Before he passed out, I kept him alive. Walked miles in flip flops to follow him and talked him off every ledge he climbed up on. Once he wore himself out, bring him to bed. Take off his clothes; clean and bandage any wound that couldn’t wait until morning; think of a story that wouldn’t embarrass him too badly; redress him. Throw his clothes in the washer and clean up his vomit or blood or any other mess. Crawl into bed next to him dirt tired. Fall asleep. Wake up. Do it again.

Sometimes, to help him sleep, I would share my last cigarette with him, in bed. I would hold it to his lips and listen to him cough on the smoke and pat his back. I think it made him feel better, like the vodka after dinner. I would mutter to him in Russian, encouraging him that he did well, that it was okay, that he was safe and it was time to sleep.

“We’ll talk in the morning, friend.” The smoke from my cigarette reminded me of fog. “Just sleep it off. We’ll talk then, da ?”

Potter had good weeks and bad weeks. Good week? It happened only once, maybe twice. He’d cry, talk about his mom, try to hurt himself, but he fell asleep quickly. Bad week? Happened every night. He would be pissed, and breaking things, and screaming, and trying to die.

But most of the time it was medium. Like the McDonalds.

See, Potter was drinking way before I came over, drinking all night before; so thin it looked like he was dying. I was going to go get him food. Girls at school always complained about too many calories in McDonald's meals and shakes, saying that calories made you fat. More calories would make Potter less skinny, I figure, so I take him to the McDonalds.

But he’s too drunk to eat. He doesn’t want a shake or fries. He wants to lie in the kid pit, spitting drunk, slurring his words, ranting and raving. He’s telling me about his dad, and too many names to count. Andy and Tom and Pippa and barbers and a kitten.

I am keeping my eye on the screwy faced lady behind the counter. She is watching us with hard eyes, and she won’t stop looking at Potter. He doesn’t look good. He’s gesturing wildly, lying on his stomach, mouthing something about earrings into the red and yellow play mats.

The lady from behind the counter calls the cops. We hide in the Wal-mart, nearly an hour in the empty school supply aisles we’d stolen from weeks before. When the bus drops us off near his house, Potter pukes the bite of my fries. He almost hits my shoes.

I have to almost carry him home- all he wants to do is sleep. “I’m tired, Boris,” he says, against my neck. I’m sweaty from carrying him in the heat. “Boris,” he smells like barf and dog piss and alcohol. “Boris…” He can’t hold his head up. When I can see it, his eyes are unfocused and bloodshot.

“‘m sorry,” he slurs as we stagger in the door. His arms are looped around my neck, red cheek pressed against my collarbone. Where his skin touches mine, it feels like I’m burning. He feels like he is on fire.

I drag him to his room and crawl onto his bed on my hands and knees and stretch him out. This leg up, this arm tucked under his head, roll him over. “Recovery position” the health teacher said. “Stops choking if a victim is vomiting.” Stupid class, but helpful for Potter when he is drunk. Only helpful thing I ever learned in American school.

After Potter throws up, he always says sorry, and I always ignore him. I don’t know who they’re for, I don’t think he knows either.

boris sat at a lunch table with theo, violently stabbing his food with a fork, as he stared at you and your new boyfriend laughing together.

you had a huge grin plastered on your face, as you spoke with your boyfriend. it was a grin you never had on your face when you were with boris.

the boy was feeling mixxed emotions. he was sad, angry, and most importantly, jealous. he was jealous of how good your new boyfriend treated you. jealous because he knew he couldn't treat you that well. you and boris didn't end it on a bad note. you two were still friends.

theo sighed, as he watched the curly haired boy stab his food. theo didn't even know why you two broke up. he didn't even ask any of you. the only thing he knew was that boris came to theo's house at 3 in the morning, looking as if he got zero sleep and spent the whole night sobbing. his under eyes were dark, his eyes were red, and puffy.

just like they were at the current moment.

boris wanted to take his eyes off you so badly. because every single time he looks in your eyes, he gets lost. it's like he's in a maze, and it tortures him, 'cause there's just a shit ton of memories with you and him flooding around that maze. but that's why he couldn't take his eyes off you. so even if he TRIED to take his eyes off you, he'd miserably fail.

he watched as your boyfriend leaned in for a kiss. he saw you giggle, and kiss your boyfriend.

he felt a pang in his heart. he banged his hands against the lunch table, and walked off to the school parking lot. probably to get high and cry over a girl who he still loved, yet she was in love with another.

Boris laid still in his bed, too tired to move even the slightest. He had lost himself, more than he already had, in drugs and alcohol. He missed the love of his love. The one person that made him feel worth something.

"Boris, you cannot just lay there forever." Theo sighed as he picked up garbage that was scattered throughout the room. "Why did they not just tell me it bothered them." Boris groaned and shoved his face into a pillow.

"You're not exactly the easiest to talk to, you know." Boris groaned again, knowing Theo was right. "I just want them here with me." He mumbled as he grabbed a pillow and cuddled it as he would cuddle you.

"I don't understand why you don't call them? It's been months!" "Because!" Boris exaggerated as if that was a good reason. He let go of the pillow and sprawled across his back.

The doorbell startled them both, seeing as no one ever visited him besides Theo and his dad would just use his keys. "Who's that?" Theo asked concerned. Boris shook his head, indicating he didn't know who it was.

Theo placed the garbage back on the floor and made his way toward the door. He only opened the door halfway, cautiously, only to be met with you. "Hi, Theo." You smiled as he opened the door fully. "Hi." He smiled back. "Is Boris in?" You asked to which Theo nodded pointing to Boris' room.

You smiled gratefully at Theo, and walked to Boris' room, knocking lightly before walking in. Boris stared at you, thinking the drugs he had taken earlier were just now kicking in. "Hi." You whispered, though he still stayed silent. You awkwardly shuffle to his bed and sit next to his sprawled out body.

"I was going to call but I figured I should see you in person." You laughed as you put your hand in his hair. "Y/N." He whispered, just now realizing you were in fact real. "Boris." You whispered back.

He quickly sat up on the bed and consumed you in a hug. "Мій прекрасний ангел." He said quietly into your ear as he stroked your hair. "I missed you very much, Y/N." He continued, not daring to let go of you. "I missed you too." You smiled as you inhaled his scent that felt weirdly like home.

"Please... do not leave me again." His voice started to shake. "I won't." You promised as you choked on a sob. "I won't." You repeated pulling him closer to you than before. Boris repeatedly pressed small, loving kisses to your temple.

"I love you." He whispered, still afraid to let go. "Ти досконалий." You smiled though you didn't know what it meant, but you didn't care. You couldn't care. Not when you were in the arms of the one person you loved the most.

a/n: she seems a little too much like boris for my liking but idk i’ll see how i feel if i write for him again. when i write on my computer i force myself to use capital letters, but i use lowercase when i write on my phone so that’s why this looks a little different!

If there was anything Theo hated even more than going to school in Vegas, there was the bus ride to and from the school in Vegas that he hated even more. The kids were loud, always smelled, and could never keep anything to themselves. Never having taken the bus to or from school, he wasn’t necessarily equipped with the proper social skills (or ranking in this new school) to feel safe and comfortable.

This is why Theo picked a seat that had nobody sitting in it, and put his bag on the ground.

He ran his hands through his hair, sighed, and took a glance out the window. That didn’t help his nerves— seeing absolutely nothing in the distance does something to a person, he supposed.

When Theo picked a seat that had nobody sitting in it, he didn’t expect somebody to move his bag to sit next to him. But that’s exactly what you did: a quick “can I sit here?” (it wasn’t much of a question at all) before dumping his bag on the floor next to yours and plopping down next to him. He decided not to say anything.

“Say, has anybody told you that you look a little bit like Harry Potter—” Theo whipped his head around. In what world did he look anything like Harry Fucking Potter?— “y’know, because you have the nerd glasses?” Theo sighed, scowled, and looked away.

“You seem like a real joy,” he remarked sarcastically. “Do you just sit wherever you want to?”

“Yeah, pretty much. Nobody cares,” you smiled warmly, pulling a thermos out of your bag, and handing one to him. “Want one?”

Theo eyed it sharply, but took it from your hands. Maybe it was the way that your smile seemed almost too cocky for someone living in the fucking pits of Vegas, or maybe it was the way your leg shook with energy that threw him off — but he didn’t dare think about it another second.His fingers brushed yours: dry and cracked from the desert heat and wind —while his looked like he was fresh from New York with a few calluses but nothing too severe. “What the fuck is in that thing?”

“Does it matter?” You had a grin on your face —one with mischief and one that screamed trouble, but Theo only gulped before watching you take a fast swig of yours and shake your head like it burnt, fire in your eyes.

He followed soon after. It definitely wasn’t coffee.

Maybe Vegas would be a little more exciting than he thought.

Fanfic idea: Theo’s mom didn’t die in the explosion. Instead, she left to start a new life. We spend so much time with Theo where he tells us how great she was, but what if she wasn’t as picture perfect as he made her out to be? Later on, after the events of Amsterdam, he runs into her on accident somewhere in New York. Of course, he turns to Boris to understand what’s happening; Why would she leave him? Does Theo want her back in his life? And, of course, what would she think of his life now? The shop, Hobie, the drugs and alcohol, the cigarettes? Most importantly: What would she think of Boris, and does Theo even care what she has to say?
