Obviously it’s just a coincidence since “Blink” is one of the most popular episodes in the series, but I think it’s great that the episode that the Whovians chose as their favorite is the one where the Doctor is only able to communicate with the other characters through a tv.

i understand why RTD used blink here though — thematically it makes complete sense. blink is another episode where the audience is implicated in the story, they have to keep watching, glued to the screen, not allowed to look away either; or the weeping angels (every image of an angel becomes an angel) will Come Out Of The TV and Get You

But also, love that choosing Blink means not just choosing an episode most of the current fanbase will know (reasonable if a tad pandering), but means choosing the most popular episode that barely features the Doctor.

It's why the Doctor is so annoyed by that choice: he's not even close to being the hero in that story. The whole episode we only get like 90 seconds of him that isn't a recording on a TV screen and a bunch of that time is after the danger is past.

It's the perfect 'mess with this man' episode.

i think it was an unrealistic portrayal of hardcore fans because when asked about their favourite episode instead of an obscure missing episode from the 60s they said the most basic normie answer
