Farm store landing at DFW
Bonton will open travel essentials shop at refurbished Terminal A in 2026
Bonton Farms is bringing a travel essentials store and market to Terminal A at DFW International Airport.
Tumblr media
Non-profit sustainable urban farm Bonton Farms was founded in Southwest Dallas to help provide the local community with nutritious food.
Now, Bonton Farms will provide hyperlocal food to global travelers thanks to a collaboration between DFW Airport and Marshall Retail Group, a specialty retailer in the airport and casino-resort marketplace.
The new store will offer Bonton Farms products such as homemade jams, jellies, sauces and other fresh produce.
It will also have a selection of products from local small businesses.
Among the vendors at the new Bonton Farms outpost are three Fort Worth-based companies: Sons Coffee, a company that offers freshly brewed coffee;
Lettuce Cook, with gourmet grab-and-go salads and sandwiches; and Pearl Honey Spreads, a woman- and minority-owned business specializing in honey-based treats.
The store will be located at Gate A17 and will be open after the completion of the Terminal A expansion, which is scheduled for 2026.
“This opportunity is transformative not only for our organization but also for the Bonton community,” said Bonton Farms president Gabrielle Madison. “For many residents, this may be their first connection with the airport — whether through new employment opportunities or even, one day, becoming concession vendors themselves.”

This inner-city farm is altering lives in a rare method. Bonton, a neighborhood in south Dallas, Texas, might be the final place you'd suppose to start out a farm.

Whole Cities Foundation Awards 60 Community First Grants to Help Grow Local Food Systems
Whole Cities Foundation, a nonprofit that works alongside community-based organizations to improve neighborhood health by broadening access to fresh food and nutrition education, announced today that 60 Community First Grants will be awarded this winter to nonprofit organizations in the U.S., and for the first time, in Canada.
The Community First Grant Program is designed to support Whole Foods Market team members engaged with nonprofits in their areas. Throughout the duration of the grant year, these team members foster relationships with their grant partners through volunteer opportunities and additional support for the organizations’ goals.
Each grant partner will receive $5,000 to support projects that create long-term healthy food access solutions for a total investment of $315,000. Projects from this year’s grant partners include:
16 community gardens
14 urban farms
9 agricultural skills development programs
5 mobile markets
5 healthy cooking programs
6 SNAP and WIC incentive programs
2 healthy, affordable restaurants
2 farmers markets
1 pop-up market
Nonprofits receiving grant funds are located across the U.S., with the first Canadian award going to support the Public Health Association of BC in Vancouver, B.C., which will use the funding for its Can You Dig It program that transforms communities by creating sustainable and inclusive neighborhoods through community gardens. Learn about the 60 nonprofit grantees here.
“At the heart of the Community First Grant Program is a deep respect for the powerful work that already exists in local food systems and a desire to amplify these community-led efforts,” said Nona Evans, executive director of Whole Cities Foundation. “So our partnerships start with our Community First Principles — listening to neighborhood challenges, recognizing what already works well and expanding on the solutions set in place by the community.”
Since launching the Community First Grant Program in 2016, Whole Cities Foundation has awarded 186 grants in 100 cities investing $940,000. To date, more than 140 team members from 70 Whole Foods Market stores and 11 regional offices have participated.
Steffany Villalobos, local forager with the Whole Foods Market Southwest Regional Office, helped secure a grant for Bonton Farms, an urban farm in southeast Dallas where she has been volunteering for more than a year.
“For me, the most exciting part of the Community First Grant is being able to bring to life Whole Foods Market’s core value of caring for our communities and the environment,” said Villalobos. “The grant allows us to take our commitment outside the four walls of the store, connect with our local community, be part of the conversation and support solutions that improve access to fresh, heathy food.”
Whole Foods Market team members in the U.S. and Canada can nominate eligible nonprofit organizations in their cities for a $5,000 grant through the Community First Grant Program each spring. If a team member’s nomination is selected, the community partner will be asked to complete a grant application.
For more information on Whole Cities Foundation’s Community First Grant Program, including current and past grant partners, visit wholecitiesfoundation.org/grants/community-first-1.

Grocery Company, Kroger, makes large donation to urban farm in South Dallas
Bonton Farms receives $70,000 donation to help continue its food production mission.
Demond Fernandez WfAA Sept 19, 2919
Excerpt:
DALLAS — An urban farm that’s dedicated to addressing food access challenges and food insecurities is getting help with its mission from a new community partner.
Bonton Farms is receiving a donation from Kroger. The grocery company and its associates presented the team from Bonton Farms with a check for $70,000 during a special volunteer event at the farm’s South Dallas operation.
“This has been a day in the making,” said April Martin, Public Affairs Director of Kroger – Dallas Division.
Partnerships and people are powerful. A large group of Kroger associates spent time volunteering at the farm as part of the grocer’s ‘Zero Hunger – Zero Waste’ initiative.
Bonton Farms’ Founder and CEO Daron Babcock explained, “Food is a really important part of being a human being. Without it, we suffer. Our lives becomes something smaller.”
The donation from Kroger will allow Bonton Farms in its efforts to expand food production and services. Martin says the company has been intentional in expanding its reach in Southern Dallas.

Bonton Farms Has Big Plans for 12-Acre Site in Lake Highlands
During the pandemic, I have routinely stopped by Bonton Farms in South Dallas to pick up my weekly groceries. And during those visits, I often run into the farm’s founder, Daron Babcock; his wife Theda, who runs the financial side of things; and Danny George, the farm’s manager. But I was long overdue for a […]
