seem like I was trying to ‘fix’ her work or her style. I really didn’t want to be one of those pretentious dipsh*ts (the kind that take a piece of art, digest it through their own preferences and biases, then spit it back in the artist’s face with a, “There. I made it better”). In the end, I went through with it because I had a small hyperfixation and a tendency to project my own issues onto characters I love (I’m sure some of y'all can relate). And also, I was having fun. But… then more discourse poured in, and I saw all the concerns I expressed reflected in the arguments presented by other fans and artists.

And well… That made me feel like I was doing something wrong, like perpetuating and becoming the exact problems I had wanted to fight against. So, I took a step back. I reevaluated.

Now, I have thoughts (shocker!).

And they are conflicted.

On one hand I agree with the idea that redesigns/rewrites are not inherently bad or disrespectful things when it comes to productions like Hazbin since Viv is not a small creator with no power. She and her team have ultimate authority over the show’s events, and those plans will not be derailed by what is basically some random tumblr artist’s fanart/fanfiction.

In regards to the critical side of things, that kinda comes with consuming and digesting the messages and presentation of a work of art. Ideally, it should get people to discuss in this capacity, especially when it deals with such sensitive subject matter as Hazbin does (and especially when it is executed with evidently problematic notions which do bleed into the designs at times).

Still, I do think this trend can be disrespectful if the intention and presentation are made with an aggressive holier-than-thou attitude which explicitly seeks to one-up the creator. Though I understand where it comes from, I think that can be just straight, undiluted maliciousness with a generous helping of pretentious, self-appointed superiority. And I don’t think it’s necessary to pick apart the style itself. You don’t have to like it, of course, but I feel like stating your preference for one way of drawing over another and asserting it as if it were some objective truth antagonizes the entire point of individual artistic expression and personal taste. Criticize the lack of diversity (something which, I’d like to add, is not actually unique to Hazbin) and potentially problematic aspects, but not the style. Even then, it’s important to be constructive not destructive.

That being said, I don’t expect everyone to agree with me (especially if anyone who’s a die-hard fan finds this) Whether you do or not is on you, and that’s okay.

This is more a snippet of my thoughts than a fully developed rant. I just wanted to share where I’m at right now. There will be a part 2 to this expanding some of my feelings while also outlining where I might go from here because things are going on in my head, and I don’t actually know whether I will continue or not with this project. - First of all, I'm very sorry for my unusual inactivity on here. I have been kind of inactive on Instagram, DeviantArt, X and Discord. Why? Because of external factors that don't let me continue with the activity I was used to on these social media applications. I won't lie either: I have been dealing with a lot of shit in real life and within my sentimental universe fighting art block, depression, low self-esteem issues, self-harm temptations and anxiety caused by certain personal stuff I don't think it would be adequate to mention on here.

I also am currently dealing with breathing system infections and a strong cold that doesn't gets away from my body yet. I haven't visited any doctor yet. I'm just letting my body fight for itself and take down all the infections in my poor breathing system. I wanna heal but it's taking longer than it should and that truly worries me but refuse to seek for professional help. I'm taking vitamin C pills to strengthen my immune system and help it fight the infections.

Also the fact I have been on current projects about Minecraft, Portal and Nimona doesn't mean I did forget about them. No, I totally haven't. I'm just taking a long break under my own time availability to heal and feel better. Also art block and the strong feeling that someone is about to steal/copy my ideas takes my motivation away from me and leaving me unable to get myself secure and confident about my own imaginative world. And no, I'm not talking about my friends or followers. Just saying that I have that feeling when I'm about to develop a unique a creative original idea for a story, comic or crossover. You know, I'm overly protective and jealous of my own imaginative universe and that's why I care too much about my work being properly done, protected and well-developed. I can't tolerate anyone coming up with a coincidence about certain ideas that are already mine.

Omg, I am being quite sincere today lol. But yeah, don't take this personal. Just hope you understand.

Good news: I recently joined the Godzilla Fandom so expect some epic crossovers between these Fandoms I'm already in. I can't wait to show some unique concepts! :'D

Fang X Bark is a good ship I like it, fang has two hands he can date both bark and Corsen he’s a bisexual motherfucker.

If trip does become a member of team hooligan, her and bean have to have sibling vibes.

The Marvelous Queen is a big fan of gamma, the garage is filled with fucking gamma merch. Fang has to explain each time this isn’t his, it’s the queens.

I’ve seen many oc x fang art, and I am proud to be in that group. But what I’ve noticed is that most have the “talk shit at each other in affection “ route which I also love! But Corsen doesn’t work that way at all.

I imagine if the hooligans got a super form, fang would be able to summon a billion of corks, big or small, and launch them at his foes with the snap of his fingers! Bark would be able to use ice powers, summon giant icebergs and fire snowballs, maybe throw a giant snowman at enemies hell yeah lets get silly! And bean just summons a nuke, OH FUCK.

I headcanon that in the modern world, the hooligans become a band! All the music with lyrics that you hear throughout the games is just fucking team hooligan! Especially the music in frontiers, Female lyrics is either Corsen or honey, but most of the singing is done by fang, bark has the guitar, bean is on the drums, and the Queen is on keyboard. Some times fang gets the bloody piano out because I know you read Archie if you headcanon fang plays the piano! Lets go!

Fang is known for not only having bad luck, but also being very cartoony, Wild E. Coyote vibes he gives, but whenever Corsen is nearby, his luck increases, so you could say Corsen is his good luck charm.

Fang and bean get scared easily by anything horror related, bark usually has to be there with them to be the “emotional support teddy bear”

In defense of rise changing their design and personalities

What's a quick way to make sure your version of a franchise gets hate? Change something

Jk, but let's be real, a lot of people didn't even give rise a chance because it wasn't loyal to what a lot of people are used to.

Leo is not the leader, Raph is not a yelling angry guy, Don is not a nerd and mikey isn't the dumb dorky dude anymore. And they're different turtles!? How dare they!

Well nobody asked so i'm here to defend everything because i'm bored!

Why am i insisting? They're literally still what we know them to be

1- Leo's still the leader

I have a full on rant about it already but yeah, trust me, Leo is still leader material, you just have to trust him and let it cook a bit. We're able to join him on his journey to overcome his self-doubt and accept that he can't do everything on his own and trust those he loves around him.

2- Trust me, Raph is still angry

But this version of him focuses more on giving him a healthy oultlet. One of my biggest pet peeve's with most of Raph's versions, is that they portray his anger as something that he needs to learn to hide and contain or else he will never be nothing more than a problem to team (I'M GENERALIZING A LOT, I DON'T ACTUALLY THINK THIS ABOUT RAPH, I LOVE HIM IN EVERY UNIVERSE).

I think there are a lot of ways to express and portray anger. I've struggled with stress induced-anger my whole life and i think rise Raph is a good example on how your anxieties and worry can make you show a bad side of yourself sometimes. Honestly, i think a lot of Raph's versions have this same problem: he cares for his family so much and is constantly afraid something bad will happen to them, he constantly compares himself to the team and is afraid they don't respect him. He desperately wants his brothers to take their training seriously so they can be ready when danger strikes. EVERY RAPH HAS THESE ISSUES (kind of?) but rise is more vocal about it.

This Raph has channeled his stress and anger towards his position as the leader. He doesn't fight with leo because he wants to be the leader, he fights with leo because he wants to make him understand how much he needs his family to be safe, he's the leader because needs to make sure his brothers are safe. He still yells because he wants his brothers to take training seriously, he just is more of a softie about it because he has learned to take out his anger issues towards the bag guys that threaten his family.

3- Don is still a nerd

Trust me, he's still dorky, the only problem is that this version of him is not willing to be stepped over and ignored. He's brilliant and he knows it, he just wants his family to recognize his talent, to understand him and tell him how much they value him.

This is something we've seen with 2012 donnie before too, they're sarcastic and snap back when someone disrespects him. They're brilliant and won't let anyone make them feel like less

4-Mikey was never "the dumb one"

I mean- sure! He gets babyfied a lot and is the one to receive the cowabunga surferboy attitude but he's always been so much more! Not because you act less seriously does that mean you don't take it as such. You can be the life of the party and wreck bullie's shit! Have y'all not seen the last ronin? lol he is talented and as great a ninja as his brothers

5- and lastly, the new designs

Sure the turtles might have started with their signature likeness but they've changed so much already.

They started as black and white caricatures, four identical brothers with red bandannas, then got color coded and have even been tweaked here and there across the years! Time changes and art evolves, of course the turtles will eventually change in a way that represents more properly their personalities and 2012, rise and mutant mayhem have done such a great job at it

Do you look the same as when you were born? What about when you were a kid? No! Let art grow with us, let stories be changed to represent their own world

Besides, let's be real, the being different turtles thing it's so cool that i'm surprised it wasn't thought about before. It's also perfect match to their personalities!

Need to properly represent a soft but intimidating character? A snapping turtle it's amazing for Raph! Due to popular belief; besides their fiery personality, snapping turtles are known to be timid. But oh boy, they're completely defensive and can definately attack when threatened, much like our big boy's personality

Why is mikey a box turtle? Well, how to better represent his youthful friendly attitude than with a species that's literally known to be bold, adventurous and friendly! Also, it only gets better when you consider their outgoing personality is cutely tied to their response to danger (cue their ability to hide completely inside their shell) which kind of reminds us that in this version, mikey is canonically the youngest.

I answered this one for Morganite on another ask, but I'm gonna give another, because she just has so much hate and disdain stored up in that gemstone, ahah-

I have a silly OC headcanon that half-Gem Jean Maverick ends up introducing the game of billiards to Gemkind at Little Homeschool. Well, a modified version of the game that's about scoring points for the most mathematically "sick AF" shots eventually ends up spreading like wildfire across the galaxy proper, and plenty of Morganite's lackeys are sucked into it, playing it constantly. Thus, she really, really fucking hates billiards. It's constantly distracting her troops from their duties. Yet another way that damned hybrid keeps thwarting her plans.

Oh, absolutely fight.

With the circumstances she's lived through (a viscous war, a life partner defecting to join rebels, one's diamond being shattered and having to be re-assigned and rebuild one's reputation under a new leader-) she's easily paranoid, and always wide alert. You really do NOT want to sneak up on her, or spring anything unexpected.

Courtier era Tourmaline tells people that she wants to be seen as the most intelligent, knowledgeable Gem in the room. Tourmalines are like... the bookkeepers, the ones who actually WRITE the history- at their Diamonds' behest, of course- and so it is their duty to be in the Know about everything happening around them at all times.

In reality though, all Tourmaline really wants is to make people laugh. To enjoy lasting conversation. To make an impression. For so, so many years, other Gems only saw her as like... a tool, a means to access knowledge, just a living repository for facts, but she wants people to gravitate to her because of who she IS, not what she can give.

The SMALLEST morally questionable choice? Well... hmm. I mean, she was a strategist in a war, so there were plenty of BIG morally questionable choices... but small?

The reason why these memes are so fun is that sometimes they inspire me to pull shit right out of my ass on the spot. Anyways, one day Tourmaline was sharpening her sword in Bismuth's forge at her permission and accidentally like, broke one of her tools.

She never fessed up to it, and eventually one of Bismuth's weapon smith apprentices gets blamed for it instead.

22- What simple activity that most people do / can do scares your character?

Eating food freely without having to scrounge over the nutrition labels to look at ingredients. Like damn, how do these people live?

The reason why is that Jean has a gluten intolerance- it's not... entirely so bad that it's a full-out allergy, but life is simply easier if they go to the effort of avoiding it as much as they can. This is a big reason why they always envied Gems growing up, in how they don't need to eat or drink or sleep to remain operational- just access to light.

Jean really wishes they weren't saddled down with this half-human bit a lot, suffice it to say. Surely everything would be sooo much easier if they were just a Gem. (So they believe.)

31- When do they feel the most guilt? How do they respond to it?

In the wake of drastic events that come far later, Jean ends up saddled with guilt in how they handled their first encounter with Morganite. They feel that Little Homeworld and Beach City wouldn't have come under such fire if they had acted more decisively that day- poofed her, perhaps, instead of simply cornering her to be ultimately led off in the custody of Homeworld reform officers.

Their way of dealing with all this stress and the needless what-ifs is by completely wearing themself to the bone around the clock in the manhunt for Morganite after her vicious attack on Little Homeworld/Beach City. Jean simply cannot rest until this loose end is tied up completely, and they will absolutely face negative bodily repercussions due to this.

like whenever I think of Lawrence / Adam I always see Lawrence as not completely attempting to cut the habit out but definitely making an effort to lower it. Also very vividly see Lawrence smoking once in a blue moon when shit gets rough because he needs the edge off and something something associations. I'm just curious how you view Hoffman in Adam's relationship to that. Hoffman has his own issues with substance abuse (drinking relentlessly and all) so like. lots to think on!

It clear that no one was really spying in this town. So, for this kid to suddenly be taking Damian’s ‘commands’ and following suit as though he’s LoA loyal is just... Bullshit. 

But NOOO the family insists- They’re saving this poor boy who grew up in the league’s influences and trainings as a spy!! Tim just scoffs, with what supervision? He’s clearly just some dude who had a fucked up childhood. 

Noooo his family insists- We need to take him home and give him the birth family that he must have always wanted! Tim rolls his eyes so hard at them as the kid’s “assignment” sister weeps her goodbyes in secret to Danny when they’re certain (lol) no one is listening.

NOOOoooo his family insists- He can’t yet know about the family legacy as Bats or the cave under the manor, he has to acclimate to being normal first! As if the kid didn’t have two friends in his corner telling him to take the opportunities allotted by being a Wayne through their tears. Tim just reads the family’s behavior as Damian being unwilling to lose the title of Robin (which, Ha.) but also knows that Danny thinks they’re hella suspicious. Did none of the bats read his folder and the subsection about Vladimir Masters?? 

Danny gets to the manor and isolates himself as much as possible. He’s joining them for mealtimes and saying nothing- ask about his day and he’ll talk about the weather. Damian is clearly trying his best to invite him into his own hobbies, caring for his animals and various arts, but Danny just looks at him and says, “Is that an order?” each time. 

Which honestly, is hilarious to watch with Tim’s perspective that this Kid is So Done (tm) but is heart breaking for the rest of the family. 

Eventually, after 4 hours of sleep and a decent number of espresso shots in his abomination of a cafe order, Tim looks at Danny and asks if he wants to take the plane back to Amity Park for the weekend. 

“UH- Wh- Why do you think I would want to do that? Do you uh, need me to do that?” Danny fumbles being a ‘league trained puppet’ for just long enough that Tim smiles genuinely and devises a plan. 

“Actually, yeah. Your reports were kind of shit. And obviously it’s not an order or anything, but the plane will be free and on autopilot to your town tomorrow at 10 am, and it would be dope if you wanted to uh, do recon or whatever with your friends.” Tim looks him dead in the eyes and gives him the out. 

“...I mean, I’m sure my allies could use the leadership for the data collection.” Danny looks genuinely stumped but also increasingly excited. 

“Cool. Have fun.” and then Tim leaves and gets to hear a near silent ‘woop!’ in the background. 

Thus, Danny starts disappearing on the weekends and no one wants to listen when Tim says that it’s a good thing that he’s coming back to Gotham at all. 

...

Danny, meanwhile, is trying to have his cake and eat it too. 

He’s spending time with his friends every weekend, catching up with Jazz on the regular (she’s trying to get into GU and they’re all certain she will), and fighting with his rogues on a weekly basis. He hasn’t had to dip out of class in months because the Ghosts don’t want to leave amity’s ectoplasm rich environment (and don’t cause havoc without him there- and the Fenton’s hunting him is now down to one day out of seven instead of 7 of 7)- So his grades and sleep schedule are actually thriving. For as weird as the Waynes are, at least they spoil his hobby of astronomy (its the one detail he gave them about his true self). AND he’s never been more reassured that the League is actually going to leave him alone. 

He starts to give the siblings a chance now that he has this kind of balance restored internally, and honestly, they’re really dorky but he can tell they all want to love him and be loved in return. 

His major reason for doing so being his middle brother knowing way too fucking much for someone who didn’t grow up in the compound- but the guy totally saw through him and gave him an out to go back and forth to Amity. He’s pretty sure the rest of the family is giving Tim shit for it, so Danny might have to come up with a new cover soon but for right now he’s good. 

All things have to come to an end in Danny’s life though, so it’s only a matter of time before Damian steps in and demands that Danny stop engaging with his formal life. His twin hid himself on the Wayne Plane (it rhymes and Danny loves that) and the confrontation only ended when the rest of the family minus Tim appeared from the shadows to hold an intervention. 

It takes all the strength Danny has to finally do what he’s been wanting to do this whole time: Explain that they were all wrong about him being spy-brained and that he’d rather fuck off into another dimension than pretend they’re all a family together when he doesn’t even know them. 

Tim arrives at this point and the rest of the family turn to him like- Did you know this whole time?? 

And Tim responds: “What? Like how Bruce wasn’t actually dead, and you all called me crazy for knowing that he was lost in time? You’re trying to say that none of you learned from that and continued to not listen to me?”

The family is ashen faced and Danny is mouthing the word “time?” in confusion when Tim continues staring directly at Danny: “You guys don’t even know the half of it.” 

“What does that mean?” Danny challenges, not liking the way Tim smirked saying Half- Danny knows he’s probably extrapolating too far but... could Tim have figured him out? 

“Well, your middle name isn’t Bill.” Tim deadpans and Danny gets the Inviso-Bill reference immediately. Fuck. The rest of the family however, is lost. 

“Of course his middle name is not ‘Bill’ nor is it ‘William’ that would be unbecoming for an Al Ghul.” Damain says, clearly exasperated. 

“You have a lot to learn about your twin dude, and I for one, am done trying to explain supernatural shit to you guys. Sometimes the most logical conclusion isn’t the one writing piss poor reports without a heartbeat.” Tim deadpans at first before sighing into his next points. The family pauses on that statement for a second but seeing Danny cringe- Oh fuck?? is the resounding thought. 

Bruce is the first one to pull out of that Stun Lock. 

“Danny, do you truly not feel as though you’re part of our family? Would returning to the Fentons...be best for you?” Bruce asks, showing the most humility he ever has in that second question. 

And Danny is a bit surprised with himself, because if he’s being honest, he’s really been thriving since the Waynes kidnapped him into their lives. 

“I mean... This is probably the best I’ve ever had it. I have a normal schedule and I still get friend time. I mean, short of having a government agency up my asshole, this is the safest I’ve ever been. You guys do your weirdo billionaire shit in the evenings, why can’t I just have the weekends to myself?” 

“What government Agency?” Tim asks, but his feral grin gives away that he might know definitely knows exactly which agency. 

“Tim didn’t you shut down another illegal government act and its sanctions two weeks ago?” Babs asks over the computer speaker on the Wayne-Plane. The rest of the family seems to think this is a normal thing and Danny is questioning all of his life choices. Who the fuck was this dude???

“Who the fuck are you dude?” Danny can’t restrain himself from asking. 

“Red Robin.” Tim deadpans, and it’s a light bulb moment for Danny. 

“Wait- then- You all- If He’s then- Wait. WAIT.” Danny progressively looks more and more franticly around the room. Before finally his eyes land on his twin. 

“My guy. I like you so much better now that I know you’re Robin.” 

“Tt. Of course you would.” Damian says easily though it’s clear he has something else he wants to say. 

“If you guys are all heroes, and both the league and the GIW are gone... Would, would it be cool if I kept staying with y’all? I mean, I still want my trips to Amity and all but, uh, maybe we got off on the wrong foot?” Danny proposes with a cringe. 

Needless to say, the family dynamic shifts after that day. 

For the record, Tim is the family’s best detective, and he’s been given the bragging rights to say as much. 

Dpxdc AU: Damian decides that it’s time to go collect his brother from his assignment. Danny is starting to sniff out some non-ghostly bullshit for once.

Damian knew his twin had been exiled from the age of seven, banished to travel and observe how scientists around the world engaged with Lazarus water. The only word that Damian received that his spare was still alive were the letters of lab reports and findings that were sent back to base. As the Heir, he’s pushed to be better lest he himself be exiled or simply executed. Danny becomes a fleeting thought and then once Damian arrived in Gotham, a none existent thought.

They weren’t raised to be friends or even friendly. The were not taught codependency or allotted time to bond. The could have been perfect strangers if not for their appearance and the stories of Danny’s shortcomings becoming Damian’s praise.

It’s only once Tim informs him of an intercepted letter, one sent and saved from years prior, that Damian recalls Danny enough to care. Tim prompts him to share more, especially given the coup recently committed by Deathstroke (Slade) and Talia gone into hiding with her zealots.

At family dinner that night Damian supplies: “I suppose I should be the one to bereave my twin of his assignment. His reports will certainly go unread.”

Chaos in the Batfam ensues- meanwhile across the country- Danny sneezes and finishes writing his yearly report: “No major discoveries aside from public record patents (attached), No assistance required. -Spare”. He doesn’t know why he bothers, he hasn’t received any contact from his mother or grandfather since he was 10ish and certainly hasnt thought about his twin. But, if there’s a chance (even an itty bitty one) that his reports are being read and are holding off his reassignment, he’d rather keep assassins out of Amity Park.

Little does he know that this letter is about to be intercepted by Pru, former assassin and friend of Tim Drake. He hadn’t expected his twin to suddenly arrive and tell him that his job was done. And certainly, seeing a plane filled with an uncomfortable looking ‘family’ that requested he join them and get to know Gotham and his birth father, was not on his bingo list.

Danny does his best to let them down gently- and they seem to be accepting that he’s acclimated to this weird little town and will leave him be- when Danny suddenly has to transform into Phantom in front of them to handle a rocket sent by Skulker.

They are less willing to accept his appeal to be left alone after that… Damian is trying to “bond” with him and all the others are trying to “help” in their own way.

Sam and Tucker howl with laughter at Danny’s suddenly very large family- all while secretly working with the Wayne’s to get Danny the fuck away from the Fentons before the scientists do something they can’t undo.
