Drink orange 🍊 juice, & take a nice picture 📸 ……………………… So says the sign I’m perched up next to. [Please excuse that glaring light streak. This is the best we could do. 😆] While walking with new travel friends 🥰, we happened upon this elderly gentleman selling freshly squeezed orange juice. His little setup was so adorable, that I just could not pass up the opportunity to snap pictures of it. This gentleman must be very well known, cause he and his little stand are all over Pinterest! He speaks no English, but he is such a sweetheart! 😆💙 If you are passing through Chefchaouen and want to pay him a visit, be sure to walk down : 📍Blue Street I promise you won’t miss him! Jodhpur, often called the Blue City of Rajasthan, is a captivating blend of royal heritage and cultural charm. Its vibrant streets, iconic architecture, and historic landmarks make it a must-visit destination. Here are four unmissable places to explore in Jodhpur.
Tumblr media
1. Mehrangarh Fort
Perched 410 feet above the vibrant city of Jodhpur, Mehrangarh Fort is a testament to Rajasthan’s royal legacy. This colossal fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Blue City below, making it a photographer’s paradise. You'll find an exquisite museum within its mighty walls showcasing royal palanquins, weaponry, costumes, and intricately carved artifacts. Each corner of the fort tells a tale of valor and opulence, immersing you in Jodhpur’s rich history.
Best Time to Visit: Early mornings (8:30 AM - 10:30 AM) or late afternoons to avoid crowds and enjoy the fort under golden sunlight. October to March is ideal, as the weather is pleasant for exploring.
2. Umaid Bhawan Palace
An epitome of architectural grandeur, the Umaid Bhawan Palace combines royal elegance with modern luxury. This stunning palace is divided into three sections: a luxury hotel, a royal residence, and a museum. The museum offers a glimpse into the royal family's lifestyle, with vintage cars, clocks, and regal memorabilia exhibits. Whether you admire the golden sandstone structure from the outside or indulge in the luxury hotel experience, the palace transports you to an era of royal splendor.
Best Time to Visit: During the daytime, between October and March, to enjoy the cool weather and explore the museum and palace grounds comfortably.
3. Toorji Ka Jhalra
Step into a slice of Jodhpur’s history with Toorji Ka Jhalra, an intricately designed stepwell dating back to the 18th century. Built to store water in this arid region, the stepwell now serves as a serene retreat for visitors and photographers alike. Its symmetrical design and detailed carvings reflect the craftsmanship of a bygone era. Spend a quiet moment here, soaking in the tranquility and marveling at the ingenuity of ancient water architecture.
Best Time to Visit: Early mornings or evenings for the best lighting for photography. The cooler months from November to February enhance the experience.
4. Jaswant Thada
Known as the “Taj Mahal of Marwar,” Jaswant Thada is a pristine marble cenotaph that exudes serenity and charm. Built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, this architectural gem features intricately carved marble latticework and a peaceful garden surrounding the cenotaph. The site offers stunning views of Mehrangarh Fort, making it a perfect spot for introspection or photography. The soft sunlight filtering through the marble gives it an ethereal glow you won’t forget.
Best Time to Visit: Visit during the morning (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM) to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and capture stunning photographs. Winter months (October to February) are most suitable.
From the azure walls of the old city to the bustling markets filled with spices, textiles, and jewelry, Jodhpur is a traveler’s delight. Whether you're chasing history, culture, or just a slice of Rajasthan’s royal charm, the Blue City has something for everyone.
