one thing i never understood in dramas is how one person will go “i need to meet with you/let’s talk” and the other person will go along with no qualms and it frustrates me to no end bc WHYYYY????
but jang ae questioning that lawyer/attorney (i dont actually know his job) about why he needs to speak with her, that she wont keep secrets, and just flat out refusing on top of telling him to go to her if he needs to talk just gave me new life

What’s Wrong With Secretary Bae? (Trope Extravaganza AU!)
davidhatter:
`
Mu-yeol wished Hatter spoke a second language, and that it was one that their Korean compatriots did not speak, because he would’ve explained to him that that was a very, very bad decision.
It was a part of Korean drinking culture that Mu-yeol had yet to explain to his boss because he thought it was irrelevant for their relationship. He’d been wrong, whatever, his fault.
He couldn’t help but laugh at his boss, hiding it behind his hand to be polite.
Tumblr media
The local businessmen weren’t as polite.
“Bae biseo (비서), you’ve got a black knight!” One of them joked in their native language, a couple others saying something similar.
Mu-yeol held up his hand and, in Korean, dismissed it. “He probably thinks I should slow down, that’s it.”
See, what Mu-yeol wished he explained to Mr. Hatter was that a black knight was someone who took drinks for someone else. Usually in the context of as a penalty for drinking games, but it applied in these situations too. And most importantly...you usually black knighted if you had romantic feelings for the other person. Of course, that wasn’t what these businessmen were thinking of Hatter and Secretary Bae. First of all, they were both men and that wasn’t something as openly discussed here. Second, well, one look at Mr. Hatter and Mr. Bae and you could tell they weren’t on equal planes. Mu-yeol’s suit was secondhand and he’d had it for almost a decade now; Mr. Hatter just looked like money.
More than anything, it couldn’t have been true anyway. No matter how big the awkward crush he’d used to have on his boss had been, it was just that. A fleeting crush that quickly disappeared. He’d chalked it up to Mr. Hatter being an attractive man who’d given him a stable income for his son’s needs, and who was actually a pretty good boss. Of course Mu-yeol had a phase where he’d crushed on him. Of course.
That was a few years ago though. And if anything, getting closer to Mr. Hatter over the years only confirmed that they were on entirely different planes of existence.
“Black knight, black knight!” One chanted, pouring another shot and handing it to Mu-yeol, the man next to him doing the same.
He’d also failed to warn him that once you do it once, you’ll be tested to see if you’ll do it again.
Mu-yeol scrambled to reach the shots before his boss could grab them, but Mr. Hatter was a mite quicker. He rolled his eyes, fully aware of what the mundus men were doing. They just wanted to see how much the fairy could drink, that was it, wasn’t it?
“Yah.” Mu-yeol said, much to the shock of the local businessmen, as that was no way for a secretary to address people of a higher status. Especially a fairy. "I know what little game you’re playing. This isn’t my first time drinking with humans.”
One of the local businessmen smiled and chuckled as Mr. Hatter drank the last two shots of soju that had been handed to his secretary, and said in English to him, “You must really cherish your secretary, Mr. Hatter.”
Mu-yeol’s face flushed -- he’d blame it on the alcohol later -- and hissed to him in Korean, “Don’t use that word.”
The Korean word for ‘cherish’ was used in more contexts than it was in English. In Korean, you could cherish an employee because they were useful, loyal, and dutiful and it didn’t sound weird to say it. In English, Mr. Hatter would need to be in love with him to cherish him.
“Well gentlemen,” Mu-yeol said after having found a time window to end this bar meeting. “I should get Mr. Hatter back to the hotel. We fly outpretty early.” Sort of a lie. It was an afternoon flight. But Mr. Hatter was nearly fifty and would surely want to sleep in with his impending hangover.
He grabbed Mr. Hatter’s business credit card form his wallet and paid for everything. It was three intersections later that Mu-yeol actually grew irritated with having to walk slower than usual on account of his very, very drunk boss.
“Aish, this won’t do.” he muttered to himself, before crouching down in front of Mr. Hatter. “Get on.”
He pat his back, in case Mr. Hatter didn’t understand. “Go on, hop on.”

// 💕 para Kore (que no sea Kiyo pls(?))
Send “ 💕 “ and my muse will give yours a cheesy nickname!
