Trinidad is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Las Animas County, Colorado, United States.[7] The population was 8,329 as of the 2020 census.[8] Trinidad lies 21 mi (34 km) north of Raton, New Mexico, and 195 mi (314 km) south of Denver.
Trinidad was dubbed the "Sex Change Capital of the World",[25] because a local doctor had an international reputation for performing sex reassignment surgery. In the 1960s, Stanley Biber, a veteran surgeon returning from Korea, decided to move to Trinidad because he had heard that the town needed a surgeon. In 1969 a local social worker asked him to perform the surgery for her, which he learned by consulting diagrams and a New York surgeon. Biber attained a reputation as a good surgeon at a time when very few doctors were performing sex-change operations. At his peak he averaged four sex-change operations a day, and the term "taking a trip to Trinidad" became a euphemism for some seeking the procedures he offered.
Drop City, a counterculture artists' community, was formed in 1965 on land about 4 mi (6.4 km) north of Trinidad. Founded by art students and filmmakers from the University of Kansas and University of Colorado at Boulder, Drop City became known as the first rural "hippie commune",[27] and received attention from Life and Time magazines, as well as from reporters around the world.[28]
In 2015 Trinidad started to experience a new boom due to the marijuana industry. The town raised $4.4 million in tax revenue from $44 million in annual marijuana sales, about 5.13% of the state's total sales.[29][30] In 2018 High Times called Trinidad "Weed Town, USA", noting that its 23 licensed retail marijuana dispensaries serving less than 10,000 people amounts to one dispensary per 352 people. "In one downtown block alone along Commercial Street, there were five dispensaries in a single building in town which the owner referred to as the "World's First Pot Mini Mall",[31] others call it the 'weed mall'.[32]

“Please don’t, Sula.”
He had tried every method of persuasion, and failing them, all that was left was to beg.
Sula frowned, trying to remember how far their conversations had gone. How much did he know? How much had been revealed?
“I’m begging you,” he said. “This isn’t like you.”
“Isn’t it?”
“Please leave it. Please, just let them be.”
She looked at Crispin curiously. “I remember saying the same thing to you once,” she reminded him. Was he echoing her words on purpose? The first time they met had been when Inquisition soldiers attacked her Circle, leaving her severely injured by fire. Accompanying the soldiers, he had healed her wounds but took her prisoner instead of letting her escape to find her fleeing friends.
He sighed. “Yes, I know, and I didn’t listen to you and I’m sorry. I’ve told you so many times that I’m sorry!”
“Are you tired of telling me you’re sorry?”
“Think of all those people!”
“What people?”
“All the innocent villagers. They’re harmless. Of course you’re angry. You have a right to be angry. And of course you have the ability. You have an affinity for water magic like no one else I know.”
That was pure flattery. But why? “There’s no need to exaggerate.”
“I’m not. The way you can read the ground and thaw a perfect path in the snow  – that’s not something I can do.”
“Plenty of other mages can do it just as well.”
“But a thaw this size would cause an avalanche. It would start small but would end up being massive. An avalanche that size would destroy the whole settlement, and all the crofts in the valley below. It would kill hundreds, maybe thousands of people. Then the ice in the river would break up early and crash through the river towns like boulders. All the snowmelt would pour into the river like waterfalls and cause flooding that would kill even more people.”
Still frowning warily, she replied, “That’s not my fault.”
“It’s not their fault that their village was home to the Inquisition.”
“Isn’t it?”
“And it’s not their fault that little Miles was killed by accident. Or Dòmhnall and Bel in the fight. Or that you were separated from all of your friends. Your Circle is your family, I know that.”
She was staring at his hair. She could see every strand of Crispin’s red curling hair, as sharp and fine as gleaming copper in the light of the dispensary’s little window. She was impressed that he had remembered their names. The guilt must have pressed them into his conscience.
“Are you listening? Sula! What about your newer friends? What about Bethan, and Elspeth, and Aldith –“
“Your friends,” she corrected him.
“Or Rennick, surely he’s your friend by now, even if he’s an Inquisition soldier?”
“Rennick will be leading me home. He can be useful to me.”
“Home? You can’t go back to Markham. Stay here! This can be your home.”
She scowled impatiently. “Not Markham. He’ll take me back to the fort where you attacked us, to help me find the rest of my Circle.”
“Rennick won’t be able to find them on his own. They will have scattered, and it’s too difficult and dangerous. Please, stay here. You have friends here.”
“No. I don’t.”
“Am I not your friend? I thought that we were becoming friends, Sula.”
“No you didn’t. I was your patient, your object of pity to soothe your conscience.”
Crispin persisted, but she appreciated the worry on his face. “But what about all the children? You’ve been tending them just like your garden, and now you’ll throw them away like weeds?”
“No. I said that the children can leave. And infants with their mothers or nurses.”
“But what about the ones like Pretty Peg with her widowed mother Lucy?”
She frowned at his use of her pet name for the girl. “What about her? She’ll be safe with me.”
“You can’t just steal a child. Don’t you think she’ll grieve at losing both parents?”
“I was stolen as a child, as were you!” she snapped, finally losing all patience with the other mage. “We both lived without parents in our Circles, and we turned out just fine! Or one of us did, tending and caring for grieving children, while another joined the Inquisition to kill them.”
“Is that what this is about?” he cried. “This is all just to get your revenge on me?”
She scoffed. “Don’t be so self-absorbed.”
“Then it’s true, yes, I’m the one to blame, not the villagers. I was the one who started the fire. It was me who started the battle where your friends fought and died, and you were injured.”
“Crispin. Toast. Do you think I don’t know that?”
“But I’m not the one who fired the arrows – “
“That doesn’t matter!”
“And I healed you – “
“What?”
“And I spoke on your behalf so you would be freed. Doesn’t that count for something?”
There was a ceramic water jug on the table. She picked it up and threw it at him with a scream. “You were the one who captured me! It doesn’t matter what you did after that!”
He had ducked out of the way, but one of the flying shards cut across his face. He put his hand up to the wound, but she was pleased that he did not bother to heal it. She wanted to see his blood.
“I know, Sula, and I’m sorry, but if we’d left you alone in the woods you would have died!”
“No I wouldn’t! We had our own healer, Meren! I could have found her and I would have been fine!”
“So don’t hurt the villagers; hurt me. Kill me. Do anything you like. I won’t stop you.”
He had been standing on the other side of the table, but now he stepped out so there was nothing between them. He held his arms loose at his sides and his palms open.
She narrowed her eyes, considering, but she knew that that was not what she wanted. Perhaps he knew it too. “Well, that would suit you just fine, wouldn’t it? All your suffering and guilt would be over. No more living with the consequences of your actions.” She strode to the window where she could command a better view of the snowy peak above.
“It was me alone who was responsible.”
“No. It wasn’t.”
“I started the fire! Just kill me.”
She shook her head. “You were acting on behalf of the Inquisition.”
“Then kill the commander!”
“Me, fight a Templar face to face? No thank you.”
“Then attack the Inquisition with your avalanche! But not the rest of the people.”
“The Inquisition is the people, and the people will pay.”
“But they’re innocent. They had nothing to do with it!”
“Didn’t they? They fed you and housed you. They washed your clothes and cooked your food and cleaned up after you. They gave their money to the Chantry, who gave it to you. They enjoyed the Inquisition’s protection. They enjoyed your healing.”
“But so did you.”
She grimaced. “And haven’t I suffered for it ever since?”
“I know you won’t hurt anyone. You wouldn’t dare!”
“Wouldn’t I?” she laughed. “Just watch me.”
“Sula, please, don’t do it.”
The fear in his eyes was making her feel strong, and the pleading in his voice and bloody cut across his cheek. “Why shouldn’t I? You haven’t come up with a single good reason.”
His face had softened. “Sula, this isn’t you.”
“How would you know?”
“I know what you’re like. You’re kind and compassionate. You care for people, the same way that you care for your garden. You nurture, you love. You never harm. You’re gentle. You don’t even kill insects or worms.”
She laughed again, mana streaming at her fingertips like water. It was almost like being meltingly drunk. “You don’t know me at all, Crispin Amell.”
“You don’t know yourself, Sula Ronoy. This isn’t really you. You aren’t even thinking like the real you. A despair demon has been fooling your mind.”
“You’re my despair demon, and the fool."
“Not anymore. I’m sorry, dear Sula. I won’t let you hurt anyone.” He raised his hand and her defenses were too slow.
She choked and felt herself immobilized, unable to breathe or move at all. With extreme effort and every shred of her strength, at last her body lurched forward and she was coughing and gasping in the cold, damp air. Everything had turned a hazy blue. The sky was dim, but there was a warm campfire burning on the ground close by her side.
“You all right, Miss Sula?” Rennick asked. “Didn’t mean to wake you. It’s early yet. I just got up to add more wood to the fire.”
She let out a shaky laugh. “Yes. Yes, I’m all right, just an exciting dream.” She rubbed her eyes and looked up at the pre-dawn sky above the mountain. “What’s the day to be?”
“A fair day, warm. I’d say the thaw is coming. That ice cliff we saw last time will be a waterfall.”
She smiled and curled back into her blankets. “I would love to see a waterfall.”

The first duty of any governing body is to safeguard its people against harm and, further, to guarantee the survival of a decent quality of life.
Will this lead to an improvement in our quality of life? I think not. The evidence points in rather the other direction.
I would ask that you take a far-sighted view and consider whether these businesses will create further burdens upon our law enforcement and ambulance services.
A cursory search reveals that these businesses are prime targets for robberies—some of which have taken place in:
Medford, Oregon
Corvallis, Oregon
Portland, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Kelso, Washington
Compton, California
Chula Vista, California
Los Angeles, California
Oakland, California
San Diego, California
Denver, Colorado
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Pueblo County, Colorado
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Clearwater, Florida
Palm Beach, Florida
Detroit, Michigan
Las Vegas, Nevada
Phoenix, Arizona
and, in our neighbor to the north, Canada, the same sort of violent robberies have taken place in Toronto, Vancouver, and Shannonville.
All businesses are not created equally—and, yes, some are greater targets for criminal and anti-social behaviors. How, then, would Peekskill be somehow, exempt, immune from this phenomena? Wishful thinking? Magic, perhaps?
Do we, as a community, wish to welcome these businesses, while, at the same time, embracing the very real risk they will attract these criminal and anti-social behaviors?
There are moments in our history when we must make a fundamental choice. This is one of those moments. Negative repercussions do not disappear because we refuse to look at them. Far too often we avert our eyes from the blemishes and blots in our community, in an effort to pretend they do not exist, and, therefore, do not affect our quality of life. It is indisputable that crime and violence are a threat to society and to an orderly way of life and that any softness on crime is a slap in the face to the law-abiding.
It flies in the face of common sense to welcome, with open arms, city-sanctioned recreational drug use within an area of six square miles. All the communities around us have opted out of welcoming these businesses to their neighborhoods. Could it be that they are endowed with the common sense to reject granting their tacit approval to peddling a substance with well-documented negative effects for both mind and body?
Why should we shoulder the burden of being the beacon for recreational drug use in Westchester County, with nary a thought for how this will impact upon our communities, and likely not for the better? In circumstances such as these, there is a real danger in keeping silent. Once the Pandora’s Box of social ills is opened there will be no containing or controlling them.
As it is, it is hazardous to be a pedestrian here. How much more dangerous will it be with drug-impaired drivers blowing through Stop signs and red lights? How many more injuries and fatalities must be endured, now in the name of quote-unquote “progress” and tax revenue?
Aside from practical considerations, such as parking, will the presence of dispensaries and lounges be an inducement to couples who wish to purchase a home and raise a family here? Entrepreneurs who want to invest in a non-drug-related business? What message will embracing these businesses send to neighboring communities?
Allowing these businesses within the six square miles of this city is woefully short-sighted. I would submit that the long-term social and human costs will far outweigh any tax revenue collected and would be but a paltry recompense for what we will suffer in terms of loss of quality of life.

I found myself inside of a small LA dispensary initially looking for pre rolls and walked out with my new holy grail drink—Keef Bubba Kush Root-beer. The Keef soda brand was established in 2010 in beautiful Boulder Colorado, has subsequently expanded into the Canadian market. I stumbled onto Keef’s website, which has limited information, however it does appear that this product was initially intended as an alternative to alcohol.
What initially drew me to Keef aside from it being a soda, was that is was strain specific(and a Bubba strain at that!), the packaging was not obnoxiously bright, and it has a decent amount of THC for a single serving item.
I was surprised by the lack of attention this product receives ; not only was the flavor great, it tasted just like a craft soda and did not have any cannabis flavor. When speaking to my budtender, I asked about feedback and popularity of the product, I was informed that several regulars stop in and buy as many cans as possible-as the company does not offer multipack options.
Overall, this cannabis soda was great and there were no tradeoffs. This soda tasted great, was appropriately carbonated, and gave a fast acting relaxing high. As a consumer, I believe the next natural step for Keef would be to offer multipacks and possible even venture into producing exotic soda flavors using exotic strains.

So far this week:
I’ve only pushed 5 things to do until next week
Last week I pushed 16 things
Pretty effective bullet journaling to start this year, keeps me on track some
Starting the week off strong on Mondays, fight through the BS and stay focused
Tomorrow we trip up to Boulder for Boutique Raw dog food, Korean place for our lunch, and Boutique cannabis dispensary
Now if only I can block out time to paint next week
And hopefully figure out a way to get more contractual obligations
Plus there’s all the hype about Wednesday, a day that I’ve been looking forward to for just about exactly 4 years.

LeLand HaMp-ton
Sacramento, CA
Senior Living, right foot injury (couldn’t keep up; transformation), sleeping pad; first arrest in Boulder. Around 34 days.
Upon return, I was immediately stalked by LeLand HaMp-ton. Entered 24 Hour Fitness at will, claimed not to have a membership. Claimed 24 owned by Mormons. Spent 4 months listening to him complain vulgarly about Becca (dyke, cunt, bitch, …) until he declared she claimed to be an ‘orphan’ before stuttering and starring at ground, apparently sheepish.
Becca: 4 drugs, HGH, viagra
As it wasn’t my business, I waited patiently 13 months before raising the question. She said ‘No, perhaps he thought . . .’ and performed same head and eye action as LeLand.
LeLand sent me numerous texts such as
Why are you always thinking of my dick?
Black rhino is instinct
Non-sequitur about a slice of cherry pie
LeLand sold weed out of the back of a dispensary
Leland assaulted me from behind, and then I was arrested for a FTA out of Arvada (he claimed prior knowledge of warrant just before I informed the front desk)
LeLand seemed to believe we were in competition for Her ❤️
Unknown number of assailants >3
Im so 😢 ACTUAL
I was supposed to be there
I didn’t follow SOP
Excuse is, I never expected to get lapped by you, consistently
Is she gone?
When?
