[legalbrats] !❆! Datz with Nahyuta
Send me !❆! for my muse’s reaction to yours shoving them into a snowbank (Accepting!) @legalbrats has dunked a monk.
Nahyuta had been walking with Datz, and going over details of whatever case he was working on, to relay to Apollo, of course, when suddenly he was pushed back into a large mound of white, fluffy snow.
He was certain he had a dumb look of shock on his face, and he sort of just laid there for a few seconds, dumbfounded.

legalbrats:
“Eh-heh…” Datz chuckled apologetically and then cleared his throat, “Ahem, mm.. Y’know, I’ve been thinkin’ about it.” He had to keep his mind off of the doctors and the bullet in his abdomen, so he actually had time to think.
“‘Cause I figured they weren’t there to kill me. They would’ve just shot me right then and there, if they wanted. They coulda even blamed it on KlavGav. Then there were that surrender thing, yeah? So I figure they wanted to take us alive. Myself I understand, sorta, I might have some info they’re after. Not sure what Apollo’s friend has to do with it yet…”
The color drained from Apollo’s face hearing that. Did someone find out about them? Was Klavier in danger just by being here? “It seems more likely that they were targeting you, and Prosecutor Gavin was no more than simply in the middle of the fray.” “You... you really think so?”

@xmfxne gets to visit not one, but two of them!
Having been sitting on a bench in a hall, Klavier stood up with a wince once he saw who was walking towards him.
"Ach, Sch... Herr Forehead!" Klavier put on a small smile, hoping to soothe the other. "You've made it."
He wasn't in a hospital room as he didn't really need to occupy one. There were few bandages and bandaids on him. There were bandages on his right forearm as well as some bruises reaching his wrist. One bandaid was on his left cheek and another was just under his left shoulder. There were probably some bruises hidden under his clothes, if his dirty jeans and the earlier wince were anything to go by.
All in all, he clearly had been through something, but nothing he couldn't walk off.

Forgotten Melody
Closed Starter for @legalbrats
Nahyuta paced back and forth with his brother’s phone up to his ear, already doing research on his other phone as he waited for the person on the other end to pick up. Without knowing who this other person was to Apollo, it was impossible to know where they were, if they were busy, if they were sleeping.
“Hello?!” Nahyuta took a deep breath upon hearing his own voice, realizing how panicked he must have sounded. Something in his mind raised all sorts of red flags, telling him he was putting himself and Apollo and Rayfa in danger by sounding this way... “Is this Klavier?”

In Better Circumstances
@legalbrats liked for a starter with Nahyuta.
Nahyuta slumped into the couch in Justice Law offices. He was a bit glad Apollo hadn’t thrown it out or replaced it, it was, oddly enough, nostalgic to him. It was nice to... decompress for a moment. He’d been up since six, after having been up until two, aiding Apollo with reforming the law and legal system as a whole. He was exhausted, and probably looked like it.
And, with Apollo’s friend visiting him, he was working twice as hard, so that his baby brother could enjoy himself. Speaking of, he knew Apollo was in court, the other was unlikely to be there as well. He’d said something about going shopping? Nahyuta wasn’t sure, it was a passing conversation he vaguely heard between Apollo and the prosecutor. Normally, he liked to be more observant, but he was learning to become more comfortable around his family again, and Apollo seemed to completely trust the other. According to Nahyuta’s logic, there was no reason for distrust. It wasn’t as though he’d been rude, disrespectful, or suspicious in the few times they had met. Then again, in any circumstance in which they’d interacted, someone was tired, panicked, or completely stressed. They had yet to have the luxury of focusing on the pleasantries, Apollo often to blame, for better or for worse.

Childish Letters
Apollo had been wrapping up the last of his cases today, and preparing to leave for an investigation when Nahyuta, of all people, came knocking at his door.  “Hm? Hey, Nahyuta, what’s up?” “Oh, nothing, I just found something interesting while cleaning checking out our old home.” He confessed in his usual tone with a knowing smile. “Oh?” Apollo turned his eyes from the autopsy report he was reading, “like what?”
Nahyuta held an old, red, leather notebook, with a name poorly scratched into the cover twice. Once in Khura’inese characters, once in English letters. The attorney’s eyes widened when reading what was written.
AꟼO⅃⅃O  JUꙄTIↃƎ
He could hardly read the writing, given that the ‘P’s, L’s, ‘J’s, and the like were mostly backwards. Apollo was willing to wager that this was when he was just beginning to learn how to read and write in English, but he couldn’t remember much more than that.  “Woah. I don’t recognize that at all.”  “You were pretty young when you got this. Shall I read what’s inside for you?” Apollo’s bangs drooped at that. “Something tells me I don’t want to know.”
Nahyuta completely ignored his younger brother and opened the old notebook up to the first page. “Dearest Holy Mother,” Apollo stood, wide-eyed and flustered hearing just that. He’d long-since abandoned religion, growing an extreme indifference on the matter. So, hearing something he apparently wrote towards the Holy Mother was jarring and cringe-worthy to him.  “Don’t.”  “Please help Datz find his missing gahguls, and help me find my missing blanckiye. I’m sure he’s very skaret.” Nahyuta continued to read, despite the rapidly approaching Apollo.  “Please stop!” Nahyuta made a soft sniffing sound that was probably an attempt to hide his laughter, but only extended an arm out to stop his little brother from reaching the book and kept reading. “Love, Apollo J. P.S. I love you!”
Nahyuta closed the book with a smug look on his face, and Apollo smacked the book out of his hands and onto the floor with an embarrassed pout.  "I hate you.” “Of course you do. I’ll let you get back to your investigation now.” “Did you just come here to embarrass me?!”

legalbrats:
Datz ignored both, and simply kept walking. Nahyuta would hopefully follow, or at least he wouldn’t get into any other dangerous situation on his own. Apollo had no choice in the matter anyway, being carried and all.
At home, he sat Apollo down and got him a glass of water. That should occupy the boy while Datz got bag of frozen peas and stared at their box of medical supplies. They didn’t need anything more, did they?
“Okie, here.” He offered Apollo the peas wrapped in some spare towel. “Sit on it for now. It’ll freeze your butt bone back in place.”
Apollo kept crying as the others left Yuty to throw his tantrum. He kept crying until he was given a drink of water, where he then did that annoying ‘gulp gulp gasp’ thing that kids always do when drinking water after playing outside.
He soon then tumbled onto to peas, hopeful of fixing his butt bone. “How long?”
(xmfxne) Apollo's toddler scream could be heard first, coming from somewhere in the nearby forest. A four year old Nahyuta soon came running out, and straight to Datz.
"Apollo's stuck! Apollo's stuck!" He cried, pulling his uncle by the arm towards the forest.
Long time ago in the past with @xmfxne
Datz was absolutely not minding his own business when it happened. It was his business to mind others' businesses. Especially since taking care of two young boys had become a part of his business as well.
Now, hearing Apollo scream was not a surprise. It was more concerning when you couldn't hear Apollo at all. Still, there was a big difference between happy screams and not-happy screams. Datz had started to hear the difference, so this one sounded a little worrying.
Then Nahyuta came running and Datz let the boy pull him before picking up the pace himself.
"Apollo's stuck?" He repeated after the boy. Hopefully he didn't sound as bad as Nahyuta. "Where? Where?"

Grieving...
June 18 - 10:00 AM
Khura’in Family Graveyard
It wasn’t Apollo’s first time in the graveyard, after all, he’d been there for Dhurke’s initial burial. Nahyuta really wanted him laid to rest where he died, but Her Mercifulness, Queen Amara, insisted. Insisted that that wretched lie of a tomb be destroyed and replaced with a memorial of some kind. To honor Jove, and to make amends for the trouble Gar’an caused.
The brothers stood before the grave, resting a bouquet of nahmanda and sunflowers atop the still somewhat fresh overturned dirt. Nahyuta quickly kneeled and mumbled some Khura'inese prayer under his lips...
Apollo, on the other hand, stood next to him...staring at the grave. He couldn't read it, but he recognized the name. Dhurke Sahdmadi. He wished he could read the epitaph, but he'd completely forgotten how to read Khura'inese. He wished now that he knew more...
“A father, a leader, a lawyer, a husband, a dragon. A dragon never yields.” Nahyuta read. It was hard for Apollo to not tear up hearing it. It was just like Dhurke. “You wanted to know what was written, yes?”
Apollo swallowed thickly. He couldn’t start crying. He’d make Nahyuta cry too. “Y-yeah...thanks.” He exhaled, ‘scratching’ his nose with the base of his thumb. It hurt.
Nahyuta went back to his prayer. Apollo said his own words. Words he didn’t want his brother to hear.
‘I’m sorry. For the hostile welcoming. I wish I’d been more understanding...but I wasn’t. You welcomed me back with open arms, as if no time had passed, and I...” Apollo lowered his head, blinking away the tears he was holding back. He refused to cry in front of Dhurke. Out of respect. It was the least he could do. ‘I was too busy being hurt. Hurt by the things out of your control. I fed myself lies that I never should have believed...And treated you coldly when all you were trying to do was reunite with me, see me one last time. Be with me one last time...let me see you one last time...I wasn’t...fair...to...you...I won’t cry. I won’t shed tears for you...you wouldn’t want me to, right Dhurke? You’d want me...us...to be strong. Together.... Right?’
It was hard...Hard not to cry. Hard not to miss him. Hard not to feel guilty. He shouldn’t have been angry at him. He doubted his love for him as his son. How could he?
Nahyuta stood, then turned towards his younger brother and put a hand on his shoulder.  “We were only kids, you know.” “Huh?” “When you left. I remember I was...so angry with him.” “You were?” Apollo grew up with Nahyuta long enough to see him get mad and lash out, like anyone else would...and yet, somehow, the idea of him being mad at Dhurke, over him being forced to leave, seemed so oddly impossible for him. Maybe it was because he’d spend over a decade thinking he wasn’t wanted and pawned off to someone else. “We’d...never been apart before then. I wanted to come with you.” “You did?!” Nahyuta nodded. “I didn’t want you to be alone, I didn’t want you to be somewhere where I couldn’t help you if you needed it.” That was just Like Nahyuta, wasn’t it? Wanting to protect his family. “Not a day went by when I didn’t think of you. That is, until Princess Rayfa was born.” “Gee, thanks.” Apollo half-teased, mostly just to lighten the mood.
Nahyuta closed his eyes, raising his free hand.  “Forgive me, I hadn’t meant it as though she replaced you.” There he goes, taking things a but too literally again. “No, no, I get it.” “Even then, I wish you had been there to meet her. It was when she and Mother were...taken away. That I understood.” Nahyuta sighed, looking back at Dhurke’s tombstone. “I was thankful that he did what he did. You weren’t here...and that meant you were safe. It was selfish of me to feel the way I did prior.”
“No it wasn’t.” Nahyuta froze at that, looking back at Apollo. “Hm?”  “I know Gar’an probably made you think this way, but it’s not selfish to want to be with the ones you love.” “Apollo...” “And Dhurke would want you to understand that. He would want us to have each other like this.” “Apollo...” Nahyuta rested his head on Apollo’s shoulder, and Apollo wrapped him in an embrace.  “You’re not selfish, Nahyuta. It’s not at all selfish to protect the ones you love. That’s what Dhurke wanted for us. He wanted us to be safe. Even if it meant he was hurt in the process. He wanted us to have each other like this...” “S-stop...” His voice wavered in the same way that it had when they found out Dhurke had been dead days prior to his trial. He could feel his older brother’s breathinf hitch against his shoulder. Apollo rubbed soft, soothing circles against his back. He was an expert at comforting others like this by now.
The brothers stayed like that for some time, Apollo merely stared at the grave, feeling better with Nahyuta’s justification of ‘we were only kids.’ He couldn’t have known any better...And though he should have been more understanding as an adult, he wasn’t at first, and nothing would change that. No, instead, he had the power to change his perception of things now.
After a while, Nahyuta pulled away, his expression neutral, as if nothing had ever happened. They both were refusing to cry, knowing Dhurke wouldn’t want either of them to shed tears over him.  “We should move on. After all,” Nahyuta tilted his head with a soft, yet genuine smile, “do you not have another person to call?” “Oh, right! Mr. Alguy! He’s probably home by now, too!”  “We should hurry before he goes off to bed for the night.”
The brothers left the cemetery, feeling much better about their circumstances and with even stronger resolves. There was no guarantee that they wouldn't cry today, but they had the strength of each other to fall back on. They could rely on their nonbiological brotherhood as a pillar of unwavering strength. As family.

Feral siblings from a feral dad, alright, got it.
Both brothers gave the other something akin to a death glare at the common.
"Say what you will about us, but leave Dhurke out of this."
"Insulting the deceased... have you no honor?!"
"Dhurke may have been rash and hot headed, but he still was the type of person to take whatever life threw at him and rolled with the punches! With a smile on his face no less!"
"And laughter in his voice!"

legalbrats:
Just when Datz was about to reach the deepest level of being touched, the two young attorneys changed the topic. Datz chuckled and jumped on the opportunity to tell some crazy Datz style story.
“Eh-heh, if you insist…” There was a brief pause, no longer than a second, and Datz started, “So! Since Apollo’s busy and I haven’t got a thing to do, I take his friend, KlavGav, sightseein’. Not just any sightseein’! I was showin’ him my favorite spots. So, we’re on our way to my spot number two, and it’s a way out of the city, when suddenly! I notice someone followin’ us. Too late, though, ‘cause they start shootin’! I yell at KlavGav to cover and push him down to the ground and grass. They stop shootin’ and yell at us to surrender. 'Those motherfuckin’ royalists! [Very offensive Khura'inese swear]!’ I think. And I call 'em that! Which was how I almost got shot. But then I remember a secret path to one of our hide-outs. We need to jump down, but I don’t gotta time to explain it to KlavGav, so I just drag him after me, which was when I actually got shot. It makes me stumble and I fall down and break my leg. Thankfully, I also break KlavGav’s fall, haha. So, I drag him inside a secret passage and the stupid royalists think we jumped to our death off a cliff! HAR-HAR-ouch-!”
Datz grabbed onto his bandaged stomach with a painful grimace.
Apollo was ready to cry- his face just stung so much. The idea of Klavier being shot at, and Datz being shot-- God, that’s how Dhurke died.
“Don-don’t strain yourself!” “Damn those Loyalists!” Nahyuta just about growled. He quickly went from pale to red with a glare that only resembled his father’s.
“...” Apollo didn’t like seeing him so mad-- he completely understood, Apollo was certain that, as soon as Klavier and Datz were both okay, he’ll be just as pissed, but for now, seeing his older brother that angry was just frightening. Had it always been like that?

Klavier was a little excited to see someone step out of the room. His excitement turned into disappointment when it turned out to be Apollo’s brother. That then turned into irritation. It was all just enough for Klavier to notice and ignore in favour of a friendly smile. He nodded in understanding and thanked Prosecutor Sahdmadhi for the information.
Meanwhile, in the room, Datz offered Apollo a big grin
“Nah! Don’t worry. Ya know me! I just can’t keep still. I keep tensin’ up and stressin’ my wounds. Not my first rodeo and yet the bull still wins!” He chuckled, holding back to avoid pain.
“I hope to get this resolved before your trip is over.” Was all he said before walking away to make arrangements.
“Well try. You don’t have to worry about not being in one place for too long.” He couldn’t have imagined it was easy. Going from being a rebel, constantly on the run, to having to stay cooped up in a hospital because he wasn’t at risk for being arrested. “Thank you for protecting Klavier, Datz. It... really means a lot.” He knew exactly why, too. “But please take care of yourself too? And let the nurses take care of you?”

While the attention was off of him, Datz allowed himself one manly tear, after which he pulled himself together. He wiped the tear away, sniffled in all the snot as quietly as possible, and lay back against the bed. His wounds were starting to hurt again anyway.
Now that he was fully collected again, he couldn’t mind being broken down to ‘living arrangements’ and ‘information’. Though, it wouldn’t hurt to remind of his physical and mental presence.
“Seems fair enough to me! To have one injured guy per one of you, kids. Yuty will be stuck with me and AJ’s with KlavGav. Though, maybe we could switch this time?” He joked and laughed, knowing full well why Apollo wanted Klavier to come with him. The laughter made him wince. Stupid pain.
“Most of the Loyalists are ex-guards. I know them. They may have a harder time firing at me as a result. Plus, I will have an easier time safely moving around on my own.” It seemed Nahyuta was stubborn on the matter. “Moreover, I’m sure Apollo’s friend would feel far more comfortable with someone he is more familiar with after such an experience.”  “...” Apollo deflated as the reality set in some more. At least he wouldn’t be all alone this time....
“I’m going to make some arrangements, Apollo. I’ll let you know when you should have your essentials packed up. Especially your inhalers!” “I’m not a child, butterfly boy.” He mumbled, “I’m going to stay here a bit longer, okay?” Especially if it was the last time he’d see Datz for a while.

legalbrats:
“H-.” The sound Datz made was hard to describe and the emotional aspect of it was a mystery to Datz himself.
Apollo (and Nahyuta by proxy) calling him their family… It was like everything he ever hoped for and feared at the same time. It was such a long time since anyone got to call him that.
Ever since they sent Apollo away, it all just went to shit, if Datz were honest. Everything was happening so fast and so slowly. Nahyuta, Amara, Rayfa, Dhurke… There was too much to worry about and he just kept going all those years, not caring or batting an eye. If he ever got an occasional ‘uncle’ up until now, he treated it like a nickname. It was just what people called him, because it was easy.
Now, when Apollo put it into words… 'Family’… It was like everything just came crashing down. Like everything suddenly became real. Datz felt tears pricking at the corners of his eyes. He really wished he had something to cover his face. He didn’t have his scarf or his googles. Even the blanket had been long pushed down the bed. So he had to go for his hands, like it didn’t give away everything. He didn’t know what was more stupid: a grown man crying from someone calling him family or a grown man covering his face like a scared child.
“Aw,” he managed to push out past the audible lump in his throat, “y-you care 'bout lil’ ol’ me…” He stopped before a sound close to a sob could escape him. He didn’t need more shame today. “H-holy Mother…”
Nahyuta shot Apollo a glare when he noticed Datz crying, because what did Apollo do?!. Apollo retaliated with his own glare, because he did absolutely nothing wrong.
“Of course we are, Datz!” Apollo reaffirmed, because although Datz could be annoying, had an irritating laugh, and was a nuisance, he was his family, he was the closest thing he had to an uncle. “You- you can’t just be a major part of our childhood and not expect us to see you as a family member!!”

“It’s nice of ya guys to visit. I’m real sorry ya had to. Ya prolly have a lot more important things to do than… whatever this is. I’m sure y'all are busy and need to go and stuff. Ya don’t need to stick ‘round if you don’t wanna.“
“Don’t be ridiculous!” Nahyuta snapped. “You are currently my priority!!” “Nahyuta’s right! You’re our family!! We’re worried about you!!”
