Kingsman And Sweden

I’m just going to Sweden Pick this movie because I can. There will obviously be spoilers in the list, so don’t read it if you still haven’t watched the movie.

First, Taron’s Swedish was really good! You can tell he’s been practicing pronunciations with a real Swede and not just reading it off the script.

Even with that, kudos to him! You can compare with Kristin Bauer van Straten in True Blood who also had a Swede at hand to practice with and still spoke almost unrecognizable Swedish.

Speaking of accents... Hanna Alström’s accent is the one all Swedes want to have/believe we have. 

Nice to see the entire Swedish Royal Family played by actual Swedes, even though I didn’t recognize Björn Granath (he died earlier this year, btw)

Moving on...

That’s not what a Swedish castle usually looks like. I know nothing of architecture, but I know a lot of castles. Compared to that one, most of our castles are really... not very fairy tale like.

The uniforms of the servants at the dinner were extremely English. This and this is what you formally wear if you wait on the King of Sweden. If it’s not the Nobel banquet, because then you wear this.

The food... I’d like to have seen more of the food. I could have sworn one of the dishes was crayfish, which I’m sure the King and Queen enjoys, but then they eat them like all other Swedes and not like that. It’s really not good enough to serve without paper hats.

Now... Let’s talk wedding!

There is no way a Swedish princess (especially if she’s the heir to the throne, as it seems since Tilde doesn’t seem to have siblings?) would marry abroad, if she wasn’t marrying another royal.

This wedding did NOT take place in Sweden.

How do I know?

First: had it taken place in Sweden, the Roayal family would have been put front and center.

Second: having the father give the daughter away is not a Swedish tradition. In Sweden, the bride and groom walks into the church together, as equals.

“But the King gave away BOTH of the princesses IRL!”

Right... 

Yeah...

Don’t have me dig through all the media reporting about how sexist and wrong that was to break with Swedish traditions like that. I can’t stomach it. Let’s just say that the princesses aren’t immune to British/American media propaganda and a compromise was made, so that the father of the bride walked them INTO the church and then they walked WITH the groom to the alter. 

Again, long and infected debate about things that shouldn’t matter.

But yeah. Not Swedish tradition to give the daughter to another man. We have our own sexist traditions, thank you very much!

Lastly: this is the closest thing to an in-church kiss at a Royal wedding in Sweden you get. Because again, it’s not a Swedish tradition to kiss inside the church.

Also... the applauds? No. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia more or less shocked the pants of everyone when they danced out of the church at their wedding, but applauds? No.

Then the big question: is Eggsy a Swedish prince now?

That depends on what the King says and what Eggsy wants.

If the King and Eggsy say yes to this Eggsy could very well be addressed as Prince Gary of Sweden, duke of DUCHY (<-- probably the same as Princess Tilde is duchess of from birth) from now on.

For this to be possible, Eggsy must first become a Swedish citizen.

If the King or Eggsy say no to this, he’ll just be Mr Unwin and nothing more, if he doesn’t take his wife’s last name (which he probably should, since she can’t take his anyway) and then he’ll be Mr Bernadotte (if this fictional Royal family shares the real Royal family’s last name, of course)
