Bughead Appreciation Week - Day 1 Bughead Fandom Love Day

First of all: thank you @bugheadcentral for putting this together! I think we all need this.

I won’t even attempt to name all the people in this fandom I’m thankful for because I will inevitably forget someone and feel terrible about it!

I have been in this fandom since Jan. 2017 and so many people have entered (and some since exited but I still remember them fondly) my life because of this crazy show. There’s too many to name in just one post (and I have mommy brain and would forget some of you)!

If we’ve ever interacted, I hope I made you feel like you mattered and like you brought something into my life. You all have. So here are a few blanket statements:

1. I’m so very thankful for all our Bughead fic writers who keep finding new ways of writing our ship falling in love over and over again in thousands of different manners. They have been especially important since canon has been failing us.

2. Thank you to all the wonderful gif makers. I stopped watching at 4.16 and you guys allow me to see only the good Bughead stuff that’s happened since then and remind me of all the wonderful moments we got before things got so completely messed up.

3. Thank you to the ones I call the 'Bughead commentators' because even though I stopped watching, through following your blogs, I can keep up with what’s happening in the land of Bughead on Riverdale.

4. To every single one of you who has encouraged my writing in any way, liked, shared, commented on my stuff: thank you! You enrich my online life and bring me joy. I’m grateful for you.

5. And finally, thank you to all the artists who’ve drawn Bughead. I hope it’s no secret how much I adore each of you, just look at my art collection and you’ll see that.

On our very first day at Harvard, a very wise Professor quoted Aristotle: "The law is reason free from passion." Well, no offense to Aristotle, but in my three years at Harvard I have come to find that passion is a key ingredient to the study and practice of law -- and of life. 2023 FFRC - August ⚔️🛡️

Hello friends! Autumn is my favourite time of year because the weather is lovely and there is no snow yet - unfortunately it doesn't last long here but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. I hope you're able to find things that make you happy!

I've had quite a few new followers, so I'll explain what this is. I participate in the @fanfic-reading-challenge every year and once a month, I share my reading progress and give a few fic recs that I particularly enjoyed this month. The challenge has various completion levels - and if you're looking for something to help motivate you to read new things or expand your range - or even if you just want to challenge yourself, you should come take a look. You don't have to wait until the new year to start - and there are a bunch of us on the Discord server (none of whom read any of the pairings/fandoms that I read btw😂) and it's a really nice and encouraging place to be.

I read lots of really great stories this month - lots of Fexi at the beginning of the month and then I slid into reading a bunch of GoT fic because we're rewatching the whole series with our daughter (she's a big Tyrion fan). I finally cracked 15 million words read and with a few months to go I'm hoping my year-long goal of 20 million won't be out of the realm of possibility - so go me!

Three Weeks, Ten States, and One Million Reasons to Fall for You by @leftennant (Darcy/Bucky - E 14/14)  Summary: When Darcy considers all the things she never planned to do, going on a ten state road trip with the Winter Soldier ranks right up there with jumping off the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier sans parachute. Falling for said Winter Soldier somewhere between New York and New Orleans? Never. Gonna. Happen. Probably, at least. I mean, he is pretty damn sexy when he's not glaring at her. Whatever. She's only in it for the taser batons. Notes: Who doesn't love a Road Trip fic? It felt summery. And it's funny - Steve and Natasha also feature and they are adorable.

Notes: The perfect post-finale epilogue. I don't generally consider the last three seasons canon (Riverdale ended in 4x16 with a future of Yale and pizza and mysteries to me) - but if we have to deal with the mess that they gave us - at least there are fic writers who write amazing and glorious stories for all of us. Today on stuff I keep meaning to do, an updated writing post to pin, now with added Actually Everything. My intent is just to edit this for updates instead of making new posts; we’ll see how that goes.

Things I Have Written:

She-Ra (my beloved)

Catradora & Best Friends Squad hijinks, front to finish. Including 100+k words of post-canon stories focusing on the Best Friends Squad as they have space adventures (The Squad Goes Intergalactic), the super short one about predestination (Remade all the time), the also super short one where catradora doesn’t get married (Only Constant), the much longer one I wrote with @fuhadeza​ where catradora gets married a lot (The Thing About Forever), the self-indulgent one about fiber art (Twist; talk to me about spinning!), and the one where they’re Arthurian Knights that’s secretly an ode to the whole thing Tristram/Lamorak have going on (I will do you gentleness).

Riverdale (Rest In Chaos) 

Join me in the descent from Jughead’s impenetrably pretentious s5 polyam-subtext-but-textually-bughead-because-Jughead’s-unreliable introspection that you should skip unless you’re up for an endurance challenge (Another Love Song for Betty Cooper) to Betty’s much more succinct and readable adventures in being aromantic but cool to make out with him (An Antonym for Serenade) to wait actually I think I’m going all in on the Betty/Archie/Veronica/Jughead polyamory (alternative solutions for gordian knots) to cool they have superpowers but only Betty/Veronica/Archie get to quite literally come (In then out, and other ways to breathe) to POP THE CHAMPAGNE THE OT4 IS CANON let’s get Jughead back in there, yeah he’s confused about it too (In which Reggie Mantle is not invited to the polycule). Somewhere in there I also wrote a completely canon compliant character study of the Biblical Angel Raphael (Shall the water not remember).

Star Wars (is a fun time)

Weird little philosophical things about Count Dooku’s Qui-Gon Jinn guilt (this thing of darkness), Ezra Bridger & Leia Organa almost hooking up as reckless teens in the least sexy encounter ever and never talking about it ever again (Requiem for a Misspent Youth), Hera Syndulla & Luke Skywalker talking because I think they should talk (They talk about Jedi), and the uncomfortable generational angst that just kind of lives between Luke Skywalker & Ahsoka Tano (Chiasmus).

Stranger Things (is also here)

Gets its own section because I have two more I’ll be super sad if I never finish. Currently two Steve fics (the king is dead, Steve Harrington is Having a Crisis Today) and one Robin fic (Party Plan) in which everyone assumes everyone else is straight, everyone is wrong, and it leads to silliness with a side of feelings. Very, very robust drafts of the Nancy and Eddie fic very much continue to exist in my drafts and oh boy would I love to ffs finish them.

Other

Midsummer Night’s Dream ot4 shenanigans (four bosoms and one troth), a non-linear Arcane fic about CaitVi (Pins & String), a more important Arcane fic about spotlights ([that one saying about a nail]), the one about the fairy tale you’re more likely to know (about 12 Princesses, Dancing), the one about the fairy tale you’re less likely to know (Jorinde & Joringel; Fraxinella), concerning changelings (original work), concerning dragons (Game of Thrones/Harry Potter xover), concerning witches (The Squire’s Tales by Gerald Morris; the company of witches), concerning punching god(s) in the face (RWBY; if it had to perish twice), Harry Potter house sorting meta (Out of Sorts), a very silly Destiel fix-it fic (how soon unaccountable), an even sillier Teen Wolf fic ft. none of the characters anyone cares about (Brett Talbot’s Last Week in Beacon Hills), a character study of Mulan from the Once Upon A Time TV show (Tactical Advantage), gay shit about the Enchanted sequel for some reason (Some Enchanted Evening), and now there’s a HSMTMTS one about the inherent homoeroticism of being romantic rivals in two different sequential love triangles ([line from I Don’t Dance here])

And of course all of it is on ao3 here. 

I could totally end the post here, in which case it would be reasonably sized, very informative, and in no way make any promises I cannot keep. But where’s the fun in that, so...

...Things In My Drafts Folder (She-Ra, unless indicated otherwise):

I have a lot of drafts, and I’m writing them very slowly. Turns out, it takes longer to write things when you are (a) busy and (b) hopping between ten drafts at the whim of your brain instead of focusing on just one. The good news is that, historically speaking, when I stick with a hobby for a full year it tends to mean it’s not going anywhere. So while I can’t promise I’ll end up finishing all of these, the highest chance is that I’ll finish a bunch. Just...slowly.

(Edit 4/16/22: just...SO slowly. And I’m gonna run ttrpg again now so like...the slowest. But the drafts all DO still exist.)(Edit to add 8/31/23: I still really do want to finish these bc I am extremely proud of them but like idk who knows when. Ttrpg is going great tho so like hmu to talk about arthurian roleplay I guess)

Most of these fics have titles already, but I’m vaguely and nonsensically superstitious about announcing them so formally so early. So I...won’t.

The one where Catra & Glimmer have a space adventure ft. all of Catra’s shitty bosses. (I started this draft last summer, forgot about it for most of the year, and then proceeded to write a ton for it two nights ago. So: case in point about this stuff getting written just slowly.)

Adora And Her Spaceship.

The highkey catradora romance amnesia fic where I name the chapters after poems because sometimes I get to be pretentious, as a treat.

The catradora au that’s mostly about dragons and a little about a bad pun.

The star trek voyager au. Yes, also catradora, it’s all catradora.

Possibly a seamista fic??

An arranged marriage au that’s so deeply and totally backburnered that I’m not even bolding it but which I want to mention here on the off chance that if I ever get around to finishing it I can look back from a decade in the future and tell my past self I told you so.

(not She-Ra) Another Supernatural fic - aka the one where I rewrite plots for a bunch of female characters, because that’s what I did while I binged that show but also dear goodness it needs so much editing

(not She-Ra) The one where Anakin Skywalker is a shitty teen force ghost.

(not She-Ra) I would like to finish the Stranger Things drafts a lot yeah. Same with a bunch of Arcane stuff.

In conclusion: sorry for the long post. Extra sorry if you are someone who follows me for non-writing/non-She-Ra reasons. If it helps, it’ll probably be a long time until I make another one. In the meantime, my writing tag continues to be #forsythiarising, and if I remember to I may make a series of posts about the titles of my existing fics bc I have a lot of meta and love titles a lot. As with most of all this: we shall see.

Blocked: A Bughead Fanfic

Summary: Jughead blocks Betty from Facebook because he doesn’t want to see her “happy couple” posts with Archie. He then gets some interesting information.

Word Count: 2023 (I was not intending for it to be this long, but whatever)

Jughead sat on his laptop, his eyes glued to his screen. This was nothing new, but if anyone saw what the boy was staring at, they would be thoroughly confused.

Facebook. He had gotten the damned thing only because a certain blonde someone had practically forced him to create an account six months ago. Well, it was more Veronica than Betty. Once the new girl had searched for him and not found a trace, she had insisted he get one. If he was being honest with himself, Betty’s pleading had done him in.

Now, he was about to block one of his only three – four, if he counted Kevin Keller – friends on the site. And it was all because of some stupid feelings.

He had realized his feelings for Betty Cooper only a few months ago, which just so happened to be right around the time she began dating Archie. If he had his way, he would be deleting Facebook altogether, but he didn’t need the whole Scooby Gang breathing down his neck and asking questions. So he was doing the only thing he figured wouldn’t raise suspicion – he was blocking the girl he had a crush on.

It was juvenile, he knew. However, he wasn’t sure that he could take much more of the sweet couple photos that both Betty and Archie posted on Facebook – the two sharing a shake at Pop’s; holding hands at the park; basically just the two of them being perfect together. He was sick of it; it was bad enough that he had to see it in person every day, but to see it online, too? Not cool.

However, the process was a bit complicated. He first had to figure out how to block someone, which caused him to more research than he had wanted to do for this endeavor. Once he had read that the person being blocked would not be notified, from at least five outside sources, he was ready. He clicked on Betty Cooper’s profile picture, a sweet photo of Archie kissing her cheek while she giggled and looked away from the camera. Jughead’s stomach flipped – he wanted to be the person making her giggle.

Betty Cooper will no longer be able to:

§  Invite you to events or groups

§  Start a conversation with you

§  Add you as a friend

If you're friends, blocking Betty Cooper will also unfriend her.

If you just want to limit what you share with Betty or see less of her on Facebook, you can take a break from her instead.

Jughead clicked ‘take a break’ but after reading the description, he decided he needed something a bit more permanent. He figured he could just resend her a friend request and play dumb when she asked what happened. After all, he was unfamiliar with the concepts of social media, which played to his advantage in this scenario.

A bit of fear along with adrenaline flooded his veins as Jughead hit ‘Confirm.’

You've blocked Betty Cooper. We're sorry that you've had this experience.

Jughead rubbed his temples and closed his laptop.

As fate would have it, Betty Cooper had chosen that exact day to clear out her friends list. Her life was too overwhelming, and it was bad enough that she had to satisfy the general public on a daily basis. Facebook had quickly turned into the online equivalent, and Betty was over it. She went through every single person on her friends list, evaluating each person with her own personal criterion. Did they post too much? Too little? Had they talked since school started that year? Were they relatives she wanted to keep in touch with? The list went on.

She had just gotten to the letter ‘J’ on her list, when someone – or, lack of someone – caught her eye. Curious, she searched ‘Jughead Jones’ in the search bar, but nothing came up. She picked up her phone to text Jughead, then thought better of it.

From: Betty

To: Ronnie

              Hey, is Jughead on Facebook anymore? (9:01pm)

Her reply came a few seconds later.

From: Ronnie

To: Bettz

              As far as I know, yeah. Why? (9:01pm)

Betty reread Veronica’s words. What the hell? She thought to herself as she typed.

From: Betty

To: Ronnie

              Weird. I’m going through my friends list, and he’s not on here. Thoughts? (9:05pm)

              Could you see if he’s still your friend? I’m confused. (9:05pm)

 From: Ronnie

To: Betty

              Yeah. One sec. (9:06pm)

              He’s still my friend. Is he not still yours? (9:10pm)

Veronica’s response shocked Betty. Her shock quickly turned to anger, and she typed furiously.

From: Betty

To: Ronnie

              NO!!! I THINK HE BLOCKED ME. (9:12pm)

              BASTARD (9:12pm)

From: Ronnie

To: Bettz

              WTF?!? DO I NEED TO KICK HIM IN THE BALLS FOR YOU?!?! (9:14pm)

From: Betty

To: Ronnie

              No. Thanks, though. I’ll figure it out tomorrow. I got homework to do. Night, girl! Love you! (9:15pm)

From: Ronnie

To: Bettz

              ❤ ❤ ❤ (9:17pm)

The next day at school passed by slowly. Betty had not seen Jughead all day, and her anger built every time she thought about him blocking her.

She finally caught him after classes in the Blue and Gold offices. He sat on his laptop, typing away as if nothing was wrong. Fuming, Betty stalked over to him, her hands in fists at her sides.

He looked up at her, nodded, and continued typing.

She was the first to break the silence. “Hey.”

“Hey,” he replied, not looking at her.

“Is there something you wanna talk about?”

“What do you mean?”

Betty seethed internally. Surely, he couldn’t be serious?!

Jughead, on the other hand, froze. How had she figured it out so quickly? Had Facebook lied and notified her anyway? He looked up at his blonde friend, and he was positive she could read the panic on his face.

Seconds passed in silence. “So, you mean to tell me that you just accidentally happened to block me from Facebook?!” She wasn’t shouting, but her voice was low and quiet with rage. Jughead quickly realized that he wished she were yelling at him.

“Uh…not particularly.”

Betty rolled her eyes. “What the hell does that mean?”

“Just that I didn’t do it accidentally.”

“So you did it on purpose, then?”

“Not by choice.”

Betty laughed mirthlessly. “So. You mean to tell me that someone held a gun to your head and made you block me? Who, might I ask, was this horrible person?” 

It was in that moment that Jughead decided to come clean. He couldn’t walk around feeling this unrequited like/love/lust/whatever-it-was anymore. “You.” He said the word so softly that Betty wasn’t sure that she had heard him correctly. She paused, taking in his demeanor. He had stopped typing, and he refused to make eye contact with her.

Betty felt like she had been stabbed in the chest with one word. Her anger melted away, and concern took its place. She pulled up a chair and sat across from him. He set his laptop on the chair next to him and gave the girl across from him his full attention.

“Juggie,” she began, her voice practically a whisper. “I’m sorry.” She grabbed his hand, and Jughead almost lost the ability to speak.

“For what?” His voice caught in his throat as he replied.

“Whatever I did to make you angry.” Jughead sighed internally – at least he now knew that she didn’t know about his true feelings for her. Knowing this turned out to be both a relief and agony at the same time. However, it made him angry to think that she felt that she had to apologize for nothing.

He turned his wrist so that he caught his hand in hers. He let out a wry chuckle as he stared at their intertwined hands. “Betty.” His eyes met hers. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”

Her eyebrows furrowed. “But…why did you block me, then?”

Jughead sighed. This was going to be harder than he thought. “I just got tired of seeing your posts.” Surprise grew on her face, but she said nothing. Jughead took it as his cue to continue. “I mean, you and Archie are a cute couple, but I see you guys being cute in real life. I didn’t see why I needed to see it on the internet, too.”

The two were silent, unable to look at each other. Their only contact was their hands. Jughead thought that he had said the wrong thing, and was about to take his words back when Betty spoke up.

“Juggie, when was the last time you actually spent time with me and Archie together?”

“Every day at lunch.”

Betty sighed, frustrated, “Outside of school.”

At that, Jughead had to think. Sure, he had hung out with Betty and Archie, but together? It had been a while. He had been so preoccupied with his novel and his feelings for Betty that he realized that he had practically abandoned his friends for the past few weeks.

“Shit. Three weeks?” He blushed, ashamed at his complete disregard for his friends. Since admitting his feelings for Betty to himself, he had inadvertently distanced himself from the Scooby Gang.

“Yeah. What you see at school isn’t the whole picture. Archie and I haven’t been right for weeks. Everyone expects us to be perfect, so we’ve been keeping the façade up for a little over a month. Juggie, Archie and I broke up six weeks ago.”

At that, his eyes met hers again. “What?”

Betty smiled slightly. “Archie and I haven’t been together for six weeks.”

As happy as he felt, Jughead felt that this wasn’t the time to celebrate. “I’m sorry you two broke up. You guys always seemed so perfect for each other.”

Betty rolled her eyes. “That’s what we thought, too. Turns out, we’re too imperfect for each other.” Jughead’s concern must have registered on his face, because Betty then said, “Oh, don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”

He looked at her, a bit disbelieving. “Are you sure, Betts? I’m here if you need to talk.”

“Thanks, Juggie. V and I already talked about it over many pints of ice cream. Besides, I’ve got someone I’ve got my eye on.” She blushed, and lowered her gaze.

It was Jughead’s turn to feel as though a knife had just sliced through him. He smiled, and settled on the classic, “I’m happy you’re happy, Betts,” response.

“I can always count on you, Juggie. Thanks for being such a good friend.” She removed her hand from his, noting how much larger his hands were than hers. Ignoring the sudden loss of heat, she stood up. Jughead followed suit, and the two hugged. Betty couldn’t help but notice just how safe she felt in Jughead’s arms.

She thought back to the day she and Archie officially broke up. Archie had suspected that Betty had feelings for Jughead. When he asked her about it, she had brushed it off, because even she hadn’t been all that sure of her feelings at the time. That was six weeks ago; this was now. And now, she wanted to do something about it.

As their hug ended, Betty paused and brought her hands to Jughead’s face. She closed her eyes, mentally bracing herself for what she was about to say, and the impending rejection she was sure she would face.

Jughead waited patiently as his friend seemed to steel herself for something emotional. He wanted to kiss her, but he needed to hear what she had to say. Finally, she opened her eyes and looked up at him. When she spoke, her voice was barely a whisper. “Juggie. It’s you. I like you.”

His smile was so big, she thought that he was going to burst. Her words were like a catalyst; he kissed her and everything felt right with the world.

When they came up for air, Jughead confessed.

“You do know I only blocked you because I like you, right?”

Betty laughed. “I guess it’s time you fix that, and we update our relationship status.”

Summary: Amnesiac Betty reads her high school journal about her great love with Jughead with whom things ended badly when they were 18. She’s back in Riverdale and has meals delivered daily from Pops by a cute guy named Forsythe. They soon fall in love. Will she get her memories back and realize Juggie from the journals is Forsythe from Pops? What happens when she remembers what drove them apart in the first place? Was the amnesia a blessing in disguise making her forget all her past trauma? Will they make it this time or will history repeat itself?

Feb. 9, 2017 Dear Diary, new year, new me! Ok so the new year started over a month ago, but I decided to start this new diary even before I’d finished the last one so that all the Archie drama would stay in the old diary. This is a brand new start! I’m no longer the pathetic loser hoping to date her dum-dum neighbour! I am Elizabeth Anne Cooper, journalist! That’s right: I officially revived the Blue and Gold at school today! I even managed to rope in Juggie so I wouldn’t be doing it all alone. He and I will solve this mystery of who killed Jason, I just know it!

Betty smiles. She wants to remember this girl that she apparently used to be. The doctor said she should move back home, into a familiar setting that might help jog back her memory. Her mom apparently couldn’t be bothered to move back to Riverdale with her and help with her recovery, but she did give her the keys to the house they used to live in and where Betty spent most of her life before heading out to college. She wonders what kind of relationship she must have had with her mother where she wouldn’t come stay with her now. Yet another mystery to add to the ever-growing pile of what her life used to be before she got amnesia.

She puts down the journal and looks for the others that she would have written prior to this one. Maybe she’ll get a sense of who these people are? Archie, Juggie (that can’t be a real name, right?), Jason and most of all, herself. She doesn’t remember any of it and evidently, the universe doesn’t want her remembering because there are no other journals to be found. Maybe she took them with her and they burned in the fire along with the rest of her stuff and with her memories apparently. But why would she leave only this one behind? Maybe she’ll understand if she reads more diary entries.

But for now, she’s hungry and there’s nothing to eat in the house. She remembers her taxi driver saying something about a diner. She pulls out her phone and types: ‘Riverdale Diner’ Pop's Chock'lit Shoppe is the first result so, after quickly browsing their menu, she calls.

Man’s voice: “Pops Diner, how may I help you?”

“Hi, my name is Betty Cooper and I’ve just moved back into my childhood home at 111, Elm Street. I don’t have any food yet so I’d like to order delivery.”

Man on the phone, hesitantly: “Hum, yeah, sure thing Betty. What did you want?”

She orders the ‘Pops Special’ which she’d found online when looking for the phone number. The man assures her she’ll have her food in 30 minutes so she sits more comfortably on the couch to read a few more journal entries while she waits.

Feb. 24, 2017 Dear Diary, Juggie and I have been working on solving Jason’s murder every day. I really like spending time with him again. We sort of lost touch there for a while, but now it’s like we’ve fallen right back into our old rhythm and familiar habits. We went to Jason’s memorial this afternoon and Jughead looked really cute in his suit. I don’t know why I’m writing about it, it’s really not important… But also, I can’t stop thinking about it. What is wrong with me? Do I have a crush on Jughead? No, it’s gotta be the suit. Yeah, let’s go with that.

2023 FFRC - May 🏉

Hello friends! I hope you had a lovely May! Aside from our ABYSMAL provincial election (Boo Hiss!) and the northern forest fires that made the local air quality the worst in the world (for a couple of days anyway) - things here have been pretty decent. Rugby season was a success, and my Bethy added a second Provincials title to her name (two days after her 17th birthday)! If you're following my Insta, you can see her making tries in eye-black and tackling down girls 4 inches taller than she is. It's been a really fun season.

Unsurprisingly, I wasn't able to read quite as much as I did last month, but I'm only 16 tasks away from finishing the whole @fanfic-reading-challenge - so that's neat. Some of those are monthly and I can't complete them until December - so I'm going to sit back and chill and just re-read stuff that I like.

May 2023

This month felt less successful than last - but we also weren't down with the cold-from-hell anymore either so there was a bit less time for reading. There were also several shows I watch that ended this week - so I was watching stuff instead.

You know what is interesting? When you find a show you like so much on it's own that you don't really see out fic for it. Strange. I wonder if this is how "normal" people are - you know the ones (they say they are the ones without hyperfixations but I've BEEN to a hockey game and I know non-fic reading hyperfixations when I see them). ANYWAY - I've read a few Ted Lasso fics but haven't really sought any out. I might after the finale now though - but not because I'm searching for fixing, but because I'm not ready to say goodbye to everyone yet. I see you out there with your Midge/Lenny fics and your Succession fics - and I love you all for continuing to make art once the inspiration has concluded. You guys rock!

Notes: A Groundhog Day Curse fic. I've reread this five times. It's clever and I get more out of it each time I read it. SUPER good.

Fratellino by @loflight501 (Andy/Booker - E 1/1)

Notes: The Old Guard is a comfort movie for me. I've never sought out fic before - but this was SUPER good. Post canon. Delightful.

Sinclair-Mackenzie by BIFF1 (Mac/Dick- M 18/18)

Notes: Sincerely, my favourite Veronica Mars fic on the planet. I reread it often and it makes my heart happy. It's not all fluff and rainbows - but it deals with Mac's birth swap (by way of her brother marrying her sister lol) and the Cassidy feelings - and it's features Noir writer Logan writing long distance love letters to Veronica through his novels.

All Creatures Great and Small by @middleagedresidentofriverdale (Bughead - T 6/6)

Notes: This might be the cutest animal rescue story since I fell in love with a pangolin. This was really sweet and true to character and a wonderful AU. It was so lovely and was exactly what I needed this month. 💙💛

2023 FFRC - July🌞

Hello friends! July passed in the blink of an eye. I'm definitely not looking forward to the end of summer (because it snows like 9 months of the year where I live and I just want to freaking enjoy my back-yard okay!?) Anyway - I hope you've all been enjoying the sunshine.

As far as the @fanfic-reading-challenge goes- I’m 5 tasks away from finishing the whole thing - (4 of which I can’t finish until December) so that’s neat. Gotta get up to 15 million words and then I'll just be waiting to finish the monthly tasks. This month I got to help Juulna sort out next year's list of tasks though and that was a super fun time.

July 2023

As you can see, I read lots of really great stories this month. I reread a lot of fic and then double read fics too - there isn't a lot of new content for Wenvier so I reread over and over again. It's never a bad time to reread. I also read a Needle Bughead story that I'd held off on because of the tags - but it was wonderful - as all of her stories are. I'm glad I came back to that one. And given the circumstances, I think I'm going to deep dive into some Fexi favourites this week - so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way. 💔

Dear Annabel Lee by @ozmathegreatand (Wenvier - T 6/6)  Summary: Wherein Wednesday is forced to Cyrano her own love story when she is tasked to take up the mantle of Annabel Lee, the school newsletter's biweekly advice column, and receives a letter from Xavier asking for advice on how to get over her. Notes: It's always a special treat when someone gifts you a fic. BUT it's even more special when the fic is as fun and lovely as this one. Wednesday is forced to be an advice columnist and Xavier unknowingly bears is soul to her. It's funny and sweet and yet still perfectly in character. It's wonderful. Read and Review. Do it! 😉

Xavier Knows Wednesday Loves Him (series) by Agmo (Wenvier - T/E 4 fics) 

Summary: Xavier keeps a running list in a notebook in his desk drawer.

Notes: This story started out with one story with bullet points of how Xavier knew Wednesday Loved him - then expanded into this SUPER cute fic with a chapter for each one of those points (but the chapters are sometimes only a few lines long). Then there are a couple more one-shots to really flesh out some of the bigger points. And each and every one of them was delightful. All told, the series of 4 stories is only 20,000 words, so it's not long but it's wonderful and funny and touching and perfect. Give it a try!

Starving Faithful by @shesonlylittle (Fez/Lexi- E 1/1)  Summary: In most respects, he’s a nineteen year old. With the glaring exception that he can feel where his wings have been clipped— and that he can nudge the material world a little, here and there, from time to time.  He has childhood memories, a normal human’s wants and desires, but he also knows he’s got a divine mission. And that he has it because he fucked up somehow. Ash was supposed to be his redemption. He was supposed to watch over him, keep him safe.  -- or: Fallen Angel Fez has one last shot at redemption, his new charge Lexi Howard. Guardian Angels probably shouldn't be down bad for the humans in their safekeeping, though. Notes: I have a lot of feelings right now. After yesterday's news - the first thing I did was go find and read a Fexi fic to calm my broken heart. This one is SO good. Fez is SO well written. And there is a lot of neat religiosity that fits with him too. It hurts to read because we've lost Angus - but it has a happy ending and it's beautiful. So you should read it too!
