No, no, I'm still upset about those book reviews on what I have since decided is one of my favourite books.
"The main character wasn't relatable" OH. GODS. What are you doing? Are you the main character of every single story ever? NO. Also maybe the story isn't for you! That's okay! That doesn't mean the book is bad! As a kid around the same age as the protagonist who also moved into an old, run-down house of all things that I could have never imagined as home, who got a small baby sibling at around that time as well, as a kid who was relatively quiet and thought too much and wanted to fly that book made me feel things I'd literally never felt before!!
"The girl is so weird that's annoying" CHILDREN ARE WEIRD!! CHILDREN! AND! CHARACTERS! CAN! BE! WEIRD! Bloody hell in what kind of world are you living?? A strong and weird and confident girl character was the best thing to happen to me! Sometimes I thought she was really annoying as well, yeah, but that's kind of the point and I did kinda want to be like her. She was so important to my array of fantasy book girl characters I could relate to and hold in mind!!
"It's not a children's book" to YOU. It's not a typical one and certainly not a mainstream one but man child me had her brain rewritten for the first time and it was glorious. She devoured that book and I'm sure so did other weird kids.
Gods. It was the first book ending with me unsure if I liked it but glad I read it. It made me feel things I'd never felt before, especially not from a book. I don't think I consciously saw myself in the protagonist back then but I'm pretty sure that was so so important. Ten years of me having grown totally oblivious of the book and suddenly it comes back unprompted and clear as day (and I got my own copy and I'm sure I adore it).
And like. Those reviews arw so sad especially because they were the majority on that site! And it's no book for everyone, but the framing that this is the book's fault makes me livid. Your protagonist-to-identify-with issues aside, maybe the book just wasn't for you! BUT THEN DON'T LEAVE A MULTIPLE PARAGRAPH COMPLAINT ABOUT ALL THE THINGS POSSIBLY INTENDED FOR A DIFFERENT AUDIENCE. That made me so sad.
Anyway. We need more ambiguously not-happy-but-not-NOT-happy children's media starring objectively weird and annoying kids and thoughtful kids who feel lost in the world and unsolved mysteries that aren't meant to be known.
(The book is Skellig by David Almond, by the way.)

Anime of the day: Hoshi no Samidare
Tumblr media
Alt title: Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer
Released: 2022
You know if you wake up one day and find a talking lizard on your bed, be like Yuuhi and throw him out the window. After all, you don’t want to fight the mage Animus for the fate of the earth. You don’t care that a giant biscuit hammer is hanging over the earth ready to drop. You have zero interest in becoming the lizard knight and fighting to protect a princess. That is until you are attacked by a golem lackey of Animus and are saved by said princess and find that this princess has a very interesting goal: she wants to defeat Animus so she can destroy the earth with her own hands. So now you’re interested.

#Kroger #Walmart #Ollies#KrogerButterBiscuits #KrogerPeachPreserves #NutellaHazelnutSpreadWithCocoa#HotandSpicySpam #TocinoSpam #ButterBiscuitPeachPreservesHotAndSpicyTocinoSpamReview
I made a Kroger Butter Biscuit, Kroger Peach Preserves, Nutella, and Hot & Spicy with Tocino Spam Biscuit sandwiches and they were pretty good.
The biscuits were buttery soft, the peach preserves was lightly sweet with a light peach flavor, the nutella was oily but smooth and creamy while having a light hazelnut chocolate taste to it.
The Hot & Spicy spam was firm and soft while lightly spicy.
The Tocino spam was lightly sweet tasting and when well with the Hot and spicy spam, peach preserves, Nutella and the butter biscuits. .
The butter biscuit sandwiches sweet and salty but not overly to me.
I would make this again.
Got the butter biscuits and peach preserves at Kroger, Got the Nutella at Ollies, Got the Hot & Spicy Spam at Walmart, and got the Tocino Spam at Walmart.

NEW Tartlets 🍫🍓🍋
Mcvitie's introduced their new product, tartlets filled with vanilla cream centre and luscious flavours including raspberry, lemon and chocolate! As always, i'm excited to try them!
These tartlets are delicious, but I must say, these are basically cream filled biscuits that taste quite normal like any other cream filled biscuit. And it does not have "cheesecake" flavour to it, just ordinary vanilla cream in the centre. There is nothing more to describe about these tartlets but I most definitely liked the chocolate ones!
The raspberry tartlet tasted more like strawberry flavour 🤔
⭐️ Ratings ⭐️
🍫milk chocolate (6/10)
🍓raspberry cheesecake (5.5/10)
🍋lemon cheesecake (5/10)

The funny thing was that I expressed a mild concern about the review of a book that was just "smart, funny and sexy" because fellas several people are trying to hunt you i hope nothing sexy happens You Do Not Have The Time and also hardly know each other! and my mum said "you know, I think they're just using sexy as a new substitue word for cool or something. I recently heard someone call an interior design sexy which makes no sense at all." and she was right. the novel was indeed smart and also funny (but that is not the word i'd use, it had humour and funny moments but it's still a rather dark book with more serious dark fantasy vibes tbh) but the sexiest thing that happened was a very short kiss on the lips with no single emotion greatly explored behind it and zero romantic advances between those two people or as much as a hint of attraction (and i don't think it's just me being aroace either).
so anyway people have started to describe things as sexy ranodmly? what? why? also i'm realising i really have issues with that review. "smart funny and sexy" only 2/3s of this are true and the first part implies the entirely wrong vibes.
it has humour it's smart it's a super good novel but most of all it will have you gripped by the throat and is infusing your veins with its very essence refusing to leave just like the living magic that burnt through an entire world and it's going to choke you until you have the novel finished and then some. you might also become weird about blood
