any explanation of boosting video over image content on sites that allow both that isn't "flagrant play to increase seconds of engagement to look better for advertisers" is wrong. of course most people linger on videos longer, you're making us wait to receive all the information, dipshit
#samble rambles#social media#this shift is what made me delete insta off my phone#I still check it on desktop sometimes but it's still so frustrating that I can only stay for a few minutes#when it was all images I could be locked into their intended doomscrolling for an hour or mroe#I acknowledge that I'm some form of georg bc shortform video is extremely annoying to me in bulk#like on here where it's maybe 1 in 25 posts on my timeline and well curated it's fine and dandy#but when it's 50-100% it's just exhausting and irritating to me#also I use insta primarily to keep tabs on brands and artists#so to make me sit through 20 seconds of video to see your next release when you could have posted a photo makes me tear my hair out#ik why it's necessary for algorithm reasons I'm not mad at you personally it does mean I miss a bunch of shit now though

Really annoyed that PC's aren't really made with optical disc drives anymore, support of old games and DVDs aside, what am I gonna do the next time I don't have a free flash drive?? I used to use a CD-RW as a makeshift USB when in a pinch and knew that every pc could read it even if it was a tad strange.
#dont get me started on the eventual phaseout of USB A; they better make USB C flash drives or im busting out the adapter#ive made it work on my phone when the sd was full and ill do it again#tetranynous.txt#i know the answer is just chuck it on onedrive (free terabyte from uni)#but i just cant come to terms with the death of physical media#and no im not going to carry around a usb cd drive#(i dont own one) since it sort of defeats the convinience of carrying just a disc that can be read anywhere#and at that point id just get a bulk pack of usbs (esp since i can turn them into bootable media nowadays)#anyways this rant was in part becaude i found 80% of a relatively modern pc thrown out that im gonna try to turn into a cad pc#and the motherboard doesnt have a spot for a cd drive#or multiple expansion slots :|#granted it is one of those itty bitty tiny boards (weird) but like do gamers not put multiple gpus (crossfire) in pcs anymore???#although i guess theres integrated now so they already usually have 2; BUT im gonna one up that with a mere thinkpad#(egpu; can put in the expresscard slot; literally just a desktop gpu and power supply)#anyways unpug-ifying that tiny thing and putting it a proper case with proper airflow and a sick paint job nature is healing

As someone who's had to do this process twice to try and debloat my parents' computers - it should be noted that Windows 11 Home Edition will not have automatic access to the Registry Editor, but there is a way to "turn it on", if you will.
This site has instructions on how to do this manually (which is what I did, since I use the macOS Terminal a bit and Command Prompt is basically the same thing), to use a PowerShell script (your mileage may vary), or to install the editor directly (your mileage may vary).
Once installed, the above settings suggestions still stand, though I didn't have an option for 'News & Interests' in the editor.
I got a laptop with Windows 11 for an IT course so I can get certified, and doing the first time device set-up for it made me want to commit unspeakable violence
Windows 11 should not exist, no one should use it for any reason, it puts ads in the file explorer and has made it so file searches are also web searches and this cannot be turned off except through registry editing. Whoever is responsible for those decisions should be killed, full stop.
Switch to linux, it's free and it's good.
#the utility program is also very very good it not only has OS tweaks but also security update settings#and can also bulk install a frankly ridiculous amount of programs in a handful of different areas#i used it on my new desktop to get things like blender and inkscape and a few others without having to hop from site to site#tech

Happy Webcomic Day! My webcomic White Noise is a labor of love--according to Procreate, this page took me 15.5 hours to complete.* Here's a look into that process!
Some other notes:
The thumbnails are done on graph paper and I script while I do them--there is no separate written script for White Noise. I usually spent a couple hours on weekends as needed thumbnailing, sometimes at a coffee shop or at home listening to records.
I then set up the file in Photoshop, so I can lay in the text and use the template I have with bleeds already set up. The text is rasterized and I shuttle the file over to my iPad via Airdrop.
The bulk of the actual work is done in Procreate, which records timelapses that I sometimes share to my Patreon. I usually spend a couple hours most nights after my day job or on the bus commuting doing this.
Once everything art-wise is done, I shuttle the file back over to my desktop to re-set in the text, add a stroke around the speech bubbles (Procreate doesn't have that took fsr) and do the resizing/exporting for web.
On Sunday mornings I get up, queue the page and write the page descriptions. I don't spend any time on the page descriptions outside of that.
Also, this process goes for the whole first arc of White Noise. I'm done with that arc (which means you can binge the whole thing I'm js!!) and am experimenting with some different methods these days, but my workflow is still generally the same.
*Some more talk about the labor (and burnout) involved below the cut:
This particular page (and most of the pages I did in 2023) took a lot longer than normal because I was heading into a burnout period that I'm still lowkey in/recovering from. It's obvious to me now in retrospect watching the timelapse here and seeing how much noodling I'm doing and how much I'm struggling with the process, but at the time I was just very frustrated generally. When I'm not burned tf out pages take maybe 10 hours max.
2023 was a pretty stressful year--lots of big life changes, uncertainty, pet death, health issues--so it's no wonder it propelled me into burnout, but it just goes to show that even the slowest and steadiest pace is not sustainable forever. I've been doing one page a week following this general process for over a decade! And I stuck to that pace because I knew it was one I could maintain. But even so, by the end of this arc I found myself working more and more slowly, not really looking forward to the work, feeling anxious about being behind, unhappy with the finished work, and extremely annoyed with myself for not being able to give it my all right there at the finish line.
I did stop for a while after the epilogue and took a more or less complete break from drawing for about a month--the longest I have EVER gone without drawing, much less working on White Noise--which did help, but these days my ability to work is...inconsistent. I should probably take another total break, but I'm reluctant. What if my passion never comes back? What if people forget about WN? It's already pretty obscure, and with the general social media collapse, it's harder than ever to get people to read my work. Now that I've left Hiveworks, WN doesn't even get the benefit of being linked to other comics (although objectively very, very few readers actually got referred to my comic that way.) And frankly, I'm also just too proud to go too long without comic updates. I've always told myself, I might not be the best artist or the fastest worker or make a popular comic, but I'm consistent. Difficult to let that go.
This is all to say that webcomics are hard. We do them because we love them, we have stories to tell, we are seized with the human compulsion to create. We spend hours of our time, almost always on top of the paying work that allows us to eat, to make something that we then give away for free. It has consequences on us that the reader doesn't often see, no matter how careful we are about it. If you ask me, webcomics deserve to be valued more.
Happy Webcomic Day! Read webcomics!

This means they'll pay artists more, right?
Right?
Canadians will notice a price bump in their Spotify charge as the streaming platform announced that its increased prices.
The price hike went into effect on Monday, July 24, according to CNN. The changes apply to subscribers in a number of countries, including Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia.
"As we continue to grow our platform, we are updating our Premium prices so that we can keep innovating in changing market conditions," reads a statement on the company's website. "These updates will help us continue delivering value to fans."
So how much more will users be expected to pay?
Spotify has bumped the prices of all of its Premium plans by $1. Existing users will be notified by email before their price goes up and will be given a two-month grace period "before the new price becomes effective unless they cancel before the grace period ends." [...]

She saves them all and it looking forward to what's next on Steve's list to draw.
Nice to be Kneaded:

*Had to change up the request a bit as to not interfere with a future plotline that’s already been written.

Nomad Steve x Baker Reader
word count: 1,664
"Hey, look at this really cool thing we found!" One of your employees, Sabrina, told you enthusiastically while quickly approaching you at your spot on the desk.
You ripped your eyes away from the product order invoice on the desktop screen to take interest in her excitement.
"What is it?" You asked, as she handed it to you.
In your hand, she placed a yellow sticky note that was drawn on with a ball point pen. An immediate smile tugged at your lips when you recognized it. It was one of the espresso machines in the lobby.
On the sticky note was a drawing of the machine itself, sitting on the counter accompanying a fresh latte. The detail was sickeningly impressive considering it was on a 3 x 3 yellow square, and drawn on with a 75¢ ball point pen.
"I was doing a quick run to wipe down all the tables after morning rush and found that stuck to the small table by the espresso bar!" Sabrina enthused. "Isn't it incredible?!"
"It's amazing" You agreed with a smile.
"I wonder who did it." She pondered as you handed it back to her.
"Maybe a customer during morning rush" You shrugged, smile still invasive. "Have you guys found any more of them or was it just this one?"
"Nope, this is the first and only one." Sabrina noted. "Maybe they'll come back and leave more."
"Well whoever it is deserves a coffee and a cookie if we catch them." You noted.
"This work of art must be cherished forever" She noted, grabbing the roll of tape and tearing off a piece. She taped the sticky note masterpiece to the wall right next to the computer. "This is the new, official, Nice to be Kneaded art museum."
That post-it stayed on the wall for two days before Steve came back into the bakery to help out with the bulk supply delivery. That's when he caught a glimpse of his drawing taped to the wall, and knew he needed to leave more for you and your employees to find around the bakery.
Day by day, week by week, the scrap paper and pen art museum on the back office wall became quite an impressive display. So much so that you eventually became ignorant to the new additions on the daily because they started to blend in with the rest. But every once in a while, you'd catch your team talking about the most recent little pieces of art so you'd go to inspect the entirety of the collection.
One particularly quiet night in the bakery, you had texted Steven to see if he wanted to hang out with you. It wasn't usually a night he'd come by, but you missed his little antics and his stupidly handsome face.
Without question, he was walking through the door of the bakery 20 minutes later. His golden hair was still slightly soggy from the shower he was taking when you grabbed his attention, and he was dressed casually and comfortably as he always was.
"Hey there, honey!" You smiled big, happy to see your best friend.
"Hello, hello!" He greeted you with a smile just as big as yours, and gave you a big hug.
One thing about Steven was that he was of the same mentality of a Great Dane, he was a lot bigger and stronger than he was aware of, yet he thought he was a lap dog. Even his gentlest of hugs engulfed your entire body, and squeezed you comfortably tight.
"Thanks for coming! It was getting real quiet and lonely in here without you."
"You know I'd never miss a chance to spend time with you." He playfully exclaimed. “Need help with anything?”
“Nothing other than curing my boredom” You shrugged.
His eyes looked over to the wall of sticky notes he had drawn on, completely unbeknownst to you and your entire staff. “What’s all of this?” He questioned, interested to hear your take on the drawings.
“Oh, that’s our art museum” You smiled. “Some unknown person has been leaving these drawings around the store for us to find.”
“Oh really?” Steve cocked his head to the side, fighting a smile.
“Yeah, it’s really fun. We all love it so much” You smiled. “It’s like finding hidden treasure, then when we find them we add them to the wall.”
“Do you have a favorite one?” He asked.
He watched your eyes scan them all over, before your pointed to one of the post-it’s. “That one, but they’re all amazing. I’m going to save them forever.”
His eyes followed your finger to the drawing he did last week of the outside of the bakery, and he could agree that it was one of his favorites too.
You could see the inside of the bakery through the windows on the front, and shining through the reflective glass was the big neon sign that read ‘Nice to be Kneaded’. There were many days where pulling into the parking lot of your cozy bakery filled him with immense comfort, and that drawing made him feel just the same way.
“I like this one” Steve pointed to the drawing he did two days ago of the back of a kid up on his tippy toes, peaking into the case full to the brim with treats.
“Awwwww that one is so cute!” You cooed.
Conversation strayed but Steve’s mind stayed fixed on the little drawings. Much like every other aspect of his life, he didn’t want to lie or keep secrets from you, but he did want to make it fun.
So, he started making it increasingly more obvious that it was him every day he spent in the bakery just to clue you in.
If you were baking cookies, he would draw the cookies.
You cleaned the glass of the bake case? Surprise. The next drawing would be of the case full of pastry with little sparkling shimmers on the glass to show it was completely finger print free.
Oh and that cake you were decorating right in front of his face? Yeah. That was tonight’s drawing.
He got every last detail, down to the different piping tips you used for the princess style, the tiny pearled beads you carefully placed at every joint and peak, and the writing on top in your beautiful handwriting that he honestly struggled to recreate.
Steve really thought this would be the one that pushed it over the edge and helped you put the pieces together, but when he walked in the next day, you said nothing about it.
Even when you looked at it and taped it up in its respective spot, you still didn’t solve the little riddles he was leaving you.
Well, that was true until about an hour later when you walked over to the computer to confirm order details on the cake you were about to start. Making sure you got all the flavors, colors, and theming right was very important to you.
He watched your eyes go from the computer screen, to the drawing you just attached to the wall, back to the computer, back to the drawing.
“Oh my gosh…” You caught his attention. “I just realized this is the cake I made yesterday!” You said happily.
“Wait… don’t you think that’s a little odd?” Steve asked, trying to push you along further into the clue.
“Why would it be?” You questioned.
“Well, if you decorated that cake last night when only you were here, then put it in the fridge for pick up early in the morning, how would the artist have even seen the cake?” Steve continued.
“Wait, you’re so right. That customer picked up at opening.” You agreed. “Oh gosh, and the day before that was a picture of the bake case, I just cleaned it the night before…”
“See, now that’s really odd.” He egged you on.
“Who the hell could this be?” You thought out loud. “Do I have a stalker.”
“Well let’s think rationally about this mystery guy. Can you think of anyone who would’ve seen you clean the bake case and decorate that cake?” Steve asked.
He watched you think for a second. “Other than us two I have no idea… You were here too. Did you see anything weird?”
“Not at all.” Steve couldn’t even hold in the laugh he was desperately trying to conceal. “So if it was just you and I…”
Before he could even finish his sentence, you remembered one very important detail about Steven.
He was an artist.
Steve could literally see the moment it clicked in your head, your face snapped into something between joy and annoyance. But you were smiling with big pink cheeks, so he really didn’t care.
“Steven!” You laughed joyfully, voice raising a few notches.
“What?!” He questioned gigging with you.
“Why didn’t you tell me it was you!” You screeched, reaching forward and very gently play hitting his arm.
“I was seeing how long it would take you to figure it out!”
“Meanie!”
“…and you said it was making you and all your employees happy!” Steve continued explaining. “Leaving drawings around the store to make you guys happy is the least I could do in exchange for how happy you and the bakery make me.”
You cheeks only deepened their blush as his explanation sunk into your mind and heart. “Honey, you already do so much for us and they don’t even know you’re here helping out. You’re appreciated by everyone regardless, and what you do here goes a long way.”
“Yeah, but, I really like making the drawings” he admitted shyly.
“We all love them too. Thanks for all you do for me, Steven.” You said sincerely.
“No, thank you.” He said humbly, his cheeks were blushed pink just like yours.
“Okay, now I just have to get these all in a picture frame…” Thought.
He laughed. “Stop it! They’re literally just post it notes!”
“One man’s post-it is another man’s masterpiece!”

torchwood resources
just some stuff i've accumulated during this fixation :) hope it proves handy :D
ianto's-desktop (livejournal) - archived most of the things found on the torchwood website during season 1 and season 2; the only thing missing is the videos. / note: click the headers of the posts to see the full thing, or some stuff with appear incomplete. took me a sec to figure out, lol
speaking of the website...
season 1 website (archive.org)
season 2 website (archive.org) - unlike the s1 website, the bulk of the s2 site's content is pretty inaccessible through the wayback machine (at least for me; maybe i'm doing something wrong), so thank g-d for ianto's desktop
there's also a good amount of rebloggable site content in this person's tumblr tag.
season 1 declassified (youtube)
season 2 declassified (youtube)
season 1 commentaries (mega.nz)
torchwood books (google drive) - gonna be honest, i haven't tried to download any of these myself
border princes audiobook (read by eve) + all of the radio plays (archive.org)
torchwood magazines (beta.reddit) - download links for all of them! p fuckin kewl
torchwood official yearbook (archive.org)
herecomesthedrums (youtube) - account that started posting before the show came out and is chock full of promos, trailers, interviews... some real fun goodies in there
torchwood: up close (youtube) - handful of bts videos with the cast + crew
season 1 unreleased tracks (soundcloud) - the end of days ones hrhghgh
out of time unreleased tracks (soundcloud) - i absolutely adore the music in this ep so i was so happy when i found these
the torchwood fanpop - this has sooooooo much content like i scrolled for a loooooong time and never reached the bottom. lotta stuff i hadn't seen before, too. there's fun hd promo pics, pics of the cast, and a lot of extremely early 2010s edits, graphics, and fanvids. / note: i also had this page bookmarked + it's got different content than the main page so i'll link it
aaand under the cut i'm gonna dump some silly stuff i've collected of the cast. but yeah, there ya go :-)
gally 2015: zip files of someone's pictures of eve, naoko, and burn (livejournal)
gally 2015: someone's account of the torchwood panels + meeting the cast (everyone was there but gareth!) - naoko & burn's solo panels / autograph table chats + barrowman photo-op + the naoko&burn&eve group panel / barrowman solo panel + burn&eve joint panel
dragon con 2013 (flickr) - i found two albums: this one, and this one, which has torchwood cast images on the first and second pages.
burn at chicago tardis 2012 (flickr) - ehehe 2012-2013 burn gorman w his classy little outfits my beloved. this is just hq pictures of that event. burn's in a bunch at the top and some at the end of the second page
the hub 2009 (flickr) - some kind of torchwood event. gareth, burn, eve, kai, and tom are all there. i dunno
hvff 2018: 'insights from the whole cast'
hvff 2018: video of everybody goofing off (twitter)
gareth endorsing owandy teehee (twitter) - this is getting dumped here bc im gay
sigh. (blogspot) - pics from that one fuckin 08 panel where gareth & john made out like 5 times + gareth took his jeans off for some reason. i don't even go here but i feel like this is unfortunately historically relevant. also the fujoshis in the comments are really funny
incomplete but sizable lists of cons gareth's been to and john's been to, in case anyone wants to dig around for photos/footage of any of these. the other cast members (excluding burn, for some reason) all have pages on this site as well, but theirs are super incomplete so i won't bother linking
#torchwood#mine#txt#torchwood posting#might update w more#ohhhh internet archive my beloved#... ngl i am hoarding some other stuff. but woohoo this means i can delete one of my laptop folders hehehee

hi reddit. here are some tips.
i will be putting these below a "readmore" - which is the first lesson. on desktop there is a button for this. on mobile you type :readmore: followed by a linebreak. it is considered common ettique to shorten your long posts in this way.
by the way, are you reblogging a long post that isn't under a readmore? tag that as #long post so users can blacklist it and not have to scroll for five years.
(weird gaps in bullet points due to character limits lmao)
Title. Icon. Banner. blog description. (look around if you need an idea for what to put in your blog description.) Blogs without this information (ESPECIALLY the no icon + no title combo) gets you blocked immediately. This is because tumblr has always had a severe bot problem. Just grab a meme from your camera roll or a picture of a character you like from google.
also, because most users have their pronouns in their bio, it is expected that you will look there to check before addressing them, out of courtesy. don't just default to "they" - only do that if a person's pronoun's are unclear or if the pronouns listed ARE "they."
Disable public likes. the like button is for personal bookmarking. very often, people will like posts they have not read yet, so that they can read them later. a person's likes is not always reflective of their stances, and if your likes are public, people may use them against you in an argument. think of your likes as your browser history. tumblr users value privacy in this instance.
unrelated to the above point: likes are also used to show compassion for a user going through a tough time, or to say "hey, i thought this joke you made was funny." this use of likes is more for friend-to-friend communication.
Disable anything in your settings that is algorithmic including seeing posts based on other people's likes (one, because algorithms exist to make you mad and two, as part of respecting privacy)
set "following" to appear before "for you" (and overall avoid "for you")
Snooze Tumblr Live (sorry. you have to do this once a week bc tumblr sucks.)
Open your askbox so people can communicate with you. Decide if you want to allow anonymous asks and/or public DMs.
Enable the desktop version of your blog. This makes it so that when you use a computer and go to [yourusername].tumblr.com you can have a website with HTML and CSS. tumblr has tried very hard to kill blog personalization but you can find many helpful users posting in the tags, as well as pre-made themes you can install. tumblr users are the ones making the bulk of neocities websites, and in general tend to be friendly in redirecting you to resources.
enabling your desktop blog also allows you to insert links and do very basic editing (like inserting line breaks) in your blog description (we call "bio") which translates to the mobile version of your theme. you have to do this in the editor for the desktop on a computer. also, editing your theme on mobile (like changing color, font) will undo your HTML. your best bet is to edit your mobile theme first and THEN do the HTML/link stuff on a computer. i know it sounds a bit convoluted but you'll figure it out. (this website is made of duct tape)
also while you are on desktop: download xkit rewritten. it won't work on mobile but it gives you a lot of helpful features. also consider installing ublock origin if you haven't already, because tumblr will sometimes add annoying widgets to their website and that tool will allow you to block them. i also use "palettes for tumblr" to customize my dashboard color. tumblr DOES have built-in dashboard themes but i do not like them personally.
pinned posts. you can pin any post you make or reblog. some people use this to pin a funny meme, and other people use the pinned post as an extended bio (or otherwise an alternative to it). a tumblr post made on desktop can hold up to 30 images (the limit is 10 on mobile.) you can also embed links, a video, and even audio. you can change text color, have bullet points, and increase font size. as such, you can express yourself much more in a pinned post than in your mobile blog description. a typical pinned post may include information about the user, a link to an external website (like a carrd, neocities, or linktree), and sometimes an image or two. tumblr allows you to disable reblogs for a post, so most pinned posts are set this way so it just stays on a user's blog.
DNIs (also called "BYF"). not everyone uses them, and they can be divisive. it stands for "Do Not Interact" - and is a boundary set to keep people away. this may include age (example: "minors DNI"), political opinions (example: "prolifers DNI"), and sometimes deeply niche online discourse. DNIs are also sometimes a joke (example: "DNI if you like tuna salad"). there is actually a meme where someone will write a post with a very long, unreasonable DNI and users will count how many apply to them.
If you would upvote a post on reddit, you would reblog it here. If you see something and you think it is cool, you think it is funny, or you think it is helpful, reblog it. Some users have sideblogs (you can have infinite sideblogs attached to your main account) to organize all of the posts they reblog. Others simply use a tagging system for organizational purposes (and so users can blacklist ("filter") those tags in their settings if they don't want to see the post). For example, if I followed a user for Star Trek, but they also posted a lot of Star Wars, I might add "#star wars" to my list of filters. This way, I am only seeing the Star Trek posts. Tumblr's default way of handling this is to display a box that says "this post contains #Star Wars" and you can choose whether or not to open it. on desktop with xkit rewritten, you can have it hide those boxes entirely. please use filters. your sanity will thank you.
In a reblog, Organizational Tags are for /you./ I see a lot of confusion about this from new users. If you reblog someone else's post and add 500 tags..... it's not going to get picked up in tumblr search. You're not going to get any sort of exposure. Because it is not your post. Those tags are only for /you/ - if you want to find the post again.
tags are also used for commentary. most tumblr users do /not/ talk in post replies or in the comments of a reblog. most of them talk in tags. tags have a character limit so these messages are broken up in fragments. tumblr uses a comma (,) to make a new tag, so users often use either no punctuation or a period (.) or a hyphen (-) to break up thoughts. two apostrophes ('') are used instead of quotation marks (because they dont work in tags). this is also where "tumblr writing style" comes from. we all began to write in lowercase and use punctuation in. a weird way. like. for emphasis. there is also the Tumblr Comma, a special unicode character that resembles a comma and works in tags when copy+pasted or put there with a keyboard shortcut. but this is often not used. here it is: ‚
also here's an example of tags. you will notice that commentary goes before organizational: #GOD DHSHSKDDJDL #i cannot BELIEVE i forgot about this. what the fuck #star trek #spock
when leaving tags, most users talk to themselves. but please remember that tags can be seen by anyone, including the original poster. in general, it is discouraged to traumadump or be rude.
"prev tags" (which tumblr staff is trying their damnest to erase sadly) is when a user reblogs a post from another user and tags it simply ''prev'' or ''prev tags" (meaning "i agree with the previous user's tags"). sometimes it's because a thoughtful observation was made, but usually it's a way of saying "hey! that was a funny joke!" without putting the user on blast by screenshotting the tags. it's most common between friends and mutuals (users following each other). i would say it is equivalent to users whispering to each other and giggling rather than getting up on a table and shouting. "prev tag chain" is when users reblog "prev tags" "prev prev tags" - and so on. however, sadly, tumblr has removed the feature of moving backwards in a reblog chain on desktop. i have not updated my app and refuse to, so i so not know if it is gone on mobile as well, but it probably is. EDIT: the browser extension Xkit Rewritten has an option now, in "tweaks" called "restore links to individual posts in post header." it should be the first option. prev tags, on desktop at least, is saved!
screenshotting someone elses tags and adding the image in a reblog is known as "passing peer review." it is, however, considered to be Greatly Annoying to accompany those tags with unnecessary commentary (ex: "these tags pass peer review!" "WHY WOULD YOU LEAVE THIS IN THE TAGS" "LMAAOO THIS IS SO FUNNYYY"). the tags can stand on their own. the only instance in which this is different is during a serious discussion, when you want to build off of another user's perspective. in which case, you address them as normal. some people credit taggers, some people don't. crediting tends to occur in discussions.
when making an original post, do not use irrelevant tags for Exposure. this is Greatly Hated by the userbase and is also against the TOS. you will get blocked at best, reported or yelled at at worst. only add relevant tags, and do not go overboard.
reposting other people's artwork is highly discouraged and is considered the Highest Offense. if you do any sort of reposting, you should credit and link to a creator directly. however, tumblr loves reposted videos, especially ones from tiktok. there are entire accounts dedicated to posting those.
sideblogs! it is possible to have multiple blogs under one email address. tumblr treats these blogs as proxies of your main blog. this means that sending someone an ask/commenting in the replies of a post will always appear with the name of your main blog, your likes will appear with the name of your main blog, and that if you follow someone you will appear on their followers list as your main blog (so you may be mutuals with someone and not even know it because their sideblog interacts with you, but isn't on your follower's list... because their main blog is listed there instead.) however, DMs DO appear as the sideblog name. you cannot swap your main blog with your sideblog. and right now, there is a bug where deleting a sideblog will delete your entire tumblr account so. don't do that lol. anyway, the amount of sideblogs you can make is literally infinite and i think there's just a Daily Limit of creating 10 of them or something. some users make a sideblog for each interest they have. others have no sideblogs and reblog everything to main. and then you have people like me that do both. somehow. some users will make sideblogs to hoard URLs. also sorry i'm just introducing this now, but that is what our usernames are called. because when tumblr was more desktop-oriented, every blog was literally a Personal Website. so ya. we call them "URLs." anyway, if someone wants to hang onto a URL for later, they might save it on an empty blog. this usually pisses people off. a "canon URL" is when someone has a URL that is like One Word or a Company Name or a Fictional character. hypothetical examples: "ketchup" "burgerking" "lukeskywalker." these are highly rare, coveted, and you look cool as hell if you have one.
tumblr's /\/SFW policy (/\/ is an N. i've censored it.) is best described as ???. posts that are safe for work get marked as /\/SFW and hardcore p0rn somehow persists. in general, be very wary of posting even artistic nvdity (even though it is supposedly permitted.) never deliberately mark your own posts as Mature. this is essentially like walking directly into a bear trap and waving a big sign at tumblr staff saying "hey! make it so people can't find my blog and i'm far more likely to get banned!" also do not tag posts with "/\/SFW." too many of those will get your entire blog marked as mature (which makes your posts pretty much invisible to other users.) tumblr users used /\/SFT (/\/ot safe for tumblr) for a long time, but staff caught on. there is now no consensus and people use their own personal tags for it. just pick something and people will catch on and blacklist it if need be. (btw you CAN type whatever you want on this website. i am only censoring in the hopes that this will allow my post to appear in the tags. this isn't tiktok lol)
while it is possible to disable reblogs on a post, this is a very RECENT addition and most users forget it exists. as such, please use common sense. if someone has written a post about, say, how sad they are feeling because they got in a fight with their family... that's not a good post to reblog. a like would be better here, like a pat on the back.
we LOVE polls. we love them. they are like sports to us. most of them are popularity polls - who is the better character? but people also use polls for, say, making bug emojis "race" each other. or "lets build a cake." other people use polls to write poetry, or learn about regional differences, or even to draw a pen!s. if you tag a poll as "poll" it will most likely be seen and voted in, because users look in the tag to find buttons to click.
there is unfortunately a T3RF (this one censored specifically to protect my notifs lmao. 3 is E) presence here. report, block, ignore, move on. common courtesy for users to inform each other if one is accidentally reblogged from. it also helps to blacklist tags related to them to avoid them. use shinigam! eyes browser extension on desktop.
there is NO equivalent to reddit awards on this website. as the userbase hates the staff, it is considered blasphemous to spend your money on checkmarks, etc. - buying them as a gift for another user is seen as a hostile act. it's like receiving a "kick-me" sign. once owned, badges cannot be deleted. thankfully, tumblr now allows you to disable checkmarks and other badges from appearing publically. that said, some users also give checkmarks unironically to show appreciation??? and others buy checks for themselves???? so yeah. tumblr doesnt actually have a verification system - these exist to mock twitter and to make a quick buck.
tumblr blaze. essentially, tumblr has a system in place to showcase user posts instead of advertisements sometimes. this is done by the user paying money. the higher the amount, the more impressions. tumblr users can now also blaze OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BLAZE DISABLED!!! blazing another person's post (without asking first) is seen as a hostile act. why? because most blazed posts result in rude comments from strangers who are annoyed to see the post on their dashboard. unless it's like, a cute picture of a cat. or something genuinely helpful. boosting your soundcloud or a selfie or a rant about fandom does not typically garner positive responses. you can blaze just like. watch out. and also always ask the OP if you want to blaze someone else's post. (there is a reason this feature is called "blaze pvp")
tumblr merch is also frowned upon, as tumblr staff steals ideas from the userbase and profits off of them without financially compensating or crediting the users. there was a meme on here, "vanilla extract", that tumblr turned into water bottles while the person who made the meme was having to fundraise to survive :(
BLOCK. LIBERALLY.
umm i think thats it for now. but like if you have questions feel free to launch them into The Void with some tags and users are pretty quick to help out! hopefully i covered some stuff that other ppl haven't

at this point I'm tempted to predict a future schism between mobile and desktop internet users, even more so then there is now. It used to be that there were the internet-savvy people and the non-internet-savvy people, where "non-internet-savvy" meant "doesn't know how to do anything except send e-mail at best".
These days we exist in a delightful sea of many many people existing and exchanging ideas on the internet, but more and more I see that things designed for mobile use are very much designed to make the user think as little as possible and consume as much as possible, all the classic things they said about TV numbing your brain etc etc in the pre-internet days. Basic internet skills like browser extensions, privacy controls, ad blockers, and knowing when a company's "sorry, you have to do xyz to use our site!" is unnecessary bullshit designed to make you their product, are falling by the wayside, with younger people with no computer simply not having access to that knowledge unless they explicitly go diving for it
It's pretty easy at this point to foresee a possible future that cycles back around to the "mainstream uncritical TV-watching consumers" versus "weird squirrelly computer nerds" era of the turn of the millennium, when knowing how to add animated gifs to your Geocities was rare technical knowledge and having a home computer was something only those who were kind of nerdy did. So many websites are redesigning themselves now to be the most compatible for mobile use, because that's where the bulk of users are and therefore the profits, with several websites I've used in the past (RIP DoInk) going fully app-only and becoming unusable on desktop. I'm seeing my first full-production music videos produced in vertical format, looking absurd on anything other than a phone screen. YouTube now literally has two faces: Shorts for mobile users and "classic" youtube (which also throws Shorts at you because those get more views and more profit). Sites geared to app-based use overwhelmingly censor adult content more than browser-based (in my experience), thanks in part to Apple's app store approval policies and iron grip on what you can install on your own iOS device, which also excludes all the people who want to quietly get their freak on.
Perhaps over the next decade this polarization might continue into a central hub of mainstream, corporate-controlled mobile-oriented sites that provide the main sources of knowledge and entertainment (again, we've gone back to TV), and some secondary, more "underground" hubs where the nerds and the freaks and the weirdos hang out. I mean it's already like that right now but as a certified nerd freak and weirdo who has gotten pushed away from mobile-oriented spaces it's interesting to imagine it more extreme, what the internet cultural tapestry might become, further along this path

TF2 Fanfic - Real
Medic's spicy dreams about Heavy cause him a bit of consternation. Meanwhile, Heavy needs the answers to a few questions before he makes his move. He's confident in the answer he'll recieve, however. Medic has just a moment of trouble believing that this time, it's not just his brain being the way it is.
A gift for the wonderful @poopyboiman! Sorry it took a bit! This past week has been busy af with the larp and work afterward. <3 I borrowed just a touch of your Medic headcanon re: him having psychosis. I hope it's tastefully done, and please lmk if it's not, I don't wanna be shitty by accident, yanno? Thank you so much again, and I hope you enjoy!
Ao3 Link! It actually works now cause somehow I fucked it up and didn't realize til now! OTL
---------
Heavy charged into Medic's office, slamming the door open. Determination was written across his stern, handsome features as he strode with purpose across the space until he reached the desk. He slammed his hands down on its metal surface, leaning forward into Medic's personal space. The doctor looked up at him, his heart leaping in his chest in a mixture of surprise, fear, and utter, animal lust. Heavy was dangerous. He knew it well, but here, the giant's glacial-blue eyes upon him, looking down almost imperiously, it made that fact all the more stark.
"Doktor," Heavy spoke, his voice a low rumble that fairly hummed through Medic's entire body. "Tired of games. Tired of teasing. Tired of flirting. I do not care for this, so I will tell you plain: make love to me."
Medic jawed dumbly at the air, his words leaving him, his voice unable to come, his body frozen. His deepest desires come true, fantasies on the cusp of realization, and he couldn't even move. He stared up at Heavy with wide eyes, near-hyperventilating as he tried to respond.
Heavy's brow furrowed at the doctor's silence, his face twisting into a grimace of determination. With a flare of his nostrils he swept everything off of the desk with one mighty paw and took hold of Medic by his coat, hefting him onto the desktop like he were light as air. He closed in, his nose brushing Medic's, lips so close he could feel their heat on his own. "Kiss me."
Medic did. And soon he was pinned beneath Heavy's bulk, his hands running over his body, touching everything they could, tearing at his clothes as his tongue pushed into Medic's mouth, their breaths puffing hotly together, the doctor's hands slipping under Heavy's shirt to thread fingers through the dense, fluffy hair that covered his chest and belly.
One of Heavy's hands slipped under the curve of Medic's back, lifting him, letting them grind together despite the creaks of protest coming from the metal desk.
"Oh Gott, Heavy!" Medic cried, arching against the massive man.
"Gott—" Medic snorted, his face nearly slamming into the desk as it slipped from his hand, where his cheek and chin had been resting as he dozed. Medic shook his head blearily and tried to regain his bearings, looking around. Where was Heavy? Why was he in his chair? What time was it?
Medic sighed and huffed out a curse, looking down at the paperwork in front of him. He'd fallen asleep while going over statistics from the last quarter's respawn records. Again. With a yawn and a stretch, he frowned as his spine let out a series of loud pops and a few crackles. He'd been slumped there for who knew how long, and was going to pay for it with a sore back the rest of the day.
He'd much rather be sore in other places, he thought, thinking back to his dream. Just when they were getting to the good part, too. He shook his head. If only he'd be lucky enough for something like that to happen in reality.
He sighed dreamily, picking up a small scrap of paper and crumpling it idly. Could he really blame himself? Heavy was a perfect specimen! Handsome, intelligent, clever, just a bit silly, and very, very large. Medic was no small man, so to meet another man so much larger than himself made a very immature yet very animal part of his brain light up. Heavy was just so... big.
Medic giggled a little to himself at the thought, picturing the giant picking him up like a blushing bride with little effort. The thought sent a giddy thrill through him. To be manhandled with such ease...
He adjusted his trousers a bit and fought to turn his thoughts to something less physically frustrating. After all, he could handle that when he was back in his quarters later. For now, he needed to find a good stopping point in his actual work before—
"Doktor?"
Medic's eyes shot wide open as he looked up, almost startled by the sudden voice in the room. He was used to sudden voices, of course, but rarely ones so relevant to his current train of thought. He scrubbed at his chin, hoping there was no drool dried there from his accidental nap, and let out a nervous titter, communicating his surprise. Heavy stood at the door, the giant's expression as soft as his neutral expression could be, a gentle warmth coloured by just a bit of trepidation as he realized he'd startled the other man.
"Sorry, should have knocked. I am bothering you?" Heavy asked, courteous but not particularly worried. It was rare that Medic wasn't pleased to invite him in, even if he were busy.
Medic waved at the air as if dispersing the idea like it were a foul odor. "Absolutely not, my friend. Please, come in! I was just going over the respawn records for this quarter."
"Administrator still wants you to do this?" Heavy asked, closing the door behind him and trundling into the room proper.
"Ach, ja. Ever since that one match where the respawn system just kept spewing out raw biomass instead of Scout, she's had me watching the data under a microscope."
"Engineer found out what was wrong, didn't he?"
"Ja, something about an arbitrary code execution accidentally performed by Scout during the match causing the temporary effect data to overflow with garbage data, making the system that calls respawn profiles to crash. He said that garbage data was why it was just ejecting biomass, starting and stopping the process with no profile to build from once the materials were loaded."
Heavy stared at Medic.
"I, largely, have no idea what that means either," Medic chuckled.
"Engineer. He speak English, but those words mean nothing in that order."
Medic giggled at that. "I do not think we would understand it even if we were raised speaking it."
Heavy hefted a short laugh at that. "Sad you have to read data. Should be his job."
"He has the raw numbers side. I merely have to ensure the respawn profiles are accurate and active. He has it worse, I assure you."
"This is fine," Heavy shrugged, approaching the desk. He laid one hand atop its edge, and Medic's eyes lingered on it. He remembered his dream, and Heavy sweeping everything off of the desk in a clatter and flutter, dramatic and romantic, and his heart sped up at the mere thought. If only.
"So," Medic said, trying to keep his voice even as his imagination decided to overact, "did you need me for something?"
Heavy nodded, just barely, with an almost affected casualness. "Yes. Curious. On field today, BLU Demoman say that he is... shagging your wife?"
Medic shook his head ruefully. Such an immature insult. Though calling the other team Frauleins was probably not much better, really. "Ach, ja. Shagging means—"
"I know what this means. Sniper and Demoman say it much. I learn from context," Heavy explained. "No. I want to know: you have wife?" He lifted an eyebrow, looking almost skeptical as he asked, like he knew the answer and couldn't believe otherwise.
Medic shook his head with a giggle. "Me? A wife? Hoo, nein, nein," he said, waving a hand to dismiss the very thought. "It was simply an insult appropriate for a middle-aged man, I suppose. I never married, no."
Heavy nodded, slowly. "This surprises me."
"It does?" Medic cocked his head to the side. He hadn't been aware he would have given that sort of impression. "How so?"
"You said. You are middle-aged man."
"So are you, my friend," Medic teased with a smile, which made Heavy's lip quirk in amusement.
"True. But you are also handsome doktor. Women would throw selves at you."
Handsome? In spite of himself, a soft pinkness rose to Medic's cheeks. It was flattering, of course, but rather surprising to hear his friend say it. "Ja, well," he fussed with the papers on his desk to try and deflect a bit, "mein work and dedication to it tends to drive away any interested parties."
Interested parties. Interesting word choice. Heavy nodded softly again. "So you have had no time for love?"
"Eheh, not at all. I've found a few who've caught my eye over the years, but very few can handle my line of work, and my passion for medical science. Generally, graphic discussions of open-heart surgery tend to be a turn-off for most romantic partners."
"Fools," Heavy grunted. "It is your passion."
"Exactly!" Medic replied with a grin. "There are few things in the world more intimate, more fascinating! Why should I not share it with the one I love? Ach, but even the mention tends to make people... squeamish."
"You operate on me often," Heavy mused, smiling a bit.
Medic's blush grew a bit stronger. "Eheh, yes, well—"
Heavy's smile grew a bit broader, a bit more conspiratorial. "I have another question, if you have time."
Grateful for the change of topic, Medic perked up. "Of course, mein Freund."
Heavy leaned into Medic's space just a bit. "I want to know if you are busy after work all of week."
Medic reeled back a bit, thinking. "Today is..."
"Tuesday."
"Tuesday, ja. So Thursday I have to tune-up Spy's uberheart device and give Soldier his next dose of rabies treatment. Friday, Demoman needs another new liver..."
"Tomorrow?"
"Wednesday? I...don't think I have anything scheduled, no."
"Good. Come with me to town? We can get coffee."
Medic's eyes went wide in horror. "Coffee? Are we out already? I just got some last week! I swear, if Mundy went through our entire supply already—"
"No, Doktor, no," Heavy sighed, shaking his head with a rueful chuckle. "We can get coffee. Together."
Medic stared, his brain refusing to shift gears and properly comprehend what he thought Heavy had just said.
"On a date," Heavy clarified, holding back a laugh. Medic was adorable when he was confused, especially with how rarely yet dramatically it happened.
"A date?" Medic echoed, his heart leaping to action. He met Heavy's eyes, wrinkles at their corners creasing as he smiled fondly down at him. He was so handsome. Too handsome. Medic looked down at the crumpled piece of paper he'd been playing with and looked back to Heavy. Was he real? Was this just a particularly complicated audio-visual hallucination? It wouldn't be the first. This was a lot for something that wasn't real. But not impossible. He flicked the piece of paper at Heavy, heaving out a relieved sigh when it bounced off of the confused giant's belly.
A broad smile crossed Medic's too-white teeth, and he looked back up the giant, eyes full of hope. "A date? You are serious?"
"Of course," Heavy shrugged. "We are good friends."
Medic frowned. "Friends."
"So I think: maybe we can be more than friends?" Heavy clarified. "You tell me you are single. You avoid saying women when talking about love life. You tell me surgery you do on me is very intimate." He leaned further into Medic's space, placing both palms atop the desk and dominating the space. "You are very handsome, Doktor."
Medic swallowed hard, his heart racing, his cheeks red, his trousers once again growing uncomfortable as Heavy leaned over the desk, grinning so handsomely and bringing back thoughts of his dream. Even if this were just some multi-layered wet dream, he hoped to never awaken. But here, with the giant so close, looking so self-assured, Medic was reasonably sure this was truly, wholly real. And he felt dizzy for it.
"So what do you say, Doktor?"
Medic swallowed hard. Playing it cool was for suckers. "I say why wait for after work?" He leaned in, bringing their faces close, challenging Heavy. "I'll make us coffee in the morning."
Heavy quirked an eyebrow, booming out a delighted laugh as Medic stood from his seat and swept the desktop clean with his hand, sending papers flying everywhere. Soon, Medic's back slammed onto the desktop, and Heavy was atop him.
