I know Cir has really fucked up with this very big horrible no good lie, but I think we are overlooking one important fact.

I love him.

So even though this level of fuckery is pretty black and white . . .

I only see cool and warm coloring in this show!

So I'm proud of my boy for committing to the bit in his insane effort to merge those colors and make his fantasy into a reality.

I support queer rights, and the oh-so-very queer wrongs.

And oh boy is this soooooo wrong.

Sort of glad the secret is out because now I can make more book comparisons without spoiling people. I have barely wanted to mention the book at all for that reason.

So Cir confessed to a sleeping Phu. And he admitted that it had been dreams he had been having.

Also, we found out how he knows a lot about Phu because Wim became Phu’s friend and good senior. Cir was always there, too, but staying in the background.

I am not sure if they will bring it up in the series, but Phu is very absent-minded and always losing things that Cir would often return. He really was a bit of a guardian angel to Phu.

So, after some thinking and talking with @theflagscene about TBNW theories (and considering the things that MAME has romanticized in her other things 🙃), my actual "oh, I think this is probably what's happening" theory landed on:

Cir is actually just a big ol' stalker who made up an entire years-long relationship with Phu after learning who he was after the cup phone thing. It was a very intricate little life he imagined for them, as an escape from the trauma and abuse of his home life, and he was probably legitimately confused about reality when he first woke up in the hospital -- and that's where the "other universe" came from.

And I gotta say, I was not expecting to discover I was correct in episode 5, thought for sure that was gonna be an ep 10 or 11 reveal.

All things considered though, this is considerably less problematic than a lot of other MAME romance crimes 🤷🏼‍♀️

Let's talk about the fear and confusion on Cir's face when Phu snatches away from him and leaves.

I'm not ready. Judging by the warm tones in the room, the frosty light from the window, and CirPhu's neutral colored clothes it's a dream sequence. But what if this is real? What is Cir going to do? Phu is literally the only person in the whole world Cir cares about.
