Newsie Names (As Determined By Me)

Jack "Cowboy" Kelly: Francis Malcolm Sullivan (canon)

Racetrack: Ed Higgins (historically accurate, I put him as having an Italian mother and Irish father, both Catholic because Race crosses himself during the nun scene)

Crutchy: Elijah Morris (surname is historically accurate, friendly reminder that Crutch Morris was Jewish and so is Crutchy)

Boots: Benjamin Arbus (surname looks like it's widely accepted fanon, not sure about the first name)

Kid Blink: Louis Baletti (historically accurate, definitely has an Italian father at the least)

Mush: Nicholas Meyers (surname is historically accurate and I'm pretty sure the real Mush was named Nick)

Bumlets: Damian Vasquez/Damián Vásquez (Puerto Rican name, name anglicized after immigration)

Skittery: Roman Kučera (Czech name, @jackcowboyhero came up with this and I just love it so much)

Snoddy: Calvin Angier (also from @jackcowboyhero)

Specs: Leopold Bauer (German name)

Dutchy: Cas Hendriksen (Dutch name, Dutchy was commonly used for Dutch and German immigrants)

Snitch: John Whitfield

Itey: Elio Olivieri (Italian name, Itey was commonly used for Italian immigrants)

Swifty the Rake: Wesley Liu (half white and half Chinese like his actor Kevin Stea)

Pie-Eater: Michael Reeves

Jake the Oyster: Jacob Heaton

Snipeshooter: Gabriel Evans

Flipper: Charles "Charlie" Daley (I've officially chosen Flipper as his newsie nickname because it's more popular and less ridiculous than Crazy Legs, Bumlets still calls him Charlie though)

Tumbler: Andy (another @jackcowboyhero name that I've adopted, he uses Kučera when necessary but doesn't remember his actual last name)

Ten-Pin: Simon Butler

I prefer to be as historically accurate as possible and since most newsies in real life were immigrants or the children of immigrants, I took that into account when naming a lot of the boys. Anglicizing names was common practice for immigrants to better assimilate and since Bumlets's family had to deal with racism on top of regular immigrant prejudice, his father dropped the accents to make things easier for them. Bumlets will probably add them back when he starts working as something other than a newsie (assistant superintendent at Duane Street is my headcanon). I sort of imprinted on @jackcowboyhero when I first joined the fandom so the names they picked for some of the boys (Skittery, Snoddy, and Tumbler) are very near and dear to my heart. I also tried to take into account the actor's race/ethnicity as best as I could (Dominic Lucero was Latino, Kevin Stea is biracial, and I think Marty Belafsky is Jewish but the real-life Crutch Morris definitely was) and used information about real-life newsie nicknames to name others like Dutchy and Itey. If anyone has their own headcanons, I'd love to hear them!

Thinking about Boots and his time traveling, how he sticks a bit close to Spot or Jack from seeing different versions of them. His time line that hes in, they are way better than the other ones but Boots can't get the image of Spot laying dead on the ground because he didn't have no marbles.

Boots always makes sure to give Spot marbles even a few extras, just in case.

Sarah teaching Boots and Snipeshooter and also Smalls probably to sew and the three of them making her a patchwork quilt with ripped clothes and odds and ends they manage to get their hands on. Just the pride and joy on their faces as they'd wrapped it in newspaper and tied it with some ribbon Kloppman managed to acquire and gifting it to her as a thank you :)

My thoughts on every Newsie (92sies edition)

Part 1

Here are my thoughts on the Newsies from 92sies!

Jack Kelly: Totally cool guy. Resident leader of the Lower Manhattan newsies. Love him to death.

David Jacobs: TBH, I was kind of neutral about him when I first saw Newsies, but I started to like him eventually! And I have a lot in common with him!

Racetrack Higgins

This guy right here, is one of my favorite newsies. I really liked him from the first time I saw this movie. He always makes the funniest jokes. And Max plays the role of Racetrack extremely well!

Les Jacobs

I know I post about him a lot, but I love him so much! He’s so cute, and he one of my favorite characters! And did I mention that he’s such a sweetheart? I just wanna squeeze his cheeks!

Mush Meyers

I love him so much! That is all!

Kid Blink

He’s a great guy. I really like seeing his interactions with Mush. It’s pretty clear that they’re best friends.

Boots Arbus

I love Boots so much. He’s like the straight man of the group, even though he’s one of the younger newsies.

Spot Conlon

When I first watched Newsies last year, I wasn’t sure I would like this guy. But then I warmed up to him!

Crunchy Morris

I really love this guy so much! He may be sweet, but he’s also sassy!

Skitters

The resident misanthrope of the Lower Manhattan newsies. Still like him, tho.

Favorite Bumlets and The Littles Moments

(or the ones I can think of off the top of my head at least)

Shortly after Bumlets, Dutchy, and Specs come out of the bathroom stalls in "Carrying the Banner," he throws an arm around Boots

His hand on Flipper's shoulder during the beginning of "Seize the Day (Chorale)"

At the end of the "Seize the Day (Chorale)," he pushes Flipper out of the path of the horse carriage

After "King of New York," he and Les share an adorable moment where they're both smiling really big and I love it

When the bulls raid the rally, he tries to push Boots to safety

During the "Carrying the Banner Finale" he wraps his arm around Snipeshooter and when they walk up the ramp to the window, he pulls on his suspenders and it's such a big brother move

During the final group hug, he's practically right up against Sarah, which allows him to pat Les on the back when Dave shoves him into Jack and Sarah

Well, we started the strike, but uh- we can't do it alone. So we've been talking to other newsies all around the city. Yeah. So they told me. But what did they tell you?

Boots slowly opened his eyes. He could hear suffling around him, yet it sounded unfamiliar. When his eyes did open, he could see lots of eyes on him. But they were new?

He didn't see Dutchy or Skittery. No Blink or Mush by his side. Not even Bumlets big smiles he always gave.

Worst of all, he didn't see Jack. Cowboy.

"Are ya' alright?" Someone asked.

Boots looked over, and this one had glasses. He had to bite his tongue. If it was Specs, then why didn't he recognize him.

"I'm gonna assume you's alright."

Boots looked over again and found someone with a crutch. Although his hair was dirty blonde. And straight. But he was Crutchy?

"Mush get Jack will ya." Sepcs asked as he pushed his glasses up.

"What if I don't wanna?"

"You're closer to the penthouse anyways."

That wasn't Mush. Mush would have always gotten Jack or did anything for anyone. Where was he even. This wasn't his home. Sure, it was a timeline. But this wasn't like any of the others. Also, what penthouse. Mr. Kloppmann never said anything about it before.

Jack should be fine. Boots hoped so at least. He had to be. He was cowboy. Cowboy never chang-

Jack walked up to him. No red bandana in sight. Blue clothes that framed his broad shoulders. And no hat. Lasso even.

"You're not Cowboy."
