Welcome to an EXTREMELY late…episode? Post? Whatever this is. It’s day three of Comedy Walk! Walk! And due to scheduling issues I had to make my walk at night instead of my normal morning routine. Regardless, I’m still here to make my post! Progress, not perfection.
For whatever reason it’s so incredibly difficult to find any clips of this episode that I can post to this blog, so instead I posted one of the songs featured on todays episode. As always, I’ll be listing all of the music played throughout the episode at the end of the post.
Todays episode was more of the same, an odd ball of unmolded clay unsure of what it wanted to truly become. We’re still in the Indie 103.1 days so the episode again feels more like a classic radio comedy show compared to current day CBB. This episode feature Jackie Clarke (Superstore) Greg Behrendt (He’s Just Not That Into You) Nick Thune (Venom, apparently?) and another “episode” of Doug Loves Movies featuring Doug Benson.
Jackie Clarke is the first female comedian to pop up on the show, which they are quick to poke fun at and quickly start talking about crude subjects like pubes just because. Greg Behrendt comes on to discuss his book? Maybe? He and Scott mostly discuss music and playing live shows as Greg recently (at the time of the recording at least) formed and was playing with a ska/surf rock band called The Reigning Monarchs (first featured on yesterdays episode!)
It’s at this moment I got one of the best little bit of information about Scott Aukerman that I’m not even sure is researchable in any way, and who knows if there is any validity to this since Scott is known to be very sarcastic but he claims that he was originally a co-lead singer for No Doubt, but quit because he didn’t think it was a right fit for him. Now this COULD have been a joke however Jackie and Greg quickly ask Scott for the details and Scott says he’d rather not talk about it on air but would tell them later which leads me to believe it’s true. The world may never know…
Anyways, the episode concludes with some Twitter questions that again don’t generate as much conversation as Scott was probably hoping at the time (something I’m sure I’ll say a lot for these first few episodes) Nick Thune does a few of his rapid fire one liner jokes over guitar, and Doug Benson calls in to review “Angels and Demons” the sequel to “The Davinci Code” which Doug describes and “incredibly boring, it out does The Davinci Code in boringocity”
As for the walk, due to my work schedule I wasn’t able to go for my walk until around 8pm so I walked most of my trail in the dark. The cold night air was a refreshing change of pace, and having the park to myself is nice, but I felt uneasy about being there so late and I felt like I was in a rush to leave to avoid being hassled by the police for being in a park at dark or something.
Overall todays walk kind of outweighed todays episode, but when you average the two together I’d still have to give todays walk as well as Episode 3 of Comedy Death Ray…a 3 out of 5.
Songs featured in todays episode:
Theme song from Monty Pythons: The Life of Brian
Don’t Stop or We’ll Die - “Austin and Ace”
Tenacious D - I’m not sure what song this was they cut most of it out and Scott never says the track only Tenacious D
The New Sheridans - “Blayne”
The Reigning Monarchs - “Fanfare for the Well Dressed Man”
The Lonely Island - “Punch You in the Jeans”
Hulk Hogan and The Wrestling Boot Band - “I Wanna Be a Hulkomaniac”

Glenn H. Shima
Glenn H. Shima Solon Glenn H. Shima, 95, of rural Solon, died at his home, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Glenn’s memory to Camp Courageous, Solon American Legion or the Solon Fire Department. To share a thought, memory or condolence please visit Gay & Ciha Funeral; and Cremation Service website at www.gayandciha.com. Glenn was born Aug. 19, 1927, the son of Victor Arthur and Bessie (Cilek) Shima on the family farm near Solon, Iowa. He attended country school until the eighth grade in 1941. Then off to Solon High where he graduated in 1945 at the age of 17. Glenn met the love of his life while in high school, he was a senior and fell for this freshman girl, named Irene Novotny. He was proud to tell you about one of the ways he showed his love for her during school. In class one day while sitting behind her, he dipped her braided hair in his ink well. As Paul Harvey would say, now you know the rest of the story, this couple would be later married on June 19, 1950, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. A marriage that would thrive for 61 years and 243 days until Irene’s death. He stayed on the farm after graduation and, in his words, “worked like a beaver” for his folks. In 1951 Glenn enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Returning home, Glenn and Irene worked on their farm they bought in 1960, raising their family but also working off the farm. Irene worked various jobs in town, retiring from the City of Iowa City. Glenn, who had developed master carpenter skills along the way, was in high demand from area contractors for his fine craftsman work. After many years of construction, he worked for the U of I Maintenance and retired. Glenn cherished the many friendships he developed over the years from his days in the army, his many work sites in his construction days, his classmates and neighbors. Glenn enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends, a frequent visitor on Princess Cruise Lines! He was a proud 64-year member of the Solon American Legion, a member of both St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Iowa City and St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Newport Township of Johnson County; and loved tooling around with the love of his life in the front seat with the Classy Chassy Cruisers. Glenn truly was a man of strong faith, loved his family, understood what it meant to be a farmer, and was always a friend you could count on. His family includes his two daughters and their husbands, Kayleen and Mike Gardner, and Connie and Dick Friedl; two granddaughters and their husbands, Emily and Dan Frett, and Kelly and Blayne Willadsen; and three very near and dear great-grandchildren to Glenn, Sadie Irene Willadsen, Macie Ann and Marshall Scott Frett. He was preceded in death by his parents, his dear wife, Irene, and sister, Betty Shima. Glenn would like to leave you with this, “It’s a great day when the sun shines.” Everyone would remember him saying this to you! How about Harvest?
Harvest - Which fictional character do you most identify with? Why?
This is actually a really complicated questions because, thus far, I've yet to find a fictional character I wholly identify with. It would be safer to say that every character has traits I see in myself, perhaps even traits I've cultivated within myself because I like them in the fictional universe they stem from.
A few that I particularly admire, however, whose traits I have absorbed in one way or another on some level are:
- Clarke Griffin
- Hermione Granger
- Elizabeth Bennett
- Raven Reyes
- Natasha Romanova
- Buffy Summers
- Willow Rosenberg
- Arya Stark
- Sansa Stark
- Ginny Weasley
- Yelena Zaltana
- Blayne Thorpe
- Dee-Ann Smith
- Veronica Mars
- Cindy McKenzie
- Peton Sawyer
- Brooke Davis
- Hayley James Scott
- Miranda Hamilton
- Abigail Ashe
- Eleanor Guthrie
- Lettica Ortiz
- Anne Bonny
All these womem in fiction have inspired me as I've matured, so it's impossible to deny that bits and pieces of who they are and how they're portrayed have been absorbed into how I've grown as a woman. That's the purpose of literature, is it not? To entertain and guide the shape of our lives and ourselves within them?
Thanks for asking! You're a gem!

Fantasy: Week 31 positional rankings
USA Today Sports Images
September 25, 20183:04PM EDT
Reid keeps it simple this week and is joined by co-hosts Mike and Blayne to go over all of the important results from Round 30 and preview the most promising games from Round 31. They keep things moving at a steady pace but Reid takes a moment during the NYCFC preview to pause and breakdown how to use Johnson in a Keeperoo in Round 31. They wrap everything up with a shout out to the top scores from the MLSFI Hosts league and their plugz. It’s a quick show but covers everything you need to know before Round 31 games start on Wednesday.
New York City FC and Chicago Fire are the only teams that play twice in Week 31, with NYCFC boasting the more favorable schedule of the two. There are several players with just one game that have enticing matchups and strong fantasy appeal this week too, so let’s take a closer look at this week’s MLS Fantasy positional rankings.
.field-item .section .col div.button-blue, .button-blue {margin:0 auto 10px auto;width:200px;padding:8px;text-align:center;background: #0071a9;background: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #0071a9 0%, #002945 100%);background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(0%,#0071a9), color-stop(100%,#002945));background: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #0071a9 0%,#002945 100%);background: -o-linear-gradient(top, #0071a9 0%,#002945 100%);background: -ms-linear-gradient(top, #0071a9 0%,#002945 100%);background: linear-gradient(to bottom, #0071a9 0%,#002945 100%);filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr=’#0071a9′, endColorstr=’#002945′,GradientType=0 );border-radius: 5px 5px 5px 5px;-moz-border-radius: 5px 5px 5px 5px;-webkit-border-radius: 5px 5px 5px 5px;} .section .col .button-blue p, .button-blue p {margin:0;padding:0;font-family:’din_regular’;font-size:1.1em;} .section .col .button-blue p a, .button-blue p a {color:#f1f1f1 !important;text-decoration:none !important;} @media screen and (max-width: 730px) { } @media screen and (min-width: 731px) and (max-width: 1120px) { } @media screen and (min-width: 1121px) { }
Goalkeepers
Sean Johnson hasn’t kept a clean sheet since Week 22, but he’s in a good spot to get back on track with two favorable games in Week 31.
Rank Player Team Opponent Price 1 Sean Johnson NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 6.3 2 Stefan Frei SEA vs. COL $ 8.5 3 Zack Steffen CLB vs. PHI $ 7.0 4 Tim Melia SKC vs. RSL $ 9.8 5 Alex Bono TOR vs. NE $ 5.9 6 Steve Clark POR vs. DAL $ 5.9 7 Bill Hamid DC vs. MTL $ 7.9 8 Joe Willis HOU vs. SJ $ 6.6 9 David Bingham LA vs. VAN $ 4.8 10 Richard Sanchez CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 6.6
Defenders
NYCFC defender Anton Tinnerholm is a quality option with two games this week. | USA Today Sports Images
Anton Tinnerholm scored just six points in New York City’s last double-game week, but his 24-point haul in their Week 20 DGW is a good indicator of the fantasy upside he brings to the table. Matchups against Chicago Wednesday (7 pm ET | TV & streaming info) and Minnesota Saturday (8 pm ET | TV & streaming info) present a good opportunity for Tinnerholm to generate both attacking and defensive points this week.
Rank Player Team Opponent Price 1 Anton Tinnerholm NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 6.8 2 Ronald Matarrita NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 4.2 3 Maxime Chanot NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 7.8 4 Ben Sweat NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 4.9 5 Graham Zusi SKC vs. RSL $ 11.3 6 Harrison Afful CLB vs. PHI $ 9.5 7 Chad Marshall SEA vs. COL $ 9.3 8 Ike Opara SKC vs. RSL $ 10.5 9 Kim Kee-Hee SEA vs. COL $ 8.5 10 Matt Besler SKC vs. RSL $ 11.0 11 Johan Kappelhof CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 5.5 12 Jonathan Mensah CLB vs. PHI $ 9.0 13 Kelvin Leerdam SEA vs. COL $ 6.5 14 Milton Valenzuela CLB vs. PHI $ 8.0 15 Nouhou Tolo SEA vs. COL $ 6.2 16 Alejandro Fuenmayor HOU vs. SJ $ 6.4 17 Sebastien Ibeagha NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 5.8 18 Alvas Powell POR vs. DAL $ 5.7 19 Justin Morrow TOR vs. NE $ 6.8 20 Roman Torres SEA vs. COL $ 4.0
Midfielders
Maxi Moralez didn’t score or assist in NYCFC’s Week 28 DGW, but still came away with 12 fantasy points, highlighting his ability to pile up points regardless of if he makes his mark on the score sheet. He’s the second highest scoring midfielder in MLS Fantasy and with a pair of enticing matchups, Moralez should be one of the first players in your lineup this week.
Rank Player Team Opponent Price 1 Maxi Moralez NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 10.3 2 Ismael Tajouri-Shradi NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 9.5 3 Valentin Castellanos NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 5.5 4 Aleksandar Katai CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 7.0 5 Alexander Ring NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 6.5 6 Bastian Schweinsteiger CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 8.2 7 Ebenezer Ofori NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 5.8 8 Dax McCarty CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 7.4 9 Nicolas Lodeiro SEA vs. COL $ 11.0 10 Miguel Almiron ATL at RBNY $ 12.0 11 Romain Alessandrini LA vs. VAN $ 11.7 12 Djordje Mihailovic CHI at NYC, vs. LAFC $ 6.2 13 Ignacio Piatti MTL at DC $ 10.8 14 Diego Valeri POR vs. DAL $ 11.0 15 Luciano Acosta DC vs. MTL $ 11.5 16 Federico Higuain CLB vs. PHI $ 7.0 17 Yamil Asad DC vs. MTL $ 9.2 18 Victor Vazquez TOR vs. NE $ 8.4 19 Jonathan Osorio TOR vs. NE $ 11.8 20 Johnny Russell SKC vs. RSL $ 8.5 21 Kaku RBNY vs. ATL $ 7.8 22 Felipe Gutierrez SKC vs. RSL $ 8.3 23 Saphir Taider MTL at DC $ 11.0 24 Eloi Amagat NYC vs. CHI, at MIN $ 5.0 25 Julian Gressel ATL at RBNY $ 10.9 26 Tomas Martinez HOU vs. SJ $ 8.5 27 Borek Dockal PHI at CLB $ 11.1 28 Albert Rusnak RSL at SKC $ 11.8 29 Lee Nguyen LAFC at CHI $ 9.5 30 Sebastian Blanco POR vs. DAL $ 9.5
Forwards
NYCFC forward David Villa couid have a big week with games against Chicago and Minnesota on tap. | USA Today Sports Images
David Villa has topped double digit fantasy points in both DGW’s that he’s featured in this season, and he’s in prime position to deliver another strong score with two favorable games against Chicago and Minnesota. Just be mindful of potential roster rotation on Minnesota’s turf field this weekend.

MLS Fantasy has launched. Listen as Reid, Mike, Blayne and our special guest, Phil Luetchford quickly go over some of their favorite changes to the 2018 version of the Fantasy game. After the dust settles, stay around for the main event… Our Western Conference Preview! Phil and Blayne go back and forth talking about each team and highlighting their standout Fantasy options. It’s a must-listen as you build your first team.
Welcome back everyone! MLS Fantasy has officially begun and there are a lot of exciting changes. One thing that has not changed is roster building. We still get two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards. If you’re new to the game, this may seems like a challenge, but that’s why I’m here. As we count down the days to kickoff on March 3, I’ll be giving you lists of my top players from each position.
We’re starting things out with my Top 10 goalkeeper rankings. Just like last year, I set my rankings using 2017 point generation per 90 minutes played, total 2018 starting price, and the overall quality of the defensive unit.

Breaking down the Top 3
Player Team Price 1. Tim Melia SKC $ 6.0 2. Alex Bono TOR $ 6.0 3. Stefan Frei SEA $ 6.0
The common thread for my top three players is that they were very successful in 2017 and they kept their core defensive units intact during the offseason. Sporting Kansas City’sTim Melia gets the top spot as SKC earned the titles of 2017 Goalkeeper and Defender of the year. Alex Bono battled to become a starter on the best team in MLS last year, which helps him get to number two on my list. He’s a great option, but Toronto FC did let in a few more goals that two other teams in 2017. Rounding out the top three is Stefan Frei. The Seattle Sounders were MLS Cup finalists and Frei was the co-highest scoring fantasy keeper in 2017. Frei was also the ‘keeper with the most clean sheets and that’s a bread-and-butter stat for a top ‘keeper.
Middle of the pack
Player Team Price 4. Sean Johnson NYC $ 5.5 5. Luis Robles NY $ 5.5 6. Zack Steffen CLB $ 5.5 7. Joe Bendik ORL $ 5.0
This next group of ‘keepers is a bit more affordable, but they still maintain a high level of play and point generation. Many of these players were in the middle of the pack when it came to clean sheets, but were able to make up the difference by the high number of recoveries (1 point for every 6 recoveries) they were able to generate over the season.
Three more solid candidates
Player Team Price 8. Brad Guzan ATL $ 6.0 9. Andre Blake PHI $ 6.0 10. David Ousted DC $ 5.0
These final players are a mixed bag, but each has one problem that makes me only consider them as situational picks. Brad Guzan had some great moments but we haven’t yet seen a full season from him.
Andre Blake had a great season and was one of my favorite young goalkeepers of 2017 and had the highest PP90 numbers. But the problem with the Jamaican international is that he’s just too expensive.
Finally, David Ousted has had a successful career in both MLS and MLS Fantasy. He left Vancouver in the offseason and will take Bill Hamid’s spot at D.C. United this season, if he fends off Steve Clark for the starting role. His price is good but I want to wait and see how his form holds before deciding if he’s still dependable.
These are my top ‘keeper picks for the start of the 2018 season. Is there anyone you think should be here? If so, share your favorites in the comments below.
