I need more hetero ships where the guy doesn’t like the woman at first—including her appearance—and it’s not the usual ‘ugh, she’s so hot, why does she have to be such a bitch?’ situation. I mean genuine initial rejection. But over time, as he gets to know her and starts to admire her personality, he slowly begins to see her as beautiful too.

Because for me, that’s what real love is—based not on physical attraction, but on being drawn to the soul inside. And when you love that person’s soul, their body starts to look beautiful too. Because beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

So far, though, I can only think of one couple like that: Jaime and Brienne.

And when I say "hetero couples", it doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to see that dynamic in queer ships too. But I feel like this idea is so deeply ingrained in most straight ships, and in how the majority of people expect them to be portrayed—that a man should ALWAYS be physically and sexually attracted to a woman first and foremost. It’s acceptable if he can’t stand her personality, but the desire has to be there from the very first minute they meet.

I like to imagine Brienne and Jaime having some sort of argument, nothing serious, but just a situation where they couldn't disagree more on how to solve a problem, and then she's like "sorry, I hadn't seen it that way" and he looks at her frustrated and she answers confused "what??? you're right actually" and he replies "I KNOW I'M RIGHT but you're supposed to be adamant about it :( where is your stubbornness :( what does this mean for our relationship now :(" and she just rolls her eyes and leaves to get shit done because they have no fucking time for this

Thinking about the bear pit from Brienne’s POV and going a little crazy.

Like this guy who you never liked (the Kingslayer, the man who has twisted Knighthood and made it a joke) he saves you from being raped, loses his hand, and confesses to you the truth about why he killed the mad king.

And then he leaves.

He leaves you to go home and you’re stuck with the same horrible men who maimed this guy that has began to weasel his way into your psyche. But it’s fine because he’s gone now and you don’t have to deal with it.

And then he just freaking falls out of the sky and saves you from the bear. A knight saving the damsel. (And for once him the knight and you the damsel.) And when you ask him why he came all the way back just to save you he says, “I dreamed of you.”

Insane.

it’s crazy how grrm wrote the first woke beauty and the beast where a hot guy falls in love with an ugly woman and people will bend over backwards still to say brienne is actually attractive. like no she’s not and it’s not more feminist to say she is 👍

romance as a subplot is SOOOOO GOODDDDD because 98% of the time it's an intense slowburn that develops over several chapters. the story focuses on the plot or character development more but somehow it makes the romance SO MUCH BETTER!!! idk how to explain it it's just so good...like when an author's focus is more on characters and plot it gives you as the reader a deeper connection to the characters which makes the romantic/platonic aspect so much better

Do you ever think about how people judged and were cruel to Brienne her whole life and the most the people most important to Brienne (Renly, Catelyn, etc) did for her was let her pledge her service to them. And then Jaime comes along and looses a hand while trying to protect her and then jumps in a bear pit for her and then gives her a gift so priceless that the richest house in the country could not afford one, so priceless that I cannot even think of a modern comparison.

Jaime speaks so fucking much about Brienne's stubbornness that I gotta think that's his favorite thing about her, WHICH IS INSANE, like imagine someone loving you enough to enjoy you NEVER LISTENING to anyone else, including themselves. I could never do this, the only stubbornness I accept is my own, but that's so beautiful actually.
