Butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii)
Another on of my crappy attempts at handheld focus stacked macro. The technique is quite simple: set af to m, set release to continuous "High," focus at nearest object then back out just a tad. NOW mash that shutter release button and twist the focus ring steadily. Bitch and moan when photoshop has trouble due to a shitty stack. I call this technique "Focus Pokus." Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Top Tips for Buying Butterfly Bushes Online for Your Garden
Creating a lush, vibrant garden is a dream for many homeowners, and adding butterfly bushes can significantly enhance its charm. Butterfly bushes (Buddleja), known for their fragrant flowers and ability to attract butterflies, are an excellent choice for gardeners looking to bring life and color to their outdoor spaces.
Tips to Ensure you Make the Best Choices for your Garden
1. Understand the Benefits of Butterfly Bushes
Before diving into the buying process, it’s essential to understand why butterfly bushes are a great addition to any garden. These low-maintenance plants thrive in various climates, bloom for long periods, and provide an important nectar source for pollinators like butterflies and bees. Their stunning clusters of flowers come in a range of colors, such as purple, white, pink, and blue, making them a versatile option for garden design.
2. Research Reputable Online Retailers
The first step in buying butterfly bushes online is to find a trustworthy seller. Look for online nurseries or gardening stores with positive reviews, clear shipping policies, and detailed product descriptions. Reputable websites will often include images of the plants, growing guides, and customer testimonials to help you make an informed decision.
One such trusted source is Mail Order Trees, which offers a wide variety of high-quality butterfly bushes for sale online, ensuring that you receive healthy plants ready to thrive in your garden.
3. Know Your Garden's Requirements
Before purchasing, consider your garden’s specific needs. Butterfly bushes typically prefer well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight. Measure the available space to ensure the bush has enough room to grow without overcrowding other plants. Check the plant’s size at maturity to determine if it fits your garden layout.
Additionally, think about your garden's color scheme and choose flower colors that complement your existing plants. For example, purple or pink flowers can create a bold statement, while white blooms add an elegant touch.
4. Choose the Right Variety
Butterfly bushes come in a wide range of varieties, each with unique characteristics. Some popular options include:
Buddleja davidii: Known as the "common butterfly bush," this variety grows quickly and produces fragrant flowers.
Buddleja globosa: Features round, orange-yellow blooms and is ideal for creating visual interest.
Dwarf Varieties: Perfect for smaller gardens or container planting, these compact plants still produce stunning flowers without taking up too much space.
Read the descriptions on the retailer's website to ensure you're selecting a variety that suits your garden's needs and aesthetic preferences.
5. Check for Disease Resistance
When buying butterfly bushes online, opt for disease-resistant varieties. This will reduce the need for chemical treatments and ensure your plants remain healthy throughout the growing season. Reliable retailers will often highlight disease-resistant options in their product listings.
6. Understand Shipping and Planting Instructions
Pay close attention to the shipping process. Quality online nurseries will package their plants carefully to prevent damage during transit. Upon receiving your butterfly bushes, follow the provided planting instructions to ensure they establish well in your garden.
Generally, butterfly bushes should be planted in spring or fall, allowing their roots to grow before extreme weather conditions. Prepare the soil by adding compost and water the plant thoroughly after planting.
7. Consider Eco-Friendly Practices
When purchasing butterfly bushes for sale online, prioritize sellers that promote sustainable practices. Look for nurseries that use eco-friendly packaging or support pollinator conservation efforts. By doing so, you contribute to environmental well-being while enhancing your garden's beauty.
8. Monitor Your Plants After Planting
After planting your butterfly bushes, keep an eye on their growth and health. Regular watering, pruning, and fertilizing will encourage blooming and prevent overcrowding. Removing spent flowers can also extend the blooming period, ensuring your garden stays vibrant for longer.
Conclusion
Buying butterfly bushes online is a convenient and rewarding way to bring beauty and life to your garden. By researching reputable retailers, understanding your garden's needs, and choosing the right varieties, you can create a thriving outdoor space that attracts pollinators and provides year-round enjoyment.

#2635 - Buddleja davidii - Butterfly Bush
AKA Buddleia davidii, Buddleja shimidzuana, summer lilac, or orange eye. Named after Reverend Adam Buddle, an English botanist, and Basque missionary and naturalist Father Armand David, who was the first European to report the shrub.
A shrub in the family Scrophulariaceae, native to central China and also Japan. Widely grown as an ornamental, with almost 200 cultivars and numerous hybrids. Unsurprisingly, an invasive species in temperate regions including the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and New Zealand. The plant frequently grew on urban bomb sites during the aftermath of World War II, earning it the nickname of "the bomb site plant".
