Welcoming St. Brigid into our home.
I don’t always do things by exact dates, but often take my cues from nature. With so much of my practice having Slavic roots I associate the coming holy days with Perun and thunder—so the thunderstorm last night told me it was time to start!
Step 1 — hanging a Brigid cross at our front door to invite her in.
Brigid crosses are also associated with thunder, and were said to protect from thunder and lightning.

Happy Imbolc! The days are growing lighter and we are half way to spring from winter now! Can't wait to see things growing again. It's a great time for growth, change, and rebirth. Now is the perfect time to start planning and to start make changes happen!
Made a Brigid cross and corn dolly to celebrate!

Hi everyone!!
In occasion of Imbolc a.k.a Candlemas and the arrival of firsts signs of springs, which is celebrated the 1st and 2nd February,
I’ve made a special little video with not only a literary suggestions based and inspired by the characteristic elements, like the mythical figure of Brigid and her power of Fire, Healing and Poetry, of Imbolc and Candlemas, but also a poem dedicated to this event:
From the depths of the earth,
a familiar warmth
wakes me from my slumber.
As I rise
from the ground,
I let
the sun’s rays
wrap me
in their splendor,
in a new guise
and a new life.
If you have some suggestion or do you like the poem,
you can write in comments section below,
or in my website.
Have a Nice Day!!

Happy St Brigid’s Day tomorrow! And happy Imbolc, too, each to those who celebrate. It seemed like January would never end but the light is actually returning.

geez Jules, how come Brigid let you have THREE crosses?
(one for a friend, one for a new flat, and one for Imbolc)

And here is a perfect example of my somewhat syncretic approach to my practice. I am descended from both Gaels and western Slavs and value both ancestries. My rituals incorporate both folk Christian and pagan beliefs.
Today kicks off what for me is basically a Holy Week, beginning with the Eve of St. Brigid’s Feast Day (important to the Gaelic ancestors) and ending on February 6th with the Feast Day of St. Dorothea (important to my Czech ancestors). In between the two dates are Hromnice/Candlemas, St. Blaise’s Day, and St. Agatha’s day.
Although I made the mullein torch as a thunder candle to honor my Czech ancestors which was an important part of their Hromnice/Candlemas celebration, I blessed it at the creek today on St. Brigid’s Eve to kick off the week.
@msgraveyarddirt it smelled divine with the wisteria incense!

Making Bríd crosses, 2024 💛
Posting this a bit late, obviously. Featuring a huge amount of reeds, burning of the old crosses, the waiting, the making, and a fresh one in place.
