Okay I used to think chinooks were exclusively military helicopters, since that's the only context I'd ever seen them in, but it turns out that there's a civilian version, the Boeing-Vertol 234??
In 1986, one of these, G-BWFC operated by British International Helicopters (privatized successor of BA Helicopters, hi maggie) crashed into the sea near the Shetland Islands which ended up being the deadliest helicopter accident in British history?????
shit's wild and i wish i could discuss it more but unfortunately i am in yapping mode and i don't have a ton to yap about, would be great to hear about these from someone who knows a little more ^^

A Canadian CL-415 Super Scooper amphibious waterbomber battling the Pacific Palisades fire in Los Angeles was seriously damaged when it collided with a drone Thursday. The plane ended up with a hole in the leading edge of its left wing. It landed safely but is grounded indefinitely. The aircraft was among several deployed from Canada to help out with the unprecedented catastrophe.
According to a statement released Wednesday on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s website, the state has deployed at least six air tankers and 31 helicopters to combat the flames.
In addition to California’s response, the Pentagon has stepped in, announcing the deployment of ten Navy helicopters equipped with water delivery buckets to assist in aerial fire suppression. A Pentagon press secretary also confirmed the activation of four C-130 aircraft outfitted with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS) units. This technology allows C-130 Hercules planes to be converted into firefighting aircraft with minimal modifications, providing a critical boost to the firefighting effort.
California has also enlisted help from Canada, as several helicopters from Coulson Aviation have arrived to fight the blaze. Among the assets are three Boeing CH-47 Chinook helitankers, each equipped with 3,000-gallon tanks, and a smaller Sikorsky helicopter, as reported by CTV News Vancouver. Additionally, two Canadian-made water bombers have also been requested to join the fight.
Other states such Arizona and Colorado are also sending aircraft to support the operations.
Meanwhile, officials have reported that strong winds have significantly hindered aerial operations in the area.

I’ve realized I need to give some love to my other TF babies so decided to put the spotlight on my helicopter son Mayday.
Mayday is the youngest of my copter trio: Sky Atlas > LightBlade > Mayday, and his alt is a fire rescue Boeing CH-47 Chinook. Mayday is a firefighter and search and rescue bot, with very basic medic training to support emergency needs in the field where no proper medic is available. Mayday can fly in both root and alt mode, and knows basic hand-to-hand combat, though isn’t the most proficient since his priority is on search and rescue, not active fire fight.
Mayday is an autobot deployed on Earth and serves actively as a rescue bot, and is EMS buddy’s with Remedy. The two met through Maydays sister, LightBlade, and Remedy helps him learn more medic techniques to support in field. Mayday is massive given his alt mode, and is used to towering over most other bots, except for his siblings, both of whom are taller.
Mayday is very quiet, reserved, and pensive. He doesn’t usually have much to say, and other bots have to really hustle to even just get a few words out of him.

Planes my brother saw at the airport:

RAAF C17A Globemaster (A41-210)
This plane was produced by Boeing for the Royal Australian Air Force thirteen years ago. The Globemaster is just over fifty metres long and about as wide, giving it an aspect ratio of around 1:1. It’s used as a strategic heavy lifter, and it can comfortably move as many people as most 737s, or take seventy-five tonnes of freight (on top of its empty weight of 128 tonnes!). To give you a concept, this lovely beast can fit a CH-47 Chinook in her belly. This plane is capable of carrying a large helicopter inside it. For four and a half thousand kilometres.

NASA Gulfstream V (N95NA)
This sleek beauty came to Australia to watch the Starship return to Earth. The landing is cool enough in itself but then we also get graced by this small jet with a very recognisable logo on the tail. This plane is 23 years old, and its usual callsign is NASA 5. This plane has a max range of over 10000 km, and can reach a ceiling of more than 50,000 feet. Since this photo was taken it has now returned to the US (currently in Texas), which it made in three legs.
I am jealous.
