October 3rd 1712 a warrant for the arrest of Rob Roy MacGregor by the orders of James Graham, Duke of Montrose.
On a day that’s kinda quiet I dug up this wee story on one of Scotland's most talked about characters.
It wasn’t the first warrant he had issued for his arrest, and might not even have been the last, I will just cover this wee bit of his story though...........
In 1711, Rob Roy borrowed money from the Duke of Montrose. The deal was that Rob would purchase some cattle, fatten them up and sell them in England. Both men would share the profits, but it’s said that Rob’s associate disappeared with the money. Despite trying all he could, Rob was unable to get the money back.
A warrant for Rob’s arrest was issued by the furious Duke of Montrose. Rob tried to clear his name, but he was declared an outlaw.
MacGregor then carried out a feud with Graham for some years. Montrose was responsible for corruption charges, earning himself unpopularity through the famous Jacobite.
There are several differing versions of Rob Roy’s life and the feud with Montrose, what is known is he was forced Rob off his land and his farm is said to have been torched, one tale also says his wife was raped by Montrose’s factor, Graham of Killearn, I’m not sure how much truth is in that version.
What is known is Rob mounted a campaign of thieving and lawlessness against Montrose. He would go around the tenants collecting their rent, saying it was in the name of Montrose. So when Killearn the factor turned up for the rent, it had been already paid Rob Roy.
Rob continued his exploits against Montrose until 1722, when Argyll brought about a reconciliation. Later, however, Rob was arrested and confined in Newgate Prison, London; he was pardoned in 1727 when about to be transported to Barbados.
Rob Roy became a legend in his own life time when author Daniel Defoe published a fictionalised account of his life, The Highland Rogue, in 1723. His resulting popularity may have influenced the decision to pardon him, although oor Roland Obrien has his own suspicions as regards to that!
His fame increased when Sir Walter Scott published his novel Rob Roy in 1817, and he has continued to be a popular figure on stage and screen ever since.
The pics include a letter of “Obligation” by Rob Roy to deliver to James, Duke of Montrose, 60 Highland cows and a bull at ‘fourteen pounds Scotts per piece with ane bull to the bargane.’ and a small purse of deerskin with a rectangular brass clasp incised with dot-and-circle ornament, said to have been owned by MacGregor, both items are held by The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

I call her Brain Freeze Fair N. Hight.
Tumblr media
She's basically what would happen if Fair started falling more to the anti-cog propaganda, turning into a frozen killing machine. I didn't intend for this to be as snowgrave as it turned out but oh well
Tumblr media
Bootlegger would NOT be happy about such an event.

March Prompts Day 26 Bootlegger
Hidden away
Sneaked in
A crime
Or
A way to take care
Of
Those God has given us
Coal mining
Bootlegging
With eight children to support
My Kentucky pa’pa
Did whatever he had too.

On March 7th 1671 Robert “Rob” Roy MacGregor was baptised, his actual birthdate is lost in the midst of time.
The name “Rob Roy” derives from the Gaelic Raibert Ruadh, or Red Robert because of his red hair. Married to Helen Mary MacGregor (a cousin from Comer) on January 1, 1693 at Corryarklet, between Loch Katrine and Loch Lomond, they had at least five sons.
As the son of a senior member of the clan, Rob Roy was well educated in reading, writing, and in the crafts of fighting. His reputation as an unmatched swordsman and recognisable figure due to his red hair and pale complexion soon spread through Scotland and beyond.
Whether he was a notorious cattle thief, or a Highland hero, depends on which account of Rob Roy’s life you prefer. The writer Sir Walter Scott, for example, much exaggerated his fame, painting him as a defender of the Highland way of life.
His life as an outlaw started when he was unable to repay money that he had borrowed from the Duke of Montrose to fund his growing cattle trade. The Duke seized his lands and property, and Rob Roy fled with his debt unpaid. From this time onwards, he became a thorn in the Duke’s side, raiding his lands and that of his neighbours. While he profited from this, the story says that he never stole from the poor.
The Duke finally captured Rob Roy, but he made a famous escape with the aid of a friend in the Duke’s employ at the ford in the river near Balquhidder.
The MacGregors, including Rob Roy, continued to support the deposed King James VII against William of Orange and fought at the Battle of Killiecrankie on July 27, 1689. Later, Rob Roy led his clan in support of the Jacobites in 1715 and escaped prison once again having been charged with treason.
In 1723, Daniel Defoe was in Scotland as an English Government spy and wrote an embellished account of Rob’s adventures entitled Highland Rogue, further enhancing his reputation. While still an outlaw, the last 10 years of his life were relatively peaceful.
He died in his home after a short illness on December 28, 1734 and was buried in the small churchyard in Balquhidder on New Year’s Day, 1734.

Bootlegger and Dynamite Are My Go-Tos
"Being well dressed hasn't much to do with having good clothes. It's a question of good balance and good common sense.' ~Oscar de la Renta
Written By: Lauren Long Date Published: October 4, 2024 “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” ~Yves Saint Laurent We all have our go-to brands for clothing, right? The clothes we wear reflect who we are, and who we want to be. I look around whenever I’m out and about and think “A person’s clothes say a lot about them.”   Just the other day, for example, I was at Starbucks picking up a Pumpkin…

Now you know! Well.. just the one on the right. On the left is what would happen if one were to separate Dr. Dinky Robonerd's remains from the actual skelecog.

Will be interesting to see his role in setting up the Lackadaisy gang considering it seems he pretty much co-founded it before seemingly retiring from his criminal life a fairly wealthy man.
We will simply have to try and be patient and wait for those mini-episodes

worst way to start my new year, thanks. i have a lot of things to say about these companies but i'm tired and just keeping it focused to the pin side of things for this one. do not ever buy pins from these companies, literally ALL of them are stolen from small artists like me. if you want to buy enamel pins, check out etsy, and artist's personal websites and shops! (though even Etsy has some bootleg pins that ship straight from china, so tread carefully…)
Every pin I've designed is, thus far, EXCLUSIVE to my etsy. if you find it anywhere else, it's been ripped off! and once these stupid bootlegs pop up, it's basically a never ending game of whack-a-mole trying to get them all taken down...
