5 weeks post op
Wow, time flies.
The first week back at work was okay. It got a bit uncomfortable being dressed in real clothes (rather than pyjamas) for the whole day. I wear a shirt and tie, and there was definitely a fair amount of friction against my chest.
I actually wanted my binder back at one point 😆 - I guess the compression made me feel secure/safe.
Scabs are entirely gone now, and after an hour's worth of scrubbing with Zoff wipes (thank you Amazon) I think I've cleared all the adhesive off my chest. So now I've started properly massaging with BioOil, and using the silicone scar tape.
There is still some swelling, but I won't be panicking about that unless the surgeon makes unhappy noises when I see him in two weeks.

I have developed some gross spots in the centre of my chest, but they might be related to the breakout on my face (FFS, I'm 39, I look ridiculous with acne. Thank you T...). I am also looking forward to spray tanning over the discoloration that I'm still thinking is thread veins.
I don't fancy a whole chest piece tattoo, unfortunately.

Mega catchup
Wow it's been too long since I wrote on this. I feeling my intuitive pull to get back to doing this at least a few times a week.
I'm so touched that my friends immediately gave me and my partner an UberEats gift card, dropped off a few days worth of food, and delivered things after my partner had an injury. One friend delivered two servings of pho and veggies, another friend gave $40 delivery card, and another friend gave $50 delivery card. One day one of my friends drove out of her way to bring me some medication things and wouldn't accept my payment. The next day my friend gave me Polysporin and biooil and gave a nice card for my partner. We're extremely lucky to have supportive friends, and the injury could have been worse.
It's been more than a year since my partner has been affectionate with me so I really appreciate that since the accident happened she's been more clingy, sweet, and affectionate like we're dating the first year.
Work
I'm really happy that I am kicking ass at work, getting in the groove of it. I'm learning to not flex my muscle too much and I am really trying to apply that your smarts and skills don't matter if you're not likeable. People won't care about your competency until you show ho much you care.
I'm lucky to have a role that gives me the flexibility to keep fit, have balance, and see people.
I'll stick with this role and put any extra creative energy to my own projects.
Functional
I'm really lucky that I've finally got back to being functional and be able to socialize. But my intuitive identity is becoming more dominant and make sure I don't too much in too short a time and keep a steady balanced energy and not do things too intensely throughout the day and night.
I will do my best not to get back into old habits and practice just focusing on a few goals and being able to just be and hang out with myself.

. . . #BioOil #BioOilBrasil #PeleDePessego (em Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvnrh1l15f/?igshid=12k6uk67wn52e

7 Weeks Post Op
A bit of a late update, here.
At 7 weeks I had my post-op check up with my surgeon (Mr Sterne).
He is very happy with the healing so far, and has cleared me to return to usual activity, including stretching my arms up over my head, and sleeping however I want.
He has instructed me to massage my scars for five minutes on each side EVERY NIGHT! And it has to be a firm massage.
Finding ten minutes every evening has been a pain in the arse, but it is seriously improving the sensation in my chest: it's only been a few days, and already the seatbelt doesn't feel as uncomfortable.
I am using BioOil, and making a delightful mess with it.
The scar from the burn (diathermy) still needs another few weeks before I can start massaging it.
I have noticed over the last few weeks that I've had an epic breakout over my upper chest, neck, and jaw, so I did ask about it. I wondered if the spots on my chest were because I haven't been scrubbing as hard as I used to, but Mr Sterne said it IS a result of the surgery: something to do with the blood flow returning and excess sebum.
I was just relieved that there is a reason, and that it will (hopefully) die down soon.
I still can't quite tell which lumpy bits are swelling, and which are fat, but I'm confident that with time, resistance workouts, and continued calorie deficit, it will all smooth out and I will be a smouldering hunk by summer.

Reasons Why People Like Bio Oil

Bio-Oil is a specifically made oil product that contains a blend of important plant oils and vitamins that have been shown to improve the appearance and health of the skin. It also contains a special ingredient called Purcellian OilTM, which reduces the viscosity of the product formulation, allowing it to be absorbed into the skin rather than just sitting on the surface.
Bio-Oil is committed to developing cutting-edge skin care products, which is why it is hypoallergenic, suited for sensitive skin, and cruelty-free (meaning it is not tested on animals).
Here are some reasons why people love bio oil
All things are better when they are natural
It's the same Bio-Oil you might remember from your mother's cosmetics cabinet, but it's now made with an all-new, 100 percent natural blend of absolutely GMO-free plant oils and extracts. The new formula is free of petroleum and mineral oils, making it ideal for your new skin-loving go-to. To get into the delectable details, the new formula combines three base oils, four specialized oils, two vitamin oils, and five plant extracts; additionally, all of the components possess supercharged fatty acid concentrations to enhance your skin's health. This new Bio-Oil Skincare Oil is cruelty-free and free of the dangerous uninvited visitors known as parabens, preservatives, additives, and artificial perfumes, in keeping with our brand.
Without compromise, you get all the benefits you know and love
If point 1 wasn't enough to persuade you, consider this: Bio-Oil Skincare Oil (Natural) was developed for your skin's path to a healthy and resilient lifestyle. It not only aids in skin healing and regeneration, but it also helps to lessen the look of wrinkles and creases! That's a lot of good news for your complexion. It's also clinically proven to minimize the look of scars and stretch marks, which is even more reason to appreciate it. Thanks to its plant-based formulation, bio oil Skincare Oil (Natural) is a must-have for increased hydration, suppleness, and blocking in vital moisture without closing your pores. For your summer skin adventures, use this non-greasy, readily absorbed skin-loving natural oil.
Scaring and stretching are not the only applications!
That's correct, Bio-Oil Skincare Oil (Natural) can be used in a variety of ways, from bathing to patting your under-eyes goodbye. The benefits of this combination go beyond scars and stretch marks because of its versatility. Run a warm bath with a special visitor: two or three droplets of Bio-Oil—it'll leave your skin feeling wonderfully soft as soon as you walk out of the tub, with no need for a moisturizer. Natural Bio-Oil Skincare Oil (Natural) is a must-have! All the way until your next treatment, this will nourish and moisturize your precious, delicate cuticles.
There's more: If you're getting a snag every time you shave, try using Bio-Oil before you pull out the razor. It'll keep your legs just moist enough for a close, smooth shave. (Of course, using your standard shaving cream.) Here are some more reasons why you should check out the new Bio-Oil blend right now: You can use it to remove your makeup, blend it into your bronzer, seal in your spray tan, soothe your freshly waxed brows, and reduce dark and red overtones beneath your eyes caused by lack of sleep or stress.

3 Weeks Post-op
It seems like far more than a week ago I posted the 2-week update. Time is going slowly.
I can now dress myself and wipe my arse - *almost* comfortably.
I have been driving short distances tentatively - I can't turn the wheel sharply, and gear changes aren't exactly easy. Pulling and releasing the handbrake is also an area I need to get used to again. But the seatbelt isn't too uncomfortable.
Sleeping - I'm still on my back, but not propped up as much anymore. I briefly considered trying to side-sleep a couple of nights ago, but as soon as I was slightly angled, I could feel the full force of gravity pulling my chest sideways, and wussed out. I figure I'll give it another week or so.
I've taken the tape off for showers this week, and started *very gently* rubbing some BioOil on the scars.
The chest area around the incisions still feels very odd - any pressure feels like *a lot* of pressure. The skin feels burn-y, but if I touch the skin I can't feel the temperature of my fingers. It's a weird sort of numbness. I haven't had the itchiness that I've seen others complain about.
The swelling is going down, but very gradually, and I definitely still have lumpy bits. See below.
