If "Subspace Rhapsody" took place in S1 I have some headcanons
A- I feel like it would have been funny to do just covers of songs instead of just making up new ones- cuz then the crew would be scrambling to decipher wtf Una and Chris meant by singing a duet to 'Whenever Wherever' by Shakira (Like are they friends? Should we call Batel??)
I feel like La'an would have sung in something other than English, because god damn it if she's going to sing her feelings- she's going to at least sing in a language no one understands! (Aka Chinese opera or Bollywood lol )
M'Bena and Pike should have had a buddy duet to something stupid
Hemmer would have had a cute duet with Uhura to something sweet, maybe a sad/dramatic solo alone
Chapel would be singing 'What the hell' by Avril Lavigne
Erica needs to do 'my way' by Queen Key, she/they don't have a choice
Spock should have 2 songs or more, each in a different language (one of which is Vulcan) and one of them has to be some horrific pop song that he will deny that he has ever listened to
every time the song comes on, the crew has no idea who's singing and why, so they just look around frantically until someone breaks out singing-
Oh, and they should have control of their facial expressions. If Una's going to put on a show, she's going to be rolling her eyes and smirking the whole time.

hey! so I had this dream and you're the only person I know who can turn this into a beautiful fic. An Indian style wedding with Loki. Maybe include the avengers as guest. Also him being confused with the traditions. And.... clad in an emerald green sherwani. The reader is in a green wedding dress too! ALSO I LOVE YOUR FICS! YOU ARE AN AMAZING! 😭💚
First of all thank you so much dear for enjoying my writing and for the compliment 💚❤️I combined these two requests ❤️💚 I wasn't able to add everything because it would be 10k long fic if I tried to sum up an indian wedding 😂
Loki x Indian Reader wedding
You were getting married to the love of your life. Your wedding with loki was all set to take place tomorrow, when you asked for a traditional Indian style wedding as that's what your parents wanted, and you couldn't deny them, they were already being so gracious as they 'permitted' you to marry a white alien man. Their words not yours and loki was so damn confused, he already dreaded meeting your strict stereotypical Indian parents but when he finally did, he charmed his way in pretty quickly.
Who wouldn't adore that sunshiny ray of light, your parents were no different. You couldn't wait to be his wifey and you couldn't wait to call him your husband.
"Omgg jeeju and his friends are here" you heard your cousin and you blushed, it was your haldi ceremony today and since loki didn't have any idea about any of the hindu traditions , you decided that it would be best if you both did all the rituals together. You were dressed up in a yellow saree with your flower jewellery, all ready to get glowed up "I can't believe you're marrying an avenger" your cousin neetu said excitedly "I can't believe she's marrying a prince" your best friend chimed in. They all giggled and blushed as loki entered the venue, he had Clint, tony, Bruce, steve and Bucky with him, his best friends and ofcourse his brother Thor they all dressed up in white kurta pyjamas
As he sat down next to you, you couldn't stop staring at how angelic he looked, those green eyes and raven curly hair contrasted perfectly with his white kurta "Hey beautiful" he whispered and before you could say anything he was hoarded by your friends and cousins as they clicked pictures and chatted his ear off with randomness. His friends were just so confused but amused, your aunties dragged them to the dance floor and made them move on bollywood songs. Tony stark can dance that's for sure.
"So I'm gonna get that all over me?" He giggled as he stared at the bowl of yellow turmeric paste "Yes it's supposed to make you all glowy and brings good luck" you pecked his cheeks quickly, and then looked around hoping nobody saw that, he blushed as you did. You looked so beautiful and he wanted to kiss you but he couldn't. Your parents would frown upon it.
"Then I should have you all over me because you make me all glowy my darling love" you blushed as you heard him and looked down "Love that look on your face princess, can't wait for our wedding night, I read it's a ritual in itself? What do you guys call it? 'Suhaag raat right?" You glared at him as he flirted shamelessly with you "shussshhh you'll be thrown out if they hear you" you warned him and he giggled in response. He's your everything.
By the end of the ceremony you both were covered in yellow all around, your cousins had so much fun getting their hands all over him, he looked so cute like that and you couldn't have been happier. In the evening when Sangeet ceremony started, your family had a whole choreography to perform which was expected from a typical Indian family but what you didn't expect was Loki to do a dance performance on "Saajan ji ghar aaye" with his friends, who suggested him that? You had no idea but he danced perfectly and somehow he was able to lip sync too, he dragged you into his performance and ofcourse being a Desi girl you didn't need a choreography to match steps with your soon to be husband.
Next day when your wedding finally arrived you felt so nervous, you wanted everything perfect, even though you always thought your wedding lehenga would be bright red you decided to choose green lehenga, since loki was wearing green sherwani you wanted to surprise him and match with him, once you got completely dolled up, you heard your cousin yelling that the groom was here and your heart raced in your chest, you're going to get married and you're going to become his forever.
When your cousins left to see the groom you heard a knock on the door and you thought must be someone from your family but it was loki. You can't see him, it's bad luck, it must be a superstition but you didn't want to jinx it, you walked towards the door and you stood right next to it, with your back on the door "baby I can't see you, it's bad luck" you told him and he chuckled "I know I read about that, just wanted to hear from you princess, you must be nervous" truth to be told, he was way out of his element and he was nervous too, all those people out there, not leaving him to breathe, grabbing him for pictures or making him do another one of the countless rituals, he was scared and lost without you, and he knew hearing from you would help him, he was doing this all for you. He would do anything for you
"I was baby, but I'm all better now, thank you for coming, are you okay sweet love? Just few more hours and we will be all done I promise" you whispered softly and he smiled, that's all he needed to hear "I know princess, I just needed to hear from you darling, I love you so much" he mumbled softly "I love you" you responded, you wanted to hug him but you couldn't, just few more hours, you consoled him and yourself most of all, then he was gone, groom can't go missing for long afterall.
He thought you were adorning red for the night but when he saw you in that green lehenga he couldn't stop himself from tearing up, as you entered the stage for jaimala he smiled as he looked at you, you're the prettiest woman he had ever laid his eyes on, not just your outer beauty but you had the prettiest heart too, you accepted him without judgement, you loved him unconditionally and he wanted to give you every little thing you'd ever want from him. You couldn't stop staring at him either, he was undoubtedly the most beautiful man to ever exist and he was about to be all yours forever.
When the wedding rituals finally started he was so lost, with every mantra and every chant he got more and more confused, but he did everything he was asked to do by the pandit (priest), he did enjoy the saat pheras though, giggled his way through it, his smile and laugh so infectious, everyone just adored him in the moment, he was so relieved when after 5 hours the wedding rituals finally got completed, then came the worst part 'the vidai' or the going away ceremony, now you have always lived away from your parents but there's something about getting married to someone that makes you feel like you're leaving your parent's house forever and the thought made you cry.
When he finally took you away and got a moment alone with you he hugged you so tightly and consoled you "I'm so in love with you princess, I'm always going to, I'd never allow you to feel sad or lonely ever again, even if you do I won't let it last for long" he whispered and you hugged him tightly "I love you too loki and this is the best day of my life, long and exhausting but definitely the best day, I promise to be yours and be by your side forever my sweet sweet boy" you giggled and he kissed you softly as he heard you.
"Wifey" he smiled as he picked you up
"Hubby" yeah you are the luckiest woman ever.
"Now time for that Suhaag raat"
He winked mischievously and you were in for a long night or a day.

MUSIC TASTES AND GUILTY PLEASURE SONGS bros + undateables
Lucifer
Jazz, classical music, if he has to choose a modern artist then aurora or Videoclub, he vibes with French music a lot of the time. He also likes Piano and violin covers of more popular songs but cannot stand the originals. Satan and belphie are aware of this and take full advantage, much to his chagrin.
Guilty pleasure: mamamoo, hwasa specifically radiates Lucifer energy and I can 100 percent see him vibing with it. Levi swears he once saw him at a concert but would never say so, he gets a death glare from Lucifer every time he brings up mamamoo in conversation so he knows he saw correct but also he *doesn't want to die*.
Mammon
90s hip hop jams, queen, classic rock, overall has pretty good taste in music, adores abba
Guilty pleasure: he cries at the shrek soundtrack and he doesn't know why. Just straight up starts bawling to all star. Also romantic songs get him crying. He just can't. He has a playlist named 'MC' that's full of romantic songs he wants to dance with them to, but any time any of the songs plays he starts crying.
Levi
K-pop and jpop, he stans Loona. Listens to a mix of male, female and mixed groups and artists. surprisingly enough he goes to the most concerts out of all of the brothers, even beating Asmo out (since he tends to go clubbing instead). It's the only time he voluntarilly goes into such an enviroment. When he goes to a concert he doesn't mess about, VIP tickets and gets the best merch. He loves anime themes, also see him liking anything 'niche' so is a bit of a hipster and a massive music snob. Likes things like horrible histories songs and asap science elements song where he can study without studying if ya get me. Deffo can name every Pokémon. Pfft you like the original poke rap? Catch this boi listening to BDG's better pokerap and reciting every word, also rocks out to Richie Branson.
Guilty pleasure: Ariana Grande but hates that he likes it cos it's 'normie music'
Satan
Studio Ghibli soundtracks, heavy metal, baby queen, MCR, AKMU, Triple H, Gang of Youths, Paramore, good taste but very varied so his playlists are always jumping between genres.
Guilty pleasure: the front bottoms, esp. the song 'father' for obvious reasons, also likes Videoclub but knows that Lucifer also likes it so adamantly denies he likes it. Catch him alone in the library jamming out to 'En nuit' tho I dare ya
Asmo
Techno and clubbing music, as well as anything on a girls night playlist, you kno he knows all the words and has definitely sung every song while crying at 3am on a karaoke machine, also the Orion experience and anything normally played at a pride parade or rave
Guilty pleasure: babymetal. He knows it's not the vibe he gives off but he finds them adorable, deffo attends every concert but will deny it. Levi saw him at one once and it was the Spiderman meme. He swore him to secrecy.
Beel
Happy upbeat music he can work out to, modern pop works but really anything with a rhythm. Likes African drums because of this, can play the djembe drum. Probably attends a Zumba class and makes all the fellow demons drool, from his abs and the fact hes eating a 30 course meal while he does it
Guilty pleasure: Shakira? I'm gonna say Shakira. Beels hips don't lie but catch him dancing and he'll get embarrased.
Belphie
Green Day and anything anti-authority, MCR, bmth, he is vibing to emo bops and you know it.
Guilty pleasure: country esp. dolly parton cos he's a cow boi.
Diavolo
He loves country music and because of this he plays it on repeat in the castle and Lucifer cannot stand it. If only belphie knew his guilty pleasure songs would drive Lucifer insane, he would play them full blast every day just to piss him off. Yeah maybe it's good he doesn't know.
Guilty pleasure: Explicit rap music. He know it's not good for his royal image to swear but man, he loves it so much. Got a sweet spot for Nicki Minaj but only Barbs knows about it.
Barbatos
I can really see him liking Bollywood dance and music for some reason? I feel like his favourite instrument is the sitar. He definitely watches Bollywood dramas in his offtime and gets very invested. Will do the same with Kdramas, Jdramas, Mdramas, a secret drama hoe. Only a dramatic bish would !!!SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 20!!! ((get the bros watch MC die only to turn around and be like 'well actually' he loves drama he's just *subtle* about it))!!!SPOILERS END!!!
Guilty pleasure: Nicky Minaj, who do you think introduced Dia to her huh? Also weak to kidzbop but don't you dare call him out on it. It's one of the reasons he and Luke get along so well. They vibe to kidzbop while they bake.
Simeon
Hymns I don't know what to tell ya, but also MUSICALS, Boi is a massive musical nerd and knows all the words. Luke once make the mistake of bringing up Hamilton and had to sit through him singing the entire soundtrack. It was good, don't get me wrong, but he was trying to do his human history class hw..
Guilty pleasure: lil naz x and Beyonce, but he blushed bright red the WHOLE TIME and prays for forgiveness after. Has definitely danced drunk to single ladies tho. Probably with mammon or Asmo.
Solomon
SALSA MUSIC this man can DANCE and dance he shall. Bachata all the way. But also shamelessly loves Nickelback. I'm sorry. I know. I can see him liking fall out boy, and purposely playing songs that reference angels and demons to get a rise out of them. He is the one that showed Simeon Lil Naz X.
Guilty pleasure: the spice girls. When Asmo found out they both had a mini concert in his room.
Luke
Kidzbop and hymns, but mostly kidzbop. He also likes studio Ghibli music, he listens to it while cooking, but he hates that satan likes it because *demon prejudice*.
Guilty pleasure: Avril Lavigne, more specifically girlfriend and skaterboi. Also likes Ariana Grande and Cardi B but has only heard their kidzbop versions and not the originals.

Nah zayn hasn’t been putting out proper music that showcases his vocals. We know he can hit notes. I still to this day replay the acoustic version to hear the hightnotee for dusk till dawn at the end. He’s covered Bollywood songs that really show his range. You can say you like shawn more but to deny zayn’s vocal??
I get that he has anxiety but at least record a live performance once in a while

The Differences Between Musical Genres
Overview of all songs within the style Digital, Including associated genres. Half heady avant-garde improv, half properly-thought-about Molotov cocktail, all methods disorienting, Throbbing Gristle's debut steamrolled a new path for underground noiseniks by eschewing many of the formal rules of rock music — drums, guitars, melody and, on Aspect B, pulse completely —going instantly for the primal appeal of distortion. "Industrial Music for Industrial Folks" learn the tagline for the band's own Industrial Information, spawning a genre fueled on grinding, mechanical terror and offered influence for everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Aphex Twin. Built on disturbing samples, disturbing digital textures, and disturbing reside recordings, Second Annual Report employed the LP as a medium of moveable transgression. In a yr through which pop music—from Robyn to Ariana Grande—was making a robust assertion, singer Héloïse Letissier, who performs as Christine and the Queens, arrived from France to continue the conversation about gender and identification on Chris. On Doesn't Matter"—over daring poppy '80s drums and glowing synth—Héloïse bravely addresses the pressures of the masculine gaze, suicidal ideas, and the nature of relationships and faith. It's a heavy and essential conversation to be having—especially in a song crammed with as much buoyant French enjoyable as this one. I don't understand how individuals in India have the guts to even name Bollywood a music business. I mean, critically? A expertise-much less bunch saying "Your eyes, your face, our love, our marriage" again and again in each track. And a few random-ass "rapper" who occasionally chips in to "rap", which all the time consists of "Get on the floor, yeah, groove it, yeah, yo, yo, transfer it". 99.9% of the songs are like that. Plus, no production quality at all. Every thing borrowed from different worldwide music. Bollywood is just industrial marketing noise which is bought off as music to a billion individuals with no style and no clue as to what actual music is.
Although he's been useless for over one hundred ten years allready, essentially the most celebrated person from the city of Bergen, nonetheless, is EDVARD GRIEG. As classical music has been canonised for much longer than different musical genres and has earned its place even as an academic topic its unlikely for this artist to fall into obscurity through the many generations from the height of his profession. His most recognisable compositions are in all probability the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt, whereas the ‘Within the Hall of the Mountain King' is included. Nation, people, pop, rock Linda has covered it all in her forty-plus-year profession, however no matter which style you associate her with, her success on the nation music charts is undeniable. Linda has 14 platinum albums to her name, including 4 that climbed to the highest of Billboard's Country chart, in addition to 13 Grammys and two ACMs. And who could neglect when she teamed up with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris to create the tremendous-est of feminine tremendous groups and release 1987's Trio. The iTunes Store has lots of methods that can assist you discover music you will love. High charts. New music recommendations based mostly in your past purchases. Trending Searches to help you slim down which artist, album, or genre is hot.3 And Siri works with Shazam, the amazing app that identifies the tune that's enjoying.4 As soon as you hear a tune you want, just ask Siri What tune is this?" to find out the artist, track, album, and extra. You can purchase the music immediately from the iTunes Retailer. Or Siri can add it to your Want Checklist so you can buy it later. For many of us, our taste in music is an integral a part of our identification - so much so that, to a sure extent, what we hearken to is who we're. The songs of our youth, heard a thousand instances, fill our headspace with stray lyrics and infectious grooves, creating a filter for the way in which we see, hear, and perceive the world from then on out. And while some have a much less aware, elanateal229.hatenadiary.com more organic strategy, others actively draw boundaries between the music they settle for and the music they deny - and by extension, the people related to these musical cultures, as effectively.
Metallic is a great style of music. It is incredibly numerous, from heavy steel, to hurry and thrash metallic, and even to pirate steel, just like the band Alestorm, and there are even humor steel bands. Metal bands sing about demise, ache, sometimes love, life, peoples personalities, it tells stories, and many different issues. The music itself is diverse. There are songs that begin off slow and http://www.audio-transcoder.com progress to actually quick solos, there are metal songs which are fast all throughout the music, and there are gradual songs. All in all, metal is a great style of music resulting from its great range.
Though each house and techno music were merchandise of city African-American culture, these kinds would get pleasure from a lot of their recognition by the late Eighties within the U.K. and Germany. In the U.K., parties could be held in large open fields out in the countryside. The brand new drug ecstasy turned a popular ingredient to the house and techno events of this era, along with different psychedelic drugs like LSD. These events acquired the title raves and shortly turned famous all through the world for their wild, Dionysian, utopian vibes.
In answering your title question, I agree with the other reply right here (from Tetsujin): genres exist because classification Is What We Do and our brains our wired for using heuristics (see, for example, the writings of Herbert Simon ). That's, labeling something by genre provides a sense of its innate structure and the "rules" by which it performs - or, perhaps extra apparently, the principles it performs round with. (This is why (I personally believe) there is vital argument around whether or not artists fit into sure genres. It seems to be significantly endemic to some steel sub-genres, where there's even a time period for 'trueness to the style': kvlt) Extra merely - or extra individually - the label of genre is among the shortcuts that helps me resolve whether or not or not I may prefer it.

Artist Spotlight, Episode I: Anik Khan I don’t know what it’s like for other people, but sometimes when I get into a new band or artist, I don’t just listen to one album, I try to dive into a bunch of their projects, so I can get a full idea of who this band or artist is. In the past, I’ve reviewed each album from said band or artist and that can take awhile, especially if I don’t have a lot to say, or there’s a lot of history with them, so I thought I’d bypass that a bit by starting a series where I just talk about an artist or band I like, especially if I’ve been listening to multiple projects of theirs. Instead of reviewing each one, I’ll just talk about them as a whole, and talk about why I enjoy the band or artist in question, ultimately recommending them. These aren’t going to be standard reviews, so don’t expect the same ideas and tone; it’s more or less a casual and conversational look into an artist I’ve been listening to, or one that’s very deserving of your time, but I don’t want to review all of their work at once. I could easily do that, but I’d rather not. These also won’t be extremely comprehensive pieces, either, I don’t plan on diving deep into these artists, or really exploring their history, but I just want to talk about them as a whole, as well as the albums I heard, briefly talking about them as well.
For the first episode of this series, I wanted to talk about a very underrated artist that I found pretty recently -- Anik Khan. He’s a criminally underrated rapper and singer from Queens, New York, and I bring that fact up, because he wants you to know that. For good reason, too -- Born in 1989, Khan is an immigrant, and his family came to the US from Bangladesh in 1993, just when he was five years old. Most of his life, he’s been here, but he’s only just recently gotten his citizenship, and that’s a big part of his most recent projects, including the double EP, Approved and Denied. Being a Bengali immigrant shapes a lot of his music, and one thing I really love about Khan’s music is that he brings his South Asian culture into it. He covered a Bollywood song very recently on a single that came out in May, but he features a lot of language, imagery, and instrumentation that you’d find in his culture. On his debut LP, 2017′s Kites, songs like “Habibi,” “Mango Nectar,” “Cleopatra,” “Tangerine,” “Sunlight,” and many more feature a South Asian flair to them, and it’s really cool. I absolutely love it. I love hearing music from other parts of the world, because here in the US, we’re not exposed to it. On the EP, Approved, where he talks about finally getting his visa, he moves more into a reggaeton, Caribbean, and Latin sound, which is really cool as well. I’ve watched some interviews of him where he’s talked about being influenced by music all over the world, as well as being friends with a diverse group of people while growing up in New York and that’s shaped his music as he’s gotten older. Aside from his sound, which I do think is very unique, especially for a rapper in today’s day and age, his lyrics are also very unique, at least in spots. He does write a lot about the generic money, women, and fame kinds of things, but it comes from a more genuine place, where he is an immigrant, and he’s always wanted to be successful, especially when his parents sacrificed everything for him to be here. In other spots, however, he talks about that, and what it’s like being an immigrant. The song “Columbus” from this debut album, 2017′s Kites, is all about taking the myth of Christopher Columbus and deconstructing it, ultimately talking about how America was built on the backs of people of color, and how people are mislead to believe that he “discovered” America, when in fact, Indigenous people were already here, and people of color built the country even further while being oppressed by the settlers and colonizers. He also just flavors his lyrics with South Asian imagery, like I said earlier, and it makes for a more interesting and unique experience, versus the generic bragging and flexing that a lot of rappers engage in. I also just think he has a great voice; he can rap very well, even though he doesn’t utilize straightforward hip-hop too much anymore (Kites is more or less a hip-hop / R&B record, because he sings a lot on that album, versus outright rapping), but he can also sing very well. A lot of his more recent material has him straight up singing, and it sounds awesome. I’ve also seen some videos he’s done recently of him singing some songs in a live setting, and they sound fantastic. I’d love to see him live, I bet he would sound absolutely fantastic. I wish more people would find him and listen to his work. I found him through Apple Music, but more specifically, on the recommended artists page while going through Riz Ahmed’s page. I was looking up his music, which I’m going to be talking about as well, and I found Anik Khan under the artists that sound similar section at the bottom, and I decided to give him a shot, so I’m glad I did. Khan is a rapper that is proud of his heritage and his culture, whether it’s through his lyrics or the music itself, all the while exploring more styles of music from all over the world. He really takes a lot of influences into his sound, and you don’t hear artists like that very often. Not only that, but he’s proud of where he’s from, and he’s proud of being an immigrant (one of my favorite lyrics is from the single “Big Fax,” where he says, “Damn, it feels good to be an immigrant,” and that’s such a powerful thing to hear), but he’s also proud to be from New York. He loves his city, more specifically his borough, but he also loves his culture. Khan is such an interesting, unique, and really cool artist that I was very happy to find, so I hope more people listen to his music after reading this. That’s what this series is going to be about, at least if I ever take a deep dive into a band or artist and don’t feel like reviewing all of their albums individually, I can write about them as a whole here. As a first episode, I’d say this was pretty successful, so hopefully you’ll join me for the next one.

My Top 10 Favourite Movies Part 1 (10 to 6)
I always find it hard to answer the question ‘What’s your favourite movie?” Because it’s so dependant on my mood or what criteria I’m judging it against, but I get it - people want some kind of insight into you and the movie you love will probably give them a bit of that. So this is my top 10 which kind of cover the run of different kinds of movies I love for very different reasons.
10. Gone with the Wind Yeah, this movie is problematic. There is no denying that, like it’s source material, it tries to put a ‘kind’ face on slavery and glamorises the south. But here’s my story, when I was 16 I went to boarding school and I was not exactly the most confident or pretty of the girls so I tended to be a little invisible, people didn’t dislike me but a lot of the time they just sorta forgot I was there. Sunday was our one free day of the week with no lessons and whilst everybody else used it to socialise I used it as my time to be alone and recharge. I’d camp out in the TV room that rarely got used except when big sports events were on - I’d take a book, a film, a mug and a load of tea bags (the kitchen was just next door!). A lot of the time that film was Gone with the Wind - Scarlett O’Hara was everything I wasn’t she was the centre of attention, she always knew what to say, she focused on her goals and didn’t really mind who she had to used to achieve them. I loved her and whilst I didn’t condone everything she did I did find myself practising some of her looks in the mirror.
9. 300 Zac Snyder’s style has taken a fair bit of probably reasonable criticism, but for me in 300 it really worked. Whilst there is some loose historical fact behind 300 it’s not meant to be accurate - it perfectly captures graphic novel style in the medium of film, something which Scott Pilgrim also manages in a different way but which a lot of films have failed to achieve. It is also being told as a story within the story in order to amp up some troops for battle so ya know its supposed to be a bit out there and exaggerated. I think its beautifully shot and paced and I like the overall message. These men didn’t think they were going to win, they knew they didn’t have the numbers, but in the face of something they saw as unreasonable they stood up anyway in the hope that there story would lead others to fight and ultimately win where they alone couldn’t. Also, Lena Headey is killing it as always.
8. Little Women (1994 version) Little Women was one of the first ‘grown-up’ books I read and I fell in love basically from the first page. I’ve seen three versions of this film and love different things about each of them, and whilst June Allyson will always be my favourite Jo on balance I think the 1994 version is the best overall film. This is for several reasons; I think Susan Sarandon is excellent, I think they handle the growing romances of Amy/Laurie and Jo/Fredrich much better and perhaps most importantly I love the score to this movie. It’s so perfect sometimes I just listen to it and it conjures up all the emotions of the film for me. I watched this film so many times when I was younger I think everyone else in my household was ready to die of boredom but I was constantly enraptured by it. I can even forgive them for prettying up some of the characters who weren’t quite so written.
7. A Muppet’s Christmas Carol Here’s a thing about me, I love Christmas as much now as I did as a child. I shamelessly buy into all the commercialism; I love the lights, the present buying, the mulled wines and ciders, I bake mince pies and gingerbread, have a Christmas songs playlist and watch tonnes of Christmas films. And I’m not sure there has been a year since it came out in 1992 when I haven’t watched the Muppet’s Christmas Carol. I think the mixture of human to Muppet characters is perfect, the songs are excellent (It feels like Christmas being a personal fave of mine) and the mixture of laughter and sadness is just right. I’ve seen this film so many times I could probably perform the whole thing solo. But I don’t think there will ever be a Christmas when I don’t sit down and watch it.
6 Kuch Kuch Hota Hai I come from a mixed race family and whilst I never learnt Hindi I did watch a lot of Hindi films when I was younger. I’m a sucker for catchy songs and gut punching emotion so Bollywood in the late 90s/early 00s was kinda made for me. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was definitely my favourite and the one I would encourage anyone who has never seen a Bollywood film before to watch. It’s a great entry point, it’s colourful, the songs will draw you in and the story is not overly complicated but the characters are well drawn. It’s so super 90s and more than a little bit over the top but I challenge anyone not to have a good time. There is a song called Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye from when one of the characters finds out the person she loves is in love with someone else that made me cry then and makes me cry every damn time I hear it.
So that’s 10 through to 6. I will follow up with part 2 later and do 5 through to the number 1 spot.

A Day With One Of The Last Bollywood Movie Poster Artists
As hand painted movie posters come to end, the old artists struggle to survive.
On a sultry Monday afternoon, I saw a different side of Bombay. I got off at Grant Road Station and hailed a cab. For a minute I felt like I was back in my own city, Calcutta. the black and yellow playing tricks on my mind. “J.J.Hospital” I said and off we went, past the bustle of lower middle class working people, the scent of dry garam masala being tempered in cheap hydrogenated oil, a flurry of old British architecture interjected with dilapidating buildings. I was out looking for a man named Akhtar Sheikh, an artist as old as his art, living in an obscure corner of the city.

The places his search for Akhtar took Falko
A few days ago South African street artist Falko One was in India - a pit stop in his five year long travel spree. He has been a graffiti artist for 25 years and is largely responsible for the development of South Africa’s graffiti scene. Identified chiefly with his colorful elephants, Falko’s project ‘Herd on the Street’ is a collection of elephants painted across the world. Determined to take the ‘Herd’ all over, Falko stopped in India to bring it here. They say birds of a feather flock together so, Falko met up with Tyrell Valadares, founder of the ‘Bandra Art Project’. It was through Tyrell that Falko met Akhtar, an erstwhile hand painter of movie posters and left him a priceless gift. A graffiti tribute of elephants inspired by the movie poster of 'Haathi Mere Saathi'.

While there was much about Falko on the internet, about Akhtar there was almost none.
From amidst the swarm of people scurrying out of a nearby mosque after the afternoon prayer, emerged a small and frail body, his eyes trying to locate me, his face patterned with wrinkles and droopy lids that looked glum in a happy way. I waved at him vigorously till his beady eyes spotted me and his furrowed eyebrows smoothened into even arcs as he smiled.

Akhtar in his tiny shop
The pavement curved into a narrow alley with adjoined buildings, paint peeling off, some that have never been painted with half-broken latticed windows and underneath every building tilted asbestos or plastic jutting out, mounted on ply planks that make for the roofs of many hole in the wall shops. Just where the road turns a corner stood Star Art, Akhtar’s shop. It has been his shrine and exhibit together for fifty long years. The foldable doors of his shop hold glass cabinets, his hand painted sketches and other artwork encased in them.
Several years ago Akhtar’s parents had migrated from Allahabad to Mumbai but when he was only one year old they passed away. Brought up by his uncle and aunt and studying at a school for orphans, Akhtar had spent all his life on 2nd Cooper Street, towing his uncle as he went about his chores. After his tenth, he had to drop out because of insufficient funds. His uncle noticed him sitting idly most of the time and told him one day, “Why don’t you learn something?” That proved to be the turning point in Akhtar’s life as he began training under a Faiz artist who was his uncle’s friend.
The process seemed never ending, he spent days learning how to sketch only the eyes and then gradually advanced from pencil to pen to paints. By the time he was a teenager he knew how to sketch, make portraits and had learnt calligraphy. He was becoming eager to put his talents to fruition. At that time everyone was crazy about the movies, as was Akhtar. The thought of chancing upon Lata Mangeshkar at a studio intrigued him greatly and he started making rounds at studios with his portfolio under his arm.

Memories of Akhtar’s past. Image source: munshimaniac.wordpress.com
Those years the only source of creative designing for everything from movie posters to casting credits were artists like him, and Akhtar was keen to join. Initially he even worked for free in films like ‘Kinare Kinare’ and ‘Jugnu’ and spent hours with other artists working on bare starch-free Markin cloth and transforming them into humongous hoardings for the streets of Mumbai and the roofs of movie halls. Later on he went on to paint famous movie posters including the promotional posters of `Mughal E Azam’.
“There used to be an entire department for this,” he says effervescently. “Just like in offices today it would take a group of 10-15 people to make one single banner, each one for a different task and we would be at it for hours.” He explained the complexity of the work and how things were different today. “Not just us, even Lata ji would have to rehearse a song for days. There were no retakes for us, just one shot.”

Akhtar bringing erstwhile actors to life
An otherwise happy man, Akhtar seemed to mellow down while talking about how things have changed. It’s not so much the waning of his art that bothers him as the quality of what’s replacing it. Take language. Words they use in songs today are neither Hindi nor Urdu. It’s a new language. Let me tell you ‘halaatein’ is no word. Its ‘halaat’ (condition). It’s already plural just like furniture”.
That Akhtar is a learned man despite no formal education is very apparent. His analogies and anecdotes are unique and entertaining. With technological advancement, the art of hand painted posters has died, and to make ends meet he has left showbiz and picked up commercial art - lettering, design, logo, letterheads. Plus making portraits for people.

Falko in old Bombay
In the past, Akhtar’s shop bustled during the end of school semesters, as long lines of girls would wait to get their art projects done by him. Handsome as he was, many times he even found scribbled notes or hidden movie tickets within those projects, but he denied them all for the love of his life. He fought against all odds to marry her. And they were together for over fifty years till she passed away last year.
When I asked him if he has a portrait of her he said the idea that artists make art inspired by their lovers is both incorrect and pedantic, and corrected the notion saying, “Artists make art for love, not lovers”.
At 75, he is one of the last living artists of his kind and barely makes ends meet. It was painful to see someone of his caliber sitting forgotten in a back lane of this big city. Before parting I asked him if he had any regrets about the life he chose. His reply was an Urdu poem - Naya hai daur Nayi zindagi ki baat karo Khilo gulo ki tarah taazgi ki baat karo

Akhtar and Falko watch ‘The Herd’ come to India
Very simply put - accept change with an open heart as times change. And in those two lines of acceptance, he emerged as a humanist.

Simmba Movie Review by Devotee Bollywood Bang Bang (DB3) :
A group of intentionally ugly, unkempt and repulsive goons standing in-front of clean shaved, gelled hair Ranveer Singh is all you want in a typical masala film. From Yaadon Ki Baarat till Simmba, the lineage of masala films have passed from the pen of Salim-Javed to Sajid-Farhad’s MacBook. Most critics and movie analysts consider ‘Masala‘ Genre as a bad piece of art but even they can’t deny that this genre has better success rate than any other category. So it won’t be justice to compare ‘Simmba’ with ‘Raazi’ or ‘Badhai Ho’. Films like ‘Singham’, ‘Kick’, ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Wanted’ are perfect parameter to judge ‘Simmba’ and like every other masala hit it is also copied from the South’s wardrobe. Yes,Simmba is a remake of Telugu film- Temper. For the first hour Ranveer Singh is playing a superhero cop with bulging muscles and no hard and rock morals like ‘Singham’ and in another half, it is a social drama with the feel of ‘Singham’. Rohit Shetty is good in maintaining franchises and after ‘Golmaal’, ‘Singham’ franchise is started by ‘Simmba’. ‘Singham’ recalled us of ‘Zanjeer’ and ‘Simmba’ recalled us of ‘Singham’.
Story by Devotee Bollywood Bang Bang(DB3)
An orphan kid born in Singham aka Bajirao Singham’s village ‘Shivgadh’ but with contrary to Bajirao’s integrity. Sangram “ Simmba” Bhalerao is an antihero whose only love interest was money till he gets transferred to ‘Miramar’ where he met Durva Ranade(Sonu Sood) and food carter Shagun(Sara Ali Khan). He was heinous, waggish and a flamboyant chap with a tag of a dishonest and corrupt police officer who turns into a serious and responsible officer after a rape-murder scene happens with her dear one. Ajay Devgan as Singham has a special appearance in the film. Film is about how ‘Simmba’ turns into ‘Singham’.
According to Devotee Bollywood Bang Bang(DB3), Ranveer has utilized his electrifying performance and energy to make Simmba a watchable film. It’s good that ‘Simmba’ wasn’t Sara Ali Khan’s debut film as the screen presence is almost negligible. Ranveer and Sara failed to show a good chemistry on screen and credit goes to the writers and director who just used Sara as an eye-candy. Sonu Sood as always played the role of dashing antagonist who will eventually get beaten up by hero. Ajay Devgan's cameo brings air to the almost dead second half. Accept Ranveer Singh if anyone could have done this role with same humour and energy that would be Akshay Kumar and yes he is also in this film. Apart from that a bunch of sidekick cops, goons and women are present to make statements which will provoke Simmba to forget logic and create emotional drama. Simmba deals with the social awareness about rape. If anybody wonders how can masala blend with social awareness, Simba is a perfect example of what to avoid.
Technical onlook by Devotee Bollywood Bang Bang(DB3)
Simmba is like an old ingredient in feverish masala. Then there’s a full complement of songs and dance but lack of powerful narration and maker’s negligence towards the role of the script is concerning.Rohit Shetty as always focused more on making every scene look bigger with various side actors and extravagant fight scenes. Sajid-Farhad has tried to cover up the dullness of script with extra layers of masala. Jomon T. John cinematography was according to scripts demand fill with so many low angles and jump shots.
Why Devotee Bollywood Bang Bang (DB3) recommend this movie
Simmba can be your paisa vasool movie if your only aim is to get good 2 hours. Its light-comedy till first half and social drama in another half can entertain you as well as spread awareness.Simmba might failed to give logics but Ranveer's performance and good punchlines will definitely make you laugh.

Name a classic that has held the test of time.
Firstly, I don’t think Raja Babu is a classic, but I can understand how Govinda fans might feel so. I’m also not a big reader of classics but I have read my fair share in my teenage years, and the only ones I still have fond memories of and wouldn’t mind rereading again are Sense and Sensibilty AND Pride and Prejudice. They definitely have held the test of time for me.
2. Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol
Name a fictional couple, who have chemistry (doesn’t have to be romantic)
Writing a six book romance series about a single couple is not easy and making the readers feel invested in them is quite remarkable. So, my answer for this one would have to be Tate and Logan from the Temptations series by Ella Frank. Their chemistry is off the charts right from the first time they meet and it sustains throughout.
3. Padmaavat
Pick Your Favourite Controversial or Problematic Read
It’s not surprising that I would choose A Court of Thorns and Roses series for this prompt. As much as I enjoyed this trilogy and reread ACOMAF multiple times, in hindsight I can’t ignore the issues related to the various characters’ actions, including Tamlin and Rhys.
4. The Three Khans (Shah Rukh, Aamir & Salman)
Name your favourite trio
This is quite a simple answer because no trio has ever left a lasting impact as much as Harry, Hermione and Ron.
5. Fawad Khan
Name a Fictional Character You Would Die For
Credit: Phantom Rin
I just finished Kingdom of Ash, so I’m still completely immersed in that world. Even without that, I would still choose Aelin Ashryver Galathynius because I really really love her character, flaws and all.
6. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
Name a book with complicated family dynamics … because it’s all about loving your parents
There is not another book/folktale/epic in the world that has more complicated family dynamics than the Mahabharata. A Spark of White Fire, YA retelling of the epic set in space definitely tries to live up to that potential and I would recommend this brilliant book to everyone.
7. Hrithik Roshan
Name a fictional character whose name you struggle to pronounce correctly.
SJM is good at making up complicated names and we see all that mastery in Throne of Glass, where every character’s name needs some thought before pronunciation.
8. Khoobsurat
Name a book with a beautiful cover (that you wouldn’t feel guilty about taking a selfie with).
The upcoming (going to be awesome) book by Sandhya Menon is There’s Something About Sweetie and that cover is gorgeous and I have never felt more represented before.
9. Arjun Kapoor & Ranveer Singh
Name Your Bookish Bromance to End ALL Bromances
Fence is a very recent favorite graphic novel series and Harvard and Aiden’s friendship is just goals. Aiden is a typical arrogant playboy while Harvard is the nicest guy around, but they are really wonderful together and I can’t wait to see where their bromance goes next.
10. Dev Patel
Name an author you NEED more from
This is actually a very long list and I wish all my favorite authors would write many more books in quick succession. However, I would choose C.S. Pacat and I wish she writes many more full length novels because graphic novels are not enough of a fix for me anymore.
11. Bend It Like Beckham
Name a book that made you extremely happy
I have mentioned this before and I will again that this year’s most happiest read of mine is My So-Called Bollywood Life. And all my joy went through the roof when I got a chance to meet and talk to Nisha Sharma recently.
12. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Pick two books with beautiful covers, one that did live up to your expectations and one that did not.
I knew I would love Dance of Thieves before it even released and it was so much better. Mary Pearson can do no wrong in my eyes and it was such a joy to be back in the Remnant universe. On the other hand, I had very high expectations from Furyborn and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them. However, you can’t deny that both the covers look totally stunning.
13. Raazi
Name a book that more less broke your very soul
Another book that I keep talking about all the time, A Charm of Finches. This book will break you, put you through an emotional wringer but will ultimately give you hope. It’s one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read in my life.
14. Anushka Sharma
Name a Female Character You Admire
In recent months, one of my favorite female characters is Hazel from Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. She is charming and quirky and eccentric and she never apologizes for being herself, despite what anyone thinks of her. She is such a sweetheart and I admire her quiet strength.
15. Slumdog Millionaire
Name a book with an underdog that you rooted for from the first page you met them
Nicholas Fox is the underdog from page 1 of Fence – the fencer with raw talent and speed but not the technical training that can make him a champion. And I am still waiting for the day he will beat Seiji.
16. Vicky Kaushal
Name a precious fictional character
Credit: Morgana0anagrom
In the latter half of the series, he has been tortured and broken, he has shown remarkable strength, and he has always been slightly arrogant. But Dorian Havilliard will always remain my sweet precious cinnamon roll – the one I fell in love with in Throne of Glass.
17. Dostana
Name a book that you think could have been done better?
Everyone loves Fangirl and after the super entertaining book that was Carry On, I expected the same. However, it was a disappointment because I could never really connect to the characters, especially the romance. I do feel that the author could have done a better job because she makes it work so well for Simon and Baz.
18. Shahid Kapoor & Ishaan Khattar
Name a book with some fantastic fictional siblings
Devon and Foster have a fraughty relationship at the beginning of First and Then, but as the book progresses, they grow closer and it’s one of the most wonderful parts of this story.
19. Deepika Padukone
Name a book with positive mental health representation
I’ve only read one book by Holly Bourne, Am I Normal Yet? and this has one of the most realistic portrayal of OCD I’ve read in my limited bibliography.
20. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi
Name some of your most anticipated releases of 2019
This is a long list and half my Goodreads TBR shelf contains 2019 releases, but my most anticipated ones are King of Scars and The Tiger at Midnight.
21. Karan Johar
Name an iconic author
KJo is a celebrity icon and I love him, so I had to think hard how to answer this one. But I have no choice ultimately, because Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s Sherlock has shaped my reading life more than any other character.
22. (BONUS) Select your favourite Bollywood film & or performer (or even song) and create a question
BAAHUBALI
Name a book or series(or author) that literally blew your mind
First, I’m going to shamelessly plug one of the earliest posts from my blog about my favorite movie ever – Baahubali (click here for link). I wrote it with a lot of love but no one ever read it 😒😒 but if you have a lot of patience, feel free to check it out.
Befitting the masterpiece that is Baahubali, I am going to choose two brilliant authors: Leigh Bardugo and Robert Jackson Bennett, whose scale and depth of worldbuilding just amazes me every single time. If you love fantasy, then you have to pick up their books, because I promise you, you are missing out on all the fun.

Celebrate This 50th Wedding Anniversary in (Bollywood Style)
There is no denying that Bollywood has changed immensely in the last few decades. There was a time when Rishi Kapoor’s charms and Helen’s scintillating dance moves dominated the silver screen. Nevertheless, some Bollywood films remain evergreen and are important milestones in the Indian film industry.
Speaking of Bollywood and evergreen films, there are numerous Bollywood-themed gifts that you can give a movie enthusiast on a wedding anniversary. Instead of purchasing flowers and chocolates, opt for gifts that are useful and go well with your spouse’s personality.
Celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary with these unique gifts:
1. Bollywood dialogue cushion covers:
Dialogues were an integral part of Bollywood films. Sholay’s “Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge” and “Pushpa I hate tears” in Amar Prem will never be forgotten. There are ample cushion covers available on shopping portals and retail stores with these famous dialogues etched on them. This is an especially good gift if you partner loves recalling filmy dialogues
2.Saregama Carvaan
An ideal gift for music lovers, Saregama Carvaan rose to popularity because it is a portable music player that has an impressive 5,000 songs from the yesteryears of Bollywood. Equipped with Bluetooth, FM radio and a USB port, it immediately brings back memories of playing antakshari and singing songs at home with friends and family in the evenings over cups of piping hot tea. The Carvaan sections songs based on artists (Lata didi, Rafi sahab and Asha di) and moods
3. “Action” Bollywood star photo album
“Action!” was perhaps the most important instruction given by a director once upon a time. Actors and actresses would wait for that word in anticipation before acting out a scene. Amazon provides an “Action!” themed photo album in which the cover is the action board that is snapped before filming a scene. Store all your old photos of kids, weddings, anniversaries, family functions and other memorable events in this nifty book.
4. Poster of evergreen Bollywood films
Ah, Bollywood posters! Once upon a time, many rooms had been adorned by Bollywood posters. Pictures of the latest blockbusters and actresses -- Helen, Madubala, Rekha, Dimple Kapadia and Praveen Babi -- hung on walls of rooms. Why not gift a poster of your spouse’s favorite Bollywood film on your wedding anniversary? It also makes a great housewarming gift. Posters will never be out of fashion. You can even frame it.

Thin crowds greet Bollywood film after rumors set off anger
NEW DELHI/January 25, 2018 (AP)(STL.News) — There was anger about a rumored romance between a Hindu queen and a Muslim invader. There were death threats. There were buses burned and grandstanding politicians.
But when the Indian film “Padmaavat” was finally released on Thursday amid heavy security and breathless TV coverage, Bollywood’s latest over-the-top offering turned out to be just that: an opulent period drama with multiple songs and dances and a thin storyline and not the slightest hint of the rumored relationship.
At a theater in the Indian capital, dozens of policemen and even a few armed paramilitary troops were posted outside. There were no posters announcing the release and less than a 100 people watched the film in a theater meant for a thousand viewers.
The film is based on a 16th century epic Sufi poem, “Padmavat,” in which a brave and beautiful Rajput queen chose to immolate herself in a ceremonial fire rather than be captured by the Muslim sultan of Delhi, Allaudin Khilji.
Over centuries of retelling, the epic has come to be seen as history, despite little evidence. The main character of Queen Padmini has become an object of veneration for many Rajputs, the clans of former warriors and kings from the western state of Rajasthan.
And that is where the film’s many woes originated.
Rumors, denied multiple times by the film’s producer and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, swirled that the film depicted a romantic dream sequence between the invading sultan and the queen of legendary beauty he madly coveted. As it happens, Queen Padmini and Khilji, the sultan, never interact in the film and are in the same frame for just a few seconds.
The film’s sets were vandalized several times by Rajput groups over the last year and Bhansali was manhandled by a mob.
Members of several small Rajput groups continued to be enraged about the film despite Bhansali’s protestations.
They kept finding reasons to be enraged.
The film’s trailer showed the queen and her female companions dancing during a religious celebration, which angered some protesters. A demure Rajput queen would never be seen dancing in public. In fact, in the film she is seen dancing only in front of her husband.
Others were angry that during the dance her bare midriff was visible briefly — so the filmmakers used special effects to cover her up.
As the film’s initial release date of Dec. 1 inched closer, the threats grew and spread outside Rajasthan.
In November, Suraj Pal Amu, a member of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party from the northern state of Haryana, offered 100 million rupees ($1.5 million) to anyone who beheaded Bhansali and lead actress Deepika Padukone.
The head of the Rajput Karni Sena in Rajasthan said Padukone should have her nose cut off — a symbol of public humiliation — for being in a film that he said insulted the famed queen.
Four Indian states, all ruled by the Hindu nationalist BJP, said they would ban the film because it hurt local sentiments.
For a while it appeared the film would never be released.
The producers scrambled to save their expensive extravaganza. A group that included representatives of India’s former Rajput royal families watched the film before the country’s censor board gave it a greenlight. They changed the name from “Padmavati,” one of the names of the queen.
They issued full-page disclaimers in every national newspaper, insisting the film paid homage to the valor of the brave queen and the heroic history of the Rajputs.
India’s top court had to step in and order the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Haryana to reverse their bans.
But the violence continued up until Thursday, with protesters setting buses on fire, damaging some theaters ahead of the release and blocking many national highways.
Several theater owners didn’t screen the film for fear of vandalism.
Prema Swarupa, a 21-year-old college student who braved the early winter chill and fears of violence to watch the film in New Delhi, was puzzled by the protests.
“I was definitely scared there would be violence but I can’t understand at all what all the protests have been about. There’s nothing in this film,” he said.
“It was all for nothing.”
