Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps

Boston, Massachusetts’ very own Boston Crusaders showing why their Colorguard is the best in the world (literally ranked). Boston’s show was “Goliath” - a contemporary rendition of the classic David vs Goliath story (with a bit of “Rocky” as well as Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” splashed into the mix). I still cannot believe how much incredible work goes into Colorguard (let alone the entire corps). THIS FOOTAGE IS TOTALLY ACTION-PACKED!👏It makes me appreciate everyone that crushes it in Colorguards all over the world. It also reminds me how funny & crazy Colorguard members are (Hahaha - Work-Hard-Play-Hard) - which, I believe, adds a lot of the spirit to each corps.

Boston has always been a really tough corps - I marched with a lot of Boston folks (some of the strongest people I’ve ever had the honor of marching alongside) and it seems the corps is stronger now than ever. One day this corps will be DCI Champions and I look forward to cheering them on. No matter the placement, Boston Crusaders are one of DCI’s most badass corps. 🙂💖🤙(P.S. Day 3 5/23/17

Texas Tuesday! We had a great day three today. We started off the day with oatmeal for breakfast and visual block. We went through our dance warmups and did marching fundamentals for a while. We did a lot of Charlie browns and focused on direction changes. After that, we went to the grass field and reviewed the follow the leader drill we learned yesterday. We also learned the last few sets of the opener! Lunch was mac n cheese with baked beans which was really good. Our next block was brass block and we had our first full warmup with our caption head Gino. He lead us through the technique packet and explained to us what he expected from us. After that, we had subs for a while before coming back as a full brass section to work on drill. We went chunk by chunk through the opener adding music to the drill we already learned. The hardest part was adding music to the drill where I'm just jazz running for thirty yards. Dinner we ate tacos but I just made mine a taco salad. The next block was music ensemble with the percussion. We worked on marching and playing the opener with them. We did a full run through of Part 1 marching and playing as a full music ensemble which was really cool!! After that we got into arcs and played through Part 4. I am so hyped for this season. This show is so amazing. My quads are starting to feel fatigued though. The next few days will be a little hard but it's going to be worth it!

2019 Drum Corps International Championships

One of the best seasons in DCI! Congratulations to EVERYONE who marched in drum corps this year - Thank you for keeping the activity alive & well. Blue Devils took their 19th title, and the captions went to various corps this year (which was refreshing to see). This has been one of the best Top 12 corps I have seen - definitely some of the most work ever put into the activity. I still cannot believe that The Bluecoats DID NOT WIN 1st place! It was the year of The Bluecoats in my own humble opinion - don’t get me wrong I love what BD has always brought, but man.... The Bluecoats!....It was their season. BD is like the Yankees - they’ve always got some of the best players, and they deliver every single year (which is not easy), but I don’t think BD was the underdog - Bluecoats were, and I still think they were the real champions, but again, that’s just one opinion - take it or leave it. Either way it does not take away from all of the awe-inspiring work each member has put in this year.

One of my favorite years in drum corps - every corps was AWESOME. Looking forward to 2020!

Day 1 05/21/17

First full day of spring training! We started off by having breakfast and a corps meeting. We had pancakes and sausage patties. They brought us doughnuts too, but I didn't want to eat them because I knew they would come back up if I did. We listened to our tour director Mary Mason, our assistant corps director Ron Lambert, and Chris Holland talk to us about what to expect for move ins and for the summer. We had our first block right after our meeting. We did two hours of dance with our choreographer and learned a lot of across the floor exercises. We then did a lot of marching fundamentals with visual staff. I didn't know any of the visual staff today except for our caption head. All these staff members came out of nowhere. Lunch was hot dogs, pasta salad and chips. They had tater tots but they ran out by the time I got there. Our second block today was spent just learning drill. We learned the first 30 sets of our show today. We're already going to be putting music with the drill tomorrow. This show is gonna be amazing. We have our dotbooks to work on and will be learning more sets tomorrow. They want us to have the show done in around two weeks. Dinner was stir fry and I had a doughnut from breakfast since they still had a bunch. Our last block was pretty chill. We had our first sectional with our tech Eric. He led us through warmups and we rehearsed Part 1. We have a long way to go as a section but we're a strong group of players. We can go really far this summer. We kept hearing the baritones in the distance in their subs and they sounded like trains. We had individual practice time after subs and worked on Conquest and Giant. We then rehearsed all our across the floor exercises that we learned this morning. I'm tired but not exhausted which is good. That probably won't last long but it'll be worth it. I'm hyped for this season!
