It's finally getting warmer in March in Japan. I'm so happy to be able to feel spring🌸

This winter, I was very pleased with this light blue long coat which I got at H&M last year.

Since I wear black a lot, I wanted to try colorful clothes. I was wearing a black sweater and satin pants under the coat. This beautiful light blue made me look bright, and I really loved it!!!

There will be still a few cold days left, I hope I can wear it one more time☺️💙🖤🤍

Idk how many of my followers have ever heard of Drum Corps International, but it’s basically professional marching band.

I was at a marching band show today and it sparked some nostalgia for one of my all time favorite shows, the Bluecoats 2014 show, Tilt

I know I'm reaching an incredibly niche audience with posting drum corps content, but here's some of my favorite moments of this year's DCI shows. Also really liked Phantom (as usual lol, another year another season where I love Troopers, Crown, and Phantom), but I don't have a great recording of them.

Sadly most of these clips are weeks old (except Troop I managed to get their performance from Atlanta today 🤫) and these shows are even better now, so if any of these interest you, I suggest seeking out more recent recording and look out in a couple weeks for the Finals shows in Indy!

DCI uniform sketches

What happens when a handful of average folk have had enough of missing persons cases, lost pets, and stolen goods, and decide it's time to form a secret club for fairy hunting?

Very bad things.

The Greyhound Circle was nothing more than a club of Alderhill's most staunchly anti-fairy residents at the time (the 60's). They genuinely believed that if they braved the wilderness to figure out how their enemy ticked, they could purge a good swath of fairies from the woods in the name of safety. They were wrong. So wrong in fact, that most of their members never escaped the Hill, and the few that made it out alive never set foot in the forest again.

The conflict they stirred went unbeknownst to the village, but the impact it had on the Hill and her people made history. Even with their small headcount they cleaved a brutal wound through the fairies' domain. And it cleaved through them in turn. On both sides things have undoubtedly changed, but only the Hill's people remember.

Do you have any strong opinions on traditional uniforms vs more "costume" ones because I know a lot of people do

ohhh boy you've given me an excuse to ramble and I will Take it.

I'd say I fall more on the traditionalist/purist side when it comes to uniforms but I'm not quite a hardcore uniform purist. I don't have anything against show-specific uniforms like some people do but they're just too flat these days in my opinion. I'm strongly against printed details on a uniform that could be adding dimensionality if they were sewed on.

I really dislike how flat the Bluecoats' uniforms are this year (left image) and I think that SCV (right image) did a really good job with dimensionality and textural variety this year.

I don't care as much about the shaping of the uniform, if it's more form fitting and not traditional bibbers and jacket/coat, as long as it's not this flat.

I do really miss shakos though. I feel like the plume just adds so much potential for visuals and the marchers' hair being hidden does a Lot for uniformity. and even the hollow shakos like Boston had for White Whale last year! I wasn't a fan when I first saw them but it's still so much better than a bare head of hair.

and I really like when a corps has year to year consistent design elements in their uniforms, which I feel like the Blue Devils and the Cavaliers do really well. I would be able to look at a Cavaliers or Blue Devils uniform from any year after "modern" show-specific uniforms started gaining traction and tell you it was them even if I had never seen the show. that's what I like, being able to recognize a corps by their uniforms and feeling like there's an identity to the uniform past just the year that it's made for. and I suppose shakos help with that too, to unify all the corps visually, when some have more traditional uniforms like Phantom Regiment and some have more modern ones like the Bluecoats. if they all have shakos of some sort it's easier to recognize that they're all part of the same activity.
