From Grassroots to Leadership: Samrat Choudhary's Inspiring Political Saga
Tumblr media
[Saket Saurabh Pandey,Political Advisor & Analysts,SPACS,New Delhi]
Samrat Choudhary, born on November 16, 1968, in Lakhanpur village of Munger district, Bihar, has emerged as a prominent figure in the state's political landscape. Hailing from a family deeply rooted in politics, his father, Shakuni Choudhary, has served as both an MLA and MP, while his mother, Parvati Devi, was an MLA from Tarapur constituency. This lineage provided Samrat with a robust foundation, propelling him into the political arena at a young age.
A Leader Rooted in Heritage: Samrat Choudhary’s Political Odyssey
Choudhary's political journey commenced in 1990 when he joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) under the leadership of Lalu Prasad Yadav. His dedication and leadership skills were soon recognized, leading to his appointment as the Minister of Agriculture in the Rabri Devi government on May 19, 1999. At that time, he oversaw the Measurements and Horticulture departments. However, his tenure was short-lived due to controversies surrounding his age, leading to his removal from the ministry.
Undeterred by this setback, Choudhary contested the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections from the Parbatta constituency in 2000 and secured a victory. He replicated this success in the 2010 elections, reinforcing his position as a significant player in Bihar's politics. In 2010, he was appointed as the Chief Whip of the opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, further solidifying his leadership credentials.
In 2014, Choudhary's political trajectory took a notable turn when he was appointed as the Minister of Urban Development and Housing in the Jitan Ram Manjhi government. This period was marked by his efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and housing facilities in Bihar. His tenure, however, was brief, ending in February 2015.
Choudhary's association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began in 2018 when he was appointed as the Vice President of the BJP's Bihar unit. This move was significant, as it aligned him with a party seeking to expand its influence among the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Bihar. Choudhary, belonging to the Koeri caste, became an instrumental figure in this strategy.
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Choudhary was designated as a star campaigner for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). His campaign strategies and outreach played a pivotal role in consolidating the NDA's support base among the OBCs, contributing to their electoral success.
The year 2021 saw Choudhary's return to the state cabinet as the Minister of Panchayati Raj in Nitish Kumar's expanded cabinet. His tenure was marked by initiatives aimed at strengthening local governance structures and promoting rural development. However, it was not without controversies, including a notable spat with the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha, which he later resolved by apologizing.
In March 2023, Choudhary's stature within the BJP rose significantly when he was appointed as the President of the party's Bihar unit. This appointment underscored the BJP's strategy to project a strong OBC leader in the state, positioning Choudhary as a counterbalance to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Choudhary's political acumen and leadership were further recognized in January 2024 when he was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar alongside Vijay Kumar Sinha under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's leadership. In this capacity, he was entrusted with several key departments, including Finance, Health, Commercial Taxes, Urban Development and Housing, Sports, Panchayati Raj, Industry, Animal and Fisheries Resources, and Planning.
One of his significant achievements as Deputy Chief Minister was presenting a ₹2.79 lakh crore budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, the largest in Bihar's history. He announced a growth rate of 10.64% for the state and highlighted that 2.5 crore people had risen above the poverty line in recent years. Additionally, he sanctioned the creation of 30,547 new posts in various government departments, aligning with the NDA's commitment to job creation.
However, Choudhary's tenure as the BJP's state president was not without challenges. In July 2024, following an analysis of the party's performance in the Lok Sabha elections, he was replaced by Dilip Kumar Jaiswal. The decision was attributed to the party's assessment that Choudhary had been unable to effectively mobilize the Kushwaha caste vote in favor of the BJP. Despite this, he continued to serve as the Deputy Chief Minister, maintaining his influence in the state's governance.
Throughout his career, Choudhary has been known for his assertive and sometimes controversial statements. In June 2023, he drew national attention by comparing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's bearded appearance to that of Osama bin Laden, a remark that sparked widespread debate.
Samrat Choudhary: A Trailblazer in Bihar’s Political Transformation
In summary, Samrat Choudhary's political journey reflects a blend of strategic acumen, leadership, and adaptability. From his early days in the RJD to his current role as Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, he has navigated the complexities of the state's politics with a focus on development and governance. His tenure has been marked by significant achievements, including substantial budget allocations and job creation initiatives, positioning him as a key figure in Bihar's political landscape.

[ad_1] Indian-Americans are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, expressing optimism about the potential benefits for the economy, border security, and global peace.  Donald Trump has secured a second term as president after winning crucial battleground states. This victory marks a significant comeback for Trump, who lost his re-election bid in 2020 to President Joe Biden.  Avinash Gupta, President of the Foreign Indian Association, believes Trump’s good rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will strengthen India-US relations. Gupta cited local factors like inflation, open borders, and ongoing wars as key concerns that influenced Indian-American voters.  “They voted what was best for India -America friendship. President Trump has a good rapport with PM Modi. Local factors such as inflation, open borders and ongoing wars also came into play. We are looking forward to course correction and having a better economy, secured borders and global peace,” he said.  Alok Kumar Indian- American community leader, NJ&NY (Chairman Bihar Foundation USA East Coast & Past President & Board of trustee -FIA-NYNJCT&NE), emphasised the shared values between India and the US as the world’s largest and oldest democracies.  “As the oldest and largest democracies, the United States and India share a natural bond rooted in shared values and a mutual commitment to global peace. President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have emphasised ending global conflicts and fostering harmony, a vision that I believe the new administration will continue to uphold,” he said. Kumar highlighted the strong personal rapport between Trump and Modi, evidenced by landmark visits like Trump’s trip to Gujarat and Modi’s “Howdy Modi” event in Texas. Kumar is confident that the new administration will uphold the vision of promoting global peace and strengthening strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships. “The strong personal rapport between past leaders–evidenced by landmark visits like President Trump’s visit to Gujarat and Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Texas–has solidified this relationship, making it more resilient. With a new administration, I’m confident we’ll see further strengthening of our strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships, benefiting both our nations and promoting a peaceful, prosperous world,” Kumar added.  Anil Bansal from New Jersey, a businessperson and former chairperson of Indus American Bank, acknowledged the election results and expressed hope that Trump’s administration will serve all Americans. Despite disagreements with Trump’s policies, Bansal, a supporter of Kamala Harris, committed to staying engaged and working toward positive change, striving for a future guided by unity and respect.  “I want to acknowledge the results of this election and accept Donald Trump as the next President. This election season has been intense and very divisive. While I do not agree with many of President Trump’s policies and actions, I sincerely hope that his administration will serve all Americans and address the challenges that we all face. I’m committed to staying engaged and working toward positive change. I hope we can all strive for a future where unity and respect guide us, no matter our differences. I pray for a brighter future for everyone,” he said. (Input from ANI) [ad_2] Source link

Tejashwi Yadav Accuses Prashant Kishor of Being a BJP Agent Amid Election Strategy Allegations
In a significant political development, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has accused poll strategist Prashant Kishor of being a “BJP agent.” These allegations come at a crucial time during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with Yadav suggesting that Kishor is being funded by the BJP to influence the election narrative. This accusation adds another layer of complexity to the already charged political atmosphere in Bihar and across India.
Tejashwi Yadav’s Allegations
Tejashwi Yadav, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, made these allegations during a public statement on Friday. He claimed that the BJP, facing potential losses in the ongoing elections, has roped in Prashant Kishor to manipulate the narrative after three to four rounds of voting. Yadav pointed out that Kishor, who now heads his own party, Jan Suraaj, has been deeply involved in Bihar’s political landscape, having previously managed campaigns for various parties and served as the national vice president of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United).
Connection with Amit Shah and BJP
Yadav further alleged that Prashant Kishor’s close association with the BJP is not new. He mentioned that even his uncle, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had once stated that Kishor was made the national vice president of JDU at the behest of Amit Shah, the Home Minister. This claim, according to Yadav, has never been denied by either Shah or Kishor. The RJD leader asserted that Kishor has been aligned with the BJP from the beginning, and his involvement with any party tends to lead to its downfall.
Funding and Organizational Allegations
One of the critical points in Yadav’s allegations was the claim that Kishor maintains salaried district presidents, a practice he suggests is not even common within the BJP. He questioned the source of Kishor’s funding, implying that the BJP is backing him financially as part of their electoral strategy. Yadav accused Kishor of manipulating voter data and working with various political entities year after year to serve the BJP’s interests.
Reaction to Viral Fake Screenshot
The controversy was further fueled by a fake screenshot circulating on social media, falsely claiming that Prashant Kishor had been appointed as the BJP’s national spokesperson. This rumor prompted a strong response from Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party, which issued a statement denouncing the fake news. The party also criticized Congress and its leader Jairam Ramesh for allegedly spreading the fake document. This incident highlights the pervasive issue of misinformation and its impact on political discourse.
Political Implications and Background
Tejashwi Yadav’s accusations against Prashant Kishor come at a time when Bihar’s political scene is highly volatile. Kishor, a prominent political strategist, has worked with multiple parties across India, helping them shape their election campaigns. His tenure with Nitish Kumar’s JDU ended acrimoniously in 2020, with Kumar asserting that Kishor’s induction into the party was influenced by Amit Shah.
These allegations by Yadav are likely to intensify the political rivalry between the RJD and the BJP, as well as between Yadav and Kishor. The timing of these accusations, amidst the ongoing elections, suggests a strategic move by Yadav to discredit Kishor and, by extension, the BJP.
Tejashwi Yadav’s Political Strategy
Tejashwi Yadav’s strategy appears to be focused on undermining the credibility of Prashant Kishor, whom he sees as a significant threat due to his influence and strategic acumen. By labeling Kishor as a BJP agent, Yadav aims to cast doubt on Kishor’s impartiality and question his motives. This move could potentially sway public opinion against Kishor and the BJP, especially among undecided voters.
BJP’s Response and Strategy
The BJP has yet to officially respond to these allegations. However, the party’s strategy in Bihar has often involved complex alliances and strategic partnerships. The involvement of Kishor, a seasoned strategist, could be seen as part of a broader plan to secure electoral success in a state where political dynamics are highly fluid.
Conclusion
Tejashwi Yadav’s allegations against Prashant Kishor introduce a new dynamic into the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. By accusing Kishor of being a BJP agent and questioning his funding sources, Yadav aims to discredit both Kishor and the BJP. This development underscores the intense political rivalry in Bihar and highlights the broader challenges of managing political narratives in an era of misinformation.
As the elections progress, the impact of these allegations on voter sentiment and the overall election outcome remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that the battle for Bihar’s political future is as fierce as ever, with every move and counter-move adding to the high-stakes drama of Indian politics.

Quote
The problems began in the complacency of the mid-2000s. That’s when India should have looked beyond software and semiconductor design and doubled down on shoes, shirts and toys — manufacturing that took advantage of the less-skilled workforce. Rather than turning special economic zones into a land grab, India should have created a few large enclaves. Demonetization and the flawed GST made things worse, and Modi’s campaign of self-reliance may do yet more harm. Why’s the public not angered by it all? In the dirt-poor, northern state of Bihar, almost as populous as Japan, Modi’s Covid lockdown forced migrant workers to return, fearful and jobless. Yet while interviewing voters before elections for the state legislature, Bloomberg News reporters found no dent in Modi’s appeal. People’s ire was reserved for his coalition partner, the state chief minister (Nitish Kumar). And even he managed to retain power thanks to the prime minister’s boundless popularity. The better-governed, faster-growing southern states of India have mostly shunned Modi’s strongman cult, but they’re bit players. It’s the poor, over-populous northern states that matter disproportionately in Indian politics, and it is there that Modi has managed to shift the Overton window, supplanting material prosperity — which no party has delivered since the ’90s — with chest-thumping nationalism and an atavistic yearning for a pre-Islamic past.
