⥠Augâs TKTober2024
DAY 18: Tickle Fight
âYou Can Relaxââan SCP Foundation Story
⥠Also available on my FanFiction! (Autobot-Tiff)
Word Count: 6k
Summary: It is late at night of the weekend Travis sought sanctuary at the SCP Foundation, but he is still anxious to go to sleep. Itâs everyoneâs favorite SCP, 999, to the rescue. Takes place in its own timeline at the Foundation, in an AU. This is a tickle fic, obviously. X3
TW: Mentions of past abuse.
Travis Blanche belongs to me!
Agent Simon Fisher belongs to my best friend who has allowed me to use their OC for this story. :3
A/N: Apologies if thereâs any errors with the French words that are written throughout this story. Although I do not speak French (kinda wish I did) I did my absolute best translating some words and phrases so forgive me if theyâre not all correct.
A rather eventful week had occurred for Dr. Travis Blanche and the batch of anomalous kids he had saved. In actuality, the last six months have been nothing but eventful, but not as much as the previous week that took place. So much had happened in the span of one week; teaming up with the SCP Foundationâa place he was told and believed was the enemyâto rescue a group of anomalous children he once took care of who were being physically altered and bid to be used as living weapons.
Despite the many setbacks and near casualties, in the end, Travis and the Foundation had successfully managed to rescue the kids and shut down the evil Foundation for good. Everyone who was a part of that operation were already taken into custody and being dealt with, courtesy of the Foundation. It seemed everything was going to be okay finally, but unfortunately, that wasnât the case for someone in particular.
That night, one of the MTF squadron captains, Captain Simon Fisher, had been casually strolling down the hallways in the middle of his evening patrol, when he noticed light coming from one of the lounge rooms up ahead. Thatâs odd, he thought. Who could be up at this late hour?
Curious, he cautiously peeked inside the doorway and his eyes widened when he saw their newest Foundation member, Travis, was the one awake. He was sitting alone at the lounge table, listening to his Walkman, and clutching a mug of steaming tea with an exhausted and nervous look on his face.
How long has he been up like this? Simon wondered. Is he not happy to be here after everything that happened? He hoped not. After all the crazy things that everyone had been through, the SCP Foundation had graciously offered a permanent sanctuary for Travis and the children he helped save. Although Travis was skeptical about having the kids stay in containment chambers as SCPs, everyone assured him that the kids would all be treated with care, given proper housing and food, and would no way ever be abused like they were before. They even offered Travis a dorm room to stay in at the Foundation site so he could still be close to the kids and see them whenever he pleased.
That seemed to calm his overprotective nerves, but the young scientist still had trouble fully relaxing. It was obvious he was still traumatized after everything they went through. Despite being safe at the Foundation, Travis couldnât put his overthinking mind to rest. What if the evil Foundation wasnât defeated entirely? What if they still had another secret base somewhere that they didnât know about? What if they had more anomalous children hidden underground? What if they would eventually find out where he was?!
Travis clutched his mug tighter, shaking his head. He just couldnât shake off the fear. He knew from his previous time with these people that they had such volatility. He often compared them to the Galactic Empire from Star Wars; that evil foundation was able to bounce back from scratch like the second Death Star being built. He worried for himself, the kids especially. He would never want to break his promise and put them in any sort of danger again.
In an attempt to calm his anxious mind, Travis tried making himself some maple tea while listening to his Walkman. It was usually a good remedy whenever he couldnât sleep, except tonight it didnât seem to be working. He kept taking sips of the hot liquid, but couldnât taste a thing. His mind just could not stop racing.
Agent Fisher could not bear to watch the poor scientist like this. It was so heartbreaking to witness. Travis deserved a break, just like those kids deserved a proper home and childhood. But even here, in the safety of the SCP Foundation site, he was still scared. And the officer couldnât blame him. The poor guy probably thought the evil foundation was going to jump through the walls at any moment and harm him. After suffering in that cruel environment for so long, who wouldnât still be scarred?
But at the same time, everyone hoped that Travis could learn to relax a little at the site now that he was safe. The kids has already settled in their new rooms just fine, happy to call the SCP Foundation their new home. If only Travis felt like doing the same sameâŠ
Not wanting the poor sleep deprived scientist to suffer any longer, Simon walked into the lounge room and waved to get Blancheâs attention. Travis jumped, startled, but his body relaxed when he saw a familiar face. Pulling off his headphones, Travis forced a smile on his face. âOh, good evening, Captain Fisher, sir.â
âHm, good morning is more like it,â Simon stated back, gesturing to the clock on the wall. âItâs 3:30 in the morning. Why are you still up?â
âWhy are you up?â Travis countered back.
Simon quirked a brow. âBecause Iâm in the middle of my night shift,â he replied as-a-matter-of-factly. âBut seriously, is something wrong, Dr. Blanche? I thought you had retired to bed along with the kids hours ago.â
Travis weakly chuckled. âFirst of all, no need to address me as Doctor all the time. Just Travis is fine.â Simon nodded understandingly. âSecond,â Travis shrugged with a sigh. âCanât sleep, I guess. IâŠguess I am still shaken up after everything that happened recently. I still have nightmares; nightmares ofâŠthem. Of what they d-did to meâŠto the kids..!â He heaved a shaky sigh. âI donât know, I justâcanât seem to erase that from my mind. A part of me is still afraid that theyâre still out there, waiting to come after m-me and the kids..!â
Travis quickly turned his head away as tears were threatening to spill from his eyes. He cursed himself for getting so emotional so quickly. He hated crying in front of others. But Simon didnât mind. He rested a delicate hand on the scientistâs shoulder, squeezing affectionately. Travis turned around, meeting Agent Fisherâs warm eyes.
His smile was comforting and his voice was gentle. âHey, I get what youâre going through. I really do. None of us here are expecting you, nor the kids, to get over what happened to you all so quickly. Thatâs traumatizing, and thatâs not something you can simply get over overnight.â He squeezed Blancheâs shoulder once more. âBut, know this: you do not have to carry this burden alone like you did before. Youâre safe here, and you know we would never let anything happen to you guys. Youâve got to believe that.â
Travis nodded softly. âI know. I know you all mean well, and I am so very grateful for you all to let us stay hereâŠeven after everything beforeâŠâ
âHey, whatâs past is past, kid. Donât beat yourself up over it.â
âThank you. IâŠjust wish I could stop having these nightmares. These people are defeated and yet it still seems like they torment me.â Travis groaned and rested his head against the table. âThatâs why Iâve been listening to my music and drinking some maple tea. Itâs usually a good remedy when I have trouble getting to sleep, but tonight itâs not as effective.â He sighed miserably. âI suppose I just wonât sleep tonight. But thatâs alrightâŠIâm sure I can busy myself for the remainder of the night by working on one of my unfinished projects. Maybe that will tire me out.â
Simon couldnât believe what he just heard. Travis was really willing to work himself to exhaustion because of his nightmares? He pitied for the poor scientist. But what else could he do? His words didnât seem to help.
And then suddenly, it clicked. âSCP-999!â He suddenly blurted his thought out loud.
âHuh?â Travis tilted his head.
Simon cleared his throat. âI meant to ask this earlier, butâŠhave you had the chance to interact with SCP-999 yet? Or at least read its file?â
âActually, no. I assumed since I am new here, I don't get to read any of the files you have for these SCPs like library books."
The agent chuckled. âYes, well, thereâs certain files that are classified for good reasons. But thereâs files that newbies like you can read, like SCP-999âs file, for example.â He paused. âFunnily enough, the kids got to interact with 999 the other day and they loved it! They even requested another session with 999 as soon as possible,â he added, as if he thought that would convince Dr. Blanche.
Travisâ heterochromatic eyes lit up, intrigued. âOh, really now? Iâm assuming itâs a safe anomaly then?â
Simon nodded. âOh, of course. One of the safest and harmless anomalies on this site. In fact, 999 is more than just a safe class anomaly. Itâs actually therapeutic; simply touching 999 can bring immediate euphoria that intensifies the longer you are exposed to it. Heck, the euphoria lasts long after separation from the anomaly. Everyone here, myself included, has had at least one encounter with SCP-999, and itâs helped us all greatly when we were struggling mentally. I really think you would benefit from one visit with 999.â
Travis seemed hesitant and unsure. âUhhâŠwellâŠI-Iâm not sure.â
Simon gave him an encouraging smile. âCâmon Travis. I really think this would do you good. SCP-999 loves all people, but has a special interest in those who are hurt, depressed, or suffering from PTSD. Itâs no wonder why it wanted to interact with the kiddos immediately when they arrived here. And I know it will want to interact with you, too. Let 999 help you, TravisâŠJust this once? If you like it, you like it. And if you donât, thatâs okay, too. Although I find it damn impossible that anyone would be able to say they disliked their encounter with 999.â He chuckled again. âWhat do ya say?â
Travis gave in with a sigh. âOh, all right. Just hurry up before I change my mind.â Simon nodded, taking Blanche by the hand and leading him out into the hallway.
A therapeutic anomaly that seems to cure depression and trauma? Well, Iâm not at the evil foundation anymore, Travis joked to himself. If the kids enjoyed their encounter with this SCP-999 then maybe I will, too? Fisher would never lie to me. Could this anomaly really help me with my nightmares and PTSD? I guess weâll see. *sigh* Whatever, just get this over with quickly. Whatâs the worst that can happen?
âHere we are.â Simonâs voice abruptly snapped Travis out of his thoughts. They had arrived at SCP-999âs containment chamber. While the agent stepped aside to quietly have a word with the security officers and another researcher over comm. link, (no doubt requesting permission to allow him to see 999 at this hour) Travis suddenly grew nervous.
Despite being told that 999 was a safe class anomaly, the thought of meeting an entirely new anomaly that he knew nothing about was enough to make him anxious. Normally, he liked to know at least a little bit of background of an anomaly before he charged headfirst into interacting with it. Now he was really starting to regret not taking the time to read more on 999âs file before coming here. But he had nothing to worry about, right? If the kids said that they had fun with this creature, then he would trust their judgement.
He was snapped out of his thoughts again when Simon handed him a top tab office folder. âWhatâs this?â
Simon smiled apologetically. âThe entire information file for SCP-999. I should have given this to you first so you could read it over. But you can still read it when youâre inside 999âs chambers. Yâknow, learn along the way.â He winked, smiling.
Travis blinked. He could have sworn he detected something sinister in Fisherâs tone when he said that. Like he knew something that he didnât yet. Did he set him up?
âWell, go ahead,â Simon urged. âGo cure that trauma. Weâll be right outside monitoring everything in case you need us, but youâll be fine.â He and the other security guards seemed to be stifling back laughs. Travis frowned. They were definitely setting him up for something. Why couldnât they just tell him what it was already? After spending so much time at the previous evil foundation, he grew to hate surprises. Even good ones because in the end, they never turned out to be good.
As Travis stepped through the doorway, Simon quickly added, âOh, and donât forget to read that file! Better read it quick!â
Travis shot him an incredulous look, but opened the file nonetheless. Alright letâs seeâŠItem #: SCP-999. Object Class: SafeâŠSpecial Containment ProceduresâŠyada yadaâŠFile NameâŠwait WHAT?! The Canadian scientistâs heart skipped several beats. File Name: The Tickle Monster.
He quickly spun around, locking eyes with Agent Fisher, who merely just waved with a smile that said âsorry not sorryâ before shutting the door.
This was a setup! He had been duped! Bamboozled! âFisher!â Travis growled, banging on the door. âYou set me up! YouâŠYou mother-honking HOSER!â
Okay, okay. Donât freak out. ThisâŠThis has gotta be some kind of blizzard joke, right?
Travis didnât know why, but something about reading that file name quickened his pulse and made anticipatory butterflies fill his belly. Something he hadnât felt in such a long time. He was flustered.
His train of thought was interrupted when the sound of high-pitched gurgling sounded behind him. He whipped around, his blue and green eyes widening at what was in front of him: a large, gelatinous blob of orange slime with big black orbs for eyes that seemed to shimmer like puppy eyes. Travis didnât know what to think. This was supposed to be the siteâs so-called âTickle Monsterâ? It certainly didnât look like anything he had pictured. But he knew from experience that looks can be deceiving; something so innocent-looking could be extremely dangerous.
âUmâŠh-hello there,â Travis shyly waved to the anomaly. The creature happily chirped, and slithered towards the young scientist. Travis gasped and backed away until his back hit the wall. SCP-999 emitted a confused gurgle and stopped in its tracks. It suddenly seemed concerned from Travisâ reaction.
Taken back, Travis tilted his head and was surprised when the orange creature mimicked his movement. Curious, he tilted his head to the other side, and it copied his movement. Travis blinked twice, and 999 also blinked twice. Feeling a little more relaxed, Travis knelt down to its eye level. âHuh. Well, youâre quite the precocious little anomaly, arenât you?â 999 let out a happy coo. âYou know, Iâve never encountered an anomaly like you before. I was actually told by Agent Fisher that you could help me with my recent nightmares and PTSD?â 999 perked up, bobbing its gelatinous dome head up and down like jello. âI take that as a yes then? Soâoh?â
999 slithered closer to the scientist, extending a pair of orange pseudopods and wrapping them around his neck. Emitting cooing and purring noises, the anomaly leaned close to nuzzle against the young manâs chest. Immediately, Travis was hit with a wave of mild euphoria, just like Fisher had said. But that was not all. Travis also detected something on 999âs gelatinous surface; there was a pleasant odor. It smelled likeâŠfresh pine trees from the forests of his hometown in Canada. Along with the scent of freshly baked chocolate cake from Tim Hortonâs, his favorite dessert.
Travis felt like crying, but they were happy tears. All this comfort and nostalgic scents this anomaly was giving him was unlike anything he ever felt before. He let out a shaky sigh, allowing his body to fully relax and melt against the warm embrace. 999 simply took that as its cue to continue nuzzling Travis like a kitten, all the while continuing to purr and coo lovingly.
It wasnât until he felt 999âs orange tendrils suddenly tighten around his torso that he started to feel nervous. âSacrĂ© bleu!â He exclaimed. âI uh, heh, almost forgot the other thing that makes you so infamous hereâŠNow Iâm starting to see why Agent Fisher set me up with this littleâŠplay date,â he muttered that last part under his breath.
999 simply chirped and glomped the scientist, ready to engage in one of its favorite activities it was best known for: tickle wrestling. Travis, already anticipating the oncoming attack, let anticipatory fear get the best of him and managed to wriggle out of the creatureâs near death grip. Giggling breathily, he stood up on shaky knees to try and escape. Except there was nowhere else to go. He was trapped in a containment chamber with a very playful anomaly that look like it wanted to tickle the ever living daylights out of him.
With a wobbly smile already visible on his face, Travis shakily tried to make a run for it. 999 excitedly chirped, thinking Travis wanted to play chase! It gurgled enthusiastically, beginning to chase after the flustered scientist who, in return, bolted away.
Outside the containment chamber, Agent Fisher and the other security officers were laughing at the cartoon spectacle from their security tablets: Dr. Blanche running laps around the room while SCP-999 followed close behind, trying to grab him with his pseudopods.
âOh mon dieu! Mon dieu! N-No! Donât! Donât you dare!â Travis exclaimed behind him. He heard the creature emit a series of chirps, but he couldâve sworn it sounded like it was taunting him; laughing at him.
He suddenly heard Simonâs voice from the overhead speakers. âCâmon, Blanche! We brought you here to interact with 999, not to run away from it!âïżŒ
âFirstly, you never said anything about this anomaly being a Tickle Monster!â Travis shot back as he did another lap around the room. âAnd second! I am not letting said monsterâŠwellâŠtickle me..!â
âAnd why not? You wouldnât happen to beâŠticklish, would you~?â
The blush on Travisâs face said it all, yet he still denied it. âN-No..! Iâm not!â
âThen quit trying to escape if youâre not ticklish.â
Ohhh how Travis so desperately wanted to make Agent Fisher eat those words. He knew he couldnât keep running in circles forever; he was already sleep deprived and was losing strength in his knees. Cursed his flustered state. Itâs not that he didnât want to be tickled, he didnât know if he was ticklish in the first place. Up to this point in his life, he couldnât recall a time where he had ever been tickled. And now, getting a chance to experience it for the first time, he was trying to avoid it. But yet at the same time, he secretly wanted it to happen. He wanted to experience that silly, uncontrollable feeling that he recalled reading about during his early days of becoming a doctor. Unfortunately, his fight-or-flight instincts got the best of him.
He didnât have time to debate it any further because he yelped in surprise when something suddenly wrapped around his ankle, tripping him. Whipping his head around, he saw 999 had one orange tendril wrapped around his ankle like a lasso. It chirped and tittered as if to say, âgot you!â, and proceeded to envelope its victimâs boot and calf into its gelatinous body.
Travis yelped again in alarm at the feeling of feeling his lower leg being swallowed by this orange slime anomaly. He grimaced. This creature wasnât seriously planning on eating him instead, was it? His question was immediately answered when his knee was engulfed in the slime trap next. Instead of feeling a row of hidden razor, sharp teeth tear into his flesh, he felt something entirely different; as soon as the orange slime touched his knee, Travis felt a fluttery almost feather-like feeling, followed by a growing bubbling sensation in the pit of his stomach. The urge to laugh.
Quâest-ce que câest?! Is this really what being tickled feels like?
Reflexively, Travis began kicking out his trapped leg, trying to free it. Except he couldnât. He was taken back at how strong 999âs grip was. No matter how much he twisted and yanked and pulled on his leg, he couldnât break free. 999 simply cooed a response, no doubt teasing about how he wasnât going anywhere.
Kicking his way out wasnât going to work. In fact, it only seemed to make the situation worse because the fluttery feeling around his knee simply increased. It spread behind his knee and even squeezed around his knee joint, making him reflexively kick out his other leg that was free. He was worried at first if all his uncontrollable kicking would hurt the anomaly; he didnât want to accidentally kick 999 in its eye or mouth and hurt it. Fortunately, his kicks didnât seem to harm the anomaly in any way. Its orange slimy surface seemed to absorb any blows it received, seeming to be indestructible.
Travis stubbornly clapped a hand over his mouth, refusing to crack. Blush was already starting to reach the tips of his ears. Could this get any worse?
Apparently, it could.
999 right away noticed the stubborn scientist trying to muffle his laughs as well as his fruitless attempts at trying to escape on his one free leg. So it simply caught his other flailing leg in its slime, swallowing it, too. It wasted no time and began tickling behind and around the scientistâs knees.
Travis couldnât hold it back any longer. Having his other leg held into place and subjected to the same tickly feeling behind his knee ultimately made him crack.
âKkthpbblt..! âŠMmHHHmhmhEEAAAhehahaha! W-Wahahait! Nohohoho!â
âWell, that certainly didnât take as long as I thought,â Simonâs voice cut in over the speakers again. âI thought it would take longer for you to crack around SCP-999, but it looks like it doesnât take more than a minute. Good to know!â
âOhoho shuhuhut uhuhuhup!â Travis pressed through giggles. He hated to admit it, but he was really hoping he would be able to outlast 999âs playful attack. This just proved he really was a super ticklish person. He just hoped the kids would never find out about thisâŠ
999, pleased that its victims was finally laughing, decided to continue and increase the ticklish feeling. Still keeping the scientistâs legs in place, it suddenly leapt on top of him, tickling all over his torso with its tendrils.
Travis let out a rather girly shriek as he felt a weight suddenly on top of him. But that quickly switched to loud, bright laughter when he felt his entire torso being scribbled and poked erratically. There were tendrils squeezing and poking his sides, vibrating against his rib cage, tracing across his stomach, and even trying to slip under his arms. And all the while, his lab coat and purple dress shirt did nothing to protect his sensitive skin.
âWaHAAAHAHAIT! AAAH! HehehAAAHAHAHA! N-Nohoho! AAAAH! EEEHEHEHEEHEE! S-StAAAHAHAHAP! WHAAAA! Mon dieu! OH MON DIEU! OH MON DIEU! D-Donât you dahahahare!â
Travis frantically batted at 999âs dome head as he felt sneaky tendrils trying to untuck and unbutton his purple dress shirt. Ignoring his panicked request, 999 swiftly yanked up his shirt, undid the buttons, and pushed the fabric aside to expose the pale belly underneath.
999 immediately buried its face against the warm surface, nuzzling and nipping and extending two more tendrils to furiously dig under the doctorâs arms.
âNonononAAAAAAHAHAHAHAO!! ARRĂTER! ARRĂTER! A-ARRĂHEEHEEHEETER!! NAAAAHEEEEHEEHEEHEE!! NAHAHAHAO PLEAHEEHEEHEEHEEHEASE!!â
Travis screeched and squealed, trying to twist away from this evil tickle attack but it was no use. 999âs grip was like a boa constrictorâs. And it made sure he couldnât escape because any attempt he made, resulted in the creature mercilessly tickling another bad spot he didnât know about.
The tickly nibbles on his belly made him want to reflexively curl and protect that spot, but the second he tried to curl inward or on his side, 999 immediately dug and vibrated against his spine, forcing him to uncurl once again.
âEEEEHEEHEHEEEEEK!! STAAAAHEEHEEHEE!! Sâil vous plaĂźt! StAAHAhap doihihing thahahat!â Travis giggle-whined as 999 made him uncurl again. âThahahatâs soho nohohot fahahahair!â
999 simply tittered at his response, clearly enjoying the playful suffering it was putting the young scientist through. But it wanted to hear more of his sweet, childlike laughter.
So it inched its face higher so it could bury its face against his neck. Travis let out another high-pitched squeal when the side of his neck was attacked with tickly nibbles. Even 999 simply purring against his neck tickled just as bad.
âEEEEEEHEEHEEHEEEEEK!! NAAAAHEEHEHEEHEE!! NOHOHO PLEAHEHEEHEEHEASE!!â
He tried scrunching up his shoulder to protect his sensitive neck, but that in turn made 999 nibble at the other side of his neck.
Travis gave up trying to protect his neck, settling for trying to guard his torso and underarms instead. The scientist tried to clamp his arms down while attempting to button his shirt back up. Or at least try to get it to cover his stomach once more.
But 999 noticed his attempts, and released his neck, diving back to tickle his belly again.
âWait! WAHAHAHAIT! NON! NOHOHON! NAHAHAT AGAAAHAHAHAIN! Sâil vous plaĂźt! SâIL VOUS PLAĂT! Go bAHAHACK to my neheheheck again!â
But 999 didnât listen. It came to the conclusion that this was clearly a bad spot for Travis, and that just encouraged it to stay here!
The poor flustered doctor frantically batted at 999âs head like an angry kitten, trying to get it anywhere else but his stomach. This couldnât possibly get any worse, could it?
One sneaky stray tendril brushing over his navel did it. Travis screeched and accidentally sucked in a breath too quick, he snorted. Even 999 paused its tickly assault to gurgle curiously and tilt its head like a confused puppy.
Blush consumed Travisâ entire face as he hid behind his hands, clearly embarrassed at the weird sound he just emitted. He never even knew could make such silly sounds like that.
Intrigued, 999 lightly brushed over the scientistâs bellybutton. Travis jolted like he had been electrocuted, emitting another muffled snort behind his hands. He frantically shook his head and babbled incoherently as he felt 999âs tendrils peel his hands away from his face, pinning them up next to his head.
âNonononononono! Oh mon dieu! Oh mon dieu! N-No! Donât..! Donât you dare! Donât! You! Dare!â
999 cheekily tittered, bringing the single tendril back to softly trace circles around his tummy, slowly inching towards his bellybutton.
âOh MON DIEU! NahaHAHAHAO!â Travis panicked as the tendril traced agonizing circles around the little spot, his tummy quivering madly. His stomach was tingling with so much anticipation; it felt like he just ate a swarm of live butterflies.
Travis tried curling up on his side and sucking in his stomach as much as he could to avoid that evil tendril, but his efforts were useless. 999 simply grabbed onto his hips, and straightened him back onto his back.
âWaitwaitwaitwaitwait! Je tâen prie! NO! D-Donât..!â Travis screamed like if he was being murdered before laughing his hardest as 999âs tendril plunged into his bellybutton and wiggled rapidly. âAAAAAAAHEHEHAAAAAAHAHAAAA!! OH MOHOHON DIEU!! *snort* NAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAO!! STAAAAAAâ*snort*âHAHAHAHAHAAAAAP!! NAAAHEEHEEHEEHEEAAAHAHAHA!!â
Ohhh how Travis hated all the involuntary snorts he kept emitting between hysterics. He wished he could stop, but these accursed snorts were like a dam; once broken, thereâs no stopping it. The poor doctorâs entire face was the color of a cherry tomato. His glasses were askew on his face from how much he was whipping his head from side to side. Tears were already threatening to spill from his tightly shut eyes. He was sure his sides were going to split any moment. But yet, despite all that, Travis was actually having fun. He was enjoying it.
He never recalled a time before this when he had genuinely laughed so hard. Well, maybe except that one time where he encountered his first cryptid, but did that really count? It was too short and too quick to even count it as a true experience. Here, being at the playful mercy of SCP-999, it felt different. Intense euphoria rushed through his entire body like adrenaline. In that moment, he couldnât think of anything else but the ticklish torment. No fear, no nightmares, no trauma, no memories of his dark past, no sadness. Just pure joy. And, of course, the unbearable tickly assault on his navel. So embarrassingâŠ
999 was very pleased that it was able to make Dr. Blanche make that funny, adorable snorting sound. It made him sound like a little piggy! Which 999 just couldnât seem to get enough of. But it knew it had to stop soon. So, to finish it off, 999 engulfed Travisâ entire torso in its slime, vigorously vibrating its surface; the equivalent of giving multiple big raspberries.
Travis just about died. To him, his entire torso was being assaulted from all angles by these evil raspberries. His sides, his ribs, just right below his underarms, his upper and lower stomach, his waistline, and his bellybutton all at once.
His laughter went silent for a moment before he snorted rather loudly, and laughed his absolute hardest. ââŠAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHEEHEHAHAHAAAAAA!! NAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!! *snort* NOHOHON!! NOHON SâIHIHIL VOUS PLAAAAAâHAHAHAâPLAIT!! *snort* STAAAAAAHAHAHAAAA!! *snort* NINE NIHIHINE NIIIIIHIHINE!! PLEEEEEAAHEEHEEâ*snort* JE TâEN PRIEâHEEHEEHEEHEEEEEE!! I-I CAHAHAHANâT TAHAHAKE IHIHIHIT ANYMORE!! *snort* JE TâEN PRIE!! JE T-TAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!! JE TâEN PRIE!! *snort* PLEAHEEHEEHEEHEEHEASE!! STAAAAAHAHAHAHAP!! NOHOHO MOHOHOHORE!!â
Hearing the desperate cry and feeling Ike he had had enough, 999 finally released Dr. Blanche. It sat next to him, quietly gurgling while waiting patiently for Travis to recover. Travis laid there motionless on the floor for several long minutes, panting heavily. His hair was a mess and his glasses were crooked on his forehead. He just wanted to get the air back into his lungs. 999 nudged and softly cooed at the scientist. It seemed like it wanted to check and see if he was okay.
Travis slowly sat up, clutching his sore stomach. He fixed his glasses before meeting 999âs concerned gaze, giving it a warm smile. âHey, donât feel bad. You stopped right when I needed you to. Itâs all good, okay? I actually feel a lot more better now thanks to you, 999.â 999 chirped happily, glomping the doctor in another tackle hug.
âAaah! SacrĂ© bleu! Non! Donât go starting this whole little chaotic game of yours again!â Travis nervously joked. As fun as that whole tickle game was, he didnât want to be the victim of another one again. At least, not right now.
999 tittered and slid down to cuddle in the scientistâs lap, purring like a cat. Travis chuckled and began buttoning his now wrinkled shirt back up. When that was done, he rested a delicate hand on top of 999âs head, who purred louder. Then, just to be cheeky once more, 999 tittered like a gremlin and shoved its head underneath the purple shirt. Travis let out a surprise squeal at the feeling of a purring mouth pressing threateningly against his bellybutton again. âN-NAAAhahao! Pleaheeheehease nohohot again! Misericorde! Misericorde!â
Fortunately, 999 took pity on the poor tired scientist and slithered out of his shirt. Travis let out a huge sigh of relief. He had to admit, despite being tickle tortured for what felt like an eternity, he was feeling a lot happier than he had ever been in a long time. It felt like the biggest weight had been lifted off his shoulders, and he could breathe again. His mind didnât feel so foggy with nightmares or visions of his past anymore. In fact, he couldnât even recall his nightmares or any other negative thoughts. He felt genuine euphoria and this mild feeling of optimism; that same optimism that any happy kid would have, like he was sure everything was going to be okay from now on.
âThank you, 999,â Travis whispered to the anomaly. âI mean it. You really helped me with something I never thought I would be able to let go. Thank you for that.â 999 beamed and happily gurgled as if to say âyouâre welcomeâ.
After all that laughing and screeching and squirming, and being sleep deprived, Travisâ remaining strength and energy had been sapped up. He couldnât stifle back the big yawns. He longed for the comfort of his bed, but was far too tired to even get up. Even his eyelids were starting to droop.
999 noticed how visibly exhausted the scientist looked so it carefully lifted and cradled him, carrying him to the door.
âAnnnd thatâs our cue that Dr. Blancheâs âplay dateâ with 999 has finally ended,â Simon stated, nodding to the personnel to fetch their sleepy victim.
âOkay, 999, hand him over. Weâll take it from here,â one of the guards spoke.
999 emitted a little whine and hugged Travis closer. Simon chuckled, knowing that reaction far too well. âDonât worry, 999. Youâll get your chance to play with Blanche again another time, okay? Right now, he really needs to get some sleep.â 999 cooed understandingly and released the doctor.
Simon helped Travis stand up, and assisted him back to his dorm room. He had to bite back another laugh because he honestly felt like he was lugging a drunk friend back home. âSoâŠdidnât I tell you this would be a great experience? Learn on the job, eh?â Simon joked.
Travis rolled his eyes, blush coating his cheeks again. âOh, shut up, ya hoser! Youâre a filthy, lyingâŠdip twit!â He tried to sound mean, but the smile on his face proved otherwise.
âAw, câmooon! No âthank you, Fisher, for making me experience my first meeting with the Tickle Monster?ââ
Travis sputtered and blushed harder. âStohohop saying that!â
Simon couldnât help but tease. âWhy? Is it the Tickle Mosnter part that gets you flustered or just hearing the word tickle?â
Travis giggle-whined, burying his face against the older agentâs shoulder. âStaaaaahahahap! JustâŠstohohop sahahaying thaaaat!â
âHaha! I knew it!â Simon laughed. âIt does fluster you! You just seem too adorable to be a researcher here.â He ruffled the younger scientistâs hair.
Travis giggled and batted at the otherâs hand before muttering something in French that sounded like cuss words.
âHey, hey, hey, watch the language,â Simon half-joked. âOr else Iâll throw you back into 999âs chambers and keep you there until tomorrow.â He poked him in the side. âGot that?â
Travis yelped and giggled once more. âUnderstood.â
âGood. Alright, well get some sleep, okay? Weâll be here for you tomorrow when you wake up, but no rush in getting up early. Sleep in if youâd like. You and the kids are going to need to fix that awful sleep schedule of yours, and it starts with getting proper rest.â Simon smiled and gave Blanche one last hair ruffle. âSleep tight, kid.â
Travis sleepily smiled. âThank you, sir. Good night to you as well. AndâŠthank youâŠfor everything. I never would have gotten through this without you and 999âs help.â He paused with a shy smile. âEspecially 999âs.â
âAnytime, kid. Good night.â
âGood night.â Travis let out a happy sigh as soon as he closed his dorm door. âWowâŠwhat a night!â He said to himself. âBut at least I donât have to worry about any nightmares anymore. Hopefully. And if not, then Iâm sure I can go to 999 againâŠright? Oh mon dieu, whyyyy am I actually thinking about going back and willingly allowing 999 toâŠtorture me again?! Geez! Now Iâm getting all fluttery thinking about it!â
That fluttery butterfly feeling in his stomach came back at the mere thought of getting tickled by 999 again. He blushed when he remembered how Simon set him up with 999 earlier. Then his blush darkened when he realized that Simon and the other guards now knew of his silly weakness from watching him on the security footage. And all of the embarrassing sounds he could make when tickled in certain spots. Ohhh so embarrassing!
Travis just hoped that Simon and the others would keep their mouths shut and not mention this to anyone, especially to the kids. They didnât need to know about this. If anyone found out, he would never live it down.
Shaking the thought off, Travis changed out of his work clothes. He slipped on a baggy black shirt that read: Area 51 Escapee in bright green lettering, and a pair of light gray pajama pants with UFOs on them. Then, he tossed his worn clothes into a heap by his bed before crawling into bed. He snuggled under the covers with a happy sigh.
Things were definitely going to be different from now on with him and the kids now joining the SCP Foundation family. But they were in a better place now, and they were free. They could finally be happy and together like the found family they always wanted to be. Granted, they were a very strange, albeit dangerous-looking family, but they were a family regardless.
Travis closed his eyes with a smile, dreaming about what games he was going to play with the kids tomorrow as soon as they all woke up.
THE END

Jealous Blanche Devereaux Would Include
Blancheâs jealousy stems from her desire to always be the center of your attention.
Whenever she sees you alone with someone else, her mind can run wild with scenarios of possible infidelity, even though she really does know better.
Though she pretends not to be jealous in front of you, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia can all see it clearly.
If she feels particularly slighted, she may give you the cold shoulder, hoping youâll come crawling back to her, begging her forgiveness, even if it was nothing more than a misunderstanding.
She usually gets more jealous if youâve been spending time with someone younger, or someone she thinks you find more attractive than her.
Expect her to start dressing more provocatively, vying for your attention and admiration, yet still keeping you at a distance.
At the end of the day, Blanche just wants to know sheâs still desirable to you. If you reassure her of that, her jealousy will fade.

Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6 | Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9 | Chapter 10: Discussions
------
Titanâs study seemed to be darker than it had ever been before, the Kingâs mood leaking into the surrounding environment. Trenchâs unease was well hidden on his face, but it was still there, and he exchanged a worried look with X20 as Titan sat in front of them with his eyes closed, chin on his clasped hands as he mulled over their failures of the day.
Finally, his eyes opened, and he regarded them both with a disappointed stare. âX20. You should be glad that you removed any and all information about the plan from Lemoy. That is your only saving grace. How could they have escaped, you idiot?â Titan hissed, expecting an answer.
âW-Well, IâŠâ When X20 couldnât answer, Titan regarded him with a cold look. His attention was on his once arch-enemy in a second.
âAnd you.â He began. Troy had to hide the shivers that went up his spine. âI gave you a chance to make things right. And yet, even after how she betrayed you when you needed her, you hesitated,â he mentally counted how many times his Captain failed to land the final strike, âfive times.â Titan huffed. âThatâs five times too many, Tempest.â
X20 blanched at the use of the Captainâs real name, looking over at the human, shame at having forgotten to take out that stupid key forgotten. He watched Troy with concealed sympathy. Troy frowned, but seemed to take it in his stride. âSire, all I can do is apologise. I thought I was ready to face her in battle, and I wasnâtâŠâ
Titan huffed after a while, standing up. âI understand the land-dwellers were once your friends, but they are now your enemies. I expect you to treat them as such.â He folded his arms behind his back as he circled the two of them. X20 was instantly reminded of a barracuda circling its prey. âIf either of you fail me again, you will pay for it. Do you understand?â
âYes, sire.â
âYes, O Titan.â
âGood. Now get out of my sightâŠâ Neither of them needed telling twice. They were out of there in a shot.
------
Atlanta placed her dinner next to where Phones and Fisher were sitting in the cafeteria with a sigh. It had been a week since the Battle of Pacifica, and theyâd heard nothing from Titanica. Phones gave her a look as he chewed. He swallowed his mouthful, hoping to strike up a conversation with her. âHey Atlanta.â He started.
âHey.â She replied halfheartedly.
âHowâs your day been so far?â Atlanta grimaced. âThat frantic, huh?â
His friend let out a snort of amusement. âNo, not like that. If anything itâs been the opposite.â
Fisher poked at his food. âQuiet, huh?â
âToo quietâŠâ Atlanta agreed, picking up her fork as Marina sat opposite the human trio. âEspecially after what happened in Pacifica.â She sighed. âI donât like how uneventful things have been.â
Fisher shrugged. âWell, they lost, which I doubt was the plan. Bet they werenât banking on Marina being so hardcore.â The young Lieutenant gave the mermaid a grin, and she blushed a light green at the praise. âTheyâre gonna have to adjust for it.â
âI supposeâŠâ Atlanta smiled softly in Fisherâs direction. He had a point. Marinaâs hand signals caught her eye. âWhatâs up Mari?â
The mermaid made a series of gestures, asking for a time to talk to Commander Shore.
âOf course I can get Dad to talk to you. Heâd never say no to you⊠But,â Atlanta raised an eyebrow, âwhat is this about?â
Marina made more hand signals. Phones eyes widened.
âItâs about your fight with Troy?â Marina nodded at the question. Phones hummed. âOkay. The Commander will wanna hear it, and so will we.â
------
The knock on the door was a surprise, his mask slipped on in a flash, even though he knew it could only really be one person. âCome in.â Sure enough, in stepped X20, carrying a brown paper bag in with him. âWhat brings you here, X20? Shouldnât you be out gathering information in Marineville?â Troy took off the mask mid-sentence, eyebrow raised at his subordinate. If Titan ever found out the surface agent was here and not in the field-
âI returned here to report to his majesty about my missionâs progress in person. Iâve got a few marine hours before Iâm due to leave Titanica.â X20 admitted in that nasally voice of his. Surprisingly, it didnât annoy the former WASP as much as it used to. âThought you might want some company while youâre working. I believe your kind call it âsocialisingâ...â The surface agent frowned slightly, sceptical. Making friends had never been the Titanican way, so it didnât come as naturally to X20 as it did Troy, but he was determined to make this work. Heâd been so lonely even before serving Titan, and humans had always praised the benefits of calling someone a friend. Maybe, just maybe, heâd be able to experience that for once.
Troy hummed. âWe do.â He looked at the overwhelming stack of reports he had to deal with. Having someone to talk to had always made work fly by for him. He missed that. He missed it a lot⊠âWhat harm could it do?â At his superiorâs invitation, X20 sat down, pulling out a couple of items out of the bag. Troyâs eyes widened. âWhere did you get these?â
X20 placed them in front of the Captain. âI heard they were your favourites back on the surface, before you joined us.â The soft drinks seemed to shine in the fading light of the office. Above the waves, X20 knew the sun was setting, signalling the end of the day. It wouldnât be the end of it for King Titanâs right and left-hand men, however. âYou must be pretty sick of seawater and algae by now. Iâve also heard getting gifts for someone is the best way to start a friendship, but Iâm not sure what to do nowâŠâ The agent admitted.
Troy offered him a genuine smile, something he felt he hadnât done in a long time. âNowâŠâ Troy started, more than happy to give X20 some guidance here. âNow we talk about what we like, what we donât like. We share funny stories from our past and what we want to do in the future. We-â He cut himself off as the images of Atlanta, and then Phones, flashed through his mind. Before X20 could say anything about his sudden silence, he pushed the thought of his former friend and girlfriend to the side. âWe talk about fears and uncertainties. We get to really know the people weâre with, as if theyâre our blood family.â
âI see.â X20 grinned in understanding. âSo, where should we start?â
Troy rubbed his chin in thought. âWell, you already know what my favourite drink is,â he gestured to the cans on his desk, âso, what would you say your favourite is?â
In the end, they ended up talking for a couple of hours, only stopping when an aquaphibian interrupted them to find X20. Their time was up. It was time for the surface agent to return to his mission on the surface. Troy sighed when everyone was out of earshot, his thoughts drifting once more towards Atlanta. It had been surprisingly easy to talk to X20, but it had been even easier to talk to her.Â
Throughout years of building up their relationship, of sharing everything, theyâd finally gotten to a point where Troy couldnât have imagined a life without her. Heâd even gotten a ring for her to offer her. To ask her to spend the rest of her life with him. But Titan had taken him in before he could ask, and his love for her was called into question. Did he even still love her anymore?Â
There was no way heâd give himself back to the WASPs. But was there a way to convince the woman he loved to join the Titanican cause? He shook his head almost as soon as the thought appeared. Atlantaâs feelings for him were strong, once upon a time, but her love for her father was most definitely stronger at the moment.
Defeated, he took one last look at the ocean out of the window, the vast waters beyond the city now completely black. He stood up, sliding his mask back on. He had a few checks to make before calling it a night.
------
Commander Shore was the first to speak. âTroy was hesitating?â The control room was silent upon Marinaâs reveal. From the outside, it wouldâve looked as if he just kept missing his mark, but the mermaid knew him too well than to believe that. âYouâre certain?â Marina nodded, determined.Â
âI knew itâŠâ Phones muttered. âI knew thereâd be a way to get through to him!â
Fisher grinned. âYeah, heâd never want to hurt us, no matter what side heâs on.â
âHold on.â Shore held up his hands, signalling a time-out. âI already know what youâre thinking, and itâs out of the question.â Phones froze. âYouâre not going to Titanica to try and convince Troy to come home.â Shore frowned, offering the Lieutenant a sympathetic look. âIâm sorry. But itâs too dangerous.â
âBut Commander,â Fisher began, âthis may be our best chance. If Troyâs having doubts, heâs more likely to listen to us.â
The Commander sighed. âIâm well aware. But the Titanican attack on Pacifica was costly, even if we did win. Too many crews are gravely wounded.â His previously sharp gaze drooped as his mind drifted to the officers who had lost their lives that day. His companions were similarly subdued. âOr worseâŠâ He locked eyes with Phones, who looked back at him sadly. âWeâre weakened while theyâre recovering. Stingray will remain on standby until then. Thatâs-â
âSir, please donât say it.â Fisher cut him off hurriedly.Â
âThatâs an order.â Everyone gave him a look. âOh, donât give me that.â He subtly rolled his eyes. He swore up and down he didnât just have one child sometimes. âYou all know Iâm right. Now, you all better get to bed. Itâs late.â
âCommander!â The frantic voice of one of the cadets floated through the doors. âNews from Patrol Vessel Number 33!â Everyone looked at the young woman, curious. âThey have captured a Titanican vessel just a few miles west of the beach. And they have a prisoner.â
Commander Shore raised an eyebrow. âI can tell thereâs something particularly special about this prisonerâŠâ He smirked when the cadet nodded. âWell, speak up soldier! Whoâs the lone soul whoâll have to deal with WASP interrogation first thing tomorrow?â
âItâs Surface Agent X20, sirâŠâ

Mrs. Butlerâs Chicken and Chives Petits Bateaux
ââWonderful food,â said Dr. MacMillan. âWhatâs in that little pastry thing?â âMince cooked chicken with sauce blanche and chives,â Phryne replied. âHave another.â âI shall,â said Dr. MacMillan, and did.â
A couple of weeks ago, when Ava was here and before she left, we celebrated our six-months anniversary. And because we had spent slow mornings in bed or long picnics by the water reading Murder and Mendelssohn to one another, it seemed fitting we had a bit of the French Feast Mrs. Butler and Ruth cooked for Phryne Fisher and her medical friends! Whilst I was imitating that cordon-bleu in the kitchen, Ava lit candles and set the entertainment for the night in the living room. A film starring Charlize Theron --how my girl knows me!-- mostly set in the AnnĂ©es Folles Paris (1920s-1930s)! Delightful women (Penelope Cruz was also in the film!), delicious wine, delectable company, and Mrs. Butlerâs Chicken and Chives Petits Bateaux, indeed wonderful; this was a splendid night!
Ingredients (makes 8):
230 grams/8 ounces Pùte Brisée (Water Shortcrust Pastry)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons plain flour
1/4 cup dry white wine (like a light, fuity, tangy CĂŽtes de Gascogne)
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon fleur de sel or sea salt flakes
1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
a small bunch Garden Chives
140 grams/5 ounces leftover Roast Cockerel, bones removed (you can also actually use leftover Roast Chicken, but I fancy Mrs. B would prefer the juicier meat of the little cockerel!)
2 heaped tablespoons crĂšme fraĂźche or sour cream
Preheat oven to 200°C/395°F. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Roll Pùte Brisée out onto a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Divide Pùte Brisée rectangle into 8 rectangles of roughly the same size. Pinch both ends of each Pùte Brisée rectangle to form a little boat, lifting the edges a bit. Place onto prepared baking tray, and repeat until you have eight. Prick the bottom of the boats with a fork.
Place in the middle of the hot oven, and bake, 15 minutes at 200°C/395°F.
Remove from the oven and let the pastry boats cool completely.
In a large saucepan over a medium flame, melt butter.
Once the butter is just foaming, remove from the heat, and add the flour all at once. Stir well, and return over the heat. Cook out, 1 minute.Â
Deglaze with CĂŽtes de Gascogne, and gradually stir in milk until well-blended and smooth. Reduce heat to low, and cook, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until the sauce thickens and coats the spoon.
Season with fleur de sel and black pepper.
Finely chop Garden Chives, and stir them into the béchamel.
Cut leftover Lemon Roast Cockerel into small but decent pieces, and gently fold into the chives béchamel.
Remove from the heat and stir in crĂšme fraiche.
Allow mixture to cool slightly or completely, depending whether you want to serve the petits bateaux warm or cold.
Heap a tablespoonful of cockerel in chives béchamel sauce onto each pastry boat.
Chop a little more Chives, and sprinkle them on top.
Serve Mrs. Butlerâs Chicken and Chives Petits Bateaux with a crisp lettuce, and an equally crisp, well-chilled white wine like a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc your girlfriend brought from Aotearoa...

15. Trust me now
After the measured steps of court and the poised performance of regality, after the thousand different demands on attention and time, the king and queen at last retired to their private rooms.
It was the first private moment theyâd found since Arthurâs return from Joyous Gard, visiting the long-abroad Lancelot. Gwenhwyfar sensed something weighing on her husbandâs shoulders since first he gave her formal greeting in the great hall, something more than the usual weight of crown and kingship.
Yet she was skilled in patience. She poured them each a cup of wine whilst he sank into a cushioned seat. The mask of court drained away from his expression, leaving behind a deep weariness and something⊠haunted.
She joined him in silence. The wordlessness stretched on between them. She gazed upon him, and he stared into the middle distance.
âLancelot⊠his body is hale and whole,â Arthur spoke at long last. âHis spirit, though⊠Gwen, he is not well.â
Her hand found his. âWhat ails him?â
The king hesitated, groping for words. âHeâŠâ A deep breath, and the story stumbled out of him all at once. âHe rescued the daughter of the Fisher King of Corbenic from dire circumstances. And in return, she caused his wine to be drugged, and she came to him wearing your face.â
A sharp involuntary gasp. Her heart sank nigh to her stomach, like a stone into a quagmire.
âShe claims a child arose from that⊠union,â and his mouth twisted on the word, âsuch as it was. HeâŠâ Arthur swallowed down the rest. His hand clenched tight in her grip.
âArther, beloved.â She knew her face was moonlight-pale in the dimness of the room. âDo not veil the whole of it from me, I implore you. I would know, even if it sickens the heart.â
âSome of it is Lancelotâs to tell, not mine, and I would not betray him so. Yet he told me he would wed her, should I wish it.â The muscles in his jaw jumped visibly with gritting teeth. Gwen kissed him there to soothe the tension.
âI told him I would rather command him to never wed her, nor to see her again.â A sigh. âIt is a great wound of his spirit and his mind. He is overcome with shame and an unearned guilt. Terrible dreams disturb his sleep in a way I have never seen before.â Arthurâs voice was so low and quiet that Gwen had to strain to hear. âHe is very unwell, and I know not how to aid him. He fears we might spurn him. He longs to see you, yet fears how he will feel if he sees your face, after being so ill-used by another in your guise.â
âOh, my loves.â Her throat tightened with sorrow. âCall him home to us, Arthur. Let him be by our side to be reminded of the truth of our love for him. Send him not on another quest, but let him rest.â
âHe begged me to send him far away,â Arther said hollowly. âOur proud knight fell to his knees and begged. How can I call him here after that?â
âThen we visit him together at Joyous Gard, and leave Kay and Bedwyr and the Myrddin to hold court in our absence.â
âGwen!â It was almost a laugh, so shocked was he at her suggestion.
She felt half mad, half wild. âWe cannot leave him alone, my king. We cannot.â
âWe cannot have my sharp-tongued cousin represent Caerleon to any visiting dignitary either. Imagine!â
Her laugh was high and frantic. âNo, I dare not imagine such a travesty.â Softening, she met his gaze with all somberness. âYou will call him home to us, then?â
â...Indeed, my queen. As you wish.â
Lancelot did return, hollow and haunted, a shade in pale armor. And over the months to come, he settled back into the rhythm of their care for one another. If he blanched and startled at Gwenhwyfarâs presence from time to time, she mentioned it not. She merely gave reassurances of her legitimacy as she could, and let him make his slow way back to her, as one might earn the trust of a flighty steed or a starving hound.
In time, they found ease in one another again.
And years later, when the young Galahad stood before King Arthurâs court, pious and self-righteous, Lancelot did not flinch away or flee from the presence of his unasked-for son.
If that night he quaked like a leaf in an autumn storm as his lovers held him close, if he shed tears or cried fury, that has no bearing upon his honor and courage, and is not for anyone else to know or judge.
So trust me now
I'll never weigh you like an anchor
I hope you'll always see me there inside your sail...

It has now been more than four months since trangender mass shooter Audrey Hale murdered six people at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. All the funerals are over and life is slowly returning to normal in the community. And yet the public has still not seen the shooterâs manifesto or the other documents police collected in the aftermath of the attack. Initially, it was the police and the FBI that appeared to be holding up the release, but now the situation has been shifted to the courts. In a bizarre turn of events, the families of both the shooter and the victims have teamed up with the school and are fighting to prevent the documents from being released. A coalition of elected officials and a local newspaper have sued to have the material made public. But one open government and transparency analyst told the New York Post that the legal theory being pursued to keep the papers secret is flawed and a court decision in their favor would be âunprecedented.â
The efforts of parents and Nashville community members to stop the release of Covenant School shooter Audrey Haleâs writings, if successful, would be an unprecedented move that could have bigger implications going forward, an open-government expert told The Post.
Tennesseeâs victimsâ rights statute does not give individuals a âcarte blancheâ to veto other laws, such as the one that allows people the right to public records, said Deborah Fisher, executive director of the Tennessee Coalition for Open Government.
âThereâs nothing really to indicate that there would be this ability for victims to veto the release of otherwise public records and in, and in this case, crime records,â Fisher said Thursday.
There are some situations where evidence related to a crime can be kept under wraps for a while. These decisions largely center on the rights of crime victims and their families. Tennessee already has a law on the books that ensures the safety and privacy of crime victims, particularly in cases of sexual assault or when suspects remain at large and could pose an additional threat to survivors. But as Deborah Fisher pointed out, none of those factors would seem to apply here and a victory for the families would essentially amount to a precedent granting a âvetoâ to crime victimsâ families in defiance of the free press and the publicâs right to know about law enforcement and governmental activities.
