Day 15 of #Marchmeetthemaker is 'From idea to Product'. A lot of my pieces are either experiments from watching other wire wrap artists on YouTube or from me twisting the wire around to see what shapes I can get. This style bracelet (pictured) took the most planning of my most recent items as I needed to learn how to create the herringbone wrap on both sides of the beads and to work out how many links would be needed for different wrist sizes. I do have some sketches of some newer ideas I am working on but I wanted to keep them hidden while I finalise.

Spoilers for The Sunbearer Trials

Alright, since Celestial Monsters cover just got released, gonna share some theories I have, mostly centered around Xio.

•Xio’s power is vengeance due to his parent being Venganza and he wears a bracelet for good luck to either evade Mala Suerte’s powers or try and prevent his own from affecting people.

•When people’s eyes go black is Xio’s powers affecting them, Ocelo losing it because Teo taunted them and they wanted revenge, Aurestela attacking Teo cause she’s angry at him for keeping Aurelio’s attention, Atzi angry she’s losing, Xochi upset she didn’t get to the stones in time. Along with that, Xio tells the story of how when a couple girls in his class were making fun of his hair they both ended up getting really bad lice and having to shave their heads, Xio wanted revenge so it happened. His powers make bad things happen to people he’s upset at and causes people around him to become consumed with a want for vengeance.

•Throughout the book it’s hinted repeatedly that Xio is not Mala Suerte’s son. It’s pointed out that he’s the only one of the kid’s who doesn’t have straight black hair, during the second to last trial the floor tiles have Venganza’s symbol on them, Xio doesn’t go to see a doctor about transitioning.

•Xio doesn’t medically transition because his blood is black and it’d give away that he’s an obsidian.

•Xio was trying to lose the trials on purpose so he can free the obsidians, but his powers affecting the other contestants was making it harder since the trials search the hearts of a person and Xio is failing to keep them from becoming spiteful and vengeful.

The translator walked the hallways of the crowded base with files in her hand. The coordinates to their next mission held safely against her chest. She takes confident steps in the cafeteria lounge. Devoid black eyes searches for the beaming blue. In any circumstances she wouldn't be able to seek his gaze so intensely. The fact that her context was work, gave her a sense of security. Her boots thumped against the floor.

She caught sight of him. He was sitting with Gaz, legs spread and mouth open as he was talking. She suddenly lost all courage upon seeing his easygoing and intimidating sitting position. Her eyes flew to the page and shoulders tensed.

"John?" She read his name in her files, his head immediately perked up, big round blue eyes looking into her nervous ones. There was a granted silence. Odd, she couldn't help but think. Gaz's eyebrows raised indicating that this was odd, indeed. Silence was never the case in the same room as John Soap Mactavish.

She stopped to clear her throat. To her, she was shy and embarrassed about it. To those around, her obsidian eyes glared daggers and brows furrowed distastefully.

"Soap." She called, maybe she was too daring to read his birth name. This was work, not their personal life.

Soap laughed, Loud and nervous. His face is as red as the beaded carnelian bracelet around her wrist. Gaz fixed her with a polite smile. "He is dumb, sorry," he grinned. She blinked and smiled back. Soap made a sound close to choking.

"Ah'm sorry." he heaved. "Ah'm NAE laughin' at ye."

He cleared his throat as best as he could.

"I know, Soap." She chuckled back at him before handing him the files. He might have not laughed at her but she definitely was laughing at him.

"John." Soap sighed, one hand on his knee while the other kept the paper out of his eyeshot.

"John?" she asked cautiously. "Are you sure you're good with that?"

"Very." He nodded, and smiled so big it must have hurt his face.

She complied with a smile "Thanks. That's the coordinates for the upcoming mission. You, Gaz and Roach will be leaving together."

"Under who?" Gaz questioned what was actually important. (Soap would disagree.)

"The lieutenant." Reader nodded at them. "Mission debrief is in the morning tomorrow."

"That's good." Gaz nodded. John gave a polite smile as well. He had changed his position after she called his name. His one knee was up, ankle resting on the other knee while he was leaning on his knees.

He was effectively curling in himself. He was a man after all. Leave him alone.

Reader walked away lazily. When she was out of earshot, Gaz turned his body to Soap. His eyes poked at his slumped but confident posture. Elbows resting on the leg on top of his knee, arms hiding his crouch.

"Mactavish." Gaz smirked knowingly.

"Do nae ever dare."

How is it Created: Obsidian is a black volcanic glass, formed when molten lava hits cold water or air and solidifies. It is composed of silicon dioxide (quartz) and many impurities which allows it to take different shapes and colors. Black obsidian gets it coloring from iron and magnesium.

History: The earliest obsidian tools can be dated back to the Oldowan, at the dawn of the Paleolithic/Stone Age (2.6 million- 10,000 BCE). Different origins of this rock can be found in Britain, Italy, Mexico, and the USA. In Egypt, obsidian knives were used in ceremonial circumcisions, as well as making mirrors (scrying mirrors for most) and other decorations in tombs. The word “Obsidian” was first used by a Roman explorer, Obsius, who “discovered” it in Ethiopia. In the Americas, Obsidian was used as a symbol of Tezcatlipoca, the chief god of the Aztec religion. Tezcatlipoca means “smoking mirror” which is why a lot of the Mayan priest used the glass rock for scrying mirrors like the Egyptians did. On the Eastern Islands, obsidian was used to make the eyes of the Moai statues before they were lost. The indigenous tribes of North America used pieces of obsidian to make arrowheads, spears and even knives by using an antler in order to carefully form different shapes.

Place it in a bed of Himalayan salt and let it sit for 48 hours

If you work with a sun or moon deity, I have noticed charging it in the sun or moonlight with the idea of protection helps to charge it as well

How to Cleanse:

Run under water (not hot just lukewarm) for a minute

Create a saltwater solution and submerge it for up to 24 hours

Burn herbs or incense over the obsidian with the intention of cleansing (I personally use sandalwood incense for this)

Leave your stone under the full moon to cleanse and retrieve in the morning

Bury your obsidian in your garden for 48 hours

How to Get the Best Out of It:

Wear a black obsidian bracelet. The wrist area is a highly energetic zone because it has nearly direct access to the bloodstream. This (in my opinion) is the best place to have obsidian to create a powerful shield and help with manifestation.

For lighter dosage, use an obsidian ring.
