Question:
I am searching for something about a British marine captain called Sir Frederick Gabriel. After WW2 he was stationed in Northrhine Westphalia and lived in Bielefeld. He married a German woman. He also had three stars and was a close 'friend' of Queen Elizabeth II. He used to get a call on New Years Eve every year. He died in the 1990s of bone cancer.
During WW2 he commanded a ship which was damaged to a functionality of 40% in a battle with the Germans. He made it back to Britain and freed two prisoner camps.
There are no articles about him whatsoever. My family was friends with him after the war and my dad (who was 14/15 when he died) told us about him. I'd like to see if someone knows more.
Also he was awarded the highest medal in Britain (not sure its name) for his ship action.

I just read a fic where Jason goes back in time to before Bruce was born, and he kinda just stays there, so it’s both Alfred and Jason raising Bruce and the rest of the Batfamily, but I just think it would be so much funnier/cooler if Jason went back in time and he just becomes Alfred. Like, it’s a closed loop and Alfred was Jason and Jason was Alfred. Idk, I just think it was a fun concept.
The fic is We Realized We’re Both to Blame But What Could We Do? By appalyneinstitute1
#jason todd#alfred pennyworth#the British accent is fake#and Alfred knows how to use a gun#instead of Alfred being a WWII veteran he’s just a veteran of Bruce’s war on crime before it even started#dc comics#batman#batfam#red hood

There's a lot of opinions regarding this decisions - and I know a lot of genuine concern - but just wanted to share JJ's post, I imagine the OG boys involved at the 1st Games in London will be feeling a lot of emotion about it coming back to a home crowd, and just how far both they and the Games have come since then.
#invictus#i get the concerns#and there is no doubt the british media will be their obnoxious shitstain selves#buuuuuut the Birmingham bid was solid - it's basically the heart of veteran recovery here#and i'm sure lots will be beyond pleased it's “coming home”

I Vow to Thee, My Country
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love,
The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best,
The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
❤️🫡🇬🇧💙 Respect to all who served and continue to serve ❤️🫡🇬🇧💙

1814 portrait miniature of Lieutenant John Trumbull Ray, by artist Andrew Robertson. A Peninsular War veteran of the Napoleonic Wars in the British Army, he served under Lt. Gen. Sir Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, and was wounded first during the Siege of Badajoz and, later, at the Battle of Salamanca.

Today's veterans often come home to find that, although they're willing to die for their country, they're not sure how to live for it.
Sebastian Junger, Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging
Dedicated to my fellow veterans on this Armed Forces Week.
May you win the war you brought home with you.
