Yes, Vocaloid-Ps exist in-universe! Ichika is sorta one since she owns a Miku voicebank and is learning how to use it. Also I shit you not, it's heavily implied that Rui is a fan of those guys. He mentions liking how Vocaloid can be used to tell stories in KAITO's 1* story.

Any song that the characters write in a story is not the same as the commission for the event. If you play the story with music the songs written are always played at some point and they're just OST. Although it may at first seem like Order Made and Utsuro wo Aogu are the songs written by Ichika and Toya within their respective events, when their songs are played in the story, they're actually Count Your Blessings and Step by Step. Order Made is canon though, since it's performed in virtual lives. As I said, commissioned songs that are performed in virtual lives are canon but were likely created by the SEKAI (since they aren't treated as covers, and it's not like vocaloPs are producing songs for teenagers in a pocket dimension).

Jackpot Sad Girl doesn't exist in-universe (possibly, not sure how canon the connect lives are). The song Kanade wrote in Captive Marionette is actually called Marionette, and is never played during the story.

Remember I wrote that really long post about SEKAI lore and then just slapped on the end that they're a metaphor for worldbuilding in music? That's how I'm explaning the Evillious SEKAI. Hey, if the vocaloid characters can manifest into existence then characters based on those characters can also manifest into existence too I guess.

*  Japanese words may be transcribed with different kanji to add subtle connotations. The word for ‘laugh’ is usually written  笑 (wara). However, in this line, it is written as  嗤  and then  哂. The first implies laughing condescendingly. The second is not really in use anymore; I found so little explanation online that I resorted to looking it up in Chinese, which impressed upon me a meaning of laughing at someone. Again, not a very nice kind of laugh. The next line in the lyrics returns to using�� 笑 – those negative connotations are gone.

I summarized the major talking points in Kaida’s commentary from his stream on 6/7/24. This starts around 40 minutes in the archive and goes on for a half hour.

The first verse represents VΔLZ’s beginnings, when they had a ton of ideas and did this and that without any clear goals. Kaida says back then, without considering his own capacity, he thought “Why not just do everything I want to do?” The mismatched gears are a metaphor for how the members had different ways of doing things, but still tried to keep pace with each other.

“No signposts, but no end to it either” – In VΔLZ’s early days, when they were doing a random mix of everything, there seemed to be no guidance on how to advance as a team. But at the same time, they saw no end to their group activities. Be it positive or negative, there would always be more to come.

“To confirm each other’s existence / We’ll collide with our tin souls” – Kaida explains his philosophy that he can’t determine his own value as an individual, it can only be confirmed by the people around him. In the context of VΔLZ, those people would be Nagao and Genzuki. Likewise, he can exist as live-streamer Kaida Haru only because there is an audience to acknowledge him.

Things made of tin have a reputation of being sort of trashy, but tin is used a lot because it’s resilient and versatile. For example, tin toys can be bashed together without breaking. As a group, VΔLZ butted heads many times, but it never broke them.

The VΔLZ members found their different areas of interest and it became harder to choose unified goals. For example, if Genzuki and Nagao said “Let’s become a unit that only dances!” because they like dancing, Kaida would be uncomfortable, and if Kaida said “Let’s become a unit that only sings!” then Nagao might feel like he was missing out on dancing.

When ROF-MAO first formed, Kaida got so busy that he didn’t have time to think about VΔLZ anymore. His hands were so full, it was all he could do to get through one day at a time. Rather than being sorry that ROF-MAO was taking all his time, it was more like feeling uncertain about what was the right thing to do as a streamer at this point. Since then, he’s gotten better at handling the workload, so it’s fine now.

Kaida, Nagao, and Genzuki had a long, thorough conversation here about what to do as a group, and this became a turning point. Without knowing how Nagao and Genzuki felt, Kaida made peace with the possibility that he would have to invest all his energy in ROF-MAO, and VΔLZ would become a thing on the side that he didn’t take seriously. So he was surprised by his debut-mates’ thoughtful opinions on how the group should go forward. It was a like a new beginning, but also a bit scary. “Acting like VΔLZ only now? This late?” This is expressed in the line, “Are [you] laughing because it’s shoddy? Are [you] laughing only now?” (This is also the line marked for the translation note above.) Kaida was afraid that he would look around one day and realize that their mutual camaraderie had disappeared. It turned out they were all kind and willing to wait for each other.

Looking back, he appreciates the uncertainties and struggles he went through. Everyone grew from the experience. He references a verse from “Shooting Delta” and I’ve copied over that translation: [You’ve] been seeing it all this time The regrets, the frustrations too Because [you’ve] been watching, [I] could stay strong No matter what may lie ahead, [I’ll] be fine You are there by [my] side, after all
