still i think the one of the more fun differences drawn between illario and lucanis that was lost would be illario's ability to endear himself to others but serious lack of empathy, vs. lucanis' (self perceived) inability to be charming but how much he cares. it's interesting that the game has gone with the "lucanis' ability vs illario's lack thereof" because i think illario being the dellamorte 'best in show dog' vs. lucanis' attack dog would have made me so unwell.
lucanis is... awkward. he's not unlikable, because he is usually very polite, but he doesn't speak much and only seems to care about the other dellamortes. he once sent viago de riva a knife with no note (who knows what he could have meant by this). he does what caterina asks of him, and by his own admission, cannot say no to her. he is a dramatic and prolific killer, and that makes how untouchable he is even worse.
and the crows like illario, sure, AND he's a good assassin! he's even a good crow! he's so good that he can make lucanis smile, and so he is the charming, sociable one. he's the one that stays in treviso and can be relied upon to care, illario's even the one people prefer over caterina and lucanis!
but illario is decoration. he's the prize poodle, and even if poodles were bred to be working dogs, nobody will ever pick him to protect the house over the german shepherd that regularly mauls intruders. anyways the analogy is getting away from me. the point i'm trying to make is that i want illario to have a different kind of jealousy/hatred that's not just over 'being bad at killing' but also an arrogant loathing for everyone around him that is getting harder to hide, because they've forgotten he can bite and is just itching to rip someone's jugular out. illario is very good at hiding his family resemblance to caterina, while lucanis suffers under his grandmother's, and his own, reputation.

I feel like so many people characterize Cass as this perfect angel who can do no wrong and never messes up that they have completely forgotten that Cass is a weirdo in her 20s who has beat up everybody at this point just because she could.

Tumblr vs Count Dracula
From Re:Dracula's bonus episode with Matt:
Matt: "I love every meme and every drawing that makes Dracula himself looked like an asshole. Because that's my favorite thing about the way people on Tumblr, especially, interpreted and read, Dracula together. Because Dracula, in a lot of culture, is this like suave, cool, sexy vampire. Yes, he's going to murder people, but he's going to do it in such a way that he's like the hero, right?
Hannah: A very romantic hero.
Matt: Yeah, yeah! Yeah, exactly. And Tumblr was having zero of this. This Dracula, the one in the actual text, is a jerk who is gaslighting, abusing, stalking, murdering and nobody was rooting for Dracula at all. So every meme that makes fun of Dracula warms my heart."

i just had a very hilarious idea
at the end of the WCI arc, when the Retrieval Squad are safe and heading towards Wano, Nami laments that she had somewhat hoped to get the chance to steal some money from Big Mom
and then Ichiji, the madlad, just untucks his shirt and lifts it up. what happens? sacks with Berry and jewelry falls down on the lawn deck
Ichiji casually reveals that that he, just hours before the Whole Cake Wedding Assasination, decided to sneak and raid so much treasure from his and Sanji's sire.
"child support." he simply says. "with interest, of course."
Nami, of course, get Berry sign in her eyes and just says "Ichiji...you know that you're my best friend, right?" and Ichiji just smiles, a real genuine smile for the first time since Dressrosa, and says "of course, Nami dearest. would you have the honor to keep these safely?"
but it's on one condition; Ichiji wants to keep a specific jewelry box that belonged to his and Sanji's mother Sora.
while Nami is busy counting the money, Sanji and Ichiji sits together and looks in their mother's jewelry box, remembering and admiring the beautiful necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets she used to own. there is also old photographs, hand-written notes and small bottles with perfume from the North Blue.
Sanji wanted Nami to have some, but she declined and said she didn't need it. Nami understood perfectly well that it was Ichiji and Sanji's late mother's things
none of them are sure what to do with the jewelry box and its' contents, but Ichiji simply stole it back because he didn't had the heart to leave it behind
also later
Sanji: *cooking lunch* WAIT you stole all that from the treasury and then fought with sacks of gold and jewels in your clothes?! Ichiji: what, like it's hard? *sips wine like an absolute icon*
also bonus
post-Wano, Zoro absolutely threw himself in the ocean for a swim when he saw Sanji wearing his mother's sapphire and gold earrings. the marimo claimed the weather was hot when they were actually closer to a spring island.
Nami called bullshit on that lol

the thing that sets apart hua cheng from most other devotee/worshipper-type relationships in other media is that hua cheng would actually throw himself on his knees and crawl across the floor if xie lian wanted to, he would demean himself without shame because shame comes from the perception that you have done something wrong or foolish in another's eyes, and hua cheng would never see his god's will as either, nor care for anyone's else's opinion

I love Canon Remus and all of his flaws. Enough of this "Casanova of Gryffindor Tower" BS, Remus is the cowardly lion of Gryffindor tower. He values bravery because it is something that he lacks and yet still strives to be. He has an ingrained sense of shame and self-loathing and an inferiority complex that stems from society's contempt and marginalization towards Lycanthropy, a condition he was cursed with from a very young age. He wasn't a leader, he was a follower. A blind follower who believed to his core that he was unworthy of love and respect because of what he was.
Which opens the door to what I believe to be Remus' greatest flaw: His unwavering, unquestioning devotion to Albus Dumbledore.
I think Remus saw Dumbledore as the perfect encapsulation of Good. He was everything that Remus desperately wanted to be, everything that society was determined to believe a werewolf could never be. And maybe, if Remus could earn (and cling to) Dumbledore's favor and make him proud, he would prove to the world and himself that he is Good, too, in spite of his lifelong curse.
Remus felt that he owed Dumbledore a debt he could never hope to repay for allowing this chronically ill little boy into his school when no werewolf before him had ever been given such an opportunity. So many of Remus' choices in canon stem directly from this imagined debt that he had dedicated his life to paying. Hell, he didn't even hold a grudge against Snape for OUTING HIM to the entire wizarding world simply because Dumbledore trusted him.
Remus trusted Dumbledore wholeheartedly. And Dumbledore personally saw to Harry's placement with the Dursleys. Why should Remus have considered, for even a moment, that Harry wasn't safe? Certainly far safer than he would have been with a monster in close proximity, as Remus believed himself to be. In his mind, staying away from Harry was what was best for Harry. Until Dumbledore needed a favor, that is.
It's reductive to suggest that Remus failed Harry (and by extension, James) for putting his trust in Dumbledore to do right by Harry. James and Sirius trusted Dumbledore, too. They all did. Stripping away all of the nuance and blaming the abuse Harry suffered on Remus is simply unfair. NO ONE helped Harry, not even those who were fully equipped to do so, and Remus was the farthest thing from being equipped to take that on, what with being an impoverished werewolf living in a society that reviles his very existence. The only person who could have saved Harry from the abuse was the very man that placed him in that home, the very man that Remus revered with blind conviction.

Bradley looks around the bar. None of his friends are in sight and the quiz is meant to start in less than five minutes. Their regular, weekly, quiz, which they all confirmed they were coming to not even two hours ago. And yet here he sits alone, nursing his bottle of beer and picking at his bowl of fries. He’s been stood up by his friends. Assholes.
“Where’s the rest of your team?”
“Good question,” Bradley mutters sulkily, then turns to look at how has addressed him and he scowls. It’s the hyper-competitive guy from one of the other teams, the one who had shoved Bradley out of the way one time during a spot-prize round, tossed a you snooze, you lose over his shoulder and since then he’s sort of hated the guy. Of course, he’s let all his friends know about it too, ignored their sighs and eye rolls at his dark muttering; reminded him that it was meant to be fun. Not whatever thing he was turning it into.
“You can always join our team for the night? If you want? Give you a taste of what winning feels like.”
Bradley wants to be petty, wants to stomp off, wants to shove him.
But his friends have made him come here and then left him alone. He’s not an idiot. Maybe he should have lightened up before they took to drastic measures.
He looks at the other guy's easy smile, he’s clearly not been stewing by how annoying Bradley is, and he’s not sure how he feels about that.
                “Thanks. Buy you a drink?”
“Yeah. I’ll have what you’re having. Name’s Jake.”
“Bradley.”
“Bradley,” Jake repeats, “nice to meet you.”

Thinking of Tobias Kiramman.
Thinking of how he'll probably never be totally accepting of Vi's presence in his life, not because she's a zaunite, but because she is related to Jinx, and that's just not something they can get around. I don't think he blames her for what happened, but it was obvious even in act 1 she was always going to have a conflict of loyalty because of her sister - and of course that's exactly what happened.
And unlike Caitlyn, he has no strong feelings for Vi personally, that would make him reassess his feelings and try to make things work anyway.
My headcanon is that 1-2 days passed between the moment Vi frees Jinx in ep 8 and the actual battle, so at one point in the Kiramman manor it was "discovered" that Jinx had escaped her cell (Caitlyn and Vi totally had a "oh really?" pikachu face reaction to it). Anyone present would of course have automatically assumed Vi set her free, including Tobias, and I think he would really have resented her for it (not suspecting that Caitlyn played a part in it, though this is an interesting question: would Caitlyn tell him and how would he react?)
Flash forward to the series finale, and… here he is, having mourned the loss of his wife, and now he has to share his home with Vi, who is mourning the loss of his wife's killer.
They are simply not compatible, and Tobias is only human. I do think he's not a bad man, and that he loves Caitlyn, so he'd try to make an effort and keep things civil for her sake, but while time can do wonders, I think it will take him a long, long time before he can ever be truly comfortable around Vi. Which is why I like the idea I've seen somewhere that Tobias moves to another house / estate after the finale.
Of course that puts Caitlyn in a similar situation to Vi - she loves both Vi and her father but the two probably won't get along, just like Caitlyn wouldn't have gotten along with Jinx if she had stayed in Piltover (I mean - it's one thing to let go of one's hatred, another to be totally accepting of someone's presence).
And it's all very tragic, and it makes the idea that Caitlyn and Vi keep choosing each other anyway all the more powerful.

impromptu meta at 2 — oh wait 1 in the morning thank you daylight saving time
the thing about light yagami is that we all know he is repression incarnate. and we also know that kira was born out of his desperate need to justify sort-of-accidentally killing two people. and so therefore kira isn't what light's repressing, not at the outset; kira is an extension of his repression.
and the death note and his need to hide it very quickly takes over light's life. so it's easy to say that light is light yagami on the outside and kira on the inside, and maybe light feels that way. but. kira is just as much a persona as light yagami. a more hidden persona, but still not the real him, whoever that is.
and the thing is that no one sees past that. ever. most people obviously fall for the charming boy act, but even the detectives — L, near, mello — god, even ryuk stops at part two. i think a lot about how L set up the mock execution because he thought that kira would have killed his own father if necessary. can you see light doing that? eighteen-year-old light yagami who said "if anything happens to you, dad — i'll see that kira gets the death penalty. i swear it."? remember when ryuk laughs at how good an actor he is afterwards and light doesn't look at him?
light never thinks kira is evil. even in yotsuba arc he acknowledges that they think very similarly, just that kira has gone too far. (ha, ha.) for all of death note light yagami is light yagami, who says if kira wins then kira is good, who has convinced himself he is doing the right thing. he gets frustrated when other people don't perceive him the same way — lind l tailor, misa killing police chiefs while pretending to be kira — but the anger has nowhere to go other than murdering more people.
light yagami is kira is light yagami. but L, ryuk, everyone doesn't manage to see through kira in the end.
and after L dies, well. no one will ever measure up to L, in light's eyes. he almost idolizes him in the weirdest way possible. so maybe, he thinks, if the only person in the world who could ever possibly see all of him (this isn't true, it's just what light believes) thought he was just a murderer, then maybe —
i think he hollows himself out in the second arc. in the anime he seriously considers killing sayu; in the manga he never does that but justifies his unwillingness to himself by saying that this way soichiro and light won't come under suspicion (they weren't going to in the first place). light doesn't really have a sense of self. L said he was evil and of course L is wrong — was wrong — will always be wrong — but isn't it easy to play into that stereotypically evil image of himself? especially after soichiro, his last moral compass, dies: isn't it easy to nullify misa's memories, to say she's not intelligent enough to be my partner, to kill kiyomi in the most painful way possible?
("light would have done the same things in the first arc!" sure. but not with that much callousness.)
it's just. it's tragic, you know? light has always pretended to be nicer than he is but he isn't the cold any-means-necessary person they thought kira was either. he is constantly playing someone he thinks he is but he can never escape being light, in the end.
does this make any sense do i sound insane
