Honestly because i like Children of blood and bone so much and the 3 book isnt out yet i bought Blood Scion because it has a similar story with orisha gods and magic at least and i needed more Especially with that stupid ass cliffhanger at the end of Children of virtue and vengeance

what is with the obsession with ppl wanting to pair an oppressed person (in this case, it’s Sloane, a scion whose kind are going through a GENOCIDE) and a person whose whole job is to oppress them (Dane Gray/Omari Wells, a soldier that kills scions)? why tf do i keep finding books like these?? how is this seen as cute or romantic?? fuck off.

not to mention Sloane’s boyfriend at the beginning, Teo, fucking DIED only a month before and you’re telling me i’m supposed to believe she’s over him after only a month? come on.

March 2024 Reading Wrap Up

I read 2 books and got 2 kindle challenge achievements this month!

Now let's look at the breakdown :)

Reading Challenge Progress: I committed to reading 30 books in 2024 so currently I'm ahead by 2 books!

Top Genre read as at 2024: Young Adult

My first read for March and 7th read for the year was Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye. Rating: 2.5/5

First of all, a moment for the cover. My main reason for giving this book a shot is that the book cover artist is West Indian and I give a coin for my people! I liked the representation of Yoruba culture in this book, often times books based on African Culture can feel like the author only experienced it second hand. I think the author portrayed the culture well while still making it understandable for those who haven't experienced it.

Blood Scion earned me the New Year Kindle Challenge Achievements - National Reading Month

Book #8 was Yellowface by R. F. Kuang . Rating: 4/5

This book won Best Fiction for 2023 so that placed it on my radar. Once I acknowledged that this was a horror novel and the main character wasn't to be liked I was able to appreciate the book for what it was. I also appreciated the insight into the publishing world this book gives the reader.

Thanks to Yellowface being a kindle read, I earned the New Year Kindle Challenge Achievement: Page Sage while reading this book. That rounds out all 15 Kindle Challenge Achievements for the Q1. Love that for me.

Hel and Baldr vibing in Helheim subway. Because surely Helheim has subways.

These is my take on these two for "Scion: becoming as gods" ttrpg. It's a really cool game about being a child of a deity (from literally any pantheon, not just greek or roman like in pjo, for example). So of course there are deities and some mythical beings. And of course I have to make an attempt at designing my faves from those.

I find it really interesting and tragic how Hel and Baldr parallel eachother. Both kinda did nothing wrong except being Loki's daughter and Odin's son. Both ended up in the afterlife for this. They're children of sworn enemies stuck here because of their parents. I feel like there is some sort of weird understanding in spite of their fathers animosity towards eachother. Or, more accurately, because of it. Yeah, I headcanon that Hel and Baldr became friends really quickly upon meeting.

Honestly their duet of life and death, warmth and cold, growth and decay is so underrated. I get that most mythology fans get that from Hades and Persephone, but these two are so slept on :'D
