Though some kind of military force dolvile is fucked. Either by their own goverment or something else. It doesn't really matter because the town doesn't actually know what's happened. No one knows why they're targeted but in an instant the world is changed.

Suspiciously there's no human military. It's all turrets and disembodied attacks-

But all that matters is that you need to survive!! And luckily for you everyone wants you in their faction. So you have options.

Whitney. Probobly has the biggest faction. He demands absoloutle loyalty. Weather your a scout or part of the inner circle. Whitney doesn't hesitate to throw people off the roof if they don't comply. He's not the most friendly leader. But he's a strong one. And even though people in his group fail to get a lot of food and water- everyone is protected. Your safe from other students in whitneys faction.

Robin is probobly the second biggest (but there's a lot of in and out) everyone is welcome here and Robin has control of the cafeteria and the water main. He was one of the only people who grabbed keys when the chaos started. This means that everyone in his faction has easy acsess to water. And Robin isn't afraid of sharing. He even trades water for books and other forms of entertainment from sydneys faction. Robin also isn't opposed to sharing with whitney. But whitney keeps threatening to take over the water supply. And Robin thinks that's good for no one. Still whitney sends scouts to "steal" water from Robin. But Robin is still happy to share. His main priority is making sure people stay calm. He firmly believes that they'll be rescued. But they need to be alive for that to happen.

Sydneys cult faction is the smallest. And sydney is rarely seen. People in his faction are relatively healthy. Though no one knows why. When the members leave the library for supplies they're mute. Students who used to be lively and happy people now refusing to talk. Memberß also seem to be marked up. Writing on their arms and faces. Joining sydneys group is rumored to be harsh. And some members are never seen again.

Kylar is a Rouge. But he's happy to accommodate. Rouges are allowed to do what they want. Though they're only welcome in Robin's territory and the unclaimed parts of the school. Rouges will sometimes get paid in food by Whitney to venture into more dangerous areas of the school and report back. Or sometimes even Sydney's territory. Though usually Rouges are seen as pretty expendable.

Bring on the Blue Mountains! (Week 9)

After returning from Tasmania, it was time for me to recharge again before my family came to town. This meant some more local traveling, as well as catching up on sleep! On Tuesday, once my photography class ended in Paddington, I took to the streets to find a new route to explore which led me to Rushcutters Bay Park along the water just a bit east of the Opera House. The park and nearby pier reemphasized my love for the Sydney coast.

More than the incredible beaches and vast ocean, the coast is full of the greenest parks and forests, houses climbing up rolling hills, and people. People exercising, playing with their dogs, picnicking like there’s no tomorrow, or just enjoying the beautiful weather. Even at night, the cityscape illuminates the water and makes Darling Harbour the perfect place to take a seat and catch up with friends.

Along Coogee Bay Rd, the central road of Coogee beach, I finally got to try a Vietnamese food stop which always has the longest lines in the area and runs out of food before the sun sets. The chicken banh mi I got instantly became my favorite local meal and I got it again only a few days later.

My week ended with a hostel group trip to the Blue Mountains just about 2 hours from Sydney. Known for their vast canyons and incredibly diverse greenery, the Blue Mountains are a popular site for both locals and tourists as they’re full of hikes and unmatched sites. In fact, the most popular hike which we took is called the Grand Canyon trail which takes you to Australia’s own Grand Canyon! I can’t say it compares to the one in Arizona, but it sure makes a mouth drop. The several mile hike winds down into the valley where you’re immersed in a rocky rainforest before taking you uphill to a much drier walk full of completely different flora. The hike exemplified Australia’s endlessly diverse landscape as well as the easy access to nature from the city.

^ The Grand Canyon! It sure is greener than the one in Arizona, but can you also spot the blueish mist? They are called the Blue Mountains, after all!

The trip to the Blue Mountains did expose a harsh reality of day trips - the logistics of getting there and back. Tired of taking public transport everywhere, my friends wanted to try Uber Carshare which lets you borrow someone’s car for hours/days at a time without going through the hassle of renting. The problem was that the car we booked was a 40-minute transport away anyway, and didn’t cut down the travel time compared to the train at all. And when it came to returning the car, we spent 20 minutes trying to parallel park it into the exact same spot we got it from despite the fact that the car simply did not fit into the spot. We then realized that the Uber app had a different drop-off location specified which prompted us to try again at this new location, but to no avail. Between the one-way roads and cones in our path, we couldn’t even reach the parking spot and had to park as close as we could manage. Then, as Shaunak went to take pictures of the car to submit to the app as proof of good condition, his phone died! At that point, we suggested the others go home and the two of us set off to find a USB-C charger. Adamant that we didn’t need to go home or find a store where we could buy one (there were none in the vicinity), I led us to a nearby student accommodation apartment building. I was confident that if we asked enough people, someone would help. As luck would have it, the very first person we talked to who worked in the lobby happened to have a USB-C charger right there with him! He was generous enough to let us use it and hangout in the lobby while we waited. 

The logistics of planning trips, between finding housing and flights, coordinating activities, and figuring out how we’ll get around is not an easy task for a bunch of procrastinators, but with each trip and excursion we get just a little bit better. The fact that we haven’t quite planned a week-long trip to New Zealand for 14 people in just two weeks is a little worrisome, but a reality for many students studying abroad. Cape Breton University food bank cannot keep up with demand: student union president

The student union president at Cape Breton University said food insecurity has become a concern for many students and the on-campus food bank cannot keep up with demand.

Damanpreet Singh said the student-run food bank at the university in Sydney, N.S., gives out 50 packages of food daily, but as many as 100 students a day are reaching out to the food bank for help each weekday.

"We are really struggling with big line-ups for the food bank," Singh said in an interview.

"We need more food packages, and in order to make more packages, we need more staff, more space and more money."

Singh said the food bank has recently set up a system for students to sign up for a food package on a first-come-first-serve basis online. This means students can book an appointment to pick up the food instead of waiting in long lines, but the demand still far exceeds what they can offer.

The student union president said he believes that the need for food is likely tied to the rising cost of living in Sydney and the scarcity of available work.

Singh said that since he moved to Sydney in May 2021, the typical rent he and his friends pay has jumped from $350 per month for a room to between $500 and $800 monthly. There are also fewer units available, he added.

The housing crunch coincides with Cape Breton University's recent population growth. The university has acknowledged the rapid hike in student numbers and said in December it would reduce the number of new student spaces for some of its popular programs.

The increase in student population is due in large part to international student recruitment, and the university has been criticized for accepting more students that it can adequately house.

An October 2021 report from the Association of Atlantic Universities found that this fall, nearly 4,000 international students were enrolled at Cape Breton University out of about 5,900 total students. That is up from about 2,400 international students in 2021, when the school had about 4,200 students. In 2017, the university had fewer than 900 international students out of about 2,600 total students.

International students at Cape Breton University pay between $18,915 and about $19,580 a year in tuition, which is about twice as much as the $9,810 that Canadian residents pay.

A spokesperson for the university said there are currently 7,300 registered students at the school in total, with 1,500 set to graduate in May.

Singh said that in order to deal with the rising cost of housing and food, many students try to work part-time or full-time jobs alongside their studies, which is proving difficult.

"But because Sydney is a small town, we don't have many jobs here and right now students are struggling to find both accommodations and jobs," he said.

Singh would like to see the province and the university offer more assistance to student-run support services such as the food bank.

"We're using some of our union budget for the food bank, and recently we got some donations from organizations," he said. "But we are hopeful for any donations (from) any organization or government because the demand is really high here."

A spokesperson for Nova Scotia's Department of Community Services said it hasn't received a funding request from Cape Breton University's food bank, but that it has recently put money toward food banks in the province.

Jill Elsworth, a spokesperson for the university, said in an email that it supports its employees in donating to the student union food bank.

She added that some students are not familiar with the purpose of food banks in Canada and said the school is working on information sessions to assist students with cooking on a budget and using a food bank if necessary.

Singh said it's possible that some students are confused about the purpose of the food bank, but that the "majority of them are really in need."

Percival Pickens finally visits the Babylonium. Now that he’s a town council member and not a lowly deputy, he needs better accommodation. He asks Veronica for one of the casino’s Champagne Suites. He tries to win her over by mentioning his crooner abilities and the fact that he can afford three years’ worth of rent.

Percival is apparently a seasoned performer, with appearances at Caesar’s Palace, the Sydney Opera House and Moulin Rouge, which are all interchangeable in the writers’ minds. Australian Friends, are you amused?

Veronica, one of Riverdale’s many many resident crooners, is less interested in Percival’s musical versatility and more impressed by the cash.

Now that Abigail is exorcised, Cinderbritta can finally go home. Goodbye, tiny sapphic footballer, it was nice to hear you talk.

It is yet another town meeting and Percival Pickens has taken Pop’s out of the town sign. It’s an aesthetic decision, he says. Tabitha is furious, although the change from ‘Pep!’ to ‘Pop’s!’ has been but very recent.

Remember how the town council was against Babylonium? No? No worries. Neither do the writers. Truly, there’s nothing more consistent than Alice’s inconsistency.

Jughead informs Betty and Archie that if they have an emotional tether, they can fight Percival’s mind control. Betty mistakes emotional tether for emotional burden and suggests Polly and her mom as her own.

It is obviously impossible to share this information with the rest of the town, lest Percival Pickens’s storyline comes to a premature end. Instead, they’re going to remind the people of the town of their core values: i.e. Archie’s abs. Because high school drop-out Archie Andrews is “the authentic American folk hero”.

“Not everyone sees me in that light” says Archie, who -surprisingly enough- remembers that EVERYONE had outvoted him during the last town meeting.

Brace yourselves, because it’s take-a-shot-every-time-Fred-is-mentioned-Sunday. Here goes shot #1.

Apparently, Samm Pansky knows someone in the Guinness Records. Jughead, who just wants an excuse to reconnect with his ex literary agent, proposes a series of feats that will get Archie in the Guinness Book.

Cheryl Blossom has commented on her own hotness so many times, she manifested it into a literal superpower.

Night nurse Darius is (re)hired to make sure she doesn’t go boom in her sleep. She doesn’t. Darius, however, is another story.

Having experienced RHS both as a student and as a teacher, Jughead comes to the conclusion that what will fill the youths of Riverdale with a personal and civic pride, instill in them values and remind them to think for themselves is certainly not Wetherbee’s joke of a school but El Royale.

Archie’s two passions are -verbatim- : physical fitness and serving and inspiring the community. Riverdale is top tier comedy.

In a surprise move, Archie’s prowess is NOT tested in the football field.

There are a lot of invincible men but Archie is “the most invincible” of them all. Archie didn’t pass his SAT, so he does not know how absolute adjectives work. He could have written “ the mostest invincible” though, so, I’m counting this as a win.

Veronica-curse-your-broad-shoulders-Lodge, who doesn’t know about Archie’s superpower, is greatly impressed by his fitness feats.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, Archie is now the world’s toughest man. Fred, says Archie, used to keep a copy of that book in the john. Which is exactly where this storyline belongs.

Hey! That was a line about Fred! Bottoms up!

Next stop: Archie will fight KO Kelly.

Jughead has commissioned a statue grand scale Archie fanart piece from his New York artist friends. Nobody fanboys like Jughead Jones. Nobody.

Business entrepreneur Tabitha Tate (who has left a six figure CEO job in Chicago) has not checked her finances before Percival mentions it. Both Toni and Tabitha seem surprised by the idea that not only liquor but also -gasp!- food is served at a casino. They visit Babylonium to further investigate.

Just like everyone else in Riverdale, Percival’s favourite pastime is … singing. There is a direct connection between town meetings and musical numbers. When there’s not one, there’s bound to be the other.

Dr Curdle Jr, coroner extraordinaire, diagnoses dead Darius with a case of SPC i.e. Spontaneous Human Combustion.

Another mention of Fred, another shot. Them are the rules.

Toni and Tabitha decide to level up in order to compete with Veronica’s casino. “I’m your private dancer, a dancer for money” they sing in a revamped Serpent Dance female emancipation side story.

Veronica of La Bonne Nuit fame is furious. Only she dances for money in this town, dammit!

Betty doesn’t see Cheryl’s aura, so I assume she’s not a threat to her. She could have told her that, instead she douses her in ice baths.

She then reaches out to Special FBI Agent Wolf Bulder. No, I jest. Her name is Agent Drake. She suggests Cheryl has pyrokinetic abilities. With a straight a face. 1 riverdollar says Agent Drake has been in Riverdale before.

Fangs, who was in jail for keeping illegal guns in the Fogarty-Topaz residence, is anxious that Toni’s pole dancing will be bad for Baby Anthony’s custody battle.  

Percival overplays his hand with Veronica and suggests she firebombs Pop’s. Veronica throws him out of her office but not out of the Casino.

For narrative purposes (there’s still 10+ mins before this episode is done) Percival decides not to try to manipulate Veronica’s thoughts but rather KO Kelly’s. He makes him walk into traffic. A fitting punishment for anyone stupid enough to come back to Riverdale.

Archie will fight Percival instead. They arrange this over the phone. Archie’s on his i-phone, Percival on his early 20th-century candlestick telephone. Oh Riverdale! (affectionate)

It’s that take-a-shot-for-Fred time again.

Agent Betty Cooper learns the basic physics of pyrokinesis from F.B.I. Agent Drake. Girl, didn’t you go to Yale or something?

Veronica learns that boyfriend and co-owner of Babylonium Reggie has taken 3 slot machines to Mantle Motors. They break up, which means he is no longer co-owner of the casino, because this is how business partnerships work in Riverdale.

Percival sees Toni and Tabitha at the casino and wants to know what they were doing there. Veronica, who doesn’t own Hiram 2.0 Percival an explanation, tells him everything: she, Toni and Tabitha will partner up.

Pop Tate is not ok with liquor being served at the Diner but has no problem with the diner having a booth at the casino. Pop Tate has had an alien encounter while tripping on mushrooms back in the 70s; we don’t judge him.

Bottoms Up! For Fred, guys!

With the two contenders named Percival and Archibald, I was hoping for some jousting or, at least, sword fighting, but no. It’s another boxing match. Bo-ring.

Fred mini-montage: double the scenes, double the tequila.

Jiminy Cricket Jones tries to keep Archie focused but fails. After all, all Jughead knows about boxing is that one-move ko.  

Percival uses palladium in his gloves. Which still doesn’t explain how he wins. Archie might not be invulnerable but isn’t he supposed to be an ex professional fighter and a trained soldier?

Ah … the epic highs and lows of adult boxing ...

The whole town celebrates. I am the whole town.

Percival learned Archie’s secret weakness, because he manipulated Betty’s mind. Polly and Alice were not Betty’s tether after all …

Next episode is about Tabitha Tate. How do I know? The writers explicitly said so.
